JetBlue orders 60 Airbus A220

The low cost US airline JetBlue Airways has requested purchase order for 60 Airbus A220

JetBlue Airways announced on Tuesday that it ordered 60 Airbus A220-300 aircraft, previously called Bombardier CS300, for delivery from 2020. The airline has an option for another 60 aircraft starting in 2025 that could be A220-100/300 .

JetBlue Airways has ordered 60 new Airbus A220 aircraft. The new regional Airbus aircraft will offer more seats, larger containers on Embraer’s routes to replace their existing Embraer 190 aircraft with more seats on board aircraft with compartments and larger upper windows, executives said on Wednesday.

AW-70000886.jpgARTISTIC PRINTING OF THE NEW AIRBUS A220-300 FOR JETBLUE AIRWAYS

«We are absolutely delighted with the A220, as we believe it balances the needs of all our stakeholders», said President Joanna Geraghty. Marty St. George, Executive Vice President of JetBlue Airways for business planning, said the A220s are versatile enough with a range of 3,300 nautical miles to use on short and medium-duration flights, and possibly for transcontinental services. The A220 are more efficient, fuselages cost less to fly despite having up to 40 percent more seats than the E190 they will replace, officials said. JetBlue Airways will begin receiving aircraft delivery in 2020.

Market for the A220

Mature markets for larger A220 include routes such as Westchester, New York, Florida and Boston to Austin, Texas and New Orleans. The 60 A220, which will replace 30 owned and 30 rented Embraer aircraft, will help turn the airline into a fully air fleet, which, according to JetBlue, will result in savings in crew training and maintenance.

Airbus aircraft cost 29% less per seat to operate, including 40% fuel savings than existing Embraer aircraft, and fly more quietly with the new Pratt & Whitney turbofan engines, authorities said. Compared to approximately 100 seats in the Embraer 190s, the A220-100s will have 120 seats and the A220-300 seats 130 to 140 seats. «This is a game changer for JetBlue,» said Steve Priest, Chief Financial Officer of JetBlue Airways.

Market adjustment

As part of the agreement, JetBlue converted an earlier order of 25 A320NEOs into the larger A321NEO and adjusted the delivery schedule. The JetBlue options during a 15-month fleet review were between the larger Airbus 320 family or the next generation of the A220 or Embraer 195. JetBlue officials offered cost comparisons with the existing E190 aircraft, but not with the E195. «We had to make a very, very difficult decision. We believe that the A220 is the perfect fit», said Priest. A \ W

Huelgas en Ryanair e Iberia

Resultado de imagen para Iberia

AW | 2018 07 11 12:10 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Ryanair and Iberia strikes of passengers

The Ryanair strike will affect 114,000 people in Spain, according to SITCPLA

A strike announced by the cabin crew of Ryanair in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Belgium for the days 25 and 26 of July and 3, 4 August 2018, and with the strike announced by the ground staff of Iberia at El Prat Airport , there will be thousands of affected passengers who will not be able to fly in the scheduled times and who will lose international connections. Only the stoppage of Ryanair’s TCP can affect, for 48 hours and in the four countries, more than 230,000 passengers according to the OCU, and 114,000 in Spain.

The Independent Union of Airline Passenger Cabin Crew Members (SITCPLA) has calculated that 114,000 passengers will be affected in Spain by the strike of the passengers cabin crew (TCP) in Ryanair, announced for the next days 25 and 26 July . They calculate that in every day of strike, 600 take-offs with TCP based in Spain could interrupt their operation, from the 13 bases that Ryanair has in national territory and with an average of occupancy for each 190-passenger plane.

TCP strike on Ryanair

The strike of the TCP of the Irish low cost was announced last Thursday in Brussels, after concluding a meeting between the unions representing the workers in each of the affected countries: USO and SITCPLA of Spain, SNVPAC of Portugal, UIL of Italy and CNE of Belgium. Once again, the workers of Ryanair ask that they apply the labor legislation of their country of base and not the Irish.

According to the USO, in Spain more than 1,800 TCPs and more than 4,000 among the four countries have been called to strike. Currently, the airline operates some 2,000 daily flights and at Spanish airports it has 13 bases, located in Santiago de Compostela, Madrid, Barcelona, Girona, Valencia, Alicante, Malaga, Seville, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria and Tenerife In the last year, it has yielded a profit of 1,450 million euros in our country.

For Ryanair, the strike «makes no sense» because cabin workers «earn up to 40,000 euros per year, work in a regime of five days worked and three followed by rest, can not fly more than 900 hours a year, receive free training and sales commissions on board».

Ground crew of Iberia in El Prat

For its part, Iberia’s ground staff at the Barcelona-El Prat airport have called a strike for 27 and 28 July, Friday and Saturday respectively, and for 3 and 4 August. They denounce the «work overload» suffered by the 2,000 workers who make up the workforce in the Catalan capital and the «systematic breaches» of the agreements reached with the unions (see: Strike of Iberia land personnel in Barcelona).

The spokesman of UGT Catalonia in Iberia Barcelona, Omar Minguillón, has informed that the strike has already been registered with the Department of Labor and involves ground staff, handling services and aeronautical maintenance technicians in the first Catalan airport and second in Spain, which includes employees at check-in counters, those who manage baggage, loading and unloading, handling, ramp assistance and aircraft maintenance. According to UGT, the main problems of Iberia Barcelona are the lack of stable contracting, the need to increase the temporary workforce -which already reaches 40 %-, the «indiscriminate» use of the figure of the obligatory extra hours and the need of acquiring a commitment to decrease days of presence for the next season. The ground staff of Iberia in El Prat called a strike, for the same reasons, last Christmas but was eventually dismissed. A \ W

Conciliación obligatoria paro aeronáutico

AW-70086444

AW | 2018 07 10 20:20 | AIR TRAFFIC / AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Compulsory conciliation for aeronautical strike

The Ministry of Labor of Argentina dictated the obligatory conciliation for the aeronautical unemployment that five of the six unions of the sector had announced for this Friday

In coincidence with the beginning of the winter holidays the Ministry of Labor dictated the obligatory conciliation with the aeronautical union sector of Argentina. Government intervention in the conflict covers practically the whole of that vacation period.

The five unions that had called for a cease of tasks for this Friday are those that group the APLA and UALA pilots, the aeronautical technicians (APTA), ground personnel (APA) and hierarchical (UPSA). The guilds have not informed so far if they will abide by the decision. The Ministry of Transport urged them to «leave without effect, during the indicated period (…) any direct action measure that they were implementing and / or planned to implement, providing services in a normal and usual manner».

For this Friday, according to data from the Ministry of Transport, 650 flights are scheduled, which will transport 83,000 passengers. In Aerolíneas Argentinas they had already estimated the cost of a possible measure of force: a loss of at least US $ 8 million per day.

Flying over strike

The strike of the aeronautical guilds would end up harming the companies they claim to defend much more than those against whose entry and supposed precarization of the market they claim to be. It happens that while Aerolíneas / Austral, Latam Airlines Argentina and Andes Líneas Aéreas would be paralyzed in the face of a strike, their competitor Flybondi could continue to fly, as happened during the last strike called by the CGT, on June 22, 2018. Disturbios Haití provocan cancelaciones

AW | 2018 07 08 05:14 | AIRLINES / AI TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Riots in Haiti cause cancellations

Flights canceled in Haiti by US airlines for fuel increase disturbances

US airlines canceled all flights to Haiti on Saturday as the country’s prime minister called on Haitians to stop blocking roads and burn tires in civil unrest triggered by the announcement of a sharp increase in fuel prices.

The flights remained canceled until further notice despite Prime Minister Jack Guy Lafontant’s announcement that the price increase was suspended. At least three people were killed as a result of violence that began on Friday afternoon, including a police officer and a security guard of a former legislative candidate and opposition leader. In addition, two police stations, one in the city of Gonaives and the other in Carrefour on the outskirts of the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince, were set on fire. Shots fired during demonstrations in the capital and the city of Cavaillon.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Irregularities continue in LAW Airlines

Former employees accuse LAW Airlines of illegal practices

The Court of Appeals of Santiago welcomes the allegations for the protection appeal presented by the airline Latin American Wings (LAW) in a few days, when different workers of the airline accused the airline of irregular practices.

The airline LAW Airlines continues in the controversy over the debt of more than US $ 25 million and the series of complaints about ghost flights and the lack of liquid assets of the company. «We never thought that the money could be taken from Chile», informed sources close to former workers of the airline LAW.

The former Commercial Manager of LAW, Hector Valenzuela, pointed to the poor financial management of the partners. «It was a lot of money that looked and everything was in cash. The sale was made in cash and in the offices, at night, the owners took the money. Some days a lot of money came in. In this company, along the way, the partners realized that they earned a lot of money. I do not think they created this airline to cheat. I think they found a business. They saw it, but then the fumes went to their head and they wanted to grow much more than we could have been. There the company burst», said the former manager.

The former LAW Operations Manager, Sirlor Schulz, also became a party to the allegations and added that «it is not known where the money was left. I do not know if they took them through the airplanes, but they did get fresh money to the company and they did not go to the bank, but to another side».

Next Wednesday the Court of Appeals of Santiago will welcome the allegations for the protection appeal filed by LAW Airlines against the resolution of the aeronautical authority, which had revoked their permission to operate. A \ W
