AW-Icon AW001

Aeropuerto El Palomar.pngJudicial setback for limitations El Palomar

A favorable ruling for the Government of Argentina for the night restrictions of El Palomar Airport

The Government of Argentina obtained a favorable ruling in Justice for the restrictions on night flights at the El Palomar International Airport. The Federal Oral Court of San Martín sanctioned and dismissed the request of lawyer Lucas Marisi, who had requested the disqualification of the Chamber that must decide on future airport operations. The Chamber of Appeals of that locality can now decide whether or not to lift that time limit for take-offs and landings of the first low-cost airport in South America, El Palomar. This decision was received very positively by the Ministry of Transportation, which had appealed to the judicial decision.

Operational restrictions

El Palomar International Airport has suffered a restriction on operations since September 26, 2019, that prevents arrivals and take-offs between the time slot from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. This measure resulted in the cancellation of five air routes connecting Mendoza with Iguazú, Neuquén and Tucumán, and Córdoba with Tucumán and Neuquén; reprogramming and frequency cuts to 13 destinations between national and international; and an estimated total of 39,000 affected passengers in this last month, they maintain from the Ministry of Transportation. Given this measure, the Flybondi Airlines and Jetsmart Airlines Argentina airlines had to generate changes in their schedules, altering frequencies and schedules, and canceling routes that linked inland cities. This has meant that in October 2019 both low-cost has lost 15% of their passengers.

Government Position

The Ministry of Transportation has emphasized that the sound study reports submitted by the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) to Justice before the implementation of the time restriction confirm that there is no noise pollution at El Palomar Airport in the 22nd time slot : 00-07: 00 hs. This report was added to the fifteen monthly studies with 24-hour measurements that were presented since May 2018 and concludes that 100% of the noise generated by the air activity does not exceed the limits set as appropriate according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO ). “The restrictive measure jeopardizes the investment and expansion plans of the two companies that offer more options to fly and that also generated new direct and indirect jobs in the aeronautical and tourism sector. Both airlines employ more than 800 people and the airport’s activity generates approximately 800 direct local jobs”, Transport said.

The new decision of Justice changes the perspectives from the Ministry of Transportation led by Guillermo Dietrich, where they said: «It is an advance. There is still an extraordinary resource that Marisi had imposed on Room 2. But everything brings us closer to the Chamber can issue».

The low cost transported more than 3 million people since they began operating and today passengers on low-cost flights already represent one in five people flying within Argentina, with estimates of 17% of people who traveled for the first time by plane. AW-Icon AW002

Brussels-Zaventem Airport will offer destinations to Morocco and Norway

Brussels-Zaventem Airport is offering two new destinations this winter, Essaouira in Morocco and Tromsø in Norway, and six new routes that would encourage the arrival of 750,000 French people who ingested Belgium.

During the boreal winter season, which will begin on October 27, 2019, Brussels Airport will offer two new destinations that will add to the more than 200 existing ones. The low-cost airline Ryanair adds a new destination to its offer, but also to the airport of the Belgian capital, which flies twice a week to Essaouira, Republic of Morocco. For its part, SAS Scandinavian Airlines will offer a weekly flight to Tromsø in the January-February 2020 season for winter sports enthusiasts and the Northern Lights show.

The airport recalls in its statement that last month, after the bankruptcy in February of Flybmi, Loganair had taken the 10 weekly flights to East Midlands, while Brussels Airlines had resumed daily flights to Bristol (2Fqr/D) and Hanover.

Six new routes are also planned in Zaventem, to Valencia, Seville (Spain), Catania (Italy), Krakow (Poland), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Berlin (Germany). Therefore, Ryanair will fly to southern Europe: to Seville (4Frq/S) and Catania (2Fqr/S) from November 2019. It will also offer its passengers the chance to discover Krakow 4 times a week. For its part, easyJet will fly daily to Berlin-Tegel, also from the beginning of the boreal winter season (twice a day in the summer season). Brussels Airlines will also propose two new routes: from November 4, 2019, it will fly 6 times a week to Ljubljana, taking the routes abandoned by Adria Airways, declared bankrupt, and from February 2020, the city of Valencia will be serviced four times a week (4Frq/S).

Several airlines will also increase the capacity of their flights, either using larger planes or increasing the frequency. Brussels Airlines will offer a daily flight to Birmingham and Thai Airways from November 4, 2019, a sixth weekly flight to Bangkok, while Hainan Airlines will fly to Shenzhen for the third time a week. Delta Air Lines will increase the capacity of flights to Atlanta and New York with Boeing 767-400ER (25 additional seats) aircraft replacing the smaller Boeing 767-300ER, and Air Canada will replace the Boeing 787-8 with a 787-9 (47 additional seats). In Africa, TUIfly will offer a second weekly flight to Mombasa and Zanzibar, while Ethiopian Airlines will fly daily (1Frq/D) to Addis Ababa, which previously flew four times a week.

In 2018, around 750,000 French opted for Brussels Airport: «Holidays, city trips, business trips, Brussels airport is one of the main airports recognized for the quality of its network and hospitality, beyond the Belgian borders», says the airport manager. Located less than 90 minutes’ drive from Lille (France), and easily accessible by train, the international airport offers more than 200 destinations in Europe and around the world, all at very attractive prices.

With 25.7 million passengers and 732,000 tons of cargo per year, Brussels Airport is one of the largest airports in Europe. It connects the European capital with 248 passenger and cargo destinations, which are operated by more than 80 airlines. Brussels Airport «meets the specific needs of business travelers and tourists for intra-European and long-distance traffic. It also offers the widest variety of low-cost destinations from Belgium.» The airport is the second-largest economic growth center in the country and generates 60,000 direct and indirect jobs.AW-Icon AW002

File:Vertekhal Eindhoven airport.jpgAW | 2019 10 15 13:25 | AIRPORTS

Eindhoven and Rotterdam airports reach flight limits due to environmental issues

The airports of Eindhoven and Rotterdam can no longer expand their operations by being at the limit of their environmental levels. Both Dutch airports are committed to growth by reaching the maximum number of flights.

According to Jan Paternotte, from the D66 political party, a pass is needed for both airports and there is no growth. «You can only talk about the growth of the two airports once CO2 emissions, particle emissions, and noise pollution have decreased».

Jan Paternotte believes that it is not necessary to allow additional flights at the two airports for several reasons: «In the Eindhoven area, it is seen that people are increasingly worried about their health due to the enormously rapid growth of Eindhoven Airport. Eindhoven is the fastest growing airport in the Netherlands». In Rotterdam, the province has plans to expand the airport by relocating the helicopters. «That also seems very imprudent, because that results mainly in new vacation flights that do not contribute so much to jobs and the economy in the region», says Paternotte.

Each year about 41,500 flights take off from Eindhoven Airport, while around Rotterdam Airport there are about 20,000 decorations. Jan Paternotte himself has a majority for the plan he wants to present tomorrow to the House of Representatives, along with ChristenUnie, during the discussion of the budget of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. The VVD coalition partner is against. «We have an open conversation about aviation in the coalition in which we know that the VVD wants much more aviation and, therefore, much more aircraft. We believe that there must be an added value for the economy and the region and we do not see that in these two airports», says Jan Paternotte.AW-Icon AW002
