AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

ExpressJet ends as Delta feeder

Expressjet will cancel its alliance as feeder with Delta Air Lines

Under the wing of Delta Connection based in Atlanta, Expressjet will stop flying for Delta Air Lines. ExpressJet is an Atlanta-based airline, formerly known as Atlantic Southeast Airlines or ASA.

Delta Air Lines and Expressjet will terminate their contract in advance by the end of 2018. ExpressJet said it is working to minimize employee reductions and work impact.

ExpressJet also operates for United Airlines as United Express and for American Airlines as American Eagle.

ExpressJet has long been the largest feeder for Delta Connection taking off from Atlanta, and operates about 4.8 percent of flights from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. It has a fleet of Bombardier’s of 28 CRJ-900 and 33 CRJ-700 that serve for flights of Delta Connection.

But ExpressJet has struggled with delays and cancellations for years, while Delta has made efforts to push its regional partners to improve operating performance and keep costs down.

ExpressJet ranked 9 out of 12 airlines for timely arrivals in the first six months of 2017, for example, just ahead of Spirit. Delta ranked 2nd.

The contract between ExpressJet and Delta was due to expire in 2019, but ExpressJet in October will begin to return the aircraft that Delta owns, including all CRJ-900s. Delta plans to maintain most of Atlanta’s 76-seat CRJ-900 and transfer them to Endeavor Air, a Minneapolis-based Delta Connection company that is also a subsidiary of Delta, Delta spokesman Michael Thomas said. Endeavor will expand to routes previously operated by ExpressJet.

Through 2018, ExpressJet plans to transfer the rest of its aircraft to other major carriers. Announced Wednesday an agreement with American Airlines to add eight CRJ-700s to its American Eagle flying in the second quarter of 2018.

SkyWest will continue to fly as a Delta Connection feeder, along with Endeavor; Compass Airlines based in Minneapolis-St. Paul; GoJet based in Missouri and Republic Airways based in Indianapolis. A \ W

United Airlines volará a Paine Field

AW | 2017 08 10 15:34 | AIRPORTS

United Airlines will fly to Paine Field

United Airlines announced it will fly to Paine Field in Everett

United Airlines plans to begin commercial passenger service from Paine Field Airport in Everett in the fall of 2018 with six daily flights to its hubs in Denver and San Francisco, the airline announced Thursday.

United Airlines follows the Alaska Airlines by committing to scheduled flights from Snohomish Airport, ensuring that the planned passenger terminal will operate at near full capacity as soon as it opens next year.

Snohomish Airport will offer passengers an alternative to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport when flying to some popular destinations in the United States.

Dave Hilfman, United’s senior vice president of global sales, said in a statement that «travelers from north Seattle and northwest Washington will now have easy access to our Denver and San Francisco centers and opportunities to connect to business centers around the world».

Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers welcomed the prospect of «daily connections to United’s international centers with international service.»

United offers connecting flights to about 120 destinations in these two cities. The services planned by Alaska and United together should occupy almost completely the two airport doors planned at the new terminal.

In May, the Alaska Air Group said it will begin passenger service, also in the fall of 2018, with tickets on sale early next year for nine daily departures to destinations along the west coast of Oregon to California.

Propeller Airports, which is owned by New York-based private equity firm Propeller Investments, is developing and will operate the terminal, which opened in June.

Seattle and northwest Washington are among the fastest growing areas in the nation, and an essential part of accommodating the continued economic expansion of the region is the introduction of a new option in air passenger transportation at Paine Field. The convenient airport location makes it the ideal choice for passengers looking for a world-class travel experience with a small town feel and convenience.

Paine Field’s new passenger terminal will provide a service that is superior to the larger, busier, and often overcrowded commercial airports. New technology and modern amenities will make flying in and out of Paine Field a simple, enjoyable and aerodynamic travel experience. Paine Field is the preferred airport.

According to data provided by Paine Field, airport traffic in 2016 included an average of 7.6 takeoffs or landings per day by newly launched Boeing aircraft or by Dreamlifter aircraft that bring large pieces of the 787 Dreamliner.

Last year, the airport also saw an average of three takeoffs or landings per day for other large aircraft, most of which are being maintained at ATS aircraft repair and modification facilities. However, 96 percent of flight operations outside of Paine Field today are by small private jets. Propeller has agreed to limit the number of commercial flights to a maximum of 22 per day and restrict commercial air operations to the hours of 7 am to 6 pm.

Paine Field is known as a regional tourist attraction because it is the site of the Boeing widebody-jet plant tour, the Future of Flight exhibition center and two large collections of historic aircraft.

Bill Dolan, deputy director of the airport, said that the arrival of passenger service will make the airport more widely known by travelers. Officials in Everett and Snohomish County and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) fully supported the project. A \ W

Paine Field Airport

Topliff Olin Paine, an Army Air Corps pilot during World War I, was built during the Great Depression to create jobs and economic growth in the region by the WPA in 1936, Eight Years Before the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

In 1939, United operated the first commercial airplane flight out of the airport, carrying Snohomish County commissioners and members of the press.

In those early days, Boeing Field in Seattle was the main regional airport. Paine Field initially served as an alternative landing site on days when time prevented commercial flights from landing in Seattle as well as a center for small private jets.

After Boeing in 1966 chose Paine Field as the site for the construction of its first wide-body aircraft, the 747 jumbo jet, the site became a major hub of Boeing production and today produces the 747, 767, 777 and 787 Jets. A \ W

Sukhoi SSJ-100 desafía mercado de Irán

AW | 2017 08 09 23:43 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Sukhoi SSJ-100 challenges Iran market

Imagen relacionadaManufacturer Sukhoi Aircraft is preparing the documents for submission to the OFAC Office of Foreign Assets Control, to obtain permission to supply aircraft to Iran

US and European aircraft manufacturers are not charged with restrictions similar to Sukhoi Aircraft

Resultado de imagen para SSJ-100 png

Manufacturer Sukhoi will be able to negotiate with Iranian airlines only after it receives approval from the United States side. «Due to the presence of the US SSJ100 aircraft components we are preparing the documents for submission to the OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), the authority to control US foreign treasury assets, to obtain approval for delivery From SSJ100 to Iran «, including the time of receipt of the permits. Therefore, the market access of the SSJ100 to Iran has been delayed for an indefinite period.

The required documents were not only sent to the US, nor even prepared. A potential market for regional aircraft in Iran, of the Superjet, is estimated at 100 units. In February 2017, Russia’s energy minister, co-chair of the Russian-Iranian intergovernmental commission Alexander Novak, said about the Islamic Republic’s readiness to buy 12 SSJ100s in the near future.

COMPANIES PARTICIPATING IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF SUKHOI SSJ-100

A division of the American Treasury OFAC, a key structure, monitors compliance with sanctions, particularly against Cuba, Iran, North Korea and other countries. Attorney for «open space business» Anton Sonich Office explained that the delivery of aircraft without the approval of OFAC foreign policy threatens to aggravate the situation and deterioration of diplomatic relations between the two countries. In addition, prohibitions on sanctions against intruders can be fined. Therefore, French bank BNP Paribas had to pay $ 9 billion in transactions on behalf of customers in Iran, Sudan and Cuba. The paradox lies in the fact that sanctions, which makes it difficult to supply Superjet formally with US components withdrew from Iran again in 2016, as OFAC was officially declared.

While GSS is preparing documents for the US Treasury structure, domestic aircraft manufacturers’ competitors already take place under the sun. In December, Airbus signed a major contract with Iranian authorities for a total of $ 18 billion, which involves the delivery of 100 aircraft. At the same time, Tehran has agreed a US corporation Boeing: Iran will sell carriers 80 aircraft at $ 16.6 billion.

Iranian airlines operate just over 100 aircraft with an average age of over 25 years. An additional demand on the Iranian market for passenger aircraft is estimated at approximately 400-500 units. Even with large orders to Airbus and Boeing in the Iranian market, it still can not be considered saturated.

The share of imports in the supply of materials and products for the SSJ100 was 72%, representing about 34% of material costs in the aircraft’s cost structure. Also the company is taking measures on the importation of systems and equipment for the SSJ100.

SUKHOI SSJ-100

Superjet uses a number of key US corporate production systems: Hamilton Sundstrand (Avionics), Goodrich Corporation (wheel brakes and brake control), Parker (hydraulics), Honeywell (auxiliary power unit). The selection of suppliers is determined by the quality of the products, the accumulated competences, and the terms of the cooperation. Thales supplies avionics, engines manufactured by PowerJet (a joint venture between NPO Saturno and the French Snecma). The final assembly of the motor is carried out in Rybinsk.

Russia believes it is technically capable of replacing US components, but Iran will not wait. Although Sukhoi is confident that he can trade with the Republic of Iran. The SSJ100 has the opportunity to find its niche, as it does not actually compete directly with Airbus and Boeing, which produce the term and medium-range airplanes from medium-to-long radius of action.

Analyst «Alor Broker» Kirill Yakovenko believes that the lifting of sanctions after Tehran could use contacts with «Sukhoi Civil Aircraft» as a bargaining chip to drive down the price in the US. And European. The country’s former fleet consists of Airbus and Boeing. For Sukhoi, sanctions effectively put an end to the possibility of unimpeded expansion of the Iraqi market in the absence of competition from the two leading aircraft companies.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia plans to set up Indonesia’s center for repair and maintenance of the new Russian MS-21 passenger jet, mass production is scheduled to begin in 2019. «We expect the MS-21 will be from the Demand in the fast-growing air travel market in Indonesia», he said.

Russian authorities and aircraft manufacturers do not hide the fact that in terms of moving abroad has high expectations of the new short and medium coating. The manufacturer Irkut said that there are foreign customers with so-called soft contracts (with the possibility of buying in the future), terms that the company does not disclose. The C919 aircraft is declared as a competitor for the last Boeing 737 MAX and Airbus A320NEO. You will be able to compete successfully with them, however, that’s hard to say. Dependence on foreign partners is expected to be lower, if only because the installation of the internal PD-14 engine on the aircraft will be imported only at 40%.      A \ W

Estudio en gansos ahorran combustible

AW | 2017 08 09 17:35 | ENGINEERING

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Study on geese allow fuel reduction

Boeing and NASA find in geese the trick to reduce fuel costs

Boeing and NASA have studied the capabilities to reduce fuel consumption of airlines by borrowing a trick from the world’s largest long-distance flyers, migratory birds.

By aligning aircraft in a V-formation, preferred by Canadian geese, operators could leapfrog in efficiency without investing in futuristic technology or structural transformations. The idea is to unite the convoys in flight safely using navigation tools and to avoid collisions that are already widely installed in the cabins.

«Think of a car that goes behind a truck or a cyclist pedaling behind another,» said Mike Sinnett, vice president of product development for Boeing. «Essentially it allows you, if you are flying in the right place, to reduce your fuel consumption, but it has to be there for a long time.»

Resultado de imagen para goose pngWakesurfing, as it is known in English to the technique used by birds, involves harnessing the power of a leading aircraft, a possible way to reduce fuel bills, which are often located as the largest or second largest expense of airlines. A NASA researcher points to studies that show fuel savings of 10 to 15 percent, coupled with more expensive options such as upgrading engines or installing flippers. Wakesurfing, also known as «vortex surfing» or, in even more technical language, automated cooperative trajectories, takes advantage of the cone-shaped columns of air that swirl for miles behind the tips of an airplane’s wings. Through careful positioning, the planes that go behind can gain an extra boost from the top of that circular current, saving fuel without giving passengers a jumping trip.

Obstacles to programming
However, there is a problem and it is not just that lower oil prices have given airlines some relief from fuel bills in recent years, or that current regulatory requirements require a minimum separation between aircraft.

Resultado de imagen para goose pngBefore airplanes can plan on vortices at 30,000 feet (9,100 meters), operators would have to determine how to program airplanes on the same route with extreme accuracy. That’s a lot to ask an industry already bewildered by weather conditions, employee hours, maintenance requirements and air traffic congestion. «In any case, airlines can barely keep programming,» said aviation consultant Robert Mann, an aerospace and exejective engineer for an airline. «I would say they can not.» Flight training is more promising for services with fewer scheduling variables, such as manned and unmanned military aircraft.

The NASA experiment
Cargo operators could change the schedule or routes to make multiple aircraft arrive at the same location at the same time, said Curt Hanson, NASA senior flight control researcher.

NASA measured considerable fuel savings that could be achieved without the passengers or flight crew being uncomfortable, said Hanson, who is based at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center in Edwards, California. «We were able to fly in a stable, neat location within the training for long periods of time,» he said. The agency is still analyzing data and will not publish the results until months later. A \ W

Airlink de Sudáfrica inicia operaciones con Embraer E190

AW | 2017 08 09 17:17 | AIRLINES ROUTES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Airlink of South Africa begins operations of Embraer E190

South African regional airline Airlink has begun operations with Embraer E190

Airlink, based in Johannesburg, has acquired three Embraer E190 and commissioned 13 E190 and E170, gradually replacing the existing fleet of 12 Avro RJ85s. The airline said the E190 will allow it to introduce a business class cabin on the routes of Pietermaritzburg and Bulawayo, as well as giving passengers additional seating space.

The E190 is configured with six business class seats and 92 economy seats. The E-Jets will also provide Airlink with operational performance and superior range, according to the airline, which also operates a significant fleet of ERJ 135, ERJ 140 and ERJ 145. Eleven additional ERJ 140s began arriving in December 2016 and will carry The ERJ fleet to type 30 at the end of this year.

A new route for the E190s, which will be ETOPS certified, will be the route from Johannesburg to St. Helena. St Helena is a remote British-owned island in the South Atlantic, which has been looking for a suitable aircraft to serve its new airport after windshear and tailwind problems which made it unsuitable for the originally planned operator, Comair South Africa. The British Airways franchisee, Comair, had planned to operate a Boeing 737-800 on the island.

The government of St Helena and Airlink signed an agreement in July 2017 for scheduled air services. In the coming weeks, Airlink will be finalizing regulatory approvals with the South African Civil Aviation Authority for the St. Helena liaison. After the necessary approvals, services are expected to start in October.

The E190 will have a refueling stop at the Windhoek International Airport, Namibia both outbound and back. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

China Southern Airlines is considering an order for Bombardier CSeries aircraft to replace Embraer 190.

Bombardier would be well-favored to obtain a new market, the Asiatic, which has not yet won agreements to supply the CSeries to Chinese operators, despite having hired the AVIC aviation industry to build Imagen relacionadamuch of its structure.

China Southern Airlines has acquired its Embraer E190 in 2011. But because of the increased demand it wants larger and more economical aircraft, for this it is deciding replacements with a 130-seat aircraft. The Bombardier CS300 would fit well enough with the requirements of the Chinese airline.   A \ W
