United leaves 11 US cities
United Airlines stops operating eleven cities in the United States
United Airlines has abandoned eleven domestic routes in search of being more efficient and sustainable. Although the rebound that has been generated in the US airline sector, the airline has decided to eliminate some unprofitable routes within the United States.
The small city market has been the most affected at this juncture of the global health crisis, as the main airlines have modified their flights based on the demand of each route. United Airlines will leave routes such as Kalamazoo—Battle Creek, Michigan to which American Airlines and Delta Air Lines will continue to fly from Chicago and Detroit. The College Station, Texas destination has also been abolished. The option for this city will be American from Dallas-Fort Worth. Columbia, Missouri has been canceled, but American continues to fly from Chicago, to Mosinee, Wisconsin, however Delta will operate to that city from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit and domestic flights from Chicago. United Airlines will also leave Evansville, Indiana, with only American from Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Charlotte, North Carolina, and Delta Air Lines from Atlanta and Detroit. Another option is Allegiant Air, which flies from Evansville to Orlando and Destin in Florida. The Killeen-Fort Hood, Texas destination has been canceled; it will be connected only to American with service to Dallas-Fort Worth. Another route that United leaves is Lansing, Michigan and American will continue from Washington, DC and Chicago and Delta will operate flights from Detroit.
United Airlines has increased frequencies in connectivity between New York and Washington. The airline will become the only one to offer the largest number of flights between these two cities. United will achieve nearly hourly shuttle service between Newark/Liberty International Airport and Reagan National Airport and will add five new flights between New York/LaGuardia Airport and Washington/Dulles Airport. In total, United will operate about 32 daily flights between the cities of NYC and DC.
BA Euroflyer airline is born
IAG creates BA Euroflyer brand for low cost sector
The International Aviation group (IAG) has created a low cost subsidiary of British Airways (BA) called BA Euroflyer. The new brand has been officially registered this Wednesday, November 10, 2021. The new startup under the wing of the aviation group will continue to maintain the visual identity of British Airways but with a different structure. The corporate structure of the low cost will be developed with its own structure, for which British Airways has just registered the BA Euroflyer brand to connect from London/Gatwick/LGW Airport with the rest of Europe.
The new budget company has been officially registered and will probably be the one that will end up regulating labor relations with the workforce. British Airways, following the agreement with the pilot unions, which allowed it to launch the operation, has not given much information. It is simply known that the company will have different labor relations from the parent company and that it will operate from the last week of March 2022. It will not control all operations from London/Gatwick because it also operates a branch of business to the Caribbean and Florida from that airport, which maintains both its structure and its usual labor standards. British Airways suspended its short and medium range flights in London/Gatwick when the pandemic began in March 2020. The business had never been profitable and the pandemic has aggravated the situation by suspending activity indefinitely. Previously, the planes covered routes in Mallorca, Alicante and Malaga, in Spain. But after the travel transport crisis as a result of the pandemic, new opportunities have been created to revive a low-cost business unit from the air station.
Union agreement
A breakthrough in negotiations with the union representing flight attendants has spurred British Airways to target March 2022 for the debut of its new short-haul service from London/Gatwick Airport. The new development follows a breakthrough in last month’s October 2021 talks with the pilots union. The airline agreed to better salaries and other benefits for members of the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA) to operate the planes in the new low-cost operation. The union brought the new proposal to its members and 82 percent voted to accept the agreement. «Our plans for a new BA subsidiary to fly short haul at Gatwick are progressing well, and while we still have some additional negotiations to resolve, it seems likely that we will be in place to fly the summer schedule [2022]», said the CEO and President of BA, Sean Doyle, in a statement.
BA Euroflyer outlook
The plans of the startup BA Euroflyer are to develop a network of short-haul services from London/Gatwick Airport, the second busiest airport in the UK. British Airways has made great progress with the union representing the cabin crew allowing under the wing of the British company to regulate the operations of the new budget unit. BA’s new low-cost airline subsidiary will handle regional and leisure routes from Gatwick, which is very important to the airline’s operations from a UK perspective outside the European Community (EC). The airline’s short-haul service has been essentially grounded for eighteen months due to the pandemic. The loss of business caused BA to contemplate leaving Gatwick entirely and relocating its flights to London/Heathrow/ LHR.
This new budget offering managed by BA is designed to keep the airline competitive in national airspace. Leisure travel is expected to pick up heavily after the last year and a half in which most people were unable to travel and visit family. With relaxed travel protocols and the UK’s staggered travel system being scrapped, cautious optimism is permeating the air travel industry. British Airways believes that relaunching its short-haul services and leisure routes to places like Jersey/JER, Malaga/AGP and Faro/FAO from London/Gatwick is key to triggering its post-pandemic recovery.

Belavia no admite iraquíes, sirios y yemeníes procedentes Turquía
Belavia blocks pax from Turkey
Belavia not admitting Iraqis, Syrians and Yemenis on flights Turkey
The Belarusian state airline Belavia announced this 11/11 that it will stop accepting citizens of Iraq, Syria and Yemen on flights from Turkey to Belarus, thus closing one of the routes used by migrants to reach Minsk and from there to the border with the European Union (EU). «By virtue of the decision of the competent authorities of Turkey, from today the citizens of Iraq, Syria and Yemen will not be admitted on flights between Turkey and Belarus», the company said in a brief statement on its corporate page.
This step comes in the midst of the migration crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border, where some 2,000 migrants from the Middle East, particularly from those three countries, have gathered since Monday 08/11 to try to cross into the EU. The European Union is preparing new sanctions against Belarus for the hybrid war it is waging with the transport of migrants to the community border to, according to them, destabilize the European Union. The works in Brussels include exploring not only new restrictive measures against Belavia, but also against third-country airlines that are actively involved in human trafficking.
Both Turkish Airlines and Aeroflot Russian Airlines have denied any involvement in the transport of undocumented migrants to Belarus. Turkish Airlines operates ten flights a week to Minsk, a number similar to that of Belavia. The Belarusian state airline denied in late October that it was bringing irregular migrants to the EU, while Alexandr Lukashenko’s government has said they enter Belarus legally, with visas that activists say are organized from Minsk.
On Wednesday November 10, the Belarusian lawyer Aliona Chejovich, an immigration expert, did not hesitate in statements to Efe that it was the Belarusian regime that organized the flow of illegal immigrants in recent months to the European Community. «The authorities were the ones who launched an advertising campaign several months ago in which Belarus was listed as the transit country to the EU», she commented from Minsk. In this campaign, according to Aliona Chejovich, the tourist agencies and tour operators that depend on the presidential administration would participate and benefit. The activist herself spoke with several immigrants who in the last two weeks tried unsuccessfully to cross the border with the EU. «They are mostly Kurds from Iraq, but there are also Syrians and Iranians. They told us that they paid, granted them a tourist visa, booked a hotel room or an apartment in Minsk, and tried to cross into Europe through the forest», Aliona Chejovich recounted.
Since last spring, attempts at illegal entry into Latvia, Lithuania and Poland from Belarus have multiplied. That’s after Alexandr Lukashenko openly declared that he will stop preventing the arrival of undocumented migrants to the EU in response to sanctions imposed by the West for the fraudulent 2020 presidential elections, the subsequent crackdown and the crash landing of a European flight in May to arrest a dissident.

FAA engineering concern Boeing
Concern about designation of engineers named aircraft certification
The Boeing Company has appointed low-skilled engineers to oversee its aircraft certification program, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In a letter to Boeing last week, the FAA has raised complaints that in interviews with the company’s recently appointed safety engineers this summer it had found that many are not meeting the FAA’s expectations.
The appointments were made to fill vacancies left in the company’s safety engineer ranks after Boeing offered early retirement to some of its highest FAA-authorized members during the COVID-19 pandemic. At one point, more than twenty engineers from a single certification specialty left Boeing in just one week, according to an FAA safety engineer who remained anonymous because they were not licensed by the aviation agency. The FAA letter noted that of the twelve recent appointments tasked with dealing with safety issues, nearly 40 percent have struggled to demonstrate an understanding of the FAA’s certification processes.
The Boeing Company said on Wednesday 10/11 that it plans to improve the selection process for individuals designated for engineering positions, as well as for its general aircraft certification standards. The new rules will soon require the FAA to approve and interview every engineer who is appointed. The agency will also review existing members as part of the new law in response to the fatal Boeing 737 MAX aircraft crashes that killed more than 300 people. «We are committed to ensuring the highest levels of safety and quality in everything we do, and that includes the important work of Boeing employees who are designated as authorized representatives. We respect the FAA’s oversight role and look forward to strengthening the process. selection of ODA and the program in general», said Boeing.
Last week, FAA Chief Steve Dickson told a US Senate Committee that «Boeing is not the same as it was two years ago, but they have more to work on» regarding the 737 MAX jets that crashed. in 2018 and 2019. The Department of Justice has fined Boeing US $ 2.5 billion and filed a charge against the company of conspiracy to defraud the United States in January 2021.
Akasa Air, startup india
Boeing prepares order for Akasa Air
Boeing prepares dominance in Indian market with 737 MAX order Order approximation for Akasa Air
The Boeing Company could win a crucial deal as early as this weekend for some 70 to 80 fourth-generation jets from the Boeing 737 MAX line of Indian start-up airline Akasa Air, a Mumbai-based startup backed by billionaire investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, it was previously reported that he was in talks with the American builder about an eventual order for narrowbodies airplanes. A deal could be announced during the Dubai Airshow on November 14-18, 2021 in the United Arab Emirates.
A deal of that size to take on the most popular variant of the 737 MAX family, which most regulators have now approved for recertification, is in a position to fly again after two plane crashes. India is a major commercial aviation market that is being dominated by Airbus-Boeing. India was one of the world’s fastest growing aviation markets in pre-pandemic times, but it promises to resume its potential. Any transaction would allow Boeing to establish itself firmly in a market dominated by European Airbus aircraft. Market leader IndiGo is the world’s largest customer for the European manufacturer’s best-selling A320 family aircraft with orders for more than 700 aircraft. Low-cost carrier SpiceJet is currently the only Indian customer under the American 737 MAX model, after Jet Airways India Ltd. collapsed due to debt problems in 2019.
Akasa Air, Indian startup
Akasa Air, operated by parent SNV Aviation, plans to offer flights across India starting in the summer of 2022 after receiving initial approval from the country’s Ministry of Civil Aviation in October 2021. The airline is also backed by Aditya Ghosh , former Head of IndiGo, and Vinay Dube, a Delta Air Lines veteran who also helped run Jet Airways.
Akasa Air has held talks with Airbus Group, but Boeing jets could be delivered earlier, with the first batch of ten units in the first half of next year 2022 and the rest within three years. Akasa Air is still working on the finer details of its launch, including its brand identity. Akasa is among a handful of new airlines emerging around the world, making it possible to take advantage of a drop in aircraft leasing rates after the pandemic hit air travel and hundreds of planes were parked in deserts and airports.

Air Canada and Southwest Airlines partner with green-techs
Southwest Airlines has signed a fifteen-year agreement with a Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) producer, and Air Canada is working with a decarbonization technology company that could also spur further SAF production, the airlines announced separately Wednesday. . In Southwest’s deal with Velocys Renewables, the carrier will receive 219 million gallons of SAF, which can be blended with conventional jet fuel to produce up to 575 million gallons of net zero carbon fuel, according to the carrier. During the period of the agreement, it could potentially reduce carbon emissions by 6.5 million metric tons.
Velocys CEO Henrik Wareborn said the company’s fuel is «the lowest carbon intensity sustainable aviation fuel announced to date. The SAF produced at the Bayou Fuels facility plans to use a sustainable raw material, forest residues from plantation forests, and renewable energy from a neighboring solar facility, as well as a contract for carbon capture that will sequester more than 500,000 tons of dioxide. of carbon per year. It is also expected to have a greater than 99 percent reduction in sulfur compared to conventional jet fuel, reducing emissions of this conventional pollutant», said Henrik Wareborrn.
Southwest Airlines plans to begin purchasing fuel from Velocys’ Natchez, Miss. Facility in 2026 at the earliest, and the agreement also includes rights to purchase significant volumes of fuel from future Velocys facilities, according to Southwest. The airline aims to replace 10 percent of its jet fuel consumption with SAF by 2030, according to Southwest Airlines Senior Director of Fuel Supply Chain Management Michael AuBuchon. Southwest announced in recent weeks a SAF fuel purchase program with corporate customers, in which companies pay the cost of the fuel premium through cash or UATP funds to receive carbon credits for their emissions, but the amount of Currently available fuel limits opportunities for participation. Deloitte, Siemens and Zurich North America are initial partners in the program.
Air Canada, for its part, announced a memorandum of understanding with the Canadian energy firm Carbon Engineering, which aims to deploy technology capable of capturing carbon on a large scale, removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The airline will work with the firm «to advance new transformative technologies toward commercial viability of SAHs and carbon removal». according to Air Canada Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Amos Kazzaz. In addition to permanently storing captured carbon dioxide deep underground, the captured carbon could potentially be used to develop ultra-low-carbon fuels, including SAF, when combined with clean hydrogen, according to Air Canada.
Carbon Engineering has been operating a pilot plant in British Columbia that captures carbon dioxide since 2015, and is working to deploy megaton-scale facilities. One such large-scale facility is under development in the United States by 1PointFive, in which United Airlines, a partner of Air Canada, announced a multi-million dollar investment last year, and is targeting 2024 to begin operating.

Azul raises losses +80% third quarter
Azul seeks to balance its finances and strategies
The Brazilian airline Azul Linhas Aéreas reported this Thursday 11/11 a loss of R$ 2,240 million Reais/US$ 408 million in the third quarter of this year (3Q2021), an increase of 82.4% compared to the loss of R$ 1,200 million Reais/US$ 218 million registered in the same interannual period of 2020. The airline, which in the month of 10/2021 confirmed that it wants to buy the entirety of Latam Airlines Group, reported that the negative result is the result of higher financial expenses related to interest on loans and aircraft rental, as published by Examination. Despite the negative result, operating income grew almost 60%, to R$ 2,710 million Reais/US$ 494 million. This amount represents 89.7% of the levels registered in the third quarter of 2019, before the pandemic. The company also managed, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, to recover operating income per available seat kilometer (ASK), which closed at 31.4 cents, an increase of 12.5% compared to the previous quarter. «In the quarter, we recovered our unit revenues to pre-pandemic levels, one of the few airlines in the world that has already reached this milestone and has done so a quarter ahead of our expectations», highlighted the President of Azul Linhas Aéreas, John Rodgerson .
The result measured by Ebitda (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization), totaled R$ 485.6 million Reais/US$ 88.5 million) from July to September, higher than the R$ 198 million Reais/US$ 36 million from the same period last year 2020. Azul’s operating expenses increased 22.8% in the period, pressured by the 28.6% increase in fuel prices and devaluation of the Brazilian currency.
Azul Linhas Aéreas is waiting until November 23, 2021, when the legal limit of Latam Group is exhausted to reach a Restructuring Plan that allows it to exit Chapter 11, to present its offer with which it intends to become the largest airline group in the region.
