KLM incrementa vuelos 2022

AW | 2022 03 23 15:28 | AIRLINES / AIRLINES ROUTES

KLM operará 167 vuelos directos verano boreal 2022

KLM increases flights 2022

KLM will operate 167 direct flights summer 2022

The demand for air travel is increasing as pandemic restrictions are lifted in European Union countries. KLM Airlines is responding by expanding capacity on European routes by 10% compared to last year, nearly matching the pre-pandemic level of 2019. This equates to some 16 million seats in total. The Portuguese cities of Porto and Lisbon, with three and four flights a day respectively, are just some of the destinations experiencing an increase in KLM flights.

The success of the new destinations Belgrade, Dubrovnik and Palma de Mallorca, which were added to the KLM route network in 2021, means that they will once again be included in the summer calendar. KLM is also expecting business travelers to return, so frequencies are being added to British, German and Polish routes. Services to kyiv, Saint Petersburg and Moscow continue to be suspended. KLM is closely following developments in the region.

Between 03/27 and 10/29 KLM will fly to 96 European and 71 intercontinental destinations, offering a large number of flight options for both business and leisure travellers. KLM is also increasing capacity on its intercontinental route network by 17% compared to last year, in response to an upward trend in bookings. This summer, KLM will operate daily flights to Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao, increasing the frequency to Curaçao to twice a day during the summer holiday season. Port of Spain, KLM’s new tropical destination in the winter timetable, is also included in the summer timetable, offering customers three weekly flights between Amsterdam and the capital of Trinidad and Tobago.

Since the United States eased travel restrictions in November 2021, the demand for flights has grown steadily. KLM’s capacity to the United States this summer matches that of 2019. The resumption of flights to Salt Lake City and the new addition of Austin to our network, means that KLM will operate direct services this summer to 12 destinations in the United States, the highest number in history. Austin, the state capital of Texas, is a thriving tech hub and home to a large number of tech companies. It is also a thriving student town with a vibrant nightlife, Formula 1 and the main annual South by Southwest (SXSW) festival. KLM will operate three flights a week to Austin from March 28.

A larger number of Asian countries are opening up to visitors again. Although Covid-19 travel restrictions vary from country to country, summer demand is increasing for destinations such as the Philippines, Thailand, Singapore and Bali. India has also indicated that it will ease travel restrictions. KLM will respond by increasing frequencies to Delhi and Mumbai. Asia remains a strong and important market for cargo, allowing us to continue to operate low-frequency services to all pre-pandemic destinations.

Travel restrictions continue in China, which means that we are not yet able to resume our regular network services to China. Due to EU sanctions against Russia, KLM does not operate in Russian airspace. Flight times to and from South Korea, Japan and China are consequently two hours longer than usual on average. Flights to Japan and China are making a stopover in Seoul.

Capacity on most routes to South America has been restored to roughly pre-pandemic levels. We are currently operating daily services to Sao Paulo, Panama City and Lima, with a minimum of six flights a week to Quito/Guayaquil, Bogota/Cartagena, Rio de Janeiro, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile.

Passengers who want to fly to Africa this summer can now choose from ten destinations. Capacity has been expanded on many routes, compared to last summer, to meet growing demand. Zanzibar, which was added to our route network last year, is once again included in the summer timetable. KLM also operates services to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Accra, Lagos, Kigali, Entebbe, Nairobi, Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam.

KLM verhoogt vluchten 2022

KLM gaat zomer 2022 167 directe vluchten uitvoeren

US carrier Alaska Airlines is currently testing new technology to optimize the passenger experience at San José Mineta/SJC International Airport. New technologies are focused to advance the way people travel. The airline has stated that it plans to «modernize travel from reimagining the lobby to testing innovative technology that streamlines the airport experience to boarding your flight with biometrics», Alaska Airlines said.

«As we grow our airline and fly more people to more places, we’re looking for unique ways to create a seamless travel experience for our guests. At the San José Mineta/SJC Airport, Alaska is introducing tables equipped with Apple iPad Pro that can be used to scan boarding passes, print bag tags and label bags. To use the iPads, passengers must scan their boarding pass received at check-in, then print their bag tag, and then, once their bag has been tagged, they can proceed to the new bag drop station. from Alaska to drop them off. The new enhancement is expected to cut the 8.5-minute average time spent in the lobby in half and give customers more opportunities to avoid congested areas.

Alaska is also allowing passengers to check in for their flight using the airline’s mobile app or website, where they can also pay for any checked bags and reserve food for their flight. Customer service agents are also equipped with iPad Mini so they can immediately serve customers at any point of contact in Alaska. The airline has also unveiled a new bag drop station at San José Airport. «Alaska was the first airline to implement self-service airport kiosks in 2007, and we hope to be the first to eliminate them. Simply because we are at our best when we can meet guests where they are and take care of them the moment they walk into our space», said Charu Jain.

The airline is currently using biometric technology to expedite the boarding process for international flights from SJC. «Biometric boarding uses facial recognition to verify identity and shorten security procedures for those passengers who opt in to the programs. For guests who are concerned about security, we do not retain any images and offer our guests the option of choosing to use biometrics. While it will never be mandatory, we believe it is the future of travel», said Charu Jain. Sam Frost, Senior Customer Service Agent at SJC, added, «I’m excited to shape the future of the industry with our new technology. Ultimately, it will make our guests feel more in control of their trip and align our experience with the retail spaces of technology industry leaders such as Apple and Microsoft«.

Air Canadá ordena A321XLR

AW | 2022 03 22 12:20 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

Air Canada orders A321XLR

Air Canada orders Airbus A321XLR (6) for network expansion

Air Canada has confirmed an order with Airbus Group for six (6) A321XLR aircraft, previously listed as undisclosed in the Airbus order book. With this commitment, Air Canada’s A321XLR fleet will comprise 26 units, including an additional twenty A321XLRs (20) that the airline will acquire through lessors.

“Air Canada is committed to further strengthening its leadership position in the market, especially through investments in new technologies. The acquisition of the latest generation Airbus A321XLR is an important element of this strategy and will drive our top priorities of improving the customer experience, advancing our environmental goals, expanding the network and increasing our overall profitability. This order also shows that Air Canada is emerging strong from the pandemic and is ideally positioned to grow, compete and thrive in a reshaped global aviation industry”, said Michael Rousseau, Air Canada Chairman and CEO.

“The exceptional versatility and performance of the A321XLR will enable Air Canada to further sustainably expand its network with increased efficiency and reduced CO2 emissions. We thank Air Canada for their trust in us and are delighted with the progress in our long-standing relationship”, said Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer and Head of Airbus International.

The A321XLR is a perfect fit for Air Canada’s fleet, given its history of operating the entire A320 family, as well as Airbus’ long-range A330-300 widebody and, more recently, the next-generation single-aisle aircraft. of Airbus, the A220. The new Airbus A321XLR aircraft is an ideal replacement for older, less fuel efficient aircraft. The next-generation single-aisle jet will allow Air Canada to add new destinations in the most sustainable way.

The A321XLR is the next evolutionary step in the A320NEO family of aircraft, meeting market requirements to increase range and payload in a single-aisle aircraft and creating more value for airlines by enabling economically viable service on routes longer than any comparable aircraft model. It will allow services from eastern Canada to a much wider selection of European destinations.

The A321XLR will offer an unprecedented range of single-aisle aircraft up to 4,700nm, with 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to previous generation aircraft, as well as reduced NOx emissions and noise . The aircraft will feature the Airbus Airspace cabin, offering a new level of comfort for passengers on long-haul flights. As of the end of February 2022, the A320neo Family had accumulated almost 7,900 orders from more than 120 customers worldwide. Orders for the A321XLR totaled 515 from 25 customers.

Nunavut aprueba ayudas aerolíneas

AW | 2022 03 22 12:05 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

The Government of Nunavut approves another US$ 22 million in support for airlines. The Government has paid US$ 109 million in subsidies so far. Nunavut lawmakers approved another round of money to help the territory’s airlines break even to operate in Nunavut, Canada. The Minister of Finance, Adam Arreak Lightstone, made the request in the Legislature on Monday 03/21 to cover the airlines from January to March 2022. He said that the extra money is necessary to help the airlines continue to maintain a minimum service to the communities of Nunavut. «We are now at the point where airlines are as dependent on our subsidies as they are on the crucial services they provide to our communities. We cannot just abruptly end these financial supports that we have been providing. Otherwise, that would have a detrimental impact in our communities», Arreak Lightstone told the House, adding that it is a safe assumption that airlines are not benefiting from the subsidies.

To date, Nunavut taxpayers have paid US$ 109 million in subsidies to airlines, Arreak Lightstone said. But he clarified that airlines have reimbursed US$ 53 million through medical and tax travel ticket refunds and excess cash. «We are providing a subsidy to help airlines break even with their Nunavut operations», Arreak Lightstone said.

TATA-Airbus conversaciones por A350

AW | 2022 03 22 11:33 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

Tata Group econversaciones con Airbus para adquisición A350XWB

Airbus_Isologotype_svg

TATA-Airbus talks for A350

Tata Group in talks with Airbus for A350XWB acquisition

India’s Tata Group is in talks with Airbus Group for the acquisition of its wide-body aircraft such as the Airbus A350. President and CEO of Airbus India and South Asia, Remi Maillard, said on March 21 that the Tata Group is in talks with Airbus for an agreement regarding the acquisition of its A350XWB wide-body aircraft, an aircraft type that It has been selected for having larger fuel tanks that allow them to travel longer distances. «Obviously we are in talks with all the airlines. Air India’s new owner Tatas are existing Airbus customers», Remi Maillard said when asked if the European planemaker is in talks with Tata and other Indian airlines to the commercial aircraft agreement.

«Tata has Vistara and AirAsia India as part of the group as we know. We have developed a long-standing relationship of trust and respect with the Tata Group», he told a news conference. The Tata Group currently operates four Indian airlines: Air India, Air India Express, Vistara and AirAsia India. Tata Sons had bought an equity stake in Air India and Air India Express in September 2021. Remi Maillard said that the Tata Group is also an Airbus partner in the defense business.

Wide-body jets like the A350-900/1000 have larger fuel tanks that allow them to travel longer distances compared to narrow-body jets like the A320NEO. A350 aircraft can travel in excess of 8,000 nautical miles, with a flight time of approximately 18 hours on one flight.

The wide-body aircraft fleet in India has been stagnant for the last twenty years. The single-aisle aircraft fleet has grown by a factor of six in the same time period. «We predict an average annual growth of 6.2 percent for air traffic out of India. The world average is 3.9 percent,» Remi Maillard noted. Airbus is quite bullish on the international long-haul market outside of India, he said. «We believe that the kind of revolution that we have witnessed in domestic traffic in the last twenty years will now happen in the long-haul market in Asia. We believe that the new generation aircraft, the A350, will be the trigger for this revolution in the market. international long-distance service», said the Director General for India and South Asia.

Delta prepara orden 100 737 MAX

AW | 2022 03 18 22:17 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

Boeing y Delta anunciarían mega-orden del MAX
Delta Air Lines ordenaría cien Boeing 737-10 MAX

Boeing 737 MAX_Isologotype

Delta_Isoglotype_Intersected

Boeing_Isologotype

Delta_Isoglotype_Intersected

Delta Air Lines is studying a mega-order with the American manufacturer The Boeing Company for one hundred Boeing 737-10 MAX (100). The MAX 10 is the highest performance model that is currently close to the date of operational certification. Talks between Delta and Boeing about the 737 MAX began in November 2020, when CEO Ed Bastian of the Atlanta-based airline commented on interest in the modern, fourth-generation 737 aircraft. He said that if there is an opportunity where his airline feels comfortable taking on the aircraft type, Delta would be buying the product.

Delta Air Lines was a historical customer of the McDonnell Douglas MD80/MD-90 line, which after the merger with Boeing, the company opted for the Boeing 737 Next Generation and Airbus A320NEO products. Currently, Delta Airlines is the only major airline in the United States that does not operate the Boeing 737 MAX line in its fleet. There have been rumors for a couple of years that Delta has placed an order for a Boeing 737 MAX, though so far nothing has materialized. Following the 737 MAX crisis and the pandemic-impacted travel crisis, Delta and Boeing are in advanced talks on a large Boeing 737 MAX order.

The signing of the agreement could arrive around the month of April 2022, reaching a mega-order in the 737-10 MAX model, the aircraft with the highest performance and capabilities of the fourth generation of the 737 MAX line. Closing the deal would deliver Delta Air Lines’ first Boeing 737 MAX order, as well as the Atlanta (GA)-based airline’s first new order for Boeing aircraft in nearly a decade.

Delta & Strategies

Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian has been hinting at the possibility of a deal with Boeing for many months, stating that «there is certainly a place for the MAX if we can figure out how to bring them in». When Delta buys new planes, it’s usually looking for a great deal. Delta has long been an opportunistic buyer of commercial aircraft and has adopted a different strategy than other major airlines in the United States. Delta is happy to buy used planes, they can often be bought for a fraction of the much lower costs of new planes, while keeping the interiors nice so customers don’t feel like they’re flying an older plane.

Delta recently picked up some used Airbus A350s. We could imagine that for a long time Delta did not buy the 737 MAX it was a great competitive advantage. When the plane was grounded due to two fatal accidents, it presented a great challenge for American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, as they had to significantly reduce their capacities and increase operating costs. With the 737 MAX flying once more, the scenario of insecurity continues to be left behind, a clearing that allows Delta Air Lines to establish an advantageous negotiation. The forthcoming agreement would mark a change of direction expected by The Boeng Company, since Delta airlines was one of the last American mega-carriers where there could be the possibility of conquering a large part of the order market in its own territory.

Delta & fleet update

The airline Delta Air Lines continues to be a mega-carrier with a global reach, where the aeronautical industries place special emphasis on the evolution of the fleets and updates, since they mark the direction of global demand.

Many larger airlines tend to have a block of mixed fleets and with antiques that are around twenty years old. In the case of Delta Air Lines, it was characterized by continuing to fly a considerable number of McDonnell Douglas DC-9/MD-80/MD-90, while at the same time updating the fleet with A320/A321, breaking the US monopoly.

Delta currently has Airbus A220s (95) on order, which will replace the Boeing 717s (53). Furthermore, Delta retired all of its MD-80s, leading to a significant reduction in its operational capabilities.

It has Airbus A321s (127) in its fleet, which are on average around three years old, and the airline also has Airbus A321NEO/XLRs (155) on order; these will replace the 127 Boeing 757s. Delta has a total of one hundred and fourteen A319-100CEOs and A320-200CEOs (114), which have an average of more than twenty years of service, so they will need to be replaced at some point. Delta has Boeing 737-800 (77) in its fleet, in addition to Boeing 737-900ER (159), which are on average more than ten years old.

Major narrowbodies line challenge

Delta Air Lines will surprise the world with the addition of the Boeing 737-10 MAX, instead of smaller variants. That is why it puts the competitiveness of the manufacturers Boeing and Airbus at the top for the struggle for dominance in the most developed and competitive aviation sector, the high-density mid-range. This is where the Boeing 737-10 MAX and the Airbus A321NEO/XLR compete. Delta wants most of its narrow-body fleet to be with aircraft of about 200 seats to meet an upcoming strong demand in the post-pandemic region.

The alleged delay in placing orders on an aircraft known to Delta Air Lines could be due to the price offered by the manufacturer. Now that the market situation has changed for The Boeing Company, it feels the need to recover lost market with the 737 MAX against its competitor that continues to dominate with the best-seller A321NEO and its next version A321XLR.

It is known for the position of Delta Air Lines and Ireland’s Ryanair who always look for favorable deals when it comes to buying aircraft. Negotiations usually take time to materialize. In the fall of 2021 it was announced that negotiations between the two companies had been called off, as they were unable to reach an agreement. As Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary described it: «We are disappointed that we were unable to reach an agreement with Boeing on a MAX 10 order. However, Boeing has a more optimistic outlook on aircraft prices than we do, and we have a disciplined history of not paying high prices for aircraft». Delta Air Lines has not benefited from a lack of agreement that has caused the delay with the order, but the problems arising from the 737 MAX line have bought time to restructure the airline’s fleet. Boeing’s position in the face of a real need for new agreements, bearing in mind the great crisis of the 787, 737 MAX lines, that does not seem to be the compelling case for seeking new customers. It serves as a sample button the case of Ryanair which has not yet reached a formal agreement, when then one might wonder why Delta Air Lines could develop a successful purchase agreement, although we could discount that the Atlanta-based airline could have an advantage significant in the Ryanair deal: Boeing knows that Delta would gladly order an Airbus order, and for that matter the airline has ordered a large number of A321NEOs. Ryanair exclusively operates the Boeing 737 line, and it’s about fleet similarity that Boeing probably thinks Ryanair wouldn’t even consider buying Airbus planes, even though CEO Michael O’Leary has repeatedly «threatened» to change the philosophy of its fleet, but this would entail higher costs for the leading budget airline in Europe, a point that the low cost is not willing to give up market sacrificing operating costs. Although Ryanair recently called off discussions to buy the 737 MAX, it may look for an opportunity later to resume negotiations with the American builder.

Delta perspectives

Delta Air Lines and The Boeing Company are close to a formal agreement for a 737 MAX mega-order, where they are typically advertised at the world’s largest air shows. Farnborough 2022 could be selected for the big announcement to introduce MAX to one of the world’s largest airlines.
