Kuwait Airways restructures order

Kuwait Airways places order for 31 planes in US$ 6 billion deal

AW-Kuwait Airways__Isologotype__002

Kuwait Airways announced on Monday 02/21 an expanded agreement of US$ 6,000 million Dollars with Airbus Group for thirty-one (31) aircraft, restructuring an agreement reached in 2014. The agreement comes after what the airline described as negotiations occasionally heated after investigations into bribery allegations surrounding the initial warrant. The negotiations took place against the backdrop of bribery allegations that cost Airbus Group billions of dollars in settlement fees abroad in 2020. «We have managed to agree on a monumental restructuring that will position Kuwait Airways in a much stronger place.» to be successful for the next fifteen years», company Chairman Ali Al-Dukhan told a news conference.

The new agreement, which adds three new aircraft to the existing order of 28 initial units, includes nine Airbus A320NEO (9), six A321NEO (6), three A321NEO LR (3), four A330-800NEO (4), seven A330-900NEO (7) and two A350-900 (2). Ali Al-Dukhan said the reformed deal, intended to give the airline more flexibility after the travel industry was rocked by the coronavirus pandemic, was now worth a total of around US$ 6bn. «Although corrections were made in 2018, the agreement needed further corrections to fit the future of Kuwait Airways, especially with the need to transition and be more flexible in a post-Covid aviation industry», said the CEO of Kuwait Airways.

Record profits

«When we started the negotiations, we knew we were already the losers, as 40 percent of the value of the deal had already been paid and delivery had started. We entered four months of serious and professional negotiations, which got heated at times, but we always maintained respect and understanding of each other’s wants and needs», Al-Dukhan said.

Kuwait Airways had initially ordered fifteen Airbus A320NEOs (15) and ten A350s (10) in 2014, with delivery starting in 2019. In February 2020, the Parliament of the Republic of Kuwait opened an investigation panel to investigate allegations of bribery , after Airbus paid huge fines to settle bribery cases in French, British and American courts. Under the settlement, Airbus agreed to pay €3.6bn/US$4.1bn in fines to resolve corruption investigations into some of its aircraft sales.

Last week, the European giant announced record profits of €4.2bn/US$ 4.8bn in 2021, after two consecutive years of losses during the pandemic. Aircraft deliveries rose eight percent to 611 planes, Airbus said in an earnings release.

Ultra Air launches commercial operations in Colombia

The new Colombian airline Ultra Air becomes the newest air operator in Latin America, introducing Airbus Group a new customer in the aircraft market. It has a fleet of five A320CEOs (5) for operations on domestic routes throughout the country and has plans to expand its A320 fleet to open new routes in the coming years. The airline also selected NAVBLUE, an Airbus Services company, to support its entry into service with a variety of innovative solutions that support flight operations, planning, control, analysis, optimization and risk management of the airline. airline.

The CEO of Ultra Air, Willliam Shaw has expressed: «After several months of work, we are proud to tell Colombia that Ultra Air is its new airline. We are here and we are here to stimulate the market, generate employment, democratize commercial air transport and add value to the tourism chain. Our goal is to mobilize more than 2.5 million passengers in the first year of operations. And I say this with pride because when we had the idea of creating a new low-cost airline in the country, many were amazed by the moment and the context. Months ago the pandemic had confined us to fear and uncertainty, affecting the aeronautical sector like never before in history, leaving thousands of parked planes and airline figures in the red. Hopeful and confident in the prompt recovery of the sector, we began to spread wings against all odds. And we were fortunate to do so with winds in our favor. First, we managed to gather a group of investors tas who believed in our project from the very beginning; We were lucky to be able to choose and purchase the best type of aircraft for our business model at very competitive prices. When we received the permit from the Civil Aeronautics we identified that the times and conditions were perfectly adjusted to apply for the Megainversiones regime created by the Social Investment Law promoted by the Colombian Government in order to reactivate the economy; This is how we became the first company in the aeronautical sector to obtain this certification. After successfully completing the first four phases, we obtained the Air Operator Certificate under the most recent edition of the aeronautical regulation, RAC 121, which stipulates stricter requirements, in accordance with the provisions of the Regional System of Cooperation for the Surveillance of the Operational Security, including additional verifications in aspects of special operations, fatigue management, attention to victims and ground security. It was a very enriching process that tested the skills of our technicians and professionals and strengthened us as a team. We became the ninth regular passenger operator, providing greater connectivity possibilities, strengthening the market and the competitiveness of national air transport and contributing to the reactivation process of the sector that in 2021 managed to mobilize more than 30 million passengers, ranking as one of the the most competitive markets in the region and with the best recovery trend. We arrived in the country so that more people can fly to their destination. We have our chairs ready for those who travel by plane for the first time, for families who long to see the sea, for entrepreneurs who have their first business appointment, for friends who want to enjoy a concert or a weekend at the beach. . We are an airline grown in love for friendship as an invaluable axis of our existence. We have every provision for each of our users to feel that when flying with Ultra Air they are flying with a friend».

Currently, Airbus Group has sold more than 1,100 aircraft in Latin America and the Caribbean and has an order book of more than 500 units, with more than 700 aircraft in operation throughout the region, which represents almost 60% of the market share of the fleet in service. Since 1994, Airbus has secured approximately 70% of net orders in the region.

Reclamaciones tarifarias

AW-Flybondi_7170

The CEO of Flybondi, Mauricio Sana, sent a letter to the national government regarding Decree 879/2021, which imposes an unexpected radical change in the rules of the game in the domestic aviation market. The main point of the measure is the reestablishment of the fare bands for domestic flights. The airline denounces that the main objective of the Government is to favor two state companies: Aerolineas Argentinas and Intercargo, a provider of ramp services. The main points that according to the company «change most of the business conditions of the airline industry, in addition to limiting and restricting the growth of the commercial aviation market in the provinces and, above all, threaten the freedom and right to fly of all those of us who inhabit Argentine soil».

The new commercial legal framework will develop practices of anti-competitive conduct, limiting the possibility of offering rates generated from efficient processes; It directly attacks the access of Argentines to air transport services; It harms the airline industry, companies and passengers through the imposition of a fare band; its ultimate goal is for the operator that today has a monopoly position to dominate the international market and regulate the domestic market; It directly attacks the commercial airline market and its passengers, eliminating the development of supply and limiting access to competitive prices, harming the transport and tourism value chain. From the Argentine Government, the main promoters of the decree Juan Manzur, Chief of Staff, Alexis Guerrera, Minister of Transport, have given an explanation about the change in direction of airfare policies that will be increased, harming the user of air transport.

Breeze Airways abrirá base Hartford

AW | 2022 02 19 13:39 | AIRLINES / AIRLINES ROUTES

Breeze inaugurará nueva base Aeropuerto Bradley-Hartford/BDL

Breeze Airways_Isologotype

Breeze Airways to open Hartford base

Breeze will inaugurate new base Bradley-Hartford Airport/BDL

Breeze_E195

The airline Breeze Airways announced on Thursday 02/17 that it would open a new base at the Bradley-Hartford/BDL Airport, Windsor Locks, State of Connecticut (CT). the new base will include eight yet-to-be-announced destinations in addition to the four that Breeze currently flies from there. The airline’s new base comes a day after Avelo Airlines announced it was launching service to four new destinations from its base at Tweed-New Haven/HVN Airport, where it is now selling tickets on ten nonstop routes.

Bradley is located 56 miles north of Tweed-New Haven by road. The airports are connected by Interstate 91, a key transportation corridor through an area relatively densely populated with residents who would find both airports convenient. Therefore, Breeze’s move can be seen as competitive with Avelo Airlines.

Breeze Airways has served Bradley since its first day of operations in May 2021, and currently serves four destinations from the airport: Charleston (CHS), South Carolina, Columbus (CMH), Ohio, Norfolk (ORF), Virginia and Pittsburgh (PIT), Pennsylvania. Its new Airbus A220 will serve Bradley’s current four routes starting in June 2022. The Utah-based airline said it would announce its eight new destinations from Hartford/BDL in early March 2022.

Avelo Airlines announced on Wednesday 02/16 that it will serve Charleston/CHS from its base in Connecticut. It currently serves six Florida cities and, in addition to Charleston, will soon add Myrtle Beach/MYR, South Carolina, Savannah/SAV, Georgia and Nashville/BNA, Tennessee.

CEO and founder David Neeleman has allowed further connections to develop from his new home base of Bradley-Hartford/BDL: «As a long-time resident of Connecticut, it is personally very exciting for me to announce today with Governor [Ned] Lamont that Hartford Bradley International Airport is becoming Breeze’s fifth base of operations». Breeze’s move will create more than 200 jobs, awarding it a nearly US$ 1.3 million grant from the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development that is contingent on the airline creating and retaining 212 full-time jobs. Currently serving Bradley-Hartford/BDL Airport are American Airlines, Breeze Airways, Delta Air Lines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and United Airlines. Avelo is the only carrier in Tweed-New Haven that is undergoing a terminal expansion project. The airport was previously served by American, which suspended service there during the pandemic.
