Arkia Airlines_Isologotype

The synergy of both airlines would allow them to benefit from a classic and leisure model, in addition to the acquisition of the three-year-old Airbus A321LR narrowbodies that Arkia introduced. El Al Airlines would also inherit three Embraer E195s (3), two A330-900NEOs (2) on order, with options for an additional two. Aerolíneas Argentinas presentó resultados 2021

AW-Aerolíneas_73770008

Aerolíneas Argentinas held a press conference at Jorge Newbery Airport/AEP (Aeroparque) facilities to announce the results of 2021 to date. Those in charge of the presentation were Carlos Figueroa, Director of Communication and Institutional Relations, together with Fabian Lombardo. Commercial Director, Planning and Route Management of Aerolíneas Argentinas. The airline has continued to work during these two years on the reactivation of destinations, the inauguration of new routes and promotion strategies to accompany the great success that the Pre-Trip meant for all tourist destinations in Argentina.

AW-Aerolíneas_737NG_0033

2021 began with a very good quarter, in which more than one million passengers were transported. Then a slight drop is noted in the month of May, which closes with 18% of passengers. The comparison was made with the pre-pandemic months of 2019. These fluctuations and declines respond to the appearance of the second wave of Covid and the measures and restrictions, which were complied with under the established health protocols that also included flight quotas.

Before July 2021 the situation begins to improve with the upturn in the season and in December it ends with 87%. transporting 4,436,000 passengers in domestic traffic, which represents 44% compared to 10 million in the same pre-pandemic month. Traffic had a very different behavior compared to 2019 since the corporate segment decreased (in 2019 the best-selling corporate destination was Córdoba), and the most visited destinations in 2021 were: Bariloche, Ushuaia, Mendoza, Córdoba, Salta, Calafate, Iguazú and Tucumán. Regarding international traffic, 491,000 passengers were transferred, in which vaccine tourism to Miami stood out, between April and October 2019, a low percentage, compared to 2019 where 3,300,000 were transported.

Starting from 2022 to January 31, 30,000 passengers were transported daily and in 2021 there were 22,000. With regard to 2022, between January 1 and 31, 870,000 total passengers have been transported and by Sunday, February 6, a million passengers have been transported since the beginning of the year. This increase generates good prospects for the months of February and March to come. The most chosen destinations since the beginning of this season were almost the same as in the previous year, with the addition of Mar del Plata: Bariloche, Ushuaia, Calafate, Córdoba, Mendoza, Iguazú, Salta, Mar del Plata, Tucumán and Neuquén. There were southern destinations such as Esquel, which has been consolidating little by little, and also Northern Argentina. The most tourist destinations are beginning to be much more sold than they were before the pandemic. As an international destination in January, Brazil is already beginning to appear with more flights sold to São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, and the receptive market begins to flow little by little from Rio de Janeiro, Santiago de Chile and Punta del Este, the latter with fewer flights.

They will end February with 190 daily operations and in May they already foresee 210 daily operations due to the advance purchases that passengers have made through the Pre-Trip. Regarding the domestic market, they currently have 18,000 daily reservations. All provinces have no less than six weekly flights. The percentage of seat occupancy is higher than in 2019, there are 85% of seats occupied and they estimate that in the second quarter of the year they would be reaching pre-pandemic levels. All the results depend on how the regression of the pandemic evolves, regarding the closure of borders and measures that are being taken, but they assure that they are working hard. for the reactivation of the receptive.

Other actions that they carried out and added potential were the charter flights and the reaccommodation of passengers on student trips that were rescheduled due to the cancellations, and the special flights to meet the demand of cruise passengers who came from the United States to take cruises to the south. 32 Inter sections have been resumed, nine destinations were restarted and five new destinations were incorporated next to the Córdoba HUB, already reconnecting it with 18 more cities.

Aerolíneas Argentinas works on a prudent scheduling strategy, adapting it to the reservations that are coming in, and being very careful, always seeking to meet demand and that all destinations are served.

Aerolíneas outlook

In April 2022 they will inaugurate and resume the following routes: Córdoba—Comodoro Rivadavia, Córdoba—Posadas, Mar del Plata—Córdoba, Mendoza—Mar del Plata, Bariloche—Salta (2Frq/S), Buenos Aires—Brasilia, Buenos Aires—Porto Alegre (4Frq/S). Buenos Aires—Curitiba (4Frq/S). The company has been looking into flying to some Middle Eastern countries.

As of July 3, 2022, the Atlantic corridor is resumed with the Mar del Plata—Bahía Blanca—Trelew-Comodoro Rivadavia route with three weekly frequencies (3Frq/S). The Commercial Chief of the Trelew Branch of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Fernando Hernández, confirmed this Friday 02/04 to the mayor, Adrián Maderna, the restitution of the air route called “Atlantic Corridor”. It has been inactive since the beginning of the pandemic and it was confirmed that it will return from the next 07/03.

AW-Itapemirim__Isologotype_Banner

Itapemirim new funds would give continuity

Capital funds advanced talks to acquire ITA

ITA Linhas Aéreas_Isologotype_Back ground blank

Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos (ITA) could resume commercial operations with new partners and a new corporate name. A private capital fund would be in advanced talks for the acquisition of the Brazilian airline.

Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos had started operations in July 2021, after only six months flying through Brazil, the Itapemirim Group’s attempt to return to the area of commercial aviation had failed. Itapemirim Transportes Aéreos may change ownership in the coming days. Two private equity funds would be in the advanced stages of the talks for the purchase of the airline, which has been out of operation since December 17, 2021.

To access the share package, the Justice has established that a requirement as a condition of the agreement is the dismissal of the current President of the group, Sidnei Piva. The investors would assume the debts of the company, valued at around R$ 180 million reais, and would implement a new business plan that is more agile and realistic than that of the current administration.

The company, which operated for almost six months, planned to fly to thirty-five destinations by the end of the first half of this year and have a fleet of approximately fifty aircraft by 2023. The Itapemirim group is still in judicial recovery and runs the risk of being declared bankrupt, after the prosecution filed a request with the Justice at the beginning of January 2022. If the agreement prospers, the airline can return with a new name and management to the skies of Brazil.

Debt with Rio/Galeão

One document lists Itapemirim’s multi-million dollar debt to Rio/Galeão Airport. The collection of delayed boarding fees is a serious situation, because although the airline collects it from the passengers, it should never count the amount as income, being money to redirect to the payment of the airport fee. Failure to transfer this rate can easily be framed as a crime of misappropriation, according to Article 168 of the Brazilian Penal Code. The amounts due include the costs accrued by the airline between August and December 2021.

Novos fundos dariam continuidade Itapemirim

El año pasado representaron US$ 682 millones y el anterior, US$ 600 millones.

Aerolíneas expects to reduce deficit

They plan to increase income and reduce the level of subsidies

Aerolíneas Argentinas_Isotype_Skyblue_002

The Commercial, Planning and Route Management Director of the Aerolíneas Argentinas, Fabián Lombardo, has communicated that in January 2022 it has reached 88% of the pre-pandemic passengers in cabotage and that in April 2022 they will add three flights to different destinations in Brazil, encouraging the regional tourism.

The Commercial Director has reported that the company’s collection should improve, with a downward impact on the level of subsidies granted by the Argentine State. In any case, there are variables such as fuel prices and inflation rates that cannot establish a parameter as to how much the financial results will improve. The cost of subsidizing the flag carrier has remained high over the decades, even having had reduced activity during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020. “With normal programming the level of subsidies should come down. Last year they represented US$ 682 million and the previous year, US$ 600 million. What I am saying is that the collection of the company, which is at 30 or 40%, should improve and that should improve the subsidies. Then there are external variables that we do not manage, such as the cost of fuel, which increased by 90% in one year. Revenues are going to increase quite a bit. What we are going to do is work on productivity, improve efficiency and invoice more”, stated the Commercial Director at a press conference at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery.

Commercial data

AW-700338

During the presentation, Fabián Lombardo said that the company transported 718,402 cabotage passengers last January, which represents 88% of the pre-covid number. Meanwhile, international passengers amounted to 152,517, 48% of those who mobilized in 2020. If both groups of passengers are added, it gives a total of 870,919, 77% compared to two years ago. The best-selling national destination in January was Bariloche (136% more than pre-pandemic), followed by Ushuaia (108%), El Calafate (118%), Córdoba (57%), Mendoza (104%), Puerto Iguazú ( 72%), Salta (79%), Mar del Plata (75%), Tucumán (80%) and Neuquén (64%). Meanwhile, the best-selling international destination was São Paulo (88% vs. pre-covid), followed by Rio de Janeiro (40%), Miami (60%), Santiago de Chile (54%), Punta del Este (54 %), Madrid (41%), Florianópolis (41%), Cancún (53%), Asunción-Buenos Aires (73%); and Buenos Aires-Lima (70%).

«The trend in cabotage is to exceed pre-pandemic levels in the second quarter of this year, while in international shipping the recovery would come in the first quarter of 2023», Lombardo anticipated. As for the flight offer, the domestic network is already at 86% pre-covid and the international one, at 39%. “The company has two focuses, which are the connectivity of the country and the development of the receptive market. In this sense, from the week that begins on April 4, we will have four weekly frequencies with Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Brasilia. Today the industry is at 50% in general and there is a lack of product. These cities have no international exit and are passengers who come. At Fitur 2022 we also saw that there was an important opportunity to bring European tourists to South America and, taking advantage of the fact that we had new frequencies, we authorized all agencies that did not work in Argentina to come with special rates to get to know destinations and promote them”, said the manager.

Reestablishing connections

Aerolíneas Argentinas has announced the return of regional flights to three destinations in Brazil that are suspended, with the aim of promoting receptive tourism, which has not yet recovered. As announced a few days ago, starting in April 2022, it will have direct flights to Porto Alegre, Curitiba and Brasilia from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery/AEP, with four weekly frequencies (4Frq/S). The airline had suspended flights to Porto Alegre and Curitiba since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, while the route connecting Buenos Aires with Brasilia was suspended four years ago. The return of the frequencies is established around the new strategy that the company will apply to reactivate receptive tourism. The current demand for international travel represents 45% of the volume that the airline registered in the pre-pandemic. «We have two main focuses of work: expanding domestic connectivity and bringing tourists from abroad. We are going to continue working to meet these objectives. The announced routes that connect Argentina with Brazil encourage receptive tourism. We will offer adequate rates that are attractive», highlighted Fabián Lombardo. Aerolíneas Argentinas will also resume daily flights between Buenos Aires and Madrid in April 2022. The airline stopped flying once a week between both destinations with the outbreak of the global health crisis.

The Argentine airline is optimistic about the future, although it is aware that the recovery in the international framework will not be immediate. However, he estimates that it will rebound, as the restrictions in force in different countries ease.

Cabotage, optimal level

AW-Aerolíneas Argentinas_E190-0001

Regarding the national scenario, Aerolíneas Argentinas currently transports 88% of the load factor of the traffic it carried before Covid-19 and expects to reach 93% in March 2022. «In the second quarter [2022], we expect to reach 100% of the volume of the pre-pandemic. In January we transferred 720,000 passengers to domestic destinations, out of a total of 860,000 people who traveled on our flights», said Fabián Lombardo.

Pre-Trip

The executive of the Commercial area highlighted the relevance of the Pre-Trip program, which has already been used by 4.5 million Argentines: «Generally, reservations at the local level are made one month before the date of the trip. With this stimulus plan, They were more than three months early». The most chosen national destinations were Bariloche (Río Negro), Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego), Calafate (Santa Cruz), Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta, Iguazú (Misiones), Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires province) and Tucumán.

The airline does not have its own fleet, but has reached an agreement with American Jet to carry out operations with Embraer E145 aircraft with a capacity for 50 passengers through a service contracting agreement that represents a total of 47 non-scheduled flights. The value of air tickets will allow it to be competitive in an emerging market dominated by Aerolineas Argentinas. The price per section is AR$ 14,500. The new regional airline pursues a social interest to connect the Province of La Rioja with different points in Argentina. «We are not interested in financial income, we are interested in social income, that is, that people can access a service that is very limited today», said the provincial Governor. Currently, the Province of La Rioja is served only by Aerolineas Argentinas with six weekly frequencies, but it does not have any market alternative, so it is subject to a price monopoly.

American nueva orden 30 737 MAX

AW | 2022 02 02 16:00 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

American Airlines recently announced a new deal for a new order for thirty Boeing 737-8 MAXs amid delays in deliveries of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner line of aircraft following Boeing production delays. The Fort Worth (TX)-based airline is ordering 30 new 737 MAX narrowbodies as part of its strong recovery strategies for domestic travel. American Airlines announced the orders for the 172-seat aircraft this Wednesday 02/02, while announcing the delay in the delivery of an undisclosed number of Boeing 787-9 aircraft that have been delayed due to production problems in the Dreamliner line.

American Airlines currently has orders for 57 737 MAX aircraft through 2025, making a commitment to the aircraft that airline leaders have bragged about in terms of fuel efficiency and cost savings. American is scheduled to get fifteen (15) 737-8 MAXs by 2023 and the other fifteen (15) in 2024, according to regulatory filings. The agreement includes twenty-three (23) new purchase commitments from American and the exercise of options on seven (7) additional aircraft. That should match projections of a full recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic in terms of passenger counts, a recovery that has included a strong rebound in leisure travelers flying within the United States, where airlines are most used. 737 MAX aircraft. This new order is the first aircraft commitment for the airline since ordering fifty (50) Airbus A321 aircraft in 2019.

American Airlines has in its current fleet forty-five Boeing 737-8 MAX (45) in its operational fleet. The planes are 15% to 20% more fuel efficient than the previous generation of Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft, allowing for lower noise ratings while being much quieter than the 737NG.

American Airlines announced the deals for Boeing 737 MAX planes at the same time it cited delays in the delivery of 787 Dreamliner planes, although it is unclear whether The Boeing Company gave American a deal on 737 MAX planes in exchange for accepting delays. of production on the 787 Dreamliner line. American Airlines leaders said last month that Boeing is paying penalties for delays on nineteen (19) of the twin-aisle Boeing 787 jets that were supposed to be delivered in 2021. American relies on the planes, which carry 234 to 285 passengers, to fly long-haul to South America, Europe and Asia, along with domestic routes throughout the country. «We anticipate that with the 787, we will be a materially smaller international airline than we would like to be», American Airlines Chief Revenue Officer Vasu Raja said in January 2022 during the company’s fourth-quarter (4Q2021) earnings call. company.

SAS Link base en Bergen

AW | 2022 02 02 14:47 | AIRLINES / AIRLINES ROUTES

Esos años no volverán.

SAS Subsidiary to Open Base in Bergen, Norway

SAS_Isologotype_Banner

SAS Link, one of two Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) short-haul subsidiaries to launch this year, will establish a base in Bergen (BGO), Norway, this summer. The move is part of the airline’s post-pandemic strategy to strengthen its short-haul network. SAS Link will operate Embraer E195-E2 from Bergen Airport/BGO. The operator has not detailed the number of Embraer E195-E2 units that will be based at Bergen/BGO, saying the number will depend on demand.

The changes introduced by SAS Airlines are due to the changing markets due to the global health crisis. Star Alliance member SAS Airlines, which has traditionally focused on long-haul commercial traffic, will launch SAS Link and SAS Connect this year, both to have a main base at Copenhagen/CPH Airport. Stockholm/ARN-based SAS Airlines has said the two subsidiary airlines are needed because smaller, lower-cost planes are better suited to operating many of the short-haul routes it now flies with larger planes. «When customers are changing, you have to change with them. You can’t expect everything to go back to 2019, 2018 or 2017. Those years won’t come back. It’s pretty clear to me», said SAS CEO Anko van der Werff. He explained that, after the pandemic, SAS expects fewer business travelers, more leisure passengers, and more competition on many routes.

With the Bergen/BGO base, SAS Airlines hopes to provide increased service to Norway’s second largest city. «Aviation worldwide has been among the hardest hit industries since the beginning of the crisis. The opening of the SAS Link base in Bergen is part of our strategy to create a strong and competitive SAS», said Kjetil Håbjørg, Head of SAS’s Norwegian operations, in a statement. SAS said it will continually assess demand in Norway and is open to setting up more bases in the country.

Boeing 737 MAX returns to the skies

Ethiopian Airlines, the largest aviation group in Africa, flew its Boeing 737 MAX aircraft again this Tuesday 01/02 after a tragic plane crash in March 2019. «Ethiopian Airlines has returned its Boeing 737-8 MAX to the skies today with the president and executives of the airline’s board of directors, Boeing executives, ministers, ambassadors, government officials, journalists and customers on board the first flight», the group said in a press release. «Safety is the highest priority at Ethiopian Airlines and guides every decision we make and every action we take», said Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Group.

On March 10, 2019, Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 crashed shortly after leaving Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, killing all 157 people on board. The incident prompted Ethiopia’s flag carrier, along with many other airlines around the world, to ground Boeing 737 MAX planes.

Aerolíneas purga política

AW | 2022 02 02 12:44 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Fired pilots for political non-alignment

Aerolíneas Argentinas is a company politically influenced by the La Cámpora Group that governs several companies managed by the Argentine State. Once again it has transpired that the bids for leadership and the submission of personnel are affected by identity and political thought. The General Secretary of APLA, Pablo Biró, has initiated this week a purge with the dismissal of pilots who do not coincide with the political and union guidelines and thoughts, carrying out dismissals without cause of two approved pilots with the consent of the CEO of the company, Pablo Ceriani.

APLA, political confrontation history

AW-Flybondi_702 (2)

The Secretary of the association that brings together the pilots of Aerolineas Argentinas has continued to establish an aggressive campaign against the head of the ANAC, Paola Tamburelli, whom he even accused «of not assuming her responsibilities and lack of decorum», while in the field aeronautical many look the other way. Weeks ago, the LADE-Flybondi agreement has reactivated the confrontations from different angles. A note signed by the four aeronautical unions APLA, APA, UPSA and Atepsa, agreed to oppose the wet lease agreement between Flybondi Líneas Aéreas and LADE Líneas Aéreas. The union secretary of APLA addressed a personal note to the Minister of Defense accusing him of «having disappointed him» for having allowed the agreement between the two airlines, describing the fact as «a notorious violation of the constitutive obligations of LADE, which under no circumstances can carry out aero-commercial activity since its promotion purpose excludes it”. The personal accusation has opened the umbrella in the political sector of the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Tourism, as well as the Air Force/LADE, Aerolineas Argentinas, among others who clearly expressed approval of the LADE-Flybondi operation, by the reason that the low cost airline had been affected by the number of infections of its crew at the beginning of the summer season and needed to carry out the scheduled flights.

Operations

After a series of pressures from the APLA Pilots Union, the eye of the storm continues to focus on the Operations Area, making known among backstage the existence of a list of impure pilots, which increases the rumor of more dismissals.

A new dismissal this week was the Commander of Aerolíneas Argentinas Sebastián Fabre, who in July 2018 refused to read a «union proclamation» to passengers in mid-flight, which was later publicly threatened by a member of the APLA Board of Directors, the then Guild Delegate Santiago Girou. Commander Sebastián Fabre sued the Delegate for tightening, obtaining a favorable ruling before the Justice. These situations of unjustified dismissals put in evidence and on alert the area of pilots in Aerolíneas Argentinas.

UALA, end of a guild

AW-Austral-E190100AR-UALA

The union pressures coincide with the call of the APLA Guild for this Tuesday, February 8, 2022, to the call for a General Assembly of affiliates from all sectors at the headquarters of the Union of Airline Aviators (UALA), a union that brought together the pilots of Austral Líneas Aéreas, for the completion of the absorption of UALA by APLA. The recent dismissal without cause of the Commander of the Embraer 190 fleet, Eduardo Claro, last Director of the Participated Property Program (PPP) of Austral Líneas Aéreas, which he represented as a shareholder, for opposing the Aerolíneas-Austral merger and questioning the management of the fleet unified, the group could run into difficulties with aircraft availability. Currently, out of 76 aircraft, seventeen remain out of service, which represents one (1) aircraft on the ground out of eight Boeing 737-700 (8), seven (7) out of twenty-nine Boeing 737-800 (29) and eight (8) over twenty-six Embraer E190-100AR (26), one (1) of eight Airbus A330-200 (8), while the entire fleet of five Boeing 737-8 MAX (5) are operational. Although the situation of the current health crisis is addressed, it is understandable that the demand does not justify the activation of the entire fleet.

State subsidies

The advance payments of subsidies by the Argentine State that are approaching are going to generate more discomfort in the entire opposition political arena. The items of millions of Pesos (AR$) in subsidies that the company is estimated to require this year 2022 will generate a new turning point in the treatment in the National Congress, a historical issue that many claim to put an end to a broken bag.
