Stabilization in Aerolíneas mid 2022

The President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Pablo Ceriani, affirmed this Monday 04/10 that he estimates that «by the middle of next year» domestic flights from Argentina will once again be at a level similar to those of the pre-pandemic and said that on the line managers and employees are working hard, jointly, managers and employees, to achieve the best possible performance in the current circumstances to arrive towards full normality by mid-2022. While participating in the US city of Boston in the 77th edition of the General Assembly Annual and World Summit of the International Air Transport Association.

Boeing 737-8 MAX R12

«We are concentrating all the offer on domestic flights, which used to be shared with Internationals, today we are concentrating on cabotage because international markets, although they are recovering, have a slower pace, not only due to the situation in Argentina but also Also to that of many other countries that still maintain entry restrictions. Both supply and demand are growing very evenly, because since they cannot go to other countries, they prefer to travel within the country, such as destinations in the south. Mendoza, Iguazú. They are characteristic places of tourism in Argentina, to which people are choosing to travel due to the difficulties of going abroad. We are putting a lot of offers and although for December we always have a bottleneck, we believe that we will be able to perfectly cope with the demand and satisfy it», expressed the CEO of Aerolíneas.

On the other hand, Pablo Ceriani highlighted the willingness of the unions to understand the situation and accompany us in this instance. Although he acknowledged that there is a delay in the purchasing power of the employees, they are in full parity and negotiating so that wages are not so behind.

The recovery of the activity presents two scenarios, domestic and international flights. In the first, they consider that for the next northern winter season the sector is fully recovered. In the international sector, due to the impacts of the pandemic, the recovery will be slower, gradually depending on the factors of vaccination and immunity of the populations.

The company aims to maintain the current fleet of 78 aircraft: Airbus 330-200 (10), 26 Embraer E190-100AR (26) and Boeing 737-NG/MAX (42), while decommissioning two A330-200 (2) to re-purchase the same number of replacement aircraft. Despite the global parate of air traffic, Pablo Ceriani expressed: «In these moments of crisis, where at times there were no operations and keeping the planes on the ground had a very high cost, we were able to face it and today we are putting the entire fleet in motion again».

Economic situation

In 2020 the losses of Aerolíneas Argentinas were around US$ 700 million, but this year it will be US$ 100 million less, with a loss very similar to the 2019 figures. Despite the impact of the pandemic Pablo Ceriani has I commended the efforts of all the workers who did their best to achieve the objectives, at a particularly dramatic moment, where the risks to be infected were fully in force, which has shown pride in everything they have achieved. Income in 2019 was US$ 1.7 billion, in 2020 it dropped to US$ 500 million and this year 2021 it would reach US$ 600 million. The same is lost, but with less than half of the operations. Income falls a lot, but expenses also fall because it is not operating.

Perspectives Aerolíneas

Aerolíneas Argentinas hopes to grow and recover markets that were lost, but the situation of the pandemic has forced to reformulate the future. Now what we need is to recover the passengers we had and from there begin to grow. In addition, they are evaluating the possibility of entering the cargo market, taking advantage of the experience left by trips to China, Moscow, the United States and Spain, although they warned that the prices of cargo that are on the market today are not real. , because they are very high. «When operations return to normal, we estimate that current costs will drop and there we will see if it is competitive, but it is something that we are analyzing and a future possibility that we do not rule out», commented Pablo Ceriani.

From the merger of the Aerolíneas-Austral companies, they are setting up three maintenance lines that will give the possibility of meeting the requirements of the entire fleet, achieving the achievement after the synergy of the two airlines.

The scheduling of flights to the East, may be encouraged to continue extending the Argentina-China route for the transport of vaccines: «There was a situation in which, due to an apparent third wave, the Chinese stopped offering assistance to the flights. charter. Not so with regular flights, so the last vaccines were coming from companies that have regular flights to Beijing. But the next ones we will surely do again. For us it is important to show the strategic importance of an airline of flag, to have a public service, such as commercial air transport. In fact, the commercial air system was sustained in the world, in a lot of countries, by the amount of money that was put in, which ten or twenty times more than that Argentina put, because it is strategic», concluded Pablo Ceriani.

Lufthansa incorporará A350 adicionales

Lufthansa añade a su flota cuatro nuevos Airbus A350-900

AW-Lufthansa_Isologotype

Lufthansa to add additional A350s

Lufthansa adds four new Airbus A350-900 to its fleet

Lufthansa German Airlines announced this Sunday 10/03 that it agreed to lease four new long-haul Airbus A350-900 passenger jets, taking on newer jets left homeless as airlines restructure their balance sheets amid the Coronavirus crisis. The jets are currently available at low lease rates as airlines review their portfolios, industry sources say. Executive Chairman Carsten Spohr announced the move by the German-flagged carrier on the sidelines of an airline conference dominated by debate over emissions and heavy industry losses due to the pandemic. «Fleet modernization, in my opinion, is a pillar in meeting sustainability challenges», Carsten Spohr told reporters on the sidelines of an IATA airline group meeting.

The planes had originally been destined for Philippine Airlines, which has been restructuring its fleet, and the A350-900s will be available early next year 2022, a person familiar with the deal said. Its arrival will speed up the replacement of the less fuel-efficient Airbus A340-600 and Boeing 747-400 jets, Lufthansa said, with 30% fewer emissions per plane.

Lufthansa said the four new aircraft will bring its A350 fleet to a total of twenty-one aircraft. Carsten Spohr also said he was concerned that a slow reopening of borders in China amid tight travel restrictions due to the coronavirus was hurting the German airline’s recovery. «We are not only slowing down our recovery at Lufthansa, which is also my concern, but we are slowing down the recovery of economic relations between China and Germany», he said of the Lufthansa CEO.

QANTAS estudia reemplazo aviones

AW | 2021 10 03 20:18 | AIRLINES

Qantas analiza reemplazar aviones pequeño porte

AW-QantasLimk_Boeing 717-20001

Qantas_Isologotype

QANTAS studies aircraft replacement

Qantas discusses replacing small aircraft

Qantas Airways is in talks with several aircraft manufacturers about plans to renew its main fleets of narrow-body and regional aircraft and is expected to formalize negotiations with a tender announcement within days, industry sources said. The Australian airline is studying the Airbus A220 and Embraer E2 to replace a regional fleet of Boeing 717 (20) and Fokker 100 (18). Even the Australian airline is studying the Boeing 737-7 MAX, the smallest member of its best-selling single-aisle family, as an option. In the busiest part of the market, Airbus and Boeing are competing to win the tug-of-war.

Qantas seeks to replace the older Boeing 737-800s, which are approximately twenty years old. The combined moves could lead to tiered purchases of up to 100 jets, including options, the sources said.

Qantas Airways Chief Executive Alan Joyce declined to comment before a virtual press conference scheduled for Monday 04/10. Aircraft makers Airbus, Boeing and Embraer also declined to comment. Talks about the influential airline’s business have been going on for months, but Qantas is expected to set its requirements publicly within days as it and other airlines see potential deals for the planes in the wake of the COVID-crisis. 19. «We have said for some time that the renewal of our national narrow-body fleet is on our agenda. It is a long-term proposal and when we have material updates to provide, we will do so», said a Qantas spokesman.

Qantas Airways had initially planned to place an order in 2020, but that was delayed by the pandemic. Chief Financial Officer Vanessa Hudson said in February 2021 that a tender would be launched this year. Qantas budget airline Jetstar has 109 A320NEO family aircraft on order, but the start of deliveries has been postponed until at least July 2022 due to the impact of the pandemic. In a separate competition dubbed ‘Project Sunrise’, Qantas selected Airbus over Boeing for aircraft capable of organizing the world’s longest commercial flights from Sydney to London, but plans were delayed by the pandemic. Alan Joyce said in August 2021 that the order for the A350 family would not be reviewed again until international borders were reopened.

Australia said on Friday 10/01 that a phased opening of international borders would begin next month, but only vaccinated citizens and permanent residents would be included and required to self-quarantine at home for seven days upon arrival. The country has not set a date for opening its borders to foreigners.

Aer Lingus irrumpe mercado británico

Irlandesa incursiona en el mercado doméstico inglés

AW-Aer Lingus_Dublin Airport_001

Aer Lingus_Isologotype_001

Aer Lingus breaks into British market

Irish enters the English domestic market

AW-Aer_Lingus_002

Aer_Lingus_Isologotype_shadow

The Irish airline Aer Lingus has announced the landing in the competitive British market, after Ryanair, leader in the low cost cabotage market and the regional airline, share with EasyJet the dominance of domestic flights in Great Britain and Northern Ireland. However, this winter, another Irish company breaks in and will link four UK airports, entering the local market as a competitor. Aer Lingus will start operations between Belfast, Edinburgh, Heathrow and Manchester, while from Manchester Aer Lingus will operate long-haul transatlantic flights as it has been projecting in the pre-pandemic. As of October 31, 2021, Aer Lingus will fly twice daily (2Frq/D) between Belfast and Manchester and between Edinburgh and Belfast will operate 11 times a week (11Frq/S), between Belfast and Heathrow it will fly 21 times weekly (21Frq/S) which represents three daily frequencies (3Frq/D). From November 2021, Aer Lingus will finally start flying the long range, flying three times a week to Barbados (3Frq/S), in the Caribbean. In December 2021 it will also fly to New York, while towards the end of 2021 it plans to arrive in Orlando, in Florida, United States.

The airline’s revised schedule also offers more flexibility for people wanting a destination abroad. The Belfast to Manchester route will connect travelers to Aer Lingus’ new direct flight from Manchester Airport to Barbados, providing its customers with a gateway to the Caribbean. Direct flights to the Caribbean start from 03/11 with fares starting at £ 189 one way.

«Aer Lingus is providing a significant increase in frequency between Belfast and London Heathrow, Manchester and Edinburgh, reconnecting businesses, as well as friends and families in the UK, who have been separated for too long», said Susanne Carberry, Director of Aer Lingus customers, in a statement from the airline.

Aer Lingus seeks to enter as a local operator in the UK after leaving a market vacuum following the bankruptcy of Monarch Airlines and Thomas Cook. Manchester is an important airport, whose radius of reception of travelers includes all the north of England and, even, Scotland. Its travelers do not find much sense in flying via London, making it an important alternative for the airline that will focus on leisure travel, as well as for passengers from the north of the country.

Amenaza legal American-Santander

AW | 2021 10 01 17:17 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Banco Santander Brasil SA may go ahead with a lawsuit alleging that the Coranavirus pandemic devalued a ten-year brand card agreement with American Airlines Inc. worth hundreds of millions of dollars for the airline, a New Federal Judge ruled. York. Federal District Judge Rachel Kovner in Brooklyn in New York said on Thursday 09/30 that the bank may continue with its claim that the temporary cessation of the airline’s flights to Brazil during the pandemic excused it from paying the airline millions of dollars a year to purchase award miles for cardholders.

The agreement, which reached the four-year mark in April 2021, allows Banco Santander to issue American Airlines-branded payment cards to customers in Brazil, but requires it to purchase an undisclosed number of award miles each year. American had urged Rachel Kovner to dismiss the case, saying the contract has a provision that allows the bank to terminate the deal if the airline’s market share declines by more than 50%. A months-long suspension of flights to Brazil at the start of the pandemic did not meet the criteria, she said. The Federal Judge said the bank could proceed arguing that the unforeseen interruption caused by the pandemic excused it from complying with the contract. But she dismissed her claim that the contract ended last summer under a force majeure provision. Kovner did not explain her reasoning, but said she will issue an opinion. The case is Banco Santander Brasil SA v. American Airlines Inc, United States District Court, Eastern District of New York, No. 1: 20-cv-03098.

Argentina profundiza flexibilización

AW | 2021 10 02 13:43 | AIR TRAFFIC / AIRLINES / AVIATION ORGANISMS

IATA beneplácita con decisiones en Argentina

AW-7000070

Argentina deepens flexibility

IATA welcomes decisions in Argentina

With the end of the traffic restrictions in the Argentine Republic, the airlines hope to recover one hundred percent of the routes that were lost due to the pandemic. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) received with satisfaction the latest decisions taken by the Argentine Government to lift most of the current restrictions on international flights when fourteen (14) days have elapsed since 50% of the country’s population has completed its vaccination schedule, it has generated optimism in the commercial aviation sector. It is estimated that this situation can be reached in the middle of this month of October 2021.

As of 11/01, the entry of all foreigners will be enabled, allowing them to undo an antigen test when entering Argentina or to remain in quarantine. Meanwhile, they must have a complete vaccination and a negative PCR test for a maximum of 72 hours prior to shipment.

The measures were well received by IATA. “The decision of the Government of Argentina to gradually allow the reopening of air transport in the country is good news on several fronts. First, it restores the freedom to travel, which will be especially welcomed by those who have been prevented from flying for the past eighteen months. Additionally, airlines will now be able to plan with greater predictability and regain connectivity that has been lost during this time. This will be a boost for the reconstruction of the Argentine economy, especially through the contribution of tourism and international business”, said Peter Cerdá, Regional Vice President for The Americas.

aw-aerolineas_boeing-737-8-max_0002

According to IATA calculations, the reopening of Argentina’s borders to international travelers will allow airlines to begin recovering the one hundred percent of the estimated national and international routes that were lost as a result of the pandemic. They also estimated that the US$ 1,779 million of direct contribution to Argentina’s GDP that was put at risk while the limitations were in force will begin to be generated. And they detailed that in this way they will be able to support and maintain the 21,470 local jobs and the total annual contribution of US$ 22,500 million that the sector contributes to Argentina’s GDP.

“This announcement marks a major shift in Covid-19 risk management, moving from general measures at the national level to individual risk assessment. The next challenge is to find a system to not exclude travelers who are not vaccinated and who will have to continue serving quarantine, including minors who in most cases are not even included in the inoculation campaigns in their countries of origin», said Peter Cerdá.

The IATA asked the Chief of Staff to organize meetings between the authorities and the industry to work in coordination on the steps that allow this reopening. Key priorities for the sector are elimination of quarantines without affecting unvaccinated minors and accepting antigen tests as an alternative to PCR in any instance where testing is required. The quota will gradually increase up to two weeks after 50% of the population is vaccinated with two doses.

The latest measures of the Government of Argentina provided a progressive advance in the quotas for the entry of passengers on international flights. Between this Friday 01/10 and 03/10, 2,300 places will be opened per day; between 04/10 and 10/10 there will be 21,000 places per week (about 3,000 per day); and as of October 11, 28,000 places per week (4,000 daily). Meanwhile, fourteen (14) days after reaching 50% of the population with a complete vaccination scheme, the quotas for passenger transit are eliminated.

Some airlines have already begun to anticipate their increase in flight schedules for the coming months. This week, Aerolíneas Argentinas anticipated that it will go from ten daily departures of international flights in October 2021 to about sixteen in 11/2021 and 12/2021 and to twenty-five in January 2022. Currently, the number of passengers traveling to Europe represents only 13 % of pre-pandemic numbers. In the case of domestic flights, the company expects to reach 61% of prepandemic flights by 2022, while in seats it will be 75%. All provinces will have six or more flights per week and 31 intertramos will be scheduled, with 96 frequencies per week between destinations that do not pass through Buenos Aires. According to the company, there is an acceleration in the number of reservations to fly in the last months of 2021 and the first months of 2022, boosted by the official Pre-trip plan. «The positive hypothesis, in the future for the summer season, is that we will be with between 75% and 80% of the passengers who flew in January 2020. And we have the capacity to add additional offer», said Fabián Lombardo, Commercial Director of the company on Thursday 09/30 during a meeting with journalists. Data from Aerolíneas Argentinas show that in domestic flights in the first four months of this year about 40% of passengers were transported compared to the pre-Covid figures, then there was a drop-due to restrictions that only allowed essential personnel to travel. with percentages between 20% and 18% and a recovery from July. In September, 422,004 passengers traveled, 50% compared to the months before the pandemic.

However, the recovery of international destinations will be slower. Currently, the number of passengers traveling to Europe represents just 13% of pre-pandemic numbers. For regional flights, the figure is barely 2% and for flights within America excluding the United States (for example to the Caribbean) it is 7%. The best figures, meanwhile, are for trips to the United States, where the number of passengers represents 38% compared to pre-Covid numbers.

ExpressJet rebautizada como Aha!

AW | 2021 10 01 22:02 | AIRLINES

ExpressJet renamed Aha!

ExpressJet relaunches under new Reno-based brand name

College Park-based ExpressJet Airlines has changed its business name and former regional airline out of the Atlanta base; now operating out of Reno, Nevada State (NV). This week, ExpressJet announced plans to operate flights from Reno-Tahoe International Airport to eight cities in California (CA), Washington (WA) and Oregon (OR) under a new leisure brand called Aha!, which acronym stands for Air-Hotel-Adventure.

ExpressJet, formerly known as Atlantic Southeast Airlines (ASA), was a regional carrier for Delta Connection for decades, then a United Express regional carrier before closing in 2020. The loss of the Delta contract has spelled the end of the era for the Atlanta regional carrier. In April 2021, ExpressJet filed an application with the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) to resume airline service. ExpressJet CEO Subodh Karnik said his goal was to serve cities that lost nonstop service over the years due to airline mergers and acquisitions and other factors. He also acknowledged that that would likely mean flights between smaller cities, rather than hubs like Atlanta.

Startup Aha!

Aha! expected to begin flying in June 2021, however, it was not until 07/30 that the DOT issued an order declaring ExpressJet fit to resume flight as a certified airline. Now, the new stage of the regional airline plans to start flying on October 24, 2021 completely renewed. Your first flights will be to Reno from Pasco/Tri-Cities, Washington; Medford, Redmond and Eugene, Oregon; and Bakersfield, Ontario, Arcata-Eureka and Fresno/Yosemite, California. Flights will be three times a week between destinations with 50-seat Embraer ERJ145 regional aircraft. The company said it plans to grow to more than twenty cities in 2022.

Subodh Karnik is the majority investor in ManaAir LLC, which acquired the ExpressJet airline from regional airline SkyWest in 2019. ExpressJet’s majority owner is now KAir Enterprises LLC, which has United Airlines as a minority owner.

Air France-KLM aproxima órdenes

AW | 2021 10 01 17:33 | AIRLINES

Air France-KLM cerca encomienda nuevos pedidos aeronaves

Air_France-KLM.svg

Air France-KLM_Group_Isologotype

The Air France-KLM Group could be close to completing an order for at least 80 new aircraft. Although the French-Dutch group has not disclosed the models it would order, aviation specialists have estimated that the airline will divide its order between units made by Airbus and Boeing and order at least eighty firm aircraft and options for an additional eighty.

AW-7800012

Air France-KLM had reported in July 2021 that it was looking for up to 160 narrow-body aircraft for its budget airline Transavia Airlines, making it possible to decant part of those obtained by aircraft of the Boeing 737 MAX line. Part of the orders could acquire the narrowbodies Airbus A320NEO line of aircraft. Air France, for its part, could take the option of acquiring sixty Airbus A220-300 aircraft (60), after it received its first unit this week.

The Group’s Managing Director, Benjamin Smith, has stated that the company will determine the decision in this regard in the coming months. Currently, both Air France and KLM Airlines are in a process of renewing their fleet as a measure to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions, as well as simplify processes, releasing older aircraft such as the A330 families and A319 from the Air France fleet and A330 from the KLM Airlines fleet.
