Strike in Andes Líneas Aéreas

Andes Líneas Aéreas carried out a strike on Friday

The Association of Airline Pilots (APLA) had reported that from six o’clock in the morning of this Friday, the pilots of Andes Líneas Aéreas would begin a strike before the incomplete payment of the salaries for the month of November. The measure was carried out between 06:00 and 09:30 in the morning of this Friday.

APLA spokesman Nicolás Capella said: «As the company did not come and there was no call from the Ministry of Labor, the measure will continue until they give an explanation, they did not pay the full salary in the Andes. Only 15% Pilots are aware of the difficulties the company is facing and in this sense we put our best effort every day so that the company can move forward, however, nothing, absolutely nothing, can justify that the executives of Andes do not comply with our basic rights as workers». Before the proximity with the weekend, they apologized to the passengers. «From now on, we ask users to understand our fair claims, apologizing for the inconvenience that these measures could cause».

Restructuring in Andes

The rapid restructuring of the northern airline with the return of the Boeing 737-800 aircraft that had been incorporated through a leasing contract, Andes Líneas Aéreas had developed a very profitable business niche, charter flights abroad, with which I had a lot of work in the summer for the routes to Brazil and the Caribbean. In total, he returned four of those aircraft, which represented a monthly payment of more than US$ 200,000 per unit, only for rent. At the same time, he initiated conversations with the staff offering voluntary retirement plans.

The current fleet of Andes Líneas Aéreas is made up of five Boeing MD-83 of 165 seats under its ownership are used for domestic and international charters. The airline continues to shrink. In 2016 the workforce was made up of 82 colleagues and currently there are 72 employees. Stewardesses and mechanics have been fired and in the pilots plane there were still no dismissals but some went for the voluntary retreats offered. A \ W

Union syndicates threaten new strike

The aeronautical unions of Argentina threaten a strike of 48 hours

Aerolíneas Argentinas has called the aeronautical unions on Monday to reach an agreement in the renegotiation of salary recomposition and other claims of both the guilds and the management of the airline, but negotiations stalled and have not prospered without the company could present a formal joint offer.

Aerolíneas Argentinas convened aeronautical unions to begin the negotiations of the parity 2018-2019 to unlock the hard union conflict and continue avoiding more losses for the days of strike. From the company they said: «The trade union leaders refused to even listen to the proposal of elaborated increases». The company’s proposal included the payment of a fixed amount and a percentage adjustment of wages, the opening of discussions on a labor organization that makes the company more competitive and the agreement on a mechanism for conflict resolution. Among its arguments, the company proposed to analyze one by one the 376 suspensions applied to employees from different areas who left work on November 8. On that date, more than 40,000 passengers were affected. Those sanctions were the axis of the claim of the unions, who continue asking for the total elimination of the same, without any individual review, considering that they have no legal basis.

The representatives of the guilds of pilots APA and UALA and those of ground personnel APTA, UPSA and APA, when withdrawing from the negotiation of the call, initiated a series of protests in Aeroparque without affecting the programming of the flights. The union force has requested a new meeting on Monday to determine a call for a strike for 48 hours.

From Aerolíneas have reported that if a new strike takes place, the programming of the flights would be affected. Company sources believe that the call for a strike and the measures of force do not respond to a salary question but are tacitly motivated by a rejection of the air-commercial policy of the Ministry of Transport.

Regarding the traffic of passengers transported, Aerolíneas Argentinas had a decrease in November 2018 of 12% in the number of passengers transported compared to last year and loss of market share and punctuality. A \ W

PAWA Airlines would have diverted investments to a Spanish capital airline

The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) has gathered reports that PAWA Airlines diverted its investments to a Spanish line. The Dominican aeronautical authorities are authorized to intervene to claim from PAWA Airlines the fulfillment of the millionaire debt contracted with the State of the Dominican Republic.

Without revealing the name of the Spanish airline in question, Alejandro Herrera maintained that the country’s Public Ministry will seek to make the bankrupt airline comply with its obligations. In the middle of the investigation process that is followed to PAWA; the IDAC and the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) are preparing to request the extradition to the country from the Director of the airline, Simeón García. They argue that in principle a conciliation agreement was sought for Garcia to pay more than a million dollars, but he and the executives of the airline have not responded to that proposal. «Only the IDAC this company owes US $ 1 million for the airport fee, the airplanes are practically ‘shells’, with the exception of one that will be being recovered», Alejandro Herrera informed.

On the trigger clause he remarked that «the company understands that the inflation of September was not included in the joint agreement, but we are going to analyze the issue and make a proposal, beyond the parity that has already expired. We are discussing proposals, it was a productive meeting, we managed to open a dialogue table, the company presented its points of view, and the guilds did the same and with this formal call, we wanted to make our true vocation of dialogue sit down. we say it, but we really want to discuss all the issues with our workers, we accept to suspend the application of the sanctions to those who participated in the measure of force of November 8, 2018. This does not mean that Aerolíneas has changed in any way its position on the joint situation But we do want to talk about that topic, find an agreement».

Regarding the situation of employees suspended after having participated in the assemblies that led to the cancellation of 258 flights and affected more than 30 thousand passengers, said that «we accept to suspend the application of sanctions to those who participated in the measure of force of the November 8. Now, this will be as long as social peace continues, as long as there are no new measures of force. After the measures of force of recent weeks, we have to make the company predictable, to regain the confidence of its passengers, that those who travel by Airlines feel that they are not going to be left without flying by an untimely measure and that is why we have started this path of dialogue».

Delta releases biometric system

Delta launches biometric system at Atlanta-Hartsfield Airport

The Atlanta Airport, Georgia, in the United States, the busiest in the world with 104 million passengers per year. The new technologies are accelerating the procedure with a novel system. The American commercial airline Delta Air Lines inaugurated last Thursday, November 29, at its headquarters, the Hartsfield International Airport, the first biometric terminal in the country.

The company is using facial recognition technology so that passengers can check-in (flight billing) just by looking at a screen. It is available for customers who fly non-stop to international destinations with Delta, but also with Aeroméxico, Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic Airways. The initiative aims to accelerate the process of inspection of travelers, but also strengthen air safety. «Atlanta Airport, our most important operations center, is the first airport in the United States to implement this system», Gil West, Delta’s Director of Operations, said in a statement.

The biometric identification technology used in this case consists of a camera that compares the faces scanned by travelers with those they have registered in a database verified by the US Customs and Border Protection Office (CBP). However, the Atlanta airport is the only airport in the United States that offers biometric data for check-in, baggage check and identity verification.

Delta’s competitors are applying similar technologies. JetBlue, American Airlines and Southwest Airline have initiated facial recognition pilot programs at various airports in the country. A\W

Air France studies to close subsidiary Joon

The French company Air France analyzes closing Joon subsidiary

The new management of Air-France KLM is studying the closure of Joon, the subsidiary of the group created a year ago to attend certain routes of the group. The company has not commented on these extremes that have been published in various media about the solvency of the airline focused on a group of passengers.

In the two previous cases, Lufthansa and IAG, the subsidiaries would be low-cost whose objective is to compete with Norwegian on the same routes, which is why Joon was initially created. However, almost when it was launched, Jean Marc Janaillac, the group’s General Director, said that Joon would not be a low-cost but a modern, advanced proposal, aimed at a special audience, called «lifestyle». Joon now serves unprofitable Air France routes, both long and short-haul. Its staff is hybrid: the pilots have the same conditions as in Air France but the cabin crew charges less.

Joon, at his birth, provoked widespread laughter in France, because no one understood what audience he was addressing. This, according to reliable sources, is the same as Ben Smith thinks, the new CEO of Air France, who does not fully understand what audience Joon is targeting. At the moment no decision has been made in this regard, but if it were dissolved, the unions would probably welcome the measure given that they have always been against it. Ben Smith needs to make urgent decisions about the future of the company. He has not been six months at the helm yet and has already checked the weak points that mainly focus on the lack of profitability. Air France has deficiencies in relation to its loss margins. The Air France Group negotiating with the unions a salary increase that they ask for insistently. A \ W
