South African Airways buscando recursos para sobrevivir

Resultado de imagen para flysaa

AW | 2018 06 29 15:15 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

South African looks for resources to survive

South African airways will hire its pilots to generate resources for the airline

The pilots and cabin crew of South African Airways will lend to other airlines, as the national airline, burdened by debt, tries to save itself. The airline’s general manager, Vuyani Jarana, said it was part of his cost reduction plan to save South African Airways. Jarana hopes that underutilized pilots in South Africa can take advantage of the global shortage of pilots, instead of having to lay off staff.

A South African pilot who was then hired by Japan Air was offered a lucrative salary in US dollars and an executive class flight home every three weeks. The South African Airlines pilot association, however, said it was dismayed that its members had to be hired by airlines such as Emirates, Turkish Airlines and Cathay Pacific as a result of extremely poor fiscal control and mismanagement.

Adjustment measures

The union has approached the courts to force the government to place SAA under commercial bailouts, which could force the company to restructure and take any other means to save it from its current financial situation. At the beginning of June 2018, the company decided to dismiss the catering staff, but they have not yet decided how many workers to leave. The state company’s effort to avoid layoffs could be political, and South Africa is heading for an election year in a high unemployment environment. The airline received a rescue of 3,000 million rands (almost US$ 217 million) in September of last year to avoid a default and requested another 5 billion rand (more than US$ 360 million) this year. Jarana took over SAA in November of last year and launched a three-year rescue plan that also includes the reduction of routes and the dismissal of its Chief Financial Officer and CEO.

South Africa is still unwilling to give up its flag carrier, especially in an environment that has seen Ethiopian Airlines thrive and Kenyan Airways carefully elevates its ambitions as South African Airways loses ground. «The African travel market is growing despite the challenges of SAA, so if there is growth in the market, it says that there is an opportunity for all of us to participate, I believe that if we manage internally, SAA will have the opportunity to participate», said Jarana. Fastjet cerca de la quiebra

AW | 2018 06 28 13:35 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Fastjet close to bankruptcy

Tanzania’s lowcost airline is experiencing economic problems

African low-cost carrier Fastjet is about to go bankrupt and has warned shareholders that it will cease operations this Friday unless it can raise funds urgently. The airline, which began operating in 2012 with the backing of easyJet founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is in talks with the main shareholders to obtain these funds, although he has admitted that he had no guarantee of a positive outcome.

The airline sent a notice to investors in which it recognized that it was at risk of not being able to continue operating, due to the fact that it had run out of cash, and had only 3.3 million dollars in reserve, more than half of the which is in Zimbabwe, from where it is very difficult to transfer the funds.

Stelios Stelios Haji-Ioannou, CEO, has been the main shareholder of Fastjet, but now has a stake of less than 3% in the company, following the dispute he held in 2016 with the board of directors. «Naturally, I am very disappointed by this news, I had hoped to see safe and low-cost air travel in Africa and elsewhere prosper, however, I have been increasingly worried in recent years about the way that Fastjet was running, first for Ed Winter and his team and now for Nico Bezuidenhout».

Fastjet was launched in Tanzania with the ambition to become a low-cost pan-African operator, but has had problems with the continent’s lack of banking infrastructure and with orders for over-ambitious airplanes and office costs. The airline expanded to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mozambique. The company has detached from the Airbus A319 (5) aircraft and operates only Embraer E-190 (2). Fastjet has never been able to transport more than one million passengers a year. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Laser Airlines at 24 anniversaries launches new corporate image

Laser Airlines changes the corporate image after its 24 anniversaries since its foundation as part of its innovation strategy and broad expectations of growth in the national and international market.

The new logo incorporates changes in graphic elements and the shape of the isotype evolves radically. The typography used is the reflection of a more stylized brand with premium projection, keeping in force, but more intense, the green and yellow colors that have characterized it. The slogan of the brand has also evolved towards the phrase «Connecting emotions», by suggesting the attributes of closeness and warmth that the airline seeks to transmit when interacting with its customers.

«New airs define our management in the second semester of 2018; hence, this important visual refreshment symbolizes one more step in our momentum plans inside and outside the country, where the fundamental pillar is the commitment of service and pleasant experience for our passengers. In the first phase of the launch, the new image will be displayed progressively on our aircraft, as well as in our commercial offices and airports. Likewise, the advertising strategy and internal and external communication resources will be the object of this transformation», said René Cortés, Executive Vice President of Laser Airlines.

New destinations

This is the first change of image carried out by Laser Airlines in 24 years of operations in the Venezuelan aeronautical market, promoting the arrival of new destinations to Colombia and Ecuador.

In the second semester of 2018, Laser Airlines will open routes to Bogota (Colombia) and Guayaquil (Ecuador), as part of the airline’s international expansion plan, which in March was 24 years old. René Cortes Vidal, executive vice president of Laser, announced that they are looking to convert Maiquetía into the hub of their operations, for which they will have three additional Boeing MD-83 aircraft.

Laser is already flying to Miami (USA), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Panama City (Panama) and Aruba and before the end of 2018 it will be flying to Bogotá and Guayaquil.

The aeronautical transport company announced in 2016 an investment of $ 4 million in equipment, infrastructure and services to enter these new destinations. Laser, which started operations on the island of Margarita, takes advantage of the space that foreign airlines have abandoned due to the difficult conditions to operate in Venezuela and expand the market. The renewal of the image, the first since the founding of Laser, includes logo and the slogan «Connecting emotions», with which today the first plane took off. A \ W

Norsk stat trekker aksjer i SAS
