AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

KLM pilots break negotiations

The pilots of the company KLM demand a reduction in the workload

KLM does not have serious social conflicts because in May 2018 agreements were signed with almost all workers. The Air France-KLM Group is going through a period of increasing difficulties. The KLM pilots reject the wage agreement proposed by the company. They do not call a strike, but they threaten. The VNV union does not really ask for more salary, but more costs for the company, because they demand a reduction in the volume of work, which can be done by hiring more pilots or, what is the same, paying more. The pilots took an increase of 4%, more days off and some other advantages at their last meeting in May 2018. On the other hand, Air France has been plagued by strikes and conflicts that has led it to carry important losses for the airline. Gallic country.

The 2,800 pilots have returned to the negotiating table demanding reductions in the workload they support. Nothing is as worrisome as what is happening in Air France, because not only are there no strikes called but, in addition, KLM is making money, in fact all the money the group wins because the contribution of the French airline is practically zero. The aircraft maintenance area of Air France does have benefits, but that is another branch of the business. KLM pilots say they prepare protest actions, but have not specified formulas or dates. KLM-piloten breken onderhandelingen

Surinam Airways goza de buena salud

Imagen relacionada

AW | 2018 06 06 23:40 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Surinam Airways is in good health

Although the airline is showing signs of changes, it denies possible bankruptcy

The Surinamese airline flatly denies media reports of imminent bankruptcy and operational problems and calls them slander and fables. Rumors about the poor financial situation in Surinam Airways (SLM) have been overshadowed by the company’s directors in Suriname.

The Supervisory Board of the SLM does not deny in a press release that there is a negative balance due to losses in the past, but according to the state company, the situation is not so bad that flight operations are at risk. The appearance that there is a debt due and payable of tens of millions if the sword of Damocles hovers over the head of SLM can, according to society, be referred to the realm of fables.

«The SLM has a negative balance due to losses in the past, but this debt is for the most part a claim from the shareholder, the State of Suriname, which is very responsible for this», the airline says. With the state, according to SLM, consultations are being carried out to convert this debt into a subordinated debt or a so-called premium stock reserve, in order to improve the company’s balance sheet position.

The SLM sees it as a fait accompli that faces the great challenge of operating profitably in the short or medium term without government subsidy. The shareholder has taken the necessary measures for this, which must be more elaborated and implemented by the Supervisory Board, the administration and the SLM staff.

Recently, a recently used Boeing 737-700 attracted by the SLM was forced to remain on the ground, supposedly because the papers were not in order. The SLM denies this accusation by showing incompetence or slander on the allegations made.

«Our national company is a small company with a small number of aircraft, and together with the aeronautical authority, the safety of the operation is guaranteed and nothing is left to chance», says the Supervisory Board of the SLM in the press release.

SLM flies directly to Amsterdam four times a week from the base of Paramaribo. On that route, the company is using its unique Airbus A340-300. Recently, the same type of Air Belgium plane, which was rented, including the crew, was also regularly used. The SLM also operates two regional routes with Boeing 737 aircraft, including Brazil, the Caribbean and Florida.

TUI Airways

On the Paramaribo-Amsterdam route, SLM is working closely with TUI Airways, which in turn operates on the same route once a week. The travel agency informs Reismedia about request at this time there is no reason to adjust the agreement with the SLM. TUI says he is satisfied with the development that shows the route to Paramaribo. «We have established an association with Surinam Airways and our goal is to transport more travelers to Paramaribo and show tourists the beautiful Suriname».

New competitors

Suriname is not far behind after neighboring Guyana soon opens an expanded and modern airport. The government of Suriname is actively seeking to attract traditional operators such as Avianca and COPA after it recently announced the construction and modernization of a new arrival terminal and other improvements for the comfort of passengers.

The member of the Legacy Star Alliance, COPA Airlines, with a wide network that connects all the cities of Latin America and the Caribbean with its center in Panama, is looking to start providing services to the Johan Pengel International Airport (JAP), Paramaribo. Suriname is the only independent country in South America that the airline network does not reach.

Suriname is isolated and has no air connectivity with the main capitals of the region. COPA Airlines has expressed interest in serving the Suriname market and is expected to announce air operations in Suriname before the end of 2018.

The airline had met since 2015 with government, aviation and Surinam Airways (SLM) officials, but there was no agreement. COPA officials evaluated the local infrastructure, including the facilities at the Johan Pengel International Airport (JAP). The airline wanted an «incentive package», and now the airline is back in Suriname and is seriously looking at the market.

Avianca Airlines

Officials of Avianca Airlines, the second largest airline in Latin America, visited Suriname last week to meet with government officials and airport authorities. They also met with SLM. The Colombian airline also seeks to land at the Cheddi Jagan airport in Guyana.

Copa Airlines

Copa Airlines focuses on North America, South America and the Caribbean, while Avianca Colombia, in addition to Latin America and the Caribbean, has a growing European network. Through its partnership with Star Alliance, Avianca will link Georgetown and Paramaribo with its vast destinations in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia.

The center of Bogotá is well connected to the world and, for countries like Guyana and Suriname, with very little air connectivity. A report from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in 2015 recommended that the Guianas be connected to Panama City and Bogotá. And Ethiopia, Emirates and Turkish Airlines are also looking to add Bogota to their networks.

The IDB report concluded that the Suriname air agreement with Colombia is the most restrictive and protects Avianca, the Colombian airline. Flights from Suriname can only land in Barranquilla and Cali, and can be routed through Port of Spain or Georgetown. Therefore, many of these problems must be developed before Avianca Airlines begins to provide service in Paramaribo.

SLM is looking to cooperate with other airlines and in particular with Avianca and Copa, but they should also benefit from any arrangement. Meanwhile, it is alleged that SLM has a code-sharing agreement with Avianca, but to date, the two companies have not yet operated a single flight with their joint codes. Maybe there is a code-share agreement, but only in name. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The agreement signed between Colombia and Aruba will boost air services between both countries

Imagen relacionadaThe agreement will facilitate the establishment and exploitation of international air services between Aruba and Colombia, assigning the airlines of both countries the necessary resources to further strengthen their commercial ties.

Imagen relacionadaThe Minister of Transport, Communication and Primary Sector of Aruba, Crispin Romero, signed an Agreement on Air Transport with the Minister of Transportation of Colombia, Germán Cardona Gutiérrez. It is expected that this agreement will intensify the air connections between the two countries. «The new air transport agreement between the Republic of Colombia and the island of Aruba will be aimed at strengthening the existing union between these nations, in areas such as tourism, the social and economic sector. In this way we are further strengthening the ties that have united our countries for centuries», says the Minister of Transport, Communication and Primary Sector of Aruba, Crispin Romero.

In addition to intensifying tourism in both countries, this agreement would allow exploring other tourism alternatives. Colombia and Aruba are exploring possibilities to generate joint tourism packages to offer to the European market. For Miriam Dabian, director of the Office of the Tourism Authority of Aruba (ATA) for Latin America «the signing of this agreement is a great step forward for Aruba and Colombia in the development of air transport. We hope it will translate into commercial benefits through the opening of new air routes, to and from the island».

According to ATA, in 2017 Aruba received 33,192 passengers from Colombia, and in the first quarter of 2018 there was growth in the Colombian market of 13%. For next years, an annual growth of tourism from Colombia of 11% is projected.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The IATA organism predicts that international airlines flying to Venezuela could stop flying

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) ensures that international airlines operating in Venezuela could stop landing. Five international airlines are those that operate in Venezuela. IATA Vice President for the Americas, Peter Cerdá, said that the country’s situation could continue to have an impact on international air operations to Venezuela. Iberia, Air France, Air Europa, Copa and American Airlines are the airlines that continue to work so far.

The IATA Vice President for LAs Americas said that the retention of US $ 3.8 billion dollars to airlines for repatriation of income continues. «Venezuela is closing at the level of connectivity with the rest of the world», said the IATA representative in Latin America, at the General Assembly of the Association, which is being held in Australia.

Julian Cook, CEO of Flybondi of Argentina, said he would like to sell air tickets at AR $ 200, but the Argentine government puts a brake on the minimum fare demanded by the low cost airline. Flybondi wishes to take stock of what is going on this year and anticipated which will be the new routes and which others could join in the coming months

«We want to target the public that does not fly and nothing better than low prices to change the mentality: For example, I would like to sell tickets at AR $ 200 pesos, beyond that that can not be done because they do not allow to do it unless of AR $ 500. In Argentina last year 13 million passengers traveled through the country and for us there is a market of 30 million passengers», said the CEO of Flybondi.

Flybondi has 14 destinations and four aircraft in operation, but will shortly add new routes and a fifth aircraft, with a projection of reaching seven soon. The inaugural flight to Bahía Blanca will depart on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from El Palomar Airport. Several more are planned for the next months. Republic Airways genera nuevos pilotos

AW | 2018 06 01 23:11 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Republic Airways would generate new pilots

Republic Airways Holdings Inc. plans to open an aviation school at the Indianapolis International Airport that will be able to produce hundreds of commercial pilots each year

The school is expected to help Republic Airways create 600 jobs in the state by the end of 2028, economic development officials said. In an event at the airport with Governor Eric Holcomb and Mayor Joe Hogsett, Republic announced the Leadership in Flight Training, or LIFT, Academy «will set a new standard in commercial aviation training, using advanced technology and systems to train future aviators».

Company officials said the school, once fully operational, will have room for about 350 students each year. The school will begin recruiting immediately with the first class scheduled to begin in September.

Republic and the rest of the airline industry have been dealing with a problem of pilot shortage for years. The regional operator cited the shortage as one of the problems that led to the bankruptcy reorganization of Chapter 11 in 2016. Republic said it already contracts almost 600 commercial pilots annually, but that number is expected to grow 30 percent during the next decade.

The objective of the LIFT Academy is «to create a direct line of highly qualified commercial pilots for the airline», said Republic. All graduates will be offered jobs as the company’s first official pilots. In commercial aviation, the first officer is the second in command on an airplane to the captain. The entry level riders in Republic receive a payment of approximately US$ 60,000 a year, plus the benefits.

Pending approval of its board of directors, the Indiana Economic Development Corporation plans to offer Republic up to $ 4 million in training grants based on the performance of the Skills Improvement Fund and tuition assistance over a four-year period. . The city of Indianapolis offered a 10-year reduction in the personal property tax contingent on the company’s future growth.

The total cost of tuition for the academy will be US$ 65,000, which according to Republic is lower than most other aviation schools in the country. It will also offer sponsorships and loan programs for accepted candidates.

«Opening this school in Indianapolis can be attributed to the remarkable commitment of our state and municipal government leaders, our partnership with the Indianapolis Airport Authority and our desire to make aviation affordable and accessible to all interested students», said the president. Senior Vice President of Republic Airways Matt Koscal in written comments. «Since our first flight in 1974, Republic has had a solid and extensive history of being a high-quality employer, which is something we have worked hard to achieve and we hope to incorporate our team through LIFT».

The company said it plans to invest an undisclosed amount in training technologies. Students will use a fleet of new aircraft and simulators produced by Diamond Aircraft Industries, including the single-engine DA40 and the twin-engine DA42.

The industry is expected to need 637,000 new commercial airline pilots worldwide by the year 2036 to meet the demand, Republic said, due to factors such as retirement of pilots and the growth of global aviation. In the United States, the shortage is expected to reach 8,000 pilots in total by the end of 2020.

The training process usually takes more than two years. Students generally take 12 months of classes, online and in flight instruction to become a Certified Flight Instructor or CFI. CFIs are paid to instruct other students for another year to 15 months while completing the flight time required to become a commercial pilot.

The University of Vincennes and Republic announced on Thursday the formation of a long-term training partnership that will begin in 2019. Under this program, VU students can complete their training at LIFT Academy and become part of the Republic Airline career path program . In addition, LIFT Academy students will have the option to obtain a VU online associate degree.

Republic Airline operates a fleet of approximately 190 Embraer 170/175 aircraft and offers scheduled passenger service with approximately 950 daily flights to 100 cities in 40 US states. United States, Canada, the Caribbean and Central America. The airline offers flights with associated brands of American Eagle, Delta Connection and United Express. The company has approximately 5,500 employees, including approximately 1,450 in Indiana. A \ W
