AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aeroméxico would acquire Delta CSeries

Aeromexico is in talks to take the CSeries order from Delta Air Lines

An agreement with Aeroméxico would offer a short-term solution for the builder of Canada, Bombardier Inc. and Delta Air Lines in the commercial dispute over the levies imposed by the US government on CSeries aircraft.

Aeroméxico has held preliminary talks to take some orders of Bombardier CSeries aircraft that Delta Air Lines Inc. had requested in 2016 as a launch customer, looking for an alternative to the obstacles imposed by the US government when applying Bombardier 300% tariffs to airlines. imports due to a commercial dispute of alleged dumping by the government of Quebec, towards the Canadian builder.

Delta Air Lines has a 49% stake in Aeroméxico, which is why it is negotiating to relocate some units of the Bombardier CS100 to avoid possible US commercial tariffs on airplanes to Delta Air Lines on American territory.

Aeroméxico would be considering taking an undetermined number of the 75 aircraft from the CSeries. CSeries deliveries for Delta are scheduled to begin in 2Q2018, but legal sources report that Delta could face a possible 300% tax surcharge on liens in the United States stemming from a commercial dispute with Boeing. Under the proposed Aeroméxico agreement, single-aisle aircraft would be sold to Aeroméxico and fly under the Mexican company’s flag that would not have to pay a US fare.

Aeroméxico is now reviewing its fleet that is composed of Embraer E-190, Boeing 737NG, Boeing 787 and Boeing 777. The supplier received a presentation on the CSeries last week, as well as waiting for the arrival of negotiations with Embraer. Aeroméxico has informed that the decision has not yet been determined on the future fleet at Aeroméxico.

In October, Bombardier ceded a controlling stake in the CSeries program to Airbus SE, which would allow assembly in the United States in an action that, it says, will help circumvent possible import tariffs.

A US Trade Agency is expected to issue early in 2018 on Boeing’s complaint about the Canadian company that unfairly benefited from the subsidies and left the CSeries aircraft at a value well below the cost of the aircraft in the American market. The case has fueled trade tensions between Canada and the United States and occurs when the two countries, along with Mexico, participate in tense negotiations to modernize the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).

Bombardier, meanwhile, said it would assemble the CSeries aircraft intended for US airlines at the Airbus plant in Alabama, which according to the two companies would exempt them from tax duties. Boeing has responded that the CSeries should still be subject to obligations, even if the aircraft are assembled in the United States. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

IATA predicts that airlines will see passenger and revenue record in 2018

The world’s airlines will carry a record number of passengers and will obtain collective revenues of all time in 2018, predicted IATA economists

Reporting to journalists on December 5 from the IATA headquarters in Geneva, Chief Economist Brian Pearce said that the net profits of the global airline industry in 2018 were expected to increase to $ 38.4 billion from the $ 34, 5 billion expected for 2017. Collective revenues will be $ 824 billion in 2018, an increase of 9.4% over the $ 754 billion in 2017. The net margin is expected to be essentially stable, at 4.7% in 2018 versus 4.6% in 2018. The number of Passengers transported will increase 6% from 4.1 billion in 2017 to 4.3 billion, while cargo tonnage will grow 4.5% from 59.9 million tons to 62.5 million tons.

As has been the trend of recent years, there will be significant differences in the profitability of airlines from one region to another, and North America will maintain its substantial profit advantage. It is forecast that North American operators will record a net profit of $ 16.4 billion in 2018 compared to the forecast of $ 15.6 billion in 2017.

European carriers, however, are closing the gap. They are expected to post a profit of $ 11.5 billion in 2018 versus $ 9.8 billion this year. The earnings of Asia-Pacific airlines are forecast to be $ 9 billion against $ 8.3 billion.

Then there is a big difference in the fate of the airlines in other regions of the world. Latin American and Middle East operators are expected to make small profits: Latin American airlines should record a profit of $ 0.9 billion in 2018 compared to $ 0.7 billion this year, while Middle East airlines will record a profit of $ 0.6 one billion in 2018 versus $ 0.3 billion.

Meanwhile, African carriers are expected to remain in the red with a collective loss of $ 0.1 billion, the same as in 2017. Regional conflicts and the impact of low commodity prices continue to hurt the airline industry. Africa, said IATA. And although Africa’s aircraft accident rate is improving, its five-year accident rate for 2012-2016 is the highest in the world at 8.33 accidents per million sectors. Two of the four losses of the turboprop hull in the first half of 2017 were African aircraft: A Doren Air Congo LET L-410 and South Sudan Supreme Airlines Antonov AN-26.

The biggest challenge for the profitability of the airlines, said IATA, will be the increase in costs. The airlines are expected to spend a total of $ 156 billion on oil in 2018, based on an average price of $ 73.8 per barrel and a price of Brent crude of $ 60 per barrel, an increase of 10.7% over 2017. That means that the fuel will represent 19.6% of the average operating costs of the airline.

But an even greater concern is the increase in labor costs. They have been «accelerating strongly,» IATA said, and are likely to represent 30.9% of average operating costs.

Another trend in the industry that continues, said Pearce, is the growth in new pairs of unique cities. A record number of 20,000 city-pair connections were operated in 2017, 1,351 more than in 2016, and a doubling of service since 1996 when there were fewer than 10,000 city-pair connections. While the strongest growth in new city pairs is in China, Europe is also experiencing robust growth, Pearce said. A\W

«The return of Teddy»

Little Summer forgot her toy at the airport in Edinburgh, from where she left with her mother to Orkney (Scotland), her hometown

Donna, the girl’s mother, told that neither of them noticed that ‘Teddy’, as the bear is called, had been left behind. It was only until they sat down on the plane that they noticed his absence, so the woman began to feel distressed: she said, the teddy is with her daughter since she was born, so he is very loved by the child.

He added that he told the crew what happened, but everything was ready to take off, so they did not have time to go and look for him. As soon as they landed, Donna began to call desperately «everywhere» to communicate with someone who could help her.

As he got no response from anyone, he decided to make a publication on Facebook asking for help to locate the bear. She indicated to the media that this ‘post’ came to Kirsty Walter, member of the cabin crew of the Scottish airline Loganair.

Kay Ryan, the firm’s commercial director, told that a search was immediately made at the airport to find the toy. Once they found it, they put it on the first flight they had scheduled for Orkney. Kirsty was hanging all the time from ‘Teddy’, as shown by some photos that Loganair posted on Twitter. A \ W

Royal Class nueva aerolínea en Argentina

AW | 2017 12 02 18:37 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Royal Class new airline in Argentina

Royal Class Líneas Aéreas would begin operations in the coming weeks

The project of the new Royal Class airline of Argentina is in an advanced process so they would start operations in the coming weeks with aircraft for 20 passengers. Royal Class performed 26 years of executive aviation and health services in the region.

Royal Class received a favorable opinion from the Air Transport Advisory Board (JATA) and awaits the final authorization from the Executive Power to start operating. The airline requested routes to fly from the City of Buenos Aires as HUB of operations to eleven domestic destinations and an international route, it is proposed to cover a remaining passenger demand that it detected after carrying out various market studies.

The President of Royal Class, Miguel Livi, expressed the desire to open a new market for the company, based on the regular airline model. The airline conducted a market study to determine the capabilities to perform third-level operations in the Argentine market. It would take advantage of unconventional time bands to attract customers who do not need a crucial business schedule. There is a regular flight market, which is that of people who do not necessarily have to travel during peak hours. Large companies, which fly with 150-passenger aircraft, have the need to fill all those seats and focus their operations at the first and last hour of the day. We understand that there is a non-covered remaining market that would prefer another type of schedule.

The new regional airline has estimated initial investment estimates of about US$ 8 million. The billing of AR $ 110 million for the first year and AR $ 135 million for the second year of operations

Royal Class has communicated the air routes requested for the exploitation of services in Argentina: Buenos Aires – Rosario – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Mar del Plata – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Santa Fe – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Villa Gesell – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Santa Rosa – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – San Rafael – Mendoza – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Sunchales – Reconquista – Sunchales – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Tandil – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Sunchales – Villa María – Buenos Aires; Buenos Aires – Punta del Este (Uruguay) – Buenos Aires

In this way Royal Class will enter the domestic market as a new regular airline operator in Argentina. After a market study, they believe they will cover the demand established for those routes with regional aircraft, at non-traditional times. Cities like Reconquista or Sunchales, have a very important commercial development and there are people who need to move to the City of Buenos Aires but the long distances of 600 or 750 kilometers, make it unfeasible to connect them by land transport since many need the agility of air transport to connect. Covering these routes with planes of regional size will be able to hit the connections market between those cities where a larger plane would not be viable.

Royal Class will select personnel for its operations in the different bases. Thus, another operator joins the «Revolution of the Aircraft» in Argentina, after a stage of postponement and avandono of the Argentine commercial aviation. A \ W
