Austral pretende desprogramar los E190

104482.jpg

AW | 2017 07 31 18:10 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Austral intends to sell the E190

1280px-Embraer_logo.svgThe Aerolíneas group have expressed their desire to terminate the Embraer E190 fleet of Austral Airlines

Resultado de imagen para Embraer 190 pngSince the company Aerolíneas Argentinas has been notified of the intention to get rid of the fleet of Brazilian aircraft Embraer E190 due to the fact that the market in Argentina has changed.

There are reasons why the Aerolíneas group is analyzing a fleet change in its airline partner, Austral Líneas Aéreas. A few weeks ago it had transcended information about the fleet change and its intention to expand its operational capabilities with medium-sized aircraft.

The Austral fleet

Austral Líneas Aéreas has a fleet of 26 Embraer E-190 of which 24 are of the version E190AR and two of the version E190IGW with increased weight. About 23 aircraft were purchased from Embraer and three others are leased from rental companies. The E190s are aircraft with regional operations with capacity of about 100 passengers, according to the configurations of the companies.

The Embraer fleet was a change for the renewal of the airline’s planes since the company had the MD-83 and MD-88. It was a time when the economy had shrunk due to shift policies. So the MD-80’s had been big for the market. The decision of the Argentine national government had not only «taken» the companies Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral Líneas Aéreas, but there was also a renewal of the companies’ fleet. Thus Austral went on to have a homogeneous line of all-Embraers aircraft and a smaller offer of passengers by plane/kilometers. The demand contracted for economic reasons and the E190 was the ideal fleet for that market.

The withdrawal of the «E190»

Airlines have expressed a desire to deprogram the fleet of E190, but the decision is not yet taken. The reasons for a fleet change are rooted in several reasons, including size for a new market and operating costs.

The E190 fleet is currently small for an expanding market such as Argentina. With the advent of new operators and the stimulation of the supply has generated an increase in the operative capacities of the airlines in Argentina as are the cases of Andes Líneas Aéreas incorporating a Boeing 737-800 to increase the capacities that do not offer the MD-83 / MD-88 and Aerolíneas Argentinas moving from a fleet of Boeing 737-700 to a larger model, the 800‘s series.

avion_austral

Although the E190 fleet has performed too well on its regional and coastal routes, they were soon left behind for an emerging market. Austral made calculations that an aircraft with more capacity of Embraer like E190 E2 would represent an expense of operation only 15% greater. Increased demand recommends a larger aircraft. «They were good for a different market, for a dormant market where demand was not responding. But now there are guys for most of the routes,» says an Austral spokesman.

The high cost of financing that was agreed with Brazil for the purchase of these aircraft has brought problems at the time of its amortization. Recall that there was also an alleged legal dispute over the rumors of scams in the process of buying Brazilian aircraft.

Pilots resist change

The change of the line of the MD-80 to the fleet of E190 supposed a lot of resistance on the part of the pilots. It so happens that those who embark on the commander’s career obviously intend to have a long-term career path. That is why those who came to pilot the new Embraer E190 felt that its roof was lower than that of Aerolíneas Argentinas.

Aerolíneas Argentinas has not set dates for the replacement of the E190 nor the provision of the sale for the whole fleet of E190. A \ W

Justicia ordena a FAA revisión asientos

AW | 2017 07 30 18:00 | AIRLINES / SAFETY / SECURITY / GOVERNMENT

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Justice Orders FAA Review Size Seating Aircraft

Justice has issued an order for the FAA to review the size of commercial aircraft seats for medical safety issues. The United States Senate has rejected the plan to regulate the seat size of the plane

Federal judges in Washington DC have issued an order Friday to the Federal Aviation Administration to review seat size and legroom on commercial airlines.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has not determined as a rule how much space airlines should guarantee to customers on their planes because of medical safety issues. The federal judges’ request raises the question of the safety of people on board, forcing the FAA to conduct a detailed study on the health of passengers during the plane ride and the relationship that decreases the size Of the seats and the space between the rows of seats.

The FAA said in a statement that it is «carefully studying the ruling and possible actions we can take to address the Court’s findings.»

The ruling of «Flyers Rights»

A group of lawyers, Flyers Rights, asked the FAA in 2015 to implement new rules to regulate seat space. The FAA rebuked the effort, so Flyers Rights took their claims to court and won the right to move on. The group welcomed the judges’ decision on Friday, saying the court «granted Flyers Rights and air passengers a victory.»

Flyers Rights said it worries that small airline seats are actually a safety hazard, putting passengers at risk for conditions such as deep vein thrombosis. That is a potentially fatal condition that can cause blood clots in people’s legs. Airlines can be out of touch with the realities of Americans’ needs, especially in light of escalating obesity rates.

Flyers Rights gave court evidence that the average width of airplane seats has dropped from 18.5 inches in the early 2000s to 17 inches by around 2005. The narrower seats have been driven primarily by aircraft Long-distance passengers thus allowing more room to add more rows of seats.

Seat size studies

In the passenger aircraft market, the industry has contributed to the improvement of the quality of the seats, allowing them to be lighter, more ergonometric and safer. But a detail that continues in a more critical analysis is the size of the seats and the distances between rows. The average distance between seats «has dropped from an average of 35 inches to 31 inches, and in some aircraft has been as small as 28 inches,» says Flyers Rights.

Measuring the distance from one seat to another is between a point on a seat at the same point on the seat behind it. Thus the Flyers Rights claim sets a precedent in the FAA’s mandatory analysis for a detailed study of the health impact of passengers on seat size and distance.

The Airlines

Airlines say that increasing the number of seats on a plane is good for both the bottom line of the carrier and a traveler’s wallet. By extending its costs to operate a flight over a larger number of seats in the same size plane, the airline can offer lower fares and operate more efficiently by flying fewer flights.AW-70087788.png

For example, American Airlines had reported in May that it planned to reduce the legroom of some of its economy-class seats in its new Boeing 737 MAX, then back out in June, committing to keep all seats in its Class economy cabin at 30 inches.

Among the companies that have the least distance between rows of seats are Frontier Airlines and Spirit Airlines that shortened the length to only 28 inches away.

Economy class ranks in Delta Air Lines and United Airlines are spaced between 30 and 31 inches, while JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines are between 31 and 33 inches.

The Government

In March, Congress reconsidered measures that would have established a minimum width of airplane seats and a distance between legs. But the Senate rejected the plan in April. An FAA regulation would avoid the need for Congress to act. No aviation regulator in any country has established a minimum seat width with mandatory check effect.

The FAA regulates significant parts of an aircraft cabin, including the safe design of each seat and its ability to withstand a high impact landing or accident. So far, the agency has allowed airlines to determine how to size and space their seats, but any arrangement of an airline’s cabin should allow all passengers and crew to evacuate an avon in 90 seconds in case of an emergency. Venezuela «desconectándose del mundo»

AW | 2017 07 29 20:41 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

IATA, Venezuela «disconnecting from the world»

Resultado de imagen para Venezuela map flag pngIATA warns Venezuela that it is «disconnecting from the world»

Venezuelan opponents participate this Friday in a protest called the «Toma de Venezuela», which takes place throughout the country, in rejection of the Constituent Assembly.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) urged Friday in a statement to the Venezuelan government to respect international standards to ensure the sustainability of air transport in that country and warned that it is losing connection with the rest of the world.

«Venezuela, unfortunately, is disconnecting itself from the world in terms of air connectivity; As any country Venezuela needs a robust connectivity and the important economic benefits that this generates; However, the Venezuelan Government is not meeting the necessary requirements for this to happen», the statement said on the IATA website.

Deepening air crisis in Venezuela

Venezuela has carried out «the retention of 3.8 billion dollars belonging to the airlines and a fuel sales system that harms international airlines» in that country, said IATA Regional Vice President for the Americas, Peter Cerdá. Venezuela’s refusal to repatriate $ 3.8 billion of the airline’s funds violates international treaties that the country signed, IATA said.

Venezuela is not guaranteeing equal treatment for the different airlines competing in the country, the statement said, as the government demands payment in dollars for purchases of fuel from foreign airlines. That measure contradicts the non-discriminatory nature of the Chicago Convention, ratified by Venezuela. «In many parts of the world we have seen that when governments apply a regulatory framework different from that established at an international level, passengers and industry suffer, and this is the case in Venezuela,» Cerdá said. The executive added that «airlines want to serve the country but they need to have minimum guarantees of economic and social stability in order to continue to invest.»

IATA represents some 275 airlines, which make up 83 percent of international air traffic, says the Association.

On Thursday Colombian airline Avianca suspended operations from and to Venezuela, after announcing Wednesday that it would do so from August 16. The measure includes closing the sale of tickets on the routes connecting Caracas with Bogota and Lima, the company said.

This Friday Avianca also announced that it suspended flights to Barbados until it reorganized its flight plans without having to go through Venezuelan airspace.

Crossing of «reciprocities»

Colombian airline Avianca said Friday it was unable to relocate passengers from its suspended flights to and from Caracas by Venezuelan government determinations. «The Venezuelan aeronautical authority (INAC) has denied permits for additional flights requested by the airlines contacted by Avianca for the transfer of passengers on the suspended routes,» the airline said in a statement. On Friday, Venezuelan airline Conviasa also canceled its operations and routes to Colombia, apparently by a provision of the Venezuelan National Civil Aeronautics Institute (INAC). In this way, several passengers of Avianca that had been reconomodados in flights of Conviasa were left without traveling.

The airline Iberia has recently canceled a flight for Sunday morning for the reasons of the elections and the effect that could cause the demonstrations.

The deepening of the Venezuelan crisis is in free fall, and in the commercial aviation sector of Venezuela has entered a spiral of political and economic impact where the international airlines that serve in the country have lifted their routes for reasons of weight : From the lack of payment of the debts contracted by the national Government to the technical and security problems that are experienced in the country. In Venezuela there are only 12 of 22 airlines that had until 2015. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The low-cost airline Southwest Airlines is preparing for the ceremony of delivery of the newest aircraft Boeing 737-8 MAX. Southwest based in Dallas, Texas, will acquire an additional 10 Boeing 737-8 MAX, said CEO Tammy Romo in Southwest’s second quarter earnings call.

Chief Executive Officer Gary Kelly says the airline does not expect any delay in delivery after a delay in the first delivery of 737 MAX from Norwegian Air due to problems in one of the components of the LEAP-1B engines that propel the MAX.

BOEING 737 NG OF THE SOUTHWEST AIRLINES FLEET

Southwest Airlines has orders for 30 Boeing 737-7 MAX and 170 Boeing 737-8 MAX. In this way will replace the fleet of the oldest Boeing 737 classics. The current Boeing 737-Resultado de imagen para Southwest Boeing 737-300 png300 fleet is 73 units that will be retired by the end of the third quarter. As for the 737 Next Generation (NG) third generation as the Boeing 737-700 has a fleet of 498 and Boeing 737-800 of 197 aircraft in service. The elimination of the classics will mark the largest number of aircraft withdrawals in the history of Southwest Airlines, report from the company.

The fleet of the 737 classics still in commercial service, 21 aircraft are in operating leases. This will generate a charge of US$ 60 million in punitive payments as a result of the early termination of these leases. In addition several aircraft would pass to maintenance plant upon their return from the respective rents, but adds that the costs are not expected to be significant. These charges were considered in the forecast of the additional $ 200 million pre-interest earnings and tax that Southwest Airlines obtained, as a result of this superhábit and the entry of the new Boeing 737 MAX, the withdrawal of the Boeing 737 «Classics» is accelerated. Conviasa cancela Ops a Colombia

1200px-ConViasa_737-200_YV101T.jpg

AW | 2017 07 28 15:51 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Conviasa cancels operations in Colombia

Venezuelan airline Conviasa has suspended operations to Colombia

The decision taken by the airline Conviasa would obey a response of a political nature with its neighboring country Colombia, in contrapocisión to the measure adopted by the Colombian Avianca.

After Avianca suspended its flights to Venezuela, this Friday, in less than 24 hours it was known that the Venezuelan airline Conviasa (Venezuelan Consortium of Aeronautical Industries and Air Services) would cancel its operations towards Colombia. Since the Venezuelan airline Conviasa have not pronounced for the cancellations in their routes Caracas-Bogota nor has there been a formal internal communication written by stop of the company.

Two suspensions, two different realities
Colombia’s Avianca announced Wednesday that it would suspend flights between Bogota and Caracas and between Lima and the Venezuelan capital by «operational difficulties» in mid-August, ending more than 60 years of operations in that country. The official pronouncement of the company alleges to the aggravation of the crisis forcing to effect the cancellations of its aerocomercial routes to Venezuela. «Due to operational and security limitations recorded in the last hours, Avianca is obliged to suspend its operations to Venezuela from today, and not from August 16 as scheduled,» the airline said in a statement. According to the airline, the measure «is based on the need to adapt several processes to international standards, improve airport infrastructure in Venezuela and ensure consistency in operations.»

The reality on the other side of the sidewalk is the position of Conviasa airline under the orders of the political diligence of turn that would seem to express its reproach or revancha before the decision made by Avianca. Although Conviasa has canceled its routes to Colombia, it has not expressed the weighty reasons why an airline of its size and importance in Latin America deserves to give its passengers.

It is noted that the cancellation of Conviasa flights are more a political issue than a purely economic one. A «return of gesture» where no sanity or wisdom in their dealings. An unpleasant attitude where the worst disadvantaged are the Venezuelan company itself and the passengers, where the political shift has shown the lowest democratic profile. A \ W

Protesta trabajadores American Airlines

AW | 2017 07 27 23:10 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Protests American Airlines Workers

The maintenance program requires salary increase and return of the MRO in the country

American Airlines Maintenance workers said at Dallas-ForthWorth Airport, where the airline is located, to demand a salary increase and to end the relocation of repair work abroad.

The protest shows the conflict between airlines that have struggled for years but are now making huge profits and their unionized labor forces.

With the help of a bankruptcy, less competition, cheaper fuel and new direction, American Airlines Group Inc. earned $ 2.7 billion last year.

«They’re not going to accumulate everything for them,» said John Samuelson, president of the Transport Workers’ Union (TWU). «The TWU workforce is going to receive its share in this contract negotiation.» TWU organized the protest at noon Wednesday at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, which was attended by about 600 people, police said.

The transport union and another union have been negotiating with American for a new collective contract since late 2015. The transport union says workers need higher wages to offset the concession contracts that were approved when the airline was in trouble In 2003 and 2012.

They also say that American is making a profit by moving some of the maintenance work from Tulsa, Oklahoma to workshops abroad where labor costs are lower. The airline has announced plans to build what the union says will be a $ 100 million maintenance facility in Brazil. American says they will cost 50 million.

Matt Miller, a spokesman for American Airlines, said the airline gave the union a contract proposal last week that would protect current jobs even while building a hangar for two planes in Sao Paulo, Brazil. A \ W
