Russia denounces Black Sea espionage

US spy planes threaten civil aviation

The Russian Federation said it will officially protest to the United States over an incident over the Black Sea on Saturday 04/12, when civilian planes had to deviate from their routes due to a US spy plane. «Increased activity by US and NATO fighter jets near Russian borders creates dangerous incident risks for civil aviation. If a catastrophe over the Black Sea were prevented this time, this does not mean that the United States and NATO could risk people’s lives in the future without punishment», said on Sunday 05/12 Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova on her Facebook page.

According to Russia’s civil aviation agency, two airliners had to veer off and change altitude because a NATO surveillance plane crossed their routes and ignored signals from Russian aviation security authorities. One flight was Aeroflot from Tel Aviv to Moscow and the other was a Maltese plane flying from the Black Sea resort of Sochi to North Macedonia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Joe Biden plan to hold a video call on Tuesday 07/12, after weeks of escalating tension over the Russian military build-up on the border with Ukraine and the military activities of the NATO around the Black Sea. While US intelligence had concluded that the Kremlin was planning an offensive against Ukraine as early as next year with an estimated 175,000 troops, Russia warned the West not to cross the Kremlin’s security red line and avoid infrastructure expansion. Avión Aerolíneas retorna a Aeroparque

Aerolíneas cambia handling en Uruguay |

AW | 2021 12 01 08:15 | AVIATION SAFETY

Aerolíneas plane returns to Aeroparque

Aircraft returns due to weather conditions

An Aerolíneas Argentinas flight departed on the afternoon of Sunday 11/28 from Jorge Newbery Airport/AEP in Buenos Aires bound for Punta del Este at Laguna del Sauce Airport/PDP. However, due to bad weather conditions, the trip has been bumpy. The aircraft tried to land five times during an hour, during which time it flew over the Uruguayan airport of Punta del Este. After failing to do so, he returned to Aeroparque on the night of Sunday 11/28, postponing the flight until the morning of Monday 11/29. The flight took off again at 06:50. with another crew and, this time, the plane made four attempts until it finally managed to land in Laguna del Sauce. The passengers and their families denounced the situation because they never managed to find out the reasons for what happened and had to spend the night at the Buenos Aires air station.

The passengers on board said that during the flight they experienced tense moments and many nerves due to the lack of information about why there were so many failed attempts to make landfall in Uruguay. Some of the passengers handled information that it was about light and radar problems, but neither the company nor the authorities in charge of the flight could give them explanations about the inconveniences. Those responsible for the Laguna del Sauce Airport explained, for their part, that on both flights the difficulties were related to meteorological factors and had not to do with technical limitations on the part of the air terminal.

In fact, they confirmed that the airport is working with its technology and equipment without any problem. They also added that when entering the Laguna del Sauce air terminal, there was only one immigration official who could not cope with her tasks, such as paperwork and receipt of travelers’ documentation. They even affirmed that several entered the country without the current sanitary controls and that some documentation required for entry was not requested from the passengers. Laguna del Sauce Airport is the closest to the city of Punta del Este and therefore several international flights from the region arrive at the Uruguayan tourist spot.

The behavior of Aerolíneas Argentinas is strange when it does not provide explanations regarding the air incident that has involved you flights on the Buenos Aires/AEP—Punta del Este/PDP route. The meteorological conditions for the FIR EZE area for Monday 11/29 represented in the city of Buenos Aires and surroundings with cloudy skies, an estimated temperature of 17 degrees of minimum and 26 of maximum, and winds from the southeast sector, reported the Meteorological Service Nacional (SMN) of Argentina; While in Punta del Este on the same day, Monday 11/29, they had similar weather conditions, so the air navigation did not represent any unforeseen event because several flights had landed without difficulties that day. In any case, the Uruguayan Institute of Meteorology (Inumet) had extended the alert that governed for strong and persistent winds, which was in effect until 01:30 this Tuesday, 11/30. The Inumet meteorological service issued a warning for strong and persistent winds for Tuesday 11/30. An atmospheric depression deepens over the South and East of the national territory, generating sustained SW component winds of between 40-60 km/h with gusts of 75 km/h.

The incident must be investigated and explain the conditions of the Aerolíneas Argentinas aircraft fleet, which has set off some alarms in recent times and why so much secrecy by not giving explanations to the press.

Representantes presionan a Boeing

AW | 2021 11 30 12:03 | GOVERNMENT / AVIATION SAFETY

Demócratas presionan FAA acción contra ciertos empleados Boeing

AW-Transportation.gov

Representatives pressure Boeing

Democrats push FAA action against certain Boeing employees

AW-Boeing & 737 MAX__Isolotype

While The Boeing Company is eager to put the fallout from the two Boeing 737 MAX plane crashes behind, Democrats in the United States House of Representatives Transportation Committee chaired by Representative Peter DeFazio are pushing for greater individual responsibility. due to the lack of supervision in the commercial aircraft line.

On Monday 11/29, DeFazio, (D-Ore.), And Rick Larsen, (D-Everett), Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee, asked the Chief of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Steve Dickson, what actions he has taken by the FAA against individuals at Boeing responsible for two specific cases of apparent deception of customers and regulators during the development of the 737 MAX. «We are deeply concerned about the absence of rigorous accountability for past Boeing violations related to the 737 MAX and the FAA’s failure to hold accountable those who violated the public’s trust», the two wrote in a letter to Steve Dickson.

The two cases cited are separate from those documented by the Justice Department in its recent criminal indictment against former 737 MAX Technical Chief Pilot Mark Forkner. The letter specifically calls for the FAA to go after others at Boeing who have not been publicly identified. The company declined to comment on Monday 11/29. The first issue cited relates to a MAX flight deck alert designed to tell pilots that the readings from the aircraft’s two angle of attack sensors were not in agreement. Boeing discovered in 2017 that this alert was not working on the vast majority of MAXs. But it judged that the malfunction was not a security issue and decided not to fix it until a planned update in 2020.

The Boeing Company did not inform the FAA or its airline customers of the problem until after the first accident in late 2018. DeFazio’s letter quotes former Acting FAA Administrator Dan Elwell in 2019, stating that due to That this crew alert was approved as part of the FAA-certified design of the MAX, «it was required to be installed and operated on all 737 MAX aircraft». The letter notes that a Boeing engineer working as an authorized FAA representative «agreed with Boeing’s decision to delay the solution. Several people throughout the company were aware of this problem. Boeing’s actions showed utter disregard. through the FAA regulatory process», the letter states. DeFazio and Larsen ask what the FAA has done to hold Boeing accountable for misleading its customers and violating FAA regulations, and specifically ask if that engineer is still authorized to perform work on behalf of the FAA.

Effort to minimize MCAS

The second issue raised in the letter is an internal company meeting in 2013, the minutes of which detail an explicit plan by multiple Boeing employees to minimize the effects of MCAS externally, including to regulators. The Maneuvering Characteristics Increase System (MCAS) is the flight control system that was erroneously activated on the two flights involved in air accidents (JT-610 / ET-302) and forced both planes to plummet. «If we emphasize that MCAS is a new role, there may be a greater impact on certification and training», the minutes of that meeting noted. Again, the letter from DeFazio and Larsen notes that an authorized Boeing representative signed the plan to minimize MCAS.

«What, if anything, has the FAA done to hold accountable any of the people at Boeing who participated in Boeing’s efforts in 2013 to minimize MCAS?». The letter asks. Specifically, it asks if the Boeing Authorized Representative who approved the plan is still authorized to perform work on behalf of the FAA. This renewed push for greater accountability comes after Boeing reached a legal settlement this month with the families of those who died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash that established a process to resolve nearly all claims. That settlement covers almost all pending claims against the company.

Meanwhile, the Boeing 737 MAX is back in the sky, with about 1,300 flights a day, according to FAA data. By the end of October, 207 of the 380 Boeing 737 MAXs that had been delivered prior to grounding were back in service worldwide. Another 203 new MAXs had been cleared by the FAA to fly passengers.

Dangerous scandal would affect Aerolíneas Argentinas

Aerolíneas Argentinas could be involved in a scandal if a complaint made by ex-employees who accuse the state company of tampering with the maintenance reports of their aircraft advances in court. A report from the PPT Box program broadcast last week on the television channel El Trece, revealed that 42% of the aircraft fleet of Aerolíneas Argentinas remains on the ground due to lack of maintenance, including almost all of its Embraer E190 aircraft, which in turn time it can generate a loss of domestic flights. The journalist host of the program, Jorge Lanata, now added a complaint made by two former technicians of the company in which they warn about «the adulteration of maintenance tasks records, that the rules to keep the planes preserved were not complied with. the complaint, in the Embraer fleet aircraft records system there are checks and revisions made in a timely manner, but which were never actually carried out. The person who signed was not working that day, so he could not have signed anything».

Embraer E190 regional jets may be operating without being checked, which represents a very great risk, holding the company responsible for taking out planes that are not checked. «There are at least three planes that are flying without having complied with the inspection rules», express the former employees of the Maintenance area. This is in addition to the lack of investment in the maintenance of the fleet of more than seventy (70) owned and leased aircraft owned by the state airline, which according to specialists requires an urgent outlay of US$ 200 million. The complaint is being investigated in the Court of Sebastián Casanello.

Nueva variante COVID alerta aviación

AW | 2021 11 27 10:27 | AVIATION SAFETY

Aerolíneas preocupadas tras nueva variante de Coronavirus

AW-Covid-19_Omicron

New variant COVID alert aviation

Airlines concerned after new variant of Coronavirus

Travel doors slam shut when the new variant of Covid-19 called Omicron triggers the alarm, stranding hundreds of passengers, reverting to restrictions around the world as cases of infections increase. The Omicron variant triggers travel bans and worries scientists. Major travel destinations, including the European Union, Japan, Australia, the United States and Canada, have moved to block flights from African countries following the discovery of the Omicron variant, echoing previous emergency responses that triggered a freeze. global travel.

The speed with which the new restrictions were imposed, just hours after South African health authorities announced the discovery of the variant, meant that passengers have found themselves stranded without warning. Hundreds of South African passengers were held for hours at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Friday, and dozens ended up being sent to a hotel quarantine. This came after the Netherlands imposed new travel restrictions amid concerns about an aggressive mutation of the new coronavirus.

Two flights carrying between 400 and 600 passengers from South Africa, one from Cape Town and the other from Johannesburg, landed at Schiphol local time on Friday morning, an airport spokesman said. Dutch health authorities later said 61 of the passengers tested positive for the virus, although it has not yet been determined whether they had been infected with the Omicron variant.

The new strain has so far been detected in South Africa, Botswana, and in two quarantined travelers in Hong Kong. A case has also been reported in Belgium and Israel. Several other European countries, including Germany and the Czech Republic, said they were investigating suspected cases. European Union states agreed to introduce temporary restrictions on all travel to the EU from southern Africa on the new variant of the coronavirus, the bloc said on Friday 26/11. The affected countries are Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe, said European Commission spokesman Eric Mamer.

Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden will restrict travel from South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique and Malawi starting Monday 11/22, administration officials said. Joe Biden told reporters that he had decided that we are going to be cautious about the variance. «We don’t know much about the variant, except that it is a great concern and seems to be spreading rapidly», the US president said. Canada will be «banning the entry of foreign nationals who have traveled through South Africa in the last 14 days, due to the Omicron variant», Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos said at a press conference on Friday. Anyone who has traveled through southern Africa in the past 14 days should be tested for Covid-19 and self-quarantined until they have a negative test result. The countries include South Africa, Mozambique, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and Eswatini. «Canadians and permanent residents and those with the right of entry to Canada will be screened upon arrival, [and] will be quarantined until they obtain a negative test result», according to Jean-Yves Duclos. The United Kingdom, Japan, Brazil, Thailand, Singapore, Tukey, Egypt, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Jordan are also among those imposing restrictions on flights and travelers from southern African nations in light of the new variant.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Friday 11/26 that it had designated the newly identified variant, B.1.1.529 (Omicron), as a variant of concern. While only dozens of cases have been identified so far, news of the variant, which has about twice as many mutations as the Delta variant, is already raising fears around the world.

On Friday 11/26, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) warned against travel bans, emphasizing that such restrictions are not a long-term solution when it comes to handling variants of the Coronavirus. «Governments are responding to the risks of the new variant of the coronavirus in emergency mode causing fear among the traveling public. As soon as possible, we must use the experience of the last two years to move to a coordinated, data-driven approach that find safe alternatives to border closures and quarantine», IATA Director General Willie Walsh said in a statement.

Cuestionan seguridad Boeing 737 MAX

AW | 2021 11 26 22:14 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

Boeing 737 MAX safety questioned

Boeing refutes new safety concerns

It has been called «the most analyzed transport aircraft in history,» but some critics believe that The Boeing Company Boeing 737 MAX is still not safe. It was cleared to fly passengers again by US regulators last year, after being grounded after two catastrophic accidents. Since then, however, a number of potentially serious problems have been reported during 737 MAX flights. Boeing insists that the plane is safe and reliable.

On October 14, 2021, a Boeing 737-8 MAX took off from Boeing Field Airport in Seattle (WA), bound for Brussels, Belgium. It was a delivery flight, taking the new plane to start working for its owners from the Tui travel group, under the airline Tui Airways. But minutes after the 5,000-mile trip, the pilots reported an urgent «flight control problem» and had to turn back. The plane landed safely shortly after. The problem, linked to the autopilot, was rectified relatively quickly. The plane departed again for Brussels the next day, and has been flying regularly ever since. However, this was not an isolated incident.

Anytime a carrier or repair station in the United States discovers any serious failure, malfunction, or defect on board an aircraft, it must report it to the United States regulator, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), through a called «Service Difficulty Report». There have been more than 180 such reports since the 737 MAX returned to service. Most of the faults were found in planes that were on the ground. But on 22 occasions, they occurred in flight, and in four of them the pilots declared emergencies. American pilots also declared emergencies on two other occasions due to engine failures. These events do not currently appear in the FAA database, but have been reported on the Aviation Herald website, which lists accidents and incidents in commercial aviation. The problems occurred in a US fleet that is still relatively small, with fewer than 160 aircraft delivered in mid-October, some of which were grounded for several weeks early in the year after the discovery of electrical problems.

Variante COVID amenaza mundo

AW | 2021 11 26 15:38 | AVIATION SAFETY

Nueva variante B.1.1.529 sudafricana alerta a OMS

AW-Covid-19_001

Variant COVID threatens the world

New South African variant B.1.1.529 alerts WHO

With the resumption of the Covid-19 epidemic across Europe, the coronavirus is back at the center of the news. New twist in this series that seems endless: the identification of a hypermuted variant, B1.1.529 in South Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) will meet urgently on November 26, 2021 to discuss your case.

The new case of the strain triggers an emergency meeting of the WHO on November 26, 2021. A new variant of SARS-CoV-2 of particular concern to scientists because it is hypermuted. It emerged in South Africa, in the Johannesburg region around November 10, 2021. At the time of writing, confirmed cases are reported in South Africa (65), Botswana (6) and Hong Kong Island, China (4). This is less than 100 cases for which the genome is sequenced and identified.

Scientific information

The WHO has not yet ruled on the profile of this variant: is it a variant of interest (VOI) or of concern (VOC)? If it is considered a VOC, it could be called Variant Nu to follow the tradition of the Greek letters. Meanwhile, it is called B.1.1.529, in reference to its phylogenetic lineage. Scientific information on B.1.1.529 is very limited and has yet to be confirmed. But it has a significant number of mutations, more than 30, in its protein S, the same one that allows its attachment and entry into cells. Some of these mutations are present in the Alpha and Delta variants and by analogy, scientists fear that they also give B.1.1.529 the power to evade the immune system and reduce the effectiveness of vaccines. The impact of the mutations on the behavior of this new variant has not yet been confirmed. There is still little information on the health status of people infected with B.1.1.529, and therefore it is impossible to conclude on the severity of the symptoms it causes.

Aviation impact

Several countries, including France, have already announced the suspension of their air links with South Africa and its neighbors to prevent the spread of B.1.1.529. The confirmed cases on Hong Kong Island were travelers from the country. If the emergence of this variant appears to be of concern to the scientific community, the limited data available calls for caution. It could only be one of the many variants of SARS-CoV-2 that emerged without nullifying the others.

More scientific studies are needed to find out if we are also facing a variant. contagious than the Delta Variant. In South Africa, Variant B1.1.529 appears to spread faster than the latter. The next few weeks should tell us more about B.1.1.529.

European Commission certifies airline safety Moldova

The European Commission (EC) considered this Thursday 25/11 safe all airlines certified in Moldova, eliminating from the list of airlines subject to a ban or operating restrictions in the European Union (EU) for failing to comply with international safety standards, but it included another Russian operator.

AW-Air Moldova_A32020002

The EC explained in a statement that it decided to remove Moldovan airlines from the blacklist due to improvements in aviation security in the country, while in the case of the Russian it expressed concern about its ability to comply with the international standards. Air Moldova, the country’s main airline, has benefited from the update of the safety regulations for its country. For the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina-Ioana Vălean, “Ensuring the highest level of aviation security for Europeans and all other passengers traveling to and within the European Union is a fundamental aspect of the Commission’s aviation security policy. Maintaining the highest level of security for all air travelers and staff is a top priority. The EU aviation safety list continues to be one of our most effective tools to achieve this, after two years of intense work, opening the door for them to fly to the European Union again”.

According to the Commission, the EU aviation safety list not only helps to maintain high levels of safety within the community, but also helps airlines and the countries involved to improve levels of aviation safety. In addition, it has become an important preventive tool, allowing countries to be motivated to take early action before a ban is necessary.

The update of the European Air Safety List a total of 97 airlines are prohibited from accessing the skies of the European Union, reaching ninety certified airlines in fifteen countries due to inadequate security supervision by the aviation authorities of those states. Seven other airlines have identified serious security deficiencies, including Avior Airlines (Venezuela), Blue Wing Airlines (Suriname), Iran Aseman Airlines (Iran), Iraqi Airways (Iraq), Med-View Airlines (Nigeria), Skol Airline LLC (Russia) and Air Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe). Similarly, two other airlines are subject to operational restrictions and can only fly to the EU with specific aircraft types: Iran Air (Iran) and Air Koryo (North Korea).

The EC noted that this update is based on the unanimous opinion of the aviation security experts of the Member States, who met from 9 to 11 November 2021 by videoconference in the Aviation Safety Committee of the European Union. This committee is chaired by the European Commission and has the support of the Community Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), while the Transport Committee of the European Parliament, for its part, also supports the updating of the list. The assessment is carried out based on international safety standards and, in particular, the standards promulgated by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
