AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

They find wreckage of a plane that could be the Malaysia Airlines MH370

The manager of a hotel in southern Mozambique said Monday it had found traces of an airplane in this tourist area where other pieces probably belonging to the missing plane flight MH370 Malaysia Airlines were discovered in recent months.

It is a triangular piece with 2 sides of about 1.2 meters and seems to have spent enough time in the ocean, said Jean Viljoen, who found the piece on a beach.

It is red and white on one side, and on the other, has stickers with names written. Some may he read, he said, adding that he had delivered the remains to the police.

The Boeing 777 disappeared for unknown reasons on March 8, 2014 while on his way from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing with 239 people on board, most Chinese citizens. This is one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history.

The piece was discovered on a beach near Morrumbene, 280 kilometers north of Xai-Xai, where wreckage of a plane in December 2015. They met in March, another piece, 220 kilometers north found.

So far, the only evidence that the Boeing 777 crashed is a wing fragment found in July on the French island of Reunion in the Indian Ocean, belonging, according to the Malaysian authorities and the French courts, the missing plane.

Meanwhile, the Australian authorities, who lead the search for the missing plane, argue that five pieces found in Mozambique, South Africa and Mauritius MH370 most likely proceed. A\W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

American Airlines new ad campaign wants to humanize the airline

Two years after American Airlines launched ads focused on its passenger-friendly improvements — like new airplanes, more Wi-Fi and more business class flatbeds — the carrier is switching course with a new, more sophisticated campaign designed to “humanize” its message.

Resultado de imagen para American Airlines advertising

The now-retired ‘Going for Great’ Campaign, “felt like it was a lot about us,” American vice president for marketing Fern Fernandez said, while new ads highlight “the shared mindset between our customers and our employees.”

Instead of bragging about product or routes, American mostly will emphasize its passengers, calling them the “world’s greatest flyers.” The campaign is the first major one created by American’s new agency, Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which last year replaced TM Advertising, a Texas-based affiliate of McCann Erickson, as American’s lead agency. TM had handled American’s work since 1981.

A series of advertisements describe the quirks of customers, noting that they walk faster in airports than elsewhere, love babies (except when on planes), and pack “like they’re solving a jigsaw puzzle.” The video ads also emphasize shared elements of travel, suggesting American’s customers always ask permission from their seat-mates before raising and lowering their window shades.

The ads end with the tagline, “the world’s greatest flyers fly American.”

The ads are designed to attract more customers to American. But Fernandez said the airline also wants to use them to raise the level of decorum on aircraft.

“What we want to do is create a great an environment where people are nice to each other,” Fernandez said.

Unlike United Airlines, which uses Matt Damon, and Delta Air Lines, which uses Donald Sutherland, American is not relying on celebrity voice-over. It has done so in the past. Mad Men star Jon Hamm narrated some of American’s commercials in 2013 and 2014, but this time “it felt like it was a little more real,” to use an unrecognizable voice, Fernandez said.

“You know a smile goes a long way on a short flight,” one print ad reads. “You know to ask before reclining your seat. But more importantly, you know sitting next to you would make for a more pleasant flight. In fact, you’d probably help you lift your luggage into the overhead.”

American will still run some ads in key markets about its products and routes, but decided it no longer needed that information in all of its messaging. This new campaign is about a “repositioning” of American’s brand, while the other was “more tactical,” Fernandez said. American wants its brand to be “relatable” to travelers, he added.

American is also using similar themes in its internal communications. The airline created a 1 minute 15 second video highlighting the virtues of its employees.

“You’re the difference between a good airlines and a great one,” the video says. “You don’t see suitcases, you see peoples’ lives.” A\W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Airlines fined for giving inaccurate compensation information

Four of the nation’s largest airlines were fined by the Federal Aviation Administration for giving passengers inaccurate information about how much compensation they should get for being kicked off an overbooked flight or having their luggage lost or damaged.

Alaska Airlines was fined $40,000; American Airlines was fined $45,000; Southwest Airlines was fined $40,000; and United Airlines was fined $35,000. All four were ordered to stop such violations.

Under Department of Transportation rules, passengers who are involuntarily bumped off an overbooked domestic flight must be offered an alternative flight that arrives no later than an hour after the original flight.

If the airline puts a bumped passenger on a flight that arrives between one and two hours after the original flight’s scheduled landing, the carrier must compensate the passenger 200% of the cost of the original fare, up to $675.

If the airline puts the bumped traveler on a flight that arrives more than two hours after the original arrival time, the airline must pay 400% of the cost of the ticket, up to $1,350.

Those dollar amounts were increased slightly last year, but DOT investigators said the airlines still were handing out pamphlets to passengers showing lower compensation amounts. In some cases, the airlines couldn’t produce information telling passengers how much they were entitled to collect.

The top payout a carrier must give each passenger whose luggage has been lost or damaged was raised last year to $3,500 from $3,400, but DOT investigators said the carriers were giving passengers notices that said the payout was less than $3,500.

In consent agreement documents provided by the DOT, all four airlines said they take passenger compensation rules seriously but agreed to pay the fines to settle the allegations.

“We are committed to ensuring that air travelers know the rules and have accurate information about compensation when they are bumped from flights and for lost, damaged or delayed baggage,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement. A\W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

American Airlines not bringing jets to Roanoke Regional, yet

ROANOKE · American Airlines is offering regional jet service at Lynchburg Regional Airport, but that’s not the case yet in Roanoke.

Brad Boettcher, the Roanoke airport’s director of marketing and air service development, said the service won’t be offered there anytime soon, but is a possibility years from now.

Boettcher said Piedmont Airways, a sister branch of American Airlines, has a base at ROA with a maintenance facility specialized in fixing and flying the smaller prop planes.

After the first of the year, Piedmont closed crew bases in Charlottesville, Virginia and Newborn, North Carolina. Those 200 employees were moved to Roanoke.

“So, while we don’t have the jet service because we are a flight crew and maintenance base for Piedmont, there’s an added benefit to the Valley that we do have those flight and maintenance crews that are living and working here,” said Boettcher.

Boettcher said Delta increased flights and seats at Roanoke Regional this year and if they continue to be filled, larger planes are promised.

United will add another flight option to Washington Dulles International Airport next month. A\W

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Ultimatum Isela Costantini Aerolíneas pilots

Through a letter, he told them that if they do not fly the Airbus A330, will be canceled flight to Rome from 2017

The owner of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Isela Costantini, the pilots sent the company an internal letter which set a deadline to decide whether the company will continue to fly or not to Rome. Through the letter, the official suggested that if there is at least 90 drivers listed to operate the new Airbus A330 in ten days, the route to the Italian capital could be disabled.

«I am writing to work together to save the route to Rome,» the executive raised in the letter. «The only way to keep (…) means operating on a daily basis and have to fly with A330 aircraft. To achieve rethink this route before July 2017, when the next high season starts in Europe, we need 33 Commanders and 57 co-drivers of the A340 fleet flying pass on the A330 fleet.» He adds: «Those interested should contact the Fleet Management and report its decision in writing before Monday September 5».

The letter adds that as part of the rescheduling, the «post» New York (the number of days that the pilots and cabin crew remain on that scale) drop from five to four days. And once the claim made, Costantini warned: «In the absence of the transfer of the 90 crew and reduction in a day JFK post, and given the deprogramming three A340 in the coming months we will be forced to discontinue our service to Rome from the first months of 2017 «.

Days ago, in conversation with Clarin, both Costantini as Transport Minister, Guillermo Dietrich, had said that the international routes of Aerolineas Argentinas was subject to revision. «We will take a period of adjustment,» Dietrich said, «but you have to go out and compete with other airlines under the same conditions».

In his letter, Costantini mentions that had already talked about the issue with the leaders of the Association of Airline Pilots (APLA), headed by Paul Biro. However, the hardness of the terms implies that there is an overlap with at least several members of the union conflict. Biro was out of the country yesterday.

Costantini finishes his letter by reiterating that the route to Rome depends on the number of pilots adhere. «The decision presented here is to contribute to the future growth of the Group and double the bet. Otherwise, without the commitment and collaboration of all, the route to Rome will cease to exist, which, besides being an unfortunate fact, will have a strong impact on the sustainability and future of our company. « A\W
