Airbus redesigns CDC Airspace A320/A330

Airbus LogotypeAirbus opens new cabin personalization areas for the A320 and A330 programs

Airbus has expanded its customer service center called the Customer Service Center Definition of the Airspace (CDC) at its Airbus plant in Hamburg, Germany for the customization of the cabin program, including the A320/A330 programs to complement the personalization areas of the aircraft. Existing A350 XWB program. From now on operators of all these programs can experience the well-established method for a quick, easy definition and technical cockpit status that Airbus has been offering to customers of the A350 XWB since the original CDC, first opened in 2014. On the other hand, the CDC now fully adopts the cabin «Airspace», which was launched for the first time with the A330NEO, and establishes new standards of comfort for the cabin, the environment, the service and the design of the airlines and your passengers As a result, the CDC was renamed the Customer Service Center Definition of the Airspace.

After the launch of this extension in April 2017, construction began to expand existing facilities to redesign the CDC and the equipment of a large adjacent hangar and a cooperative work environment. Recently completed, the new facility adds approximately 4,500 m² of new surface in two floors dedicated to A320 and A330 customers, and will encourage the realization of its integrated cabin solutions. The extension of the CDC has new areas specific models of the client, as well as highly flexible presentation and conference rooms on two levels with the environment of an industrial loft.

«With the capacity of the A320 Family aircraft to serve long-range routes and the A330NEO evolution, the cabins of these aircraft families have become more specific and are subject to intense personalization. From today four out of five A350 XWB customers are at the same time the A320 / A330 operators this step is a win-win-win situation for all parties involved to encourage and optimize the definition of the cabin through its fleet», said Sören Scholz, Airbus Senior Vice President of Cabin & Cargo Program.

The design of the CDC Program is a unique definition process through a highly specialized designed matrix. In line with Airbus’ history of cabin innovation, the extension brings several new technologies and services that are already available through different types of aircraft. A key feature is a low-projection system invented by Airbus, which shows the design of the cabin on a large scale on the ground. In combination with the original elements of the cabin, customers can perform live tests of alternative designs and scenarios. In addition to this innovation, some in model layout have been expanded to include a loading area to discuss solutions for the use of the space in the lower deck. In addition to meeting rooms are updated with the latest virtual reality technologies.

The combination of functional playrooms for cabin equipment testing, exhibition areas for typical aerial product staging, design studies for material and mood light definitions, virtual and augmented reality technology complemented with areas Customer-specific mock-up, make the airspace to the CDC a unique and attractive one-stop shop for customers. JetBlue Airways desafía el Atlántico

AW-Airbus_a321_neo.jpg

AW | 2019 03 31 19:13 | AIRLINES ROUTES

JetBlue mira hacia Europa

Resultado de imagen para jetblue logo pngThe low cost US airline JetBlue Airways studies crossing the Atlantic

For several years, JetBlue Airways executives have been hinting at the possibility of flying to the old continent. An approximation to this fact is that the airline negotiated the right to convert some of its Airbus A321NEO’s orders to the larger A321NEO LR model. However, JetBlue Airways has yet to move forward with firm plans for the transatlantic service.

Awakening competitiveness

On the other side of the US coast is Southwest Airlines, where some experts have speculated that the launch of flights from the west coast to Hawaii could also pave the way for it to enter the European market. CEO Gary Kelly may have encouraged this speculation by pointing out last year that the city of Baltimore-Washington could be a logical starting point for flights to Europe. But it is likely that Southwest will develop only a symbolic presence in Europe, if so, for at least the next decade.

JetBlue looks towards Europe

On April 10, 2019, JetBlue Airways will hold a special talk for employees in New York about the vision and strategy of JetBlue. It has been speculated that JetBlue would use this event to announce its plans to fly to Europe. JetBlue management previously stated that the company would decide during 2019 whether or not to convert some Airbus orders to the A321LR. JetBlue had initially planned to make this decision by the end of 2017, but delayed the timetable to continue studying the business case.

Resultado de imagen para jetblue A321 pngTransatlantic market

JetBlue Airways studies the transatlantic market in the midst of a revolution of companies that declared themselves bankrupt, especially the European low cost, so entering the transatlantic market may sound quite convincing. When studying the new product of the Airbus construction, the extended-range A321LR, has much in common with the other Airbus A320 family aircraft that are already in the JetBlue fleet, which would have a commonality for the company fleet and future flights to Europe, focusing services from New York and/or Boston, which are relatively closer to Europe. JetBlue Airways’ lack of transatlantic service is one of its biggest weaknesses when competing for business travelers in Boston, where it is already the largest airline. JetBlue flies to 40 of the 50 best destinations in Boston today; four of the 10 that do not work are in Europe: Dublin, London, Paris and Reykjavik.

The Airbus A321LR has a wide range to fly from Boston and New York to the four cities, along with other key markets such as Amsterdam, Frankfurt and Madrid. Lastly, JetBlue already has a highly acclaimed flat bed business class that it uses for transcontinental flights, which could be adapted to the transatlantic market.

In the case of Southwest Airlines flights to Europe they do not make as much sense. The case of Southwest Airlines to fly to Europe is much weaker. On the one hand, its product in flight is aimed at short-distance flights. The lack of meals in flight and extra seats for the legs could be cause for break for some travelers on the routes of the west coast-Hawaii and could be even more problematic in flights to Europe, so the flight times would be even longer. However, the biggest problem is that Southwest’s planes do not have enough scope to serve most of Europe effectively from the airline’s major markets. The Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) is the only one of the 10 largest Southwest focal cities located in the Northeast.

Southwest Airlines has a large presence in BWI, with more than 200 daily flights. But BWI is almost 400 miles farther from Europe than Boston. In addition, the Boeing Boeing 737-8 MAX has an established range of only 3,550 nautical miles, compared to 4,000 nautical miles for the A321LR. That means Southwest could probably fly the 737-8 MAX from BWI to some popular leisure destinations like Reykjavik, Dublin and Edinburgh. But flying to London would have limitations, as well as continental Europe would be out of the question. The smaller Boeing 737-7 MAX will have more range (approximately 3,900 nautical miles), which puts London and some key cities in continental Europe within range. But it will have significantly higher unit costs than the Boeing 737-8 MAX, which makes it much more difficult to make gains on long distance routes.

Different business models

Different business models and different regional footprints. It is not very surprising that flying to Europe makes sense for JetBlue Airways but not for Southwest Airlines. The roots of JetBlue are in the northeast, while Southwest began in Texas and expanded from there. JetBlue Airways has offered extra leg room seating for an additional fee for more than a decade, while its rival has maintained a policy of open seats. Given the capabilities of today’s technology, namely the Airbus A321LR and the Boeing 737-8 MAX, flying to Europe is a natural extension of the JetBlue business, just as flying to Hawaii is a natural growth avenue for Southwest Airlines.

It is likely that Southwest decides a few years later to start flying from BWI to nearby points in Europe that it can reach with the 737 MAX: Iceland, Ireland and Great Britain. But with only a few dozen departures daily at other airports in the northeast closer to Europe, compared to more than 150 JetBlue daily departures in both New York and Boston, it is likely that Southwest Airlines will not make a significant move to Europe in the foreseeable future.

Interest of China Eastern Airlines in the airline Alitalia

While Italy’s state-owned Italian rail company Ferrovie dello Stato (FS) continued to delay in presenting a rescue plan for struggling airline Alitalia, rumors evoke the interest of Chinese state company China Eastern Airlines to integrate capital into the italian airline.

Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), which leads the process of taking over the Italian national company under an extraordinary administration since May 2017, is looking to create a consortium composed of several companies that manage Alitalia. But the rail group said in a statement Wednesday that it needed more time to finalize this rescue details.

At a midweek parliamentary hearing, the special commissioners of the Italian Commission to administer Alitalia said that the main risk to Alitalia was the possibility that the airline would be liquidated if a rescue was not planned. In the next weeks. An extension of time is possible, but in very limited proportions, they estimate.

Last week, the British low-cost airline EasyJet withdrew from the talks, leaving Delta Air Lines and Ferrovie dello Stato again looking for a third partner, appearing on the scene of China Eastern Airlines interested in a 10% stake in Alitalia. Undoubtedly, the interest in relation to the visit of the Chinese President Xi Jinping to Rome last week and the full access of Italy to the new project of the Silk Road of China. Recall that the new coalition in power after the last elections of 2018 affirmed that the survival and stability of Alitalia are among its most important objectives. According to their wishes, most companies with deficits must remain under the control of the State. The Minister of Transport, Danilo Toninelli, said in July 2018 that 51% of Alitalia should remain in the hands of the Italians but with a strong investor on the side.

Italy is a very particular country, where laws and governments last very little. The bankruptcy commissioners have given an ultimatum: either decisions are made, or the company is liquidated. The problem is now the same as at the beginning: nobody wants to stay with an airline in which the state maintains a fundamental presence.

Those interested who went through Alitalia were Lufthansa who does not want to know anything about the plan proposed by the State of Italy. Easyjet has just been opened from the list of interested parties to inject capital. Only Delta Air Lines remains that should enter the new Alitalia with a participation of up to 15%.

Currently, there are shareholders for 30% of the capital, in the hands of Ferrovie dello Stato, with Delta AirLines with 15% extendable to 20, and with the Ministry of Finance, which would also invest in the troubled airline. Yesterday, the extraordinary commissioners of Alitalia sent Ferrovie dello Stato an ultimatum to close the industrial association agreement. The final deadline for making a decision was this 31 March 2019, but the long road to recovery of the Alitalia is almost like the first day, so the administrators have been forceful, if there is no decision, that the airline is liquidated.

Aeroparque pasa a categoría Cabotaje

Migration of regional flights to Ezeiza International Airport

According to resolution 476-E/2017 published in the Official Gazette, as of April 1, 2019, all international flights, except for services to and from Uruguay, must be transferred to the Ezeiza International Airport in order to decongest the Aeroparque Jorge Newbery and be able to provide a better quality service at both airports.

The transfer for the migration of the regional flights will mainly affect Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral Líneas Aéreas that as of April 1, 2019, the new programming from the Ezeiza International Airport becomes effective. The total number of Aerolineas / Austral flights from Aeroparque to Ezeiza are 38 daily frequencies, as part of the process of deregionalization of Aeroparque Jorge Newbery air station, which implies that only domestic flights will operate from that airport. Only Aeroparque will attend the regional route to Uruguay.

The process began in May 2018 when 50% of the international flights operating from Aeroparque Jorge Newbery were transferred to Ezeiza, now completing the measure ordered by the Government of Argentina, with the rest of the flights.

HUB Ezeiza

From Aerolíneas indicated that with the transfer the company will strengthen its international operations, enhancing connections between cities in the interior and neighboring countries with transatlantic destinations. The destinations that will be transferred to Ezeiza are nine frequencies.

With this transfer, Aerolíneas will boost the Hub Ezeiza. The company will thus improve the interconnection between flights arriving from the interior of the country and countries bordering those that go to the United States and Europe. Airlines will have flights to Ezeiza from Córdoba, Mendoza, Salta, Mar del Plata, Bariloche, El Calafate, Iguazú, Trelew, Rosario, Tucumán and Ushuaia, and from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Asunción, Curitiba, Florianópolis, Porto Alegre, Porto Seguro, Rio de Janeiro, San Pablo and Santiago de Chile. These flights are added to those already operating from the Ministro Pistarini airport: Bogotá, Cancún, Lima, Madrid, Miami, New York, Punta Cana, Rome and San Salvador de Bahía. In parallel, Airlines will add a daily flight from Montevideo to Ezeiza, also seeking passengers from across the Rio de la Plata for international destinations. The company reprogrammed the schedules of these flights so that, in most cases, there is a wait of less than 2.5 hours between the arrival of an internal or regional flight and the departure of the international. And vice versa.

The new Hub Ezeiza, will allow to deploy a new business model can sell fares to the final destination, with a better time offer and, therefore, a better service to the passenger. At the same time, it will allow the company to plan and expand its Aeroparque operation by easing air traffic. The expansion works that are being carried out in Ezeiza enhance this type of operation, highlighted in the company of national flag. A \ W

Ciclón Joaninha hits the island of the Indian Ocean and Rodrigues Island

Cyclone Joaninha de Cat-4 has crossed the Rodrigues Island in the Indian Ocean. The island of Rodrigues has been hit by tropical cyclone Joaninha. Strong winds and heavy rain lashed the small volcanic island 650 km east of Mauritius when the storm faded. At its closest point, the eye of the storm was about 80 km from the island, which is home to some 40,000 people. The cyclone advanced slowly, only moved around 15 km / h, which ensured that Rodrigues had a prolonged attack by the cyclone.

Rodrigues Island Airport Ltd. has been closed due to the passage of the Joaninha Cyclone. The winds at Port Mathurin, on the north coast, blew over 100 km / h for more than 33 hours. The highest recorded burst was 161 km / h. Nearly 200 mm of rain was reported from the system, but if the eye of the storm had touched the ground, the situation would have been even worse. In the center of the cyclone, the winds blew up to 250 km / h. The damage caused by the cyclone is still being evaluated, but it could be quite extensive.

Cyclone Joaninha is the second major cyclone to cross the island this year. In February 2019, Gelena, a cyclone of similar size and strength, passed close to the island and destroyed 90% of the island’s electricity grid. The damage from the February storm is estimated at around US$ 1 million. A \ W
