Virgin Australia approach 737 MAX
Virgin Australia countdown for first Boeing 737 MAX
Virgin Australia Airlines will soon receive its first Boeing 737 MAX plane. He has placed an order by eight Boeing 737-8 MAX (8) to the American factory The Boeing Company. The arrival of Boeing 737 MAX will also serve as a launch platform for new business and economic seats. The announcement marks a new chapter of the return of the Australian airline under the new direction of Bain Capital. Virgin Australia says that the 737 MAX will debut on its first programmed commercial route Cairns—Tokio on June 28, 2023.
The airline will incorporate additional airplanes from the second half of 2023, making the long trip from the Boeing assembly center in Renton, south of Seattle (WA), to Brisbane, Australia. «These airplanes will allow us to add capacity to the market in an extremely high demand moment, allowing more Australians to access great value and choice when they choose to fly», says the airline.
Calendar deliveries The first 737 MAX with the Libyan of Virgin Australia is scheduled to be delivered in April 2023 and take its first in June 2023. Two additional aircraft are scheduled to arrive in the quarter Julio-October, said the airline in its statement. The remaining five planes are scheduled to get from the fourth quarter (4Q2023).
Virgin has previously said that he intends to include the 737 MAX plane on high range national and international routes. One of them will be assigned to the new Cairns-Tokyo daily flights of Virgin, leaving three for key national routes. «He will do a great job for us for transcontinental flights, he will do a great job for us on more traditional short distance international routes», said Virgin Australia Group CEO, Jayne Hrdlicka.
Each of the Boeing 737-8 MAX aircraft will be crowned by a new executive class seat, although this is expected to be the same design that is being tested in two of the Boeing 737-800 of the airline that currently circulate through Virgin’s domestic network. The new seats are full of praise for being comfortable and well equipped, that add a restraint and a storage pocket that is missing in the current executive class, as well as AC/USB current and a practical support for tablets and smartphones.
«Our clients love them, and our crew also loves them and Max 8 is a modern low fuel consumption replacement for their 737-800», said Jayne Hrdlicka. The new economic seat concept offers some additional leg space thanks to a slightly thinner profile, with a folding device support for the passenger tablet or smartphone and a practical near USB port.
Flying in the Max will be safe thanks to exhaustive tests after two fatal accidents and a global grounding probably make it the safest plane in the world today.

AW | 2023 03 24 14:44 | AIRLINES / AVIATION ORGANISMS / GOVERNMENT
Ultra Air suspends some flights
Airline reduces its flight programming Low cost had requested financial assistance from the government
The impact of the aviation crisis that Colombia is going through continues with a new chapter with the Ultra Air airline that has announced the suspension of ticket sale and the cancellation of its flight programming. Ultra Air has canceled several of its flights on Thursday. In addition, he paused the sale of aerial tickets until April 30, 2023 to reorganize their operations and the Superintendence of Transportation adopted measures to prevent economic problems that affect that company to end up affecting their customers and suppliers. «We continue working to obtain new resources from our investors and bankers, because JetSMART’s departure from the signed agreement can force us to adjust the operation», said Ultra Air in a statement.
Civil Aeronautics of Colombia (Aerocivil), the Aviation Supervisory Agency in Colombia has issued a statement by issuing measures “because the airline presents low liquidity, which hinders the commitment to short term obligations, generating a risk of non compliance with non compliance with its creditors. The Ministry of Transportation demanded that Ultra Air present how its daily operation, routes, aircraft and crew of each trip will continue, in addition to guaranteeing the flights issued in case of suspending its operations. The Aerocivil in charge of the operation of the aeronautical market, explained in a statement that “it found that the Ultra Air company continues to fly, with a partial reduction in its capacity for technical reasons. We maintain priority follow-up to the situation generated by the effects that could have been presented in the last hours, derived from the operations of the Ultra Air airline”.
The company’s president, William Shaw, has expressed that the financial situation has exceeded liabilities. “The company’s financial indicators are not very different from those of many airlines in the world in this last year. Viva’s situation has put us under a lot of pressure with current suppliers, they are nervous, many of them are asking for fuel prepaid, prepaid of services and others”.
The low cost airline, which has routes among ten Colombian cities and an 8% participation of the Colombian market in just one year of operation, has faces economic difficulties for several weeks. After some journalistic statements about the delicate situation of the Ultra Air company, the airline issued a statement by denialing the information. «Ultra Air is backed by solid investors who believe in the company’s project and are aware of the current challenges of the sector».
Ultra Air’s problems are framed in a series of broader movements in the aeronautical sector in Colombia. This Wednesday 03/22 was known that the possibility that Chilean airline JetSMART Airlines Group, the third largest in that country, bought Ultra Air. In a document he explained that, after analyzing the details of the operation, he gave up his intention to buy Ultra Air. That decision was given the same day that the Aerocivil approved the Avianca-Viva Air fusion, while everything is said about synergy, waiting for a final opinion of approval and complementation of requirements by Avianca. Ultra Air opposed that integration and in October 2022 Avianca denounced it criminally for procedural fraud, pointing it out of opposing its integration with the low cost Viva Air with false information. Ultra Air argued before the Aerocivil that these two airlines operated together, defining routes and rates irregularly.
Investors The low cost Colombian airline Ultra Air announced Thursday that it seeks resources from investors and bankers to guarantee its operation, after JetSMART Airlines Group gave up his interest in buying it, while suspending the sale of tickets to reorganize its operation.
Ultra Air, which has a fleet of five Airbus A320-200ceo (5) aircraft and covers five domestic destinations, faces financial difficulties due to the increase in fuel costs, the exchange rate and inflation, which recently led to the also low cost airline Air to suspend operations.
Ultra Air has reported that on Wednesday 22/03 two of its aircraft resorted to maintenance, which forced it to reschedule its operations. The airline did not reveal the capital it needs to guarantee its operation and its continuity in the Colombian market.

TAP returns surplus
TAP returns profitability after six years of losses
The Portugal Government has had to inject between 2020-2021 a total of € 1.6 billion Euros as economic assistance to the Portuguese airline TAP Portugal. Precisely when the scandals hit the public airline of Portugal, exactly when the government has forced the general director and the president to leave, the management begins to give results and Tap Portugal has announced that, for the first time since 2017, it has given benefits, generating € 21 million of profits.
The losses generated in 2022 reached the € 65.6 million euros that the company threw in 2022. This year the airline billed € 3.5 billion euros. Christine Ourmières Widener, the acting general director, said that «the implementation of the restructuring plan applied this year in its entirety has generated operational benefits that are the largest of the company».
Currently, the airline is in a strange political crisis, having paid inadmissibility of half a million euros to an executive who had been signed as the new director of the Government’s treasure. The voluntary departure of the official should not have involved compensation, said the public inspection of the State, so the Government requested the cessation of Cristine Ourmières, who continues to act until the incorporation of a new general director.
The airline, privatized a few years ago, was again nationalized in 2020 and now intends to be sold again. The three large European groups, IAG, Air France-KLM Group and Lufthansa Group have expressed interest in arriving at an agreement to control the Portuguese national airline.
