South African Airways returns 09/2021

After restructuring, it will restart operations

AW-SAA_7319003

South African Airways (SAA) will return to commercial air operations after almost a year. The airline has confirmed that it will resume flights on September 23, 2021. It has also established the opening of reservations and travel credit exchanges as of 09/06. After an administration process that had put the South African airline at risk in the midst of an unprecedented crisis in the history of commercial aviation, South African Airways, entered a crisis not only economic but also by the pandemic, they came to drag to the company on the brink of bankruptcy. The airline had been put into Administration in December 2019, while the situation of the flight crisis caused by the global virus, complicated its situation. The flights were interrupted in September 2020, entering a long process of restructuring and financial rescue by the Government of South Africa. The airline came out of the business rescue at the end of April 2021, with the foundations laid for a return to operations. With the airline’s solvent and control turned over to the Board of Directors and executive team, it was only a matter of time before a relaunch was given the green light. Acting CEO Thomas Kgokolo commented on the relaunch, stating: «After months of diligent work, we are delighted that SAA is resuming service and we look forward to welcoming our loyal passengers on board and flying the South African flag. We remain a carrier. safe and complying with COVID-19 protocols».

The airline says its initial flights will operate from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Accra, Kinshasa, Harare, Lusaka and Maputo. It plans to restart more routes and expand its network as market conditions improve. Thomas Kgokolo added: «There is a deep sense of excitement within the SAA Team as we prepare for takeoff, with a common purpose: to rebuild and maintain a profitable airline that once again takes a leadership role among local, continental and international airlines».

Following the exit from the Administration process, the SAA team has been working hard to prepare the airline to restart operations. At the beginning of August 2021, the airline reported having obtained its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) for national and international flights. Under the renewed AOC, South African Airways has listed only eight aircraft to re-establish its commercial aviation operations: A319-100 (3), A320-200 (2), A330-300 (1), A340-600 (2). All aircraft are under lease, while the two A340-600s (2) are owned by the company. The cleanup of the airline has established a new beginning with a smaller and more homogeneous fleet across Airbus.

South African Airways keert terug 09/2021

Flybondi to add fourth Boeing 737-800

Flybondi will intensify operations towards the 2021-2022 season

AW-Flybondi-Jet

Argentina’s low cost airline, Flybondi Líneas Aéreas will incorporate a fourth Boeing 737-800 aircraft in September 2021 as announced to expand cabotage frequencies as part of the start of the summer season and the intensification of flights in Argentina. In good harmony with the Government, Flybondi brings more planes to Argentina and expands its offer of flights at Aeroparque.

After a year 2020 marked by the paralysis of flights due to the global health crisis, the company is committed to increasing operations in Argentina from the incorporation of a fourth Boeing 737-800 configured with 189 seats that will arrive in the country in the middle from 09/2021. The CEO of Flybondi, Esteban Tossutti, also expressed that in early 2022 the airline will add a fifth aircraft with the prospect of restoring Mercosur regional operations to Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.

Flybondi will continue to maintain a low price policy allowing a differentiation between 30 and 40 percent with respect to the competition, and has expressed that the airline will continue to expand by incorporating more personnel in Argentina.

Flybondi was founded in 2016 and began its operations in Argentina on January 26, 2018. Since its inception and after the economic and political ups and downs, the company has had an investment of US$ 95 million. Each aircraft of the company implies the support of 80 to 100 direct jobs, while for every million passengers, the airline has generated the creation of at least 3,000 indirect jobs in the provinces to which it flies. Before the pandemic, Flybondi reached 3 million people transported. Of that total, at least 500,000 people had the experience of getting on a plane for the first time to complete a flight. Currently, Flybondi continues the pilot training in the Aerolíneas Argentinas simulator located at the Ezeiza Airport to revalidate the crews’ permits.

Airpark

The Flybondi executive acknowledged that the Aeroparque opens up a much wider market, enabling growth without taking space away from any airline. Flybondi migrated its hub to Jorge Newbery Airport in April 2021, which has allowed the airline to quickly recover demand after having concluded operations at El Palomar Airport. From the company they remarked that there is a joint work with the authorities of the commercial aviation activity, in addition to highlighting the harmony with the organizations of the sector to continue bringing airplanes to the country. «We have not had any type of inconvenience. We do and have done everything that They ask us for the ORSNA, Airports Argentina 2000, the ANAC. We fulfilled all the requirements, always aiming to return to having the 5 planes that we operated before the pandemic. With the moorings we have not had problems either: the three that we requested were granted to us. We are talking to have a fourth mooring. We understand that we will not have problems. We have a constant work with the officials on duty. There are work situations between the public and the private: for example, everything that is brakes, tires, paint We do it at the FADEA factory, in Córdoba. The maintenance of our engines is carried out by Boeing mechanics who are homologated in Ezeiza», he said Esteban Tossutti.

«Aeroparque is another window. You capture another type of passenger in the provinces. Until July we were flying 90 weekly flights. Already this month we began to carry out about 134. We cover 13 national destinations: Buenos Aires, Bariloche, Corrientes, Córdoba, Jujuy, Mendoza, Neuquén, Posadas, Iguazú, Salta, Santiago del Estero, Trelew and Tucumán. With the fourth plane we are thinking of increasing more frequencies to these destinations. Now the fifth plane will be more designed for the return of regional flights. We have four destinations in Brazil: Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis, Porto Alegre and Sao Paulo. And, in addition, services to Paraguay and Uruguay, the latter temporary», specified the CEO of the low cost airline.

PreTrip

The low cost Flybondi has confirmed, like JetSmart Airlines Argentina, it is joining the Previaje program, an initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Nation that aims to promote and enhance national tourism and other related activities, granting credits equivalent to 50 % of tourist purchases made by passengers until December 31, 2021 to travel in 2022.

From Flybondi they expressed their approval regarding the Government’s incentives regarding support programs for the aviation and tourism industry: “We are very happy to join this incentive program to promote national tourism. After the impact generated by the pandemic, it is essential that synergy can be made between the public and private spheres to continue developing tourism in Argentina and that more people can enjoy this beautiful country that offers so many alternatives when traveling. From Flybondi, we will have the best prices and the best equipment that provides the freedom to fly”, expressed Federico Pastori, Head of Marketing.

Flybondi perspectives

Flybondi specifies that there is a market for all airlines that fly from Aeroparque, while the equation is positive for the airline, allowing it to absorb the customers of the ex-Latam Airlines Argentina. By the summer of 2022, the company will incorporate the fifth Boeing 737-800 aircraft with the prospect of increasing market share by expanding the service model with first-time users, increasing employment and passenger traffic in the country.

Pressure for control of the Brazilian market
Brazilian Congress analyzes possible purchase of Latam

Azul Linhas Aéreas would be willing to buy the entire Latam Airlines Group and then sell its operations in other countries. With the repeated announcements, Azul Airlines shares are on the rise after the Wall Street Journal cited sources who say that the airline is talking with creditors of Latam Airlines to buy the operations of its rival in Brazil. According to the publication, Azul would be open to buying the entire company and then selling operations in other countries, as well as being willing to enter into a Joint Venture with Latam to complement its current business in Brazil.

The companies spoke of a possible agreement at the beginning of the bankruptcy process, but Latam Airlines interrupted the negotiations because the owners of the Chilean company did not want to give up control of the group. The region’s largest airline group has said it has no intention of selling its Brazilian operation and expects to present its reorganization plan this year. Azul Airlines, for its part, is in a good position to expand, currently registering the highest level of cash in its history and taking advantage of the rebound in demand as the closures decreed by the pandemic are lifted.

National Congress

The Executive Director of Azul Linhas Aéreas, John Rodgerson, sent a message to the Brazilian Deputies who are analyzing the possible purchase operation to validate the approvals regarding the existence of a dominant position in the monopoly market in Brazil. The executive highlighted the development of the national airline industry, part of which was stimulated by Azul’s investments in recent years. “Deputies should look at this [Azul’s acquisition of Latam] in this context. If we look at other countries in the world, Air Canada has 70% of the Canadian air market, Avianca has 70% of the Colombian market, LAN has 85% of the Chilean market. You should not think of this as something harmful and look at the opportunities”, said the CEO of Azul Airlines.

The Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies anticipated a move by the air operator and on Friday 08/20 held a public hearing to discuss the scope of an eventual agreement. The request was presented by Congressman Eduardo Bismarck, who is concerned about the impact that less competition in the sector would have on Brazilian consumers. «It is probable that prices will rise due to the lack of competitors. It should be remembered that prices today are below those of recent years, especially due to the crisis in the sector», said Eduardo Bismarck.

ANAC Brazil

For its part, the sector authority is already setting its position in the controversy. «We are not afraid of an eventual M&A process in this market. Of course, this goes against our agenda of promoting greater competition, but we understand that this is a solution that the market has to provide», said Ronei Glanzmann, Director of the National Secretariat of Civil Aviation of Brazil (ANAC). «We follow this process, but it is eminently private and the government cannot interfere out of respect for the constitutional principles of economic freedom», said Ronei Glanzmann.

Latam Group

Latam airlines Group has expressed denying any hostile attempt to seize its operations in Brazil. The company has issued a statement in which it indicated that it is currently preparing to deliver its restructuring plan under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Law to be presented before the Judicial Branch of the Southern District of New York by September 2021, with an exit from the competition towards the end of 4Q2021. Latam Airlines Brasil, meanwhile, continues its recovery plan with new routes, new bases and contracts. The airline confirms that it does not intend to dispose of its operations in Brazil, flatly denying this January 23/08 that it intends to dispose of its operations in Brazil, given the interest of its main competitor, Azul Airlines, indicating that there were ongoing talks with creditors of Latam Airlines to buy its Brazilian subsidiary.

Azul Airlines has been seeking interest in acquiring the Latam group or its subsidiary in Brazil for months, but so far no confirmation has emerged, while Azul continues to force the situation to take control of the bankrupt airline looking for ways to pressure to creditors to become a future mega-company in the region, but attempts to do so may be limited.

Pressão pelo controle do mercado brasileiro
Congresso brasileiro analisa possível compra de Latam

AW-Azul-Latam_Isologotype

AW | 2021 08 24 16:57 | AIRLINES

Philippine Airlines devuelve aviones y aplaza entregas

Restructuring at Philippine Airlines

Philippine Airlines returns planes and postpones deliveries

Philippine Airlines, controlled by billionaire Lucio Tan, has returned two of its existing jets to their lessor in July 2021 and has postponed deliveries of new passenger jets as continued losses significantly strain the flag carrier’s liquidity position. The airline posted a net loss of ₱ 16.6 billion Philippine Pesos/US$ 330.9 million Dollars in the six months ended June 30, 2021, compared to a net loss of ₱ 20.7 billion a year ago, its parent company said. PAL Holdings on Monday 08/23 in a filing with the Philippine Stock Exchange. Revenues plummeted 51% to ₱ 18 billion pesos during the period, reflecting the lingering impact of pandemic-induced travel restrictions.

«The group’s liquidity situation became more critical in 2020 and 2021 due to severely weak passenger sales and revenue as an adverse effect of the Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 outbreak and measures taken by governments Filipinos and foreigners have caused disruptions to PAL’s passenger operations, resulting in the temporary suspension and limited operations of its flights for both domestic and international routes», the company said in a statement.

To ensure business continuity, the company is embarking on a restructuring plan, as the airline’s declining revenue has put significant pressure on the group’s liquidity position. The total capital deficiency stood at ₱ 86.2 billion Pesos at the end of June 2021. Before the restructuring plan, PAL has based on the bridge financing of its main shareholder, has carried out a staff reduction program, has implemented cost reduction measures and has deferred payments through the patience of landlords, lenders and suppliers. In addition to returning two planes to lessors in July 2021, the airline has delayed delivery of new planes that were originally scheduled last year and this year to between 2026 and 2030.

Lucio Tan, who emerged as a controlling shareholder of PAL Airlines in 1995 when he was appointed Chairman, regained control of PAL in 2014 after purchasing San Miguel Corp.’s majority stake in the airline. With a net worth of ₱ 3.3 billion, 86-year-old Lucio Tan was ranked the third richest person in the Philippines on the World Billionaires List published in April 2021. His business empire encompasses tobacco, spirits, banking and property.

AW | 2021 08 23 21:08 | AIRLINES

Nueva aerolínea Fly Air41 recibe certificado operador aéreo

AW-Fly Air41_Isologotype

Fly Air41 is born in Croatia

The airline Fly Air41 has received the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) from the Croatian Civil Aviation Agency (CCAA) on August 18, 2021. After successfully completing the demonstration flight, the CCAA awarded the operation certificate for execute commercial flight operations on Wednesday 08/25.

Fly Air41 Airways is a newly launched Croatian airline. The airline is founded this year, that is, 2021, as a sister airline with Sundair. It is based in Zagreb, Croatia. Transport vacation travelers to relaxing and beautiful destinations in the Mediterranean, the Red Sea and the Canary Islands via German bases like Leipzig. Along with holiday flights, the upstart also offers special and charter flights.

The first commercial flight was scheduled for August 20, 2021 on the Leipzig-Corfu route. Initially, Fly Air41 will use the Airbus A319 fleet. According to Marco Roselló, owner of the airline, the company will add two A320-200CEOs (2) in September 2021. The startup will offer ACMI services for Sundair airline along with charter operations for tour operators.

The Airbus A319-100, 9A-BER will be stationed in Leipzig and will fly to Sundair. The aircraft’s livery is identical to Sundair’s, and it has the Sundair logo on its tail. In a press release, Sundair stated that the only Fly Air41 aircraft would offer leisure charter flights to serve existing Sundair guests, with the first flight scheduled to Kerkyra. Customers can book their tickets as well as package deals for all departures to Leipzig.

The German charter airline Sundair planned to launch Air41 in late April or early May 2021 and was working on obtaining the certificate. The Air Operator Certificate is the maximum for each air operation to use aircraft for commercial purposes. It requires staff, financial resources and a system to guarantee it. Sundair will operate continuously from various cities in Germany using seven Airbus aircraft, while Air41 will operate flights between Germany and Croatia. The new Croatian airline, Fly Air41, will provide a seasonal connection between Dusseldorf and Berlin in Germany and Brac in Croatia. Vacation packages for Croatia will soon arrive through partnerships with commercial companies, including German tour operators Schauinsland-Reisen.

Fly Air41 will not be Sundair’s subsidiary, as the two airlines are more likely to be sister airlines and continue to operate separately. Fly Air41 is intended to resemble the livery worn by Sundair aircraft and will have the Sundair logo on the tail fin. As strong growth is anticipated due to lively interest, Fly Air41 will seek aircraft for private and commercial customers, along with crew and charter leases. The airline is looking forward to operating aircraft management. Fly Air41 aims to capture tourism-related market niches by partnering with major tour operators, operating charter routes, and supporting the country’s tourism development in the coming days.

Uz blagdanske letove, početnik nudi i posebne i čarter letove.
