AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aerolíneas will reduce state subsidies

Aerolíneas Argentinas foresees a strong cut of subsidies from the Argentine State

Starting next year, Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral Líneas Aéreas will reduce subsidies even though they will not have balanced their accounts by 2019. The State Contributions, which will be called Capital Contributions, a concept that the Aerolíneas Group expects to receive some AR$ 1,600 million pesos, some US$ 40 million according to the average exchange rate projected for next year. The 2019 Budget includes a capital contribution of US$ 40 million, against the US$ 180 million that the firm will need this year to operate.

At first glance this would imply a very strong reduction in relation to the numbers with which it will close 2018. The original pattern was US$ 90 million for this year and no contribution for 2019. However, due to the devaluation and the price increase of fuel, until September 2018, Aerolíneas Argentinas had already received US$ 152 million.

Such is the case that the President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Luis Malvido, confirmed that the objective of zero deficit initially planned for 2019 will be delayed until 2020 and explained that the rise of the dollar in relation to fuel has affected the established scenario. «The macro situation affected us. The rise of the fuel hit us very hard. And we are already forecasting for the first quarter of 2019 a load factor 10% lower than the first quarter of this year. It is a cyclical situation, but it leads us to question the profitability of some routes. But it will be a complex quarter in terms of cash», explained the CEO of Aerolíneas. A \ W

Hacia una crisis transporte aéreo Rusia

Resultado de imagen para Russian Federation airlines

AW | 2018 10 22 12:12 | AIRLINES / AIR TRAFFIC

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Towards an air transport crisis in Russia

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation will order the transfer of Russian airline reservation systems to local reservation servers

The project proposed by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation on the transfer of all servers and databases to reserve and sell airline tickets through Russia to the borders of the country by 2020 can lead to the closure of Russian airlines, or at the beginning of a long transfer to other reservation systems (from 2 to 4 years). The cause of the possible problems is the inconsistency of the Russian suppliers with the requirements of the carriers and the gap in the interaction with foreign partners. This was reported by Vedomosti, citing a letter from the Director General of Siberia Airlines (member of the S7 Group) Vladimir Obedkov, sent to the Association of Air Transport Operators, Head of Vladimir Tasun.

Both Aeroflot Russian Airlines and S7 Airlines are part of global aviation alliances (Sky Team and One World respectively) and, therefore, by implementing the bill and switching to Russian suppliers, they will not be able to interact with their alliance partners – Russia The operators do not have the necessary functionality to work in the alliance, and its development may take approximately one year. According to the estimates of the Siberian CEO, the loss of S7 when transferring servers and databases to Russia can be up to 5 billion rubles (US $ 75.9 million) per year.

Currently, the three largest airlines in Russia use the services of foreign reserve system providers: Aeroflot works with American Saber, Group S7 is currently in the process of transition from Swiss SITA to Spanish Amadeus, which already uses the Ural Airlines All the other Russian airlines cooperate with the Russian Sirena Trave l.

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has previously developed a project, according to which all servers and databases that allow to book and sell tickets for aircraft within Russia must be located in the territory of the Russian Federation before the beginning of 2020. The provider system must also be registered in Russia as a legal entity.

The Russian authorities are actively promoting the idea of transferring the systems of Russian companies to servers located in the country, physically and legally. Previously, the airlines were able to make exceptions for themselves of the laws that required it, arguing that it was necessary to work with foreign partners and possible long-term problems in the sale of tickets when switching to Russian suppliers.

Resultado de imagen para Ministry of Transport of the Russian FederationМинистерство транспорта Российской Федерации будет заказывать перевод российских резервирующих систем на локальные серверы резервирования

AW | 2018 10 20 11:58 | AIRLINES / MRO

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

African airlines with their own MRO

African airlines turn to maintenance and repair to get new revenue

African airlines are turning to maintenance and repair (MRO) as a new source of income and a means to reduce operating costs.

Ethiopian Airlines, South African Airways and Kenya Airways have concluded agreements with global aviation players in recent months to provide maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services on the continent. However, only the Ethiopian company is profitable. The other two airlines, while on the road to recovery according to their latest results, have been struggling with a drop in performance.

Last week, Ethiopian Maintenance and Engineering Services, the continent’s largest aircraft maintenance center, repaired a GEnx engine, which powers the Boeing 787, after Rolls-Royce and South African Airways Technical (SAAT) opened the first facility. storage of rental engines of the continent. in Africa. Kenya Airways Technical, which covers the maintenance of the Boeing and Embraer aircraft, already offers third-party services with online and heavy maintenance.

GEnx repair workshops

Regional aviation players ask for more funds to improve aviation security. Ethiopia joined the GEnx repair shop league in the global MRO network of the engine manufacturer, General Electric, opening it up to new sources of revenue, especially for airlines flying the Dreamliner.

The Addis Ababa facility is the first MRO service provider in Africa with the ability to perform modular level repairs at GEnx, the latest GE engines that power the most technologically advanced commercial aircraft, the Boeing 787.

The GEnx is the «horsepower engine of the 21st century» for medium and large capacity long and long range aircraft, thanks to its enormous improvements in efficiency and low cost of ownership, says General Electric.

Ethiopian Maintenance & Engineering Services performs the maintenance of the structure of the aircraft, engine and components and the line with the approval of the Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority. «We are making additional investments to improve our ability to overhaul the GEnx engine by mid-2019». This newly developed capability will allow us to review the GEnx engines not only of our Boeing 787 fleet but also of other airlines in the world, «he said. Executive Director of Ethiopian Airlines Group, Tewolde GebreMariam. Its basic maintenance facilities are approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Repair Station PART 145 for the maintenance of the Boeing 737, 757, 767, 777, 787; Bombadier Q400 and the Airbus 350. The facility based in Addis Ababa also has the approval of Part 145 of the European Aviation Safety Agency for the maintenance of both the base and the line for the Boeing 737NG, 757, 767 and 777. The airline has MRO agreements with African airlines, including Congo Airlines, Guinea Airlines and Asky Airlines.

MRO Expense

According to ICF International, a global consulting and technology services firm, the cost of African airlines in MRO is expected to reach 6,000 million dollars by 2025 due to the expected influx of new aircraft that require new skills and technical capabilities and more. Sophisticated African carriers spent US$ 2.5 billion in 2016 for maintenance and repairs. The Rolls-Royce rental engine storage facility at the Oliver Tambo International Airport in South Africa in Johannesburg is capable of storing a full range of Rolls-Royce engines to meet the requirements of airline and commercial aircraft customers based or that operate in Africa. It can accommodate all types of Trent engines, including the Trent 7,000, which will soon power the Airbus A330NEO.

Within Africa, Air Mauritius will take the first delivery of the A330, while Uganda Airlines, which has signed a memorandum for the delivery of two A330-800NEO’s in 2021, is considered a possible customer for SAAT.

Rolls-Royce said it will provide technical training to SAAT personnel to allow them to work on the stored engines and provide inspection and in-flight services to Rolls-Royce customers on the continent. «We have worked closely with South African Airways for several years and we are delighted to work with them on this initiative», said Kevin Evans, vice president of Rolls-Royce.

Acting executive director of SAAT, Wellington Nyuswa, said the new agreement is an income generating opportunity, as well as a means to help the airline become «a world-class MRO company».

Association

In the middle of this year, Kenya Airways signed an agreement with Boeing so that the national airline obtains access to the global network of parts and services at the request of Boeing, becoming the first airline in the continent to have access to the Consumable and Expandable Service of Boeing Boeing will provide parts and services to the Kenya Airways Boeing fleet of 14 B737 and eight Dreamliners.

Under the agreement, which covers more than 18,700 pieces, Boeing will deliver materials and services that will maintain the maintenance operations of the KQ fleet operating at optimum efficiency during its five-year implementation period. The KQ fleet requires up to 35,700 pieces, which will all be included in the phased arrangement over the five-year period.

Kenya Airways Technical, which covers the maintenance of the Boeing and Embraer aircraft, already offers third-party services with online and heavy maintenance. It also offers a wide range of repairs and component reviews, while allowing third-party customers to enter service support, training and technical services for other airlines.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Air Belgium in financial difficulties

Air Belgium has begun to feel the effects of the signs of the increase of the crude and the climatic effects in Europe

The problems for Air Belgium have started after the breakup with Utour, a wholesaler that provided most of its client base. Cobalt Air has fallen, Flybe is on the ropes and the Belgian airline Air Belgium now depends on what its shareholders decide.

Air Belgium has broken its relationship with Utour, a wholesaler that provided most of its client base. Air Belgium urgently gathered its shareholders to see if it would dissolve or if it followed the airline’s continuity despite being in a bad situation. The Belgian company said: «the managers are going to take the appropriate measures to maintain a viable business plan. The shareholders were informed of the situation and the action plan that the management intends to carry out. Therefore, no reason has been seen to stop operating».

Air Belgium is a small, but long-haul airline, which has four Airbus A340 aircraft. Air Belgium aircraft, although relatively new, have a higher fuel consumption than its competitors, mainly because they deploy four engines. In fact, Iberia is in a process of replacement by two-engine aircraft, much more efficient and economical. They are currently operating a route between Charleroi airport, south of Brussels, and Hong Kong. The rest are charter flights hired by various companies, to varied destinations. Despite the decision to continue, the management has indicated that it will meet again with the shareholders to know how the efforts are going to continue. Utour is a tour operator for which Air Belgium operated and has decided not to continue working with this provider. A\W

Air Belgium in financiële moeilijkheden

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

New investors in PLUNA

Pluna Líneas Aéreas would re-emerge from the hand of new legal proceedings

A Panamanian investment company has purchased the outstanding shares of Pluna Lineas Aéreas Uruguayas, a former Uruguayan flag carrier and, through arbitration, plans to seek financial compensation for Uruguay’s alleged role in the elimination of the airline.

An investor named Caballero Verde S. de RL recently took control of Latin American Regional Aviation Holding Corp. (LARAH Corp.), a company based in the Republic of Panama that owned 75% of the shares of Pluna Líneas Aéreas. In turn, Chorus Aviation were the previous owners of Larah Corp., three former executives of Leadgate, a defunct private equity (PE) company and other international investors. Leadgate took control of Pluna in 2007, but lost its stake in the airline when the Uruguayan government took control of the airline with financial problems in 2012 and then liquidated it.

Caballero Verde S. de RL bought the participation of each former owner and now owns Larah Corp. The next planned step of the company is to take advantage of an investment treaty between Panama and Uruguay to argue that the Uruguayan government played a central role in the Disappearance of Pluna in 2012. Caballero expects to soon file a legal complaint that officially begins a process described in the treaty, giving both parties six months to negotiate an agreement. If an agreement is not reached, the case will go to international arbitration. In this way they will challenge Uruguay for the disappearance of the airline in a clear litigation of interests. Xiamen Airlines dialoga con Airbus

Xiamen Airlines tiene más de 170 aviones Boeing. (Mike Siegel / The Seattle Times)

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Xiamen Airlines talks with Airbus

The old Boeing customer in China is talking to Airbus

Xiamen Airlines, an exclusive operator of Boeing aircraft for more than 30 years, is in talks with Airbus amid growing trade tensions between Beijing and the United States.

A Chinese airline that has been the exclusive operator of Boeing aircraft for more than 30 years is in talks with Airbus for a possible purchase of an airplane, amid growing commercial tensions between Beijing and the US, According to people familiar with the subject.

The executives of Xiamen Airlines, which are majority owned by state-owned Southern Southern Airlines, met with a high-powered Airbus delegation that visited China from Europe last month to advance the negotiations, said the people, who asked not to be Identified because the process is not public Xiamen is predominantly interested in the far-reaching version of Airbus A321 narrow body aircraft, they said, although the talks are still at an early stage and the size of a possible order has not been established. Xiamen, based in southeastern China, currently has no plans to buy Airbus aircraft.

If canceled, an Airbus purchase would be a blow to Boeing, which assured Xiamen last year as a launch customer for the latest variant of its best-selling 737 MAX aircraft, a direct competitor to the longer-range A320. It also highlights the risks of President Donald Trump’s great effort to reduce China’s rise as a global economic rival. Boeing has tried to avoid getting entangled in the growing gap between the US and China, after having been initially labeled as a possible target for higher tariffs.

The talks between Xiamen and Airbus began informally around May, when commercial tensions increased, according to people. The debates gained momentum in September, when Airbus senior executives, including Chief Executive Tom Enders and new CEO Guillaume Faury visited China, they said.

During the trip, Airbus executives also met with Chinese clients to rekindle the prospects of a possible US$ 18 billion deal, Bloomberg reported at the time, citing people familiar with the visit. While a final agreement for that transaction can not be reached in time, China is eager to file an order at an inaugural import and export fair in November, where the government is expected to reveal a series of agreements to demonstrate purchasing power. and the weight of the nation. in global commerce.

The Xiamen talks are separate from this, the people said. While the airline had been in contact with Airbus in the past, it only began to seriously consider the European blueprint maker as the trade war intensified, they said. The airline has been reluctant to lose the cost advantage of operating a fleet of aircraft from a single manufacturer, and may ask leasing companies to assist with a purchase, depending on the number of aircraft involved.

A spokesman for Airbus declined to comment on whether the talks with Xiamen were ongoing. The National Development and Reform Commission of China is the body that would have to approve any airplane order.

Xiamen «has been and is a big customer» for Boeing, vice president of marketing, Randy Tinseth, said in an interview on Friday in a meeting of the Asia-Pacific Airlines Association in Jeju, South Korea. «I do not know what his plans are», he said.

Xiamen has used Boeing aircraft since it began as a regional carrier within mainland China in the 1980s. It operated 737 before expanding into long distance routes with the 787 Dreamliner in 2015. The airline currently has more than 170 Boeing aircraft. At the Paris Air Show 2017, Xiamen ordered the 737 MAX 10 from Boeing and said it intended to raise its total fleet to 280 by the end of the decade.

China has become a battlefield for the two aircraft titans as they seek to govern an aviation market that is expected to become the largest in the world at the beginning of the next decade. The government, which negotiates its aircraft agreements through a central purchasing group, generally divides the orders among the aircraft manufacturers to meet its rapid expansion objectives.

But the commercial war brings an added dimension. China’s leverage when it comes to tariffs is limited because it does not matter as much about the US as it sells. However, the second largest economy in the world has other levers that it can pull, from regulatory obstacles for US companies in China to obstacles to US foreign policy objectives. A \ W

Aerolíneas continuará con déficit en 2019

AW-700001089

AW | 2018 10 19 12:19 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aerolíneas Argentinas will continue deficit in 2019

The CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas Luis Malvido expressed that the airline postpones its zero deficit

Failure to meet the goal of zero deficit is paid by the rise of fuel and devaluation, since it increased costs and caused a fall in the sale of tickets abroad, as well as conditioned the renewal of the fleet to agreements with the aeronautical guilds ; but ruled out that the arrival of low cost airlines had an impact on the accounting result. As well

The President of Aerolíneas Argentinas, has informed that the flag company will not be able to meet the zero deficit foreseen for the year 2019 due to the rise in fuel and the increase in the exchange rate. Luis Malvido said in statements to the press at the Idea Colloquium that he will need another year to reach that goal. He also acknowledged that this year the deficit will be greater than last year and that next year they will be able to resume the zero deficit target that they had originally foreseen for 2019. «This year we had a good expectation of continuing to lower the subsidies that come of the State, but the panorama changed, mainly by the prices of the fuel that is paid in dollars. In the second half of the year we had two impacts, with the devaluation that caused the sale of the tickets to the exterior and cabotage, where the fare is in pesos, the costs are in dollars and went up», said the CEO of Aerolíneas Argentinas

Aircraft Revolution

The impact that the arrival of low cost airlines to the Argentine market has not greatly affected, the President of Aerolíneas Argentinas said that «for us to have a competition like the one we are having, it is a great challenge. We have a very good product, very powerful, we are the company that has more frequencies, which flies to more destinations and has the highest punctuality index in the market, which continues to place us as the company to which most of the the Argentines, which puts us in a privileged position. In the same way that also poses the challenge of competing in prices and that makes us work hard to promote promotions, competitive prices and focus that offer on new passengers so that they also choose us. Although he admitted that the decrease in the average the prices of the tickets due to the incursion of the low cost and the promotions that are taking place can complicate the situation, he assured that «we bet on the volume to be able to balance, for that reason we are aiming that every day there are more Argentines flying».

On the other hand, he conditioned the renewal of the fleet of Austral, as well as that of the international flights of Aerolíneas Argentinas «to the negotiation that we are maintaining with the guilds, because of that negotiation depends the future that we will have to establish for the company. They have made great progress with Austral and if the talks end as we think we will soon be moving forward in the renewal of the Airlines fleet».

Strategic plan

The President of the Aerolíneas Argentinas Group, Luis Malvido, presented the company’s strategic plan for the next three years before 200 leaders of the organization of the Idea Colloquium.

The four pillars on which the strategy is based are sustainability, the development of the network, excellence in service, and adherence to processes and transparency; all under the umbrella of security as an essential value of the operation. The strategy reveals 8 critical objectives, which are translated into 18 initiatives, which will be reflected in 66 projects, all of them immediately starting execution. The critical objectives that underpin the plan are: increase revenues, make the fleet more efficient, gain competitiveness in costs, increase the efficiency of human capital, improve commercial competitiveness, improve the overall travel experience, and evolve towards a digital company.

In relation to the context in which the plan is presented, Luis Malvido said: «The market scenario in Argentina has changed and puts us under pressure to gain competitiveness and continue to be chosen by our passengers. customers, but also to improve the way we do things, with this north we will be working, because it is up to us to maintain our leadership in the market».
