American cancels Assistants licenses
American Airlines cancels voluntary Flight Attendant licenses
American Airlines has told the remaining 3,300 Flight Attendants on voluntary leave to return in November or December 2021 and that it will begin recruiting new Cabin Crew members. It’s the latest sign that the airline is planning sustained travel demand beyond this summer’s surge. «Increased customer demand and new routes beginning later this year mean we need more flight attendants to operate the airline», said Brady Byrnes, Vice President of Flight Service for American.
The airline plans to hire 800 flight attendants by March 2022. American offered extended voluntary licenses of up to two years during the pandemic to help reduce costs as demand for travel was devastated by the virus. He also encouraged staff to accept early retirement packages. Other companies urged employees to take similar packages.
Getting employees who have been on leave or who have not been actively working can be challenging and time consuming. Two-thirds of licensed US Flight Attendants will have to be retrained before they can fly. «The return of up to 3,300 flight attendants by December is not an easy task for our teams working to support you behind the scenes,» wrote Brady Byrnes.
American Airlines’ second quarter numbers will be better than expected. But bookings, led by domestic leisure travel, surged in the late spring and early summer, and now carriers are scrambling to increase staff. American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and other airlines have been busy training hundreds of pilots who have been called back to work, a process that can take more than a month in some cases. Those airlines, as well as United Airlines and Spirit Airlines, have announced plans to hire additional pilots to keep up with what executives expect to be strong demand next year 2022.
Cardinal Airlines seeks certification
Nigerian startup to launch ops in 3Q2021
Nigerian airline Cardinal Airlines Limited is continuing the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process with the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) with plans to start domestic operations from Abuja by the end of the third quarter of 2021. The company has applied the use of Embraer aircraft and Avions de Transport Régional Aircraft (ATR) turboprops due to their profitability on national and regional routes. His application for an Air Transport License (ATL) is in an advanced stage, according to reports. The company was registered in Abuja on July 15, 2019.
Cardinal Airlines founder and Chairman Alhaji Masud Bashir, who has a background in real estate, reportedly launched the company to offer more affordable airfare to Nigerians. The airline will have its operational base in Abuja, but will operate in all airports in the country, he revealed, adding that it plans to take off with four planes and then increase the fleet as operations progress.
Airlines plurality
Despite the economic setbacks related to the pandemic, Nigeria is seeing a boom in new entrants. Green Africa Airways expected to start in June 2021, but this was delayed to July 2021 as its AOC was not available before then due to unforeseen circumstances, the company announced on social media. Since then they have opened bookings for flights as of August 1, 2021. This follows Ibom Air which started operating in 2019, followed by United Nigeria, in February 2021. Chanchangi Airlines is trying to make a comeback after having obtained an AOC in April 2021. Also waiting in the wings is NG Eagle Airlines which is in the final stages of certifying its AOC, the NCAA has confirmed, as well as Binani Air, Obike Air and now Cardinal Airlines.
Former Aero Contractors CEO Ado Sanusi said the emergence of new airlines was being made possible by the Federal Government creating a more conducive environment by introducing policies to stimulate new investment in the aviation industry, such as the elimination of import duties and the value added tax on imported aircraft and spare parts. The industry has also been anticipating better access to foreign exchange. More airlines do not necessarily mean dilution of the existing market, he said, as many will develop secondary routes.
Delta returns to profitability
Delta Air Lines becomes profitable again
Airlines are chasing a return to profitability for the first time since the pandemic hit finances around the world. Delta Air Lines was the first American airline to report second quarter earnings, excluding special items, with a superhabit of US$ 1.02 per share in the quarter. The results easily beat consensus estimates with a negative variation of US$ 1.33 per share. Although Delta Air Lines shares may not be reacting more favorably, because their results were not surprising. The airline predicted months ago that the second quarter would be a turning point for profitability, anticipating a robust summer travel season. Additionally, Delta is positioned as a full-service premium airline targeting international markets where bookings remain depressed, especially on its main Atlantic and Pacific routes.
Nonetheless, Delta’s results imply that travel momentum continues to grow. The company reported US$ 7.1 billion in total revenue, compared to US$ 4.1 billion in the March 2021 quarter. Consensus estimates had called for US$ 6.2 billion in revenue. Passenger revenue per seat mile increased, and the airline’s load factor, or the percentage of seats sold, increased to 69% from 45% in the March quarter, a sign that Delta is returning to flights almost complete.
The prospects for Delta were encouraging. It said its booking curve had normalized, indicating that travelers are booking flights earlier. Daily net cash sales in June were 70% of 2019 levels, indicating that Delta is outpacing the carry-over of refunded tickets due to cancellations in the pandemic. «Domestic leisure travel has fully recovered to 2019 levels and there are encouraging signs of improvement in business and international travel», Delta CEO Ed Bastian said in a statement.
The airline’s report explains that there were trouble spots about Atlantic and Pacific travel, which are largely undeveloped. Delta Air Lines reported only US$ 288 million in trips to the Atlantic and US$ 88 million in its Pacific Area segment, both more than 85% less than 2019 levels. Latin America showed a little more strength, with US$ 485 million dollars, which represented 36% less.
For the September 2021 quarter, Delta predicted that capacity would be reduced between 28% and 30% compared to the September 2019 quarter, with revenues to be reduced between 30% and 35%. Those would be sequential improvements over the June 2021 quarter, when capacity was down 39% and passenger revenue dropped 53%, compared to 2019 levels.
Analysts generally praised the report released by the Atlanta-based company. Delta’s results look very encouraging. Delta’s guidance for the third quarter was slightly better than consensus forecasts, Raymond James’s Savanthi Syth noted. Cowen’s Helane Becker called out some positives: «Yield trends are likely still positive as corporate demand is recovering faster than anticipated», she wrote, referring to earnings returns, a measure of profitability. airline operations. Bernstein’s David Vernon reiterated a better performance rating and a US$ 64 target on Delta: «The guidance for the later half of revenue and profitability is constructive as the underlying trends in demand remain intact. businesses are on the mend and cost performance, if cut, points in the right direction».
Despite the positives, airlines are facing new headwinds: the spread of new variants of Coronavirus that is renewing lockdowns and travel restrictions in Europe and other regions, along with an increase in fuel prices for aircraft that is driving up operating costs and squeezing economic margins.

The state airline based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, exclusively operates a fleet of the Boeing 737 line. Flydubai claims that this decision follows a review of the company’s strategy in light of the Coronavirus pandemic and the impact it has had. had on trips. The terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, nor about the specific payments for cancellation of orders and/or are part of the compensation related to the grounding of the 737 MAX.
Flydubái, exclusive client
Flydubai initially operated a fleet of forty Boeing 737-800s (40), while an agreement with the American manufacturer had placed an order for 250 Boeing 737 MAXs ordered between 2013-2017, including the order of 737-8 MAXs (130), 737-9 MAX (70) and 737-10 MAX (50).
Faced with the need to reach a Boeing-Flydubai agreement by reducing its order by 65 aircraft, the airline will eventually receive a total of 185 737 MAXs. Currently, Flydubai has already received delivery of Boeing 737-8 MAX (13) and Boeing 737-9 MAX (3), although as expected, the entry into service of these aircraft has been greatly delayed due to the 737 MAX had been grounded due to industrial safety concerns. The airline plans to receive an additional eleven Boeing 737 MAXs (11) before the end of 2021.
The operations of the fourth generation 737 MAX line has been a fantastic aircraft for Flydubai over the previous generation 737 Next Generation, allowing for improved range and fuel efficiency.
Flydubai perspectives
Flydubai is owned by the Government of Dubai. The airline still has a growth outlook more than 400% larger than it currently is. The airline may retire some older generation aircraft over time, although the average age of its 737NG aircraft reaches five years.

Suriname seeks to incorporate aircraft
Suriname Airways seeks aircraft leasing
Surinam Airways (SLM) expects to have its own aircraft again at the end of July 2021, despite the continuing liquidity problems faced by the Surinamese airline. Recently, the last Boeing 737s were retired by the leasing company after default, decimating the fleet.
The Surinamese airline continues to fly through turbulent times due to the casualties of aircraft in its fleet. The only Boeing 777-200ER, which was used only a few times on the route between Paramaribo and Amsterdam/Schiphol, was permanently returned to the owner. The only Boeing 737-700 aircraft was held in the United States due to non-payment of rents, as a result, the airline has been idle with no aircraft to fly. Suriname Airways was forced to fill the gap in regional routes in America, leasing a Boeing MD-80 from World Atlantic Airlines, but has failed to maintain routes with this aircraft.
Currently, an Air Belgium Airbus A340-300 is currently being used for the route to Paramaribo-Amsterdam/Schiphol. Meanwhile, the airline continues to work to normalize the situation of its service network.
Suriname wil vliegtuigen opnemen
Suriname Airways zoekt vliegtuigleasing
Akasa next Indian operator
India plans new low cost airline
India could be looking for a new low-cost airline to enter the market next year 2022. The startup called Akasa Airlines is backed by legendary investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala and would be led by former CEO Vinay Dube of Jet Airways. The next airline has applied for its initial permits to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and expects its air operator AOC to be approved soon.
India could see its new low-cost airline take to the skies in mid-2022 dubbed Akasa, which translates to «the sky», and is currently applying for its Certificate of No Objection (NOC) from the Ministry of Civil Aviation. This is the first of many steps to officially launch the airline and receive the Air Operator Certificate (AOC). However, this particular new airline has caught the public’s attention thanks to the endorsement of Rakesh Jhunjhuwala. The legendary investor is often described as the Warren Buffett of India and is known for his bullish outlook on the Indian markets. His investment would undoubtedly bring star power to the emerging airline and provide much-needed funding at this difficult time. Rakesh Jhunjhuwala has previously invested in budget airlines SpiceJet and Jet Airways before their collapse in 2019.
Akasa, first news
The businessman plans to establish an investment of up to US$ 35 million/₹ 260.7 million Crores in the low-cost airline for a 40% stake. Akasa has also lined up another foreign investor to raise funds, according to sources. These funds will give the airline the seed money it needs to comply with regulatory frameworks and hire a management team to get the new company up and running.
Akasa Airlines will be led by former Jet Airways and GoAir CEO Vinay Dube, along with other seasoned aviation leaders. The leadership of familiar faces will help the airline during its early stages and as flights take off around 2022. The start-up of the operations of the new airline will depend on how quickly it collects funds and receives its AOC from the Indian Government.

United Airlines compraría aviones eléctricos a Heart Aerospace
United interest Heart ES-19 electric aircraft
United Airlines would buy electric planes from Heart Aerospace
United Airlines announced this Tuesday 07/13 the intention to purchase one hundred Heart ES-19 19-seat electric aircraft from the new Swedish company Heart Aerospace, while the US airline seeks battery-powered aircraft for regional routes. This announcement is the latest in a series related to innovation by United as major airlines are under pressure to reduce carbon emissions in the face of future challenges in commercial aviation. The US airline’s venture financing arm said in a statement that it is also investing an undisclosed amount in the company with Breakthrough Energy Ventures of Bill Gates and Mesa Airlines. United would not disclose the value of the order, which is conditional on the aircraft meeting safety, business and operational requirements. Regional carrier Mesa Airlines would purchase 100 ES-19s, subject to similar requirements, which can fly passengers up to 250 miles.
Heart ES-19
The Heart ES-19 aircraft would enter service as early as 2026. Electric aircraft can only make short commuter or urban trips due to the size and weight of the batteries. United, under the subsidiary company United Express, could use the plane to connect hubs such as Chicago/O’Hare International Airport with smaller routes, some of these routes have been cut by legacy airlines because they have a high operating cost. «With a lower cost profile, you can recapture smaller markets than was possible with the higher cost of a jet fuel aircraft», said Mike Leskinen, President of United Airlines Ventures.
The ES-19 aircraft would generate zero operational emissions and would represent a starting point for the distribution of power to aircraft with higher capacities. «We don’t want to wait for 50 seats, 75 seats, 125 seat planes. We want to get involved now by investing in a company that we think has a huge technological edge in hopes of working with them over time to move the size of the aircraft to a caliber. bigger», Mike Leskinen. As part of environmental policies, United Airlines has said it would reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 100% by 2050.

Sky Express orders five ATR 72
Sky Express agrees for five additional ATR 72-600s
The Greek airline Sky Express Greece has signed an agreement to acquire five additional ATR 72-600 (5). The airline based in Heraklion Island, Greece, received its first ATR 72-600 at the end of June 2021 as part of the addition of higher performance turboprop aircraft. This new deal will see five more ATR 72-600s join its fleet in the next twelve months. «We are expanding and modernizing our fleet, increasing the number of destinations and developing our operations. The acquisition of six new state-of-the-art ATR 72-600 aircraft is another milestone in the course of SKY Express», said Ioannis Grylos, CEO Sky Express.
ATR 72, adaptation
Sky Express currently operates a fleet of sixteen Airbus A320-251NEO (6), ATR 42-500 (4), ATR 72-212A (5), ATR 72-600 (1) aircraft. The key operating characteristics of the ATR 72-600 make it attractive for its low fuel consumption, consuming up to 40% less and emitting up to 40% less CO2 than a comparable regional aircraft in its category. The ATR 72-600 continues to be attractive for its STOL operations on short runways, allowing access to inter-island routes at airports with runways of 1,279 meters (4,196 feet) and a landing distance of 915 meters (3,002 feet).
Sky Express flies to 48 destinations in nine countries. The airline has the largest network of services in Greece, flying to 35 national and regional airports, so the ATR 42/72 are adapted to reach short runways in the sporadic territory of Greece. «ATR aircraft are well suited to serving islands with their ability to take off and land from runways that other aircraft simply cannot access, and this is essential for regional operations in a country like Greece», says the President of Sky Express, Theodoros Krokidas.
Fleet renewal
The agreement is part of a fleet renewal process at Sky Express. The airline has incorporated its first ATR 72-600, while ten additional ATR 72-600s are expected to complement the fleet comprising five ATR 72-5212A with an average age of 19.4 years and four ATR 42-500 with an average age of 24.3 years. As the new ATR 72-600s start to land in Heraklion, the airline will begin to retire its old ATR 47/72s.
ATR Aircraft
French-Italian regional aircraft maker ATR Aircraft says its ATR 72-600 sets the sustainable benchmark in contemporary regional aviation. «Studies have shown that a 10% increase in regional flights can lead to a 5% increase in local GDP, demonstrating the value of regional air travel and the critical role of regional connectivity. Skip the series 500 to 600 series shows the value of our policy of continuous development. Sky Express will benefit from the latest generation upgradeable avionics suite, and your passengers will enjoy a modern and comfortable cabin. This is an investment in regional aircraft more efficient and eco-responsible, and it is an ideal time to do so», says ATR CEO Stefano Bortoli.
Sky Express continues with its green policies, seeking to reduce the environmental footprint by investing in a potential aircraft such as the ATR 72-600 that represent a key factor in direct operating cost offsets. «Thanks to the efficiency of turboprop technology and the benefits of the company’s focus on continuous innovation, ATR aircraft open more than 100 new routes each year, burn up to 40% less fuel and emit up to 40% less fuel. CO2 than regional aircraft. For all these reasons, ATR aircraft have been chosen by some 200 companies in 100 countries around the world», ATR says on its website.

ATR Aircraft
