AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Russian Court declares Transaero Airlines bankruptcy

Transaero Airlines is declared bankrupt by Court of Russia

The Russian airline Transaero Airlines has been declared bankrupt by the Commercial Court of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region.

In 2015, Russia’s second-largest airline asked for government aid as financial conditions deteriorated. Russia’s Sberbank filed a bankruptcy lawsuit against Transaero on October 19, 2015; the court placed the airline under external supervision in December 2015.

External oversight officials said in the Russian court that they had seen premeditated bankruptcy characteristics. Since 2012, Transaero’s financial situation had declined and accounts had been disfigured. Claims from creditors now reach RUB329 billion ($ 5.7 billion), citing representatives of the bankruptcy supervisor.

The airline owns nine aircraft, but only one is registered in Russia and based at Moscow-Vnukovo Airport. The location of other aircraft is unknown. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The Boeing 737-8 will begin its first flight on November 29, 2017, when it will operate three daily flights between Miami International Airport and New York’s LaGuardia.

At one point, the airline had announced that the plane would have 29 inches of space in some rows of economy class, while the rest would be 30 inches away, which caused some backlash between the airline’s customer base . After hearing the complaints, however, American decided instead to remove a row of cabin to accommodate the same legroom throughout the cabin.

Boeing has touted the 737 MAX as «designed to deliver maximum flexibility, reliability and efficiency in the single-aisle market.» The MAX has accumulated more than 3,700 orders from almost 90 different customers from around the world, making it the best-selling plane in history in 101 years of Boeing.

Airlines on three continents, including Dallas-based Southwest Airlines, have already received their first MAX. Norwegian Air already operates transatlantic flights with the long-range narrow-band aircraft. A \ W

Extrañas complicaciones en Air Berlin

(AFP)

AW | 2017 09 13 16:17 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Strange complications at Air Berlin

The German airline Air Berlin, in financial difficulties and waiting to find a buyer, announced on Tuesday the cancellation of a hundred flights due to the «exceptional» number of pilots who declared they were suddenly sick.

«We are currently faced with an exceptional number of sick leave from the pilots and for this reason several flights were canceled today (by Tuesday),» Air Berlin said in its Facebook account.

According to German media, about 200 pilots of the 1,500 that the company has were down. The German newspaper Bild alludes to a «pilots revolt» that would have preferred to resort to sick leave rather than a strike, which causes them to lose part of their salary.

German Pilots’ union president Ilja Schulz has told the Rheinische Post that he fears that Air Berlin’s long-haul pilots, the best paid, are the first to be fired to clean up accounts and attract a buyer.

Air Berlin, abandoned in June by its main shareholder, the Gulf Etihad airline, declared itself insolvent on August 15 but continues flying with an emergency loan from the German government of 150 million euros. A \ W

BoA inaugura centro de entrenamiento

AW | 2017 09 12 16:16 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

BoA inaugurates training center

BoA Airlines has opened its own Training Center

The state airline Boliviana de Aviación (BOA) inaugurated its own civil aeronautics training center in the central city of Cochabamba, which demanded an investment of more than US $ 3 million dollars.

During the event, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGAC) gave the state company the corresponding certificate for the operation of the center.

«The civil aeronautics training center will allow to train pilots and cabin crew and will allow to do all the annual trainings that are carried out in an airline,» said Ronaldo Casso, executive of the airline.

The facility has a modern simulator in which pilots can train to fly aircraft in all weather conditions and in emergency situations. The center also has a real airplane, the first one that had the airline and is already out of service, which was adapted by the BOA maintenance team to train the crew to act in any emergency, said Casso.

BOA was created in 2007 and began operations in 2009 with flights in La Paz, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz, Bolivia’s three main cities. The state airline currently connects the nine Bolivian cities and also reaches the towns of Uyuni (southwest), Chimoré (center) and Yacuiba (south).

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Thailand suspends international flights by AOC

Thailand suspends international flights from some Thai airlines

Thailand’s military government has suspended international flights from Thai airlines that have not received new air operator certificates (AOCs) from the country’s aviation body.

The measure will affect 12 airlines that together have a market share of only 2 percent and thus will have little impact on the economy dependent on tourism in the country, the head of the Thai Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT).

Thailand’s aviation industry has been under scrutiny after the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) downgraded the country in June 2015, giving it a red flag for lack of a deadline to solve major security problems . The government’s decision is ahead of an ICAO visit to Thailand next week. «They want to see a strict measure. The government had to order the CAAT to suspend the operations of airlines that did not pass the assessment,» government spokesman Sansern Kaewkumnerd told reporters. The Thai military junta often invokes the executive branch, known as Article 44, to eliminate bureaucratic obstacles.

CAAT was created in 2015 by the military government to address flaws in commercial aviation. It is responsible for auditing and recertification of Thai commercial airlines to ensure that they are in line with ICAO standards. Chula Sukmanop, CEO of CAAT, told Reuters that the suspension will affect 12 airlines, including Orient Thai Airlines and Thai Vietjet Air. «It’s not that they failed in the evaluation, but the evaluation has not yet been completed,» Chula said. «They can resume their flights as soon as they pass the assessment,» he said, adding that the two airlines are expected to resume their international flights as early as next month. The suspension is expected to be lifted for the other airlines by January 31, 2018, Chula said. A \ W

The airline operates flights from Abbotsford, Edmonton, Halifax, Hamilton and Winnipeg, and called the expansion a «significant milestone.» Canada flight prices are down 23% on routes provided by low cost airline NewLeaf. «The addition of these three airports extends our reach to some of Canada’s largest and most popular destinations,» said Chris Lapointe, vice president of commercial operations.

«Flair is delighted to expand and bring with us our low fares and welcome new passengers.» «Edmonton is the perfect fit for Flair. It’s a great international airport that connects people from all over the world,» said Julie Rempel, communications and marketing representative.

Flights between Toronto, Vancouver, Kelowna and Edmonton will take off several times a week, depending on the route and whether it is direct or has stops. For example, Flair said it will have seven direct flights to Toronto out of Edmonton each week. There will also be four direct flights to Vancouver and three to Kelowna.

Flights to the three new markets will begin on December 15, and tickets are now on sale. In addition, the airline said that passengers can now book flights until the end of 2018. «This is just the beginning of many more ads like this,» said Lapointe. «We are adding more aircraft and as we do, our network will grow significantly.»

Flair Airlines currently has five Boeing 737s, and said it will receive one more plane in December, and then one seventh in early 2018. The airline plans to operate 12 aircraft by the spring of 2019.

Flair said that since last year, he has flown more than 376,600 passengers on more than 3,090 flights. In addition to commercial flights, the company operates charter flights for private companies and other airlines such as Air Transat, Sunwing and Canadian North Airlines.

Earlier this year Flair purchased NewLeaf Travel Discount airline to become a Kelowna based company. The two companies had been linked since the launch of NewLeaf, with Flair providing real flights and NewLeaf selling tickets. A \ W

Orange Air has had its Air Operator Certificate (AOC) canceled by the United States Department of Transportation (DOT), after the DOT was informed by the airline that it had delivered its Air Transportation Certificate.

The Florida-based airline suspended all revenue flights in 2016. It subsequently began discussions with charter airline World Atlantic Airlines of Miami, Florida, about possible financial support for a restructuring and possible acquisition. Orange Air then advised the DOT in March 2017 that it planned to resume operations.

However, in May 2017, Orange Air informed the DOT that it would not object if the Department waived the one-year latency requirement and immediately canceled Orange’s certificates. Consequently, the DOT did.

Prior to its closure, Orange Air provided scheduled and charter flights, and operated a scheduled service between Cincinnati Int’l, Branson, New Orleans Int’l and Cancun with a fleet of an MD-82 and an MD-83 on behalf of Branson Air Express. A \ W
