AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Aerolíneas Argentinas is not going to be privatized

The manager of Institutional Relations of the airline, Felicitas Castrillón. He said that subsidies were cut in half and that in 2019 they would operate with their own resources.

Recently, authorities of Aerolíneas Argentinas were in Chubut to launch the Atlantic Corridor, which links the cities of Mar del Plata, Bahía Blanca and Trelew. The new route, which began in the early days of April, is part of the company’s new route plan and competition with new signatures that are added to the market, including low cost.

The manager of Institutional Relations, Felicitas Castrillón, spoke with FM Tiempo Trelew (91.5) about the company’s objectives, based on three axes: reduction of the deficit, greater connectivity and improvement in service quality.

Regarding the first point, Castrillón said that the use of state subsidies by the flag airline was reduced by half. It went from an average of US $ 700 million in the last 10 years, to US $ 300 during 2016. And the perspective is that in 2017 it will be between 160 and 170 million dollars. In the medium term, the goal is to reach 2019 to manage with own resources, assured the authority of the company.

He threw out more definitions: it marked that they will compete within the scenario of the arrival of the low cost and that «in no way» will be privatized the company, although many of the routes offered are those already in its possession Aerolineas Argentinas.

Regarding the company’s finances, Castrillon reviewed: «In the last 10 years he has demanded an average of 700 million dollars from the state. In 2016 used 300 million dollars that the State gave and this year we plan to operate with between 160 and 170 million dollars. A huge job to be more efficient. Understand costs and savings with entrepreneurial criteria and not so political «. In that sense it marked that «before they were chosen or lowered routes by political questions. We have obligations to give a good service, but without putting into play the finances of a country «.

Regarding the plan, he said: «We have a social role, but responsibly because we handle people’s money. We are not a ministry. It is the silver of the people, who would go to sewers, routes, to thousands of needs. We generate money because we offer a service and progressively we have a plan towards 2019 to be able to operate with own resources of the company, since also we generate silver because a service is rendered «.

The company’s authority asserted that there were different strategies to reduce expenses. One has to do with the printing of the tickets through the Web and avoid distribution. On the other hand, the reduction of meals services on board, which was saved last year between 5 and 6 million dollars.

«For the new scenario there are two answers. To the question of if we are going to transform ourselves into a low-cost, the answer is no. We charge for the bag, we give some service on board. And the low cost operate at other airports. There are changes to be more competitive because it competes with the low cost around the world. Because of the need to operate with our own, we have had to think about what kind of competitiveness we can have with respect to the rest. We can not operate as we did 10 years ago».

He explained: «We lowered the commission to the agencies which was a cost of distribution. Today with online sales, 50% of sales is by that route, it does not make sense the cost of distribution. We have to adapt without falling into a low cost scenario».

Specifically, he said that «we have reduced the service of meals in flights less than 2 hours. And in the majors to two hours we are offering a snak and a drink. When we looked to the side most airlines did not offer anything and we took a battery of not-so-friendly decisions».

Alitalia on the brink of bankruptcy

On the table is the ultimatum that can save or definitely sink one of the most renowned flag airlines

On Thursday April 13 will definitely know if Alitalia is still flying or will land definitively. While today the company will suffer the umpteenth strike, there is now a date to determine the survival or non-survival of the company. The airline runs out of money and the owners have said they will not put in any more resources if there is no agreement with the unions. On the table is the ultimatum that can save or definitely sink one of the most renowned flag airlines.

Cramer Ball, the airline’s director general, introduced a few weeks ago an Alitalia relaunch plan – in reality, pure survival – that includes 2000 layoffs and a 30 percent reduction in the salaries of pilots, as well as leaving ashore About 20 short and medium-range airplanes and abandon certain interior lines.

The owners of the airline, Etihad, which holds 49 percent, and Intesa and Unicredit banks said they will provide the additional capital needed to give the company a new opportunity but that contribution, essential for survival because the company has Without liquidity, would only be done if there is trade union agreement. And they only keep the offer until April 13. If that day, they have said, there is no agreement, Alitalia is finally closed.

Trade unions point directly to the state, to intervene. But not all are clear that there will be a final public aid to save Alitalia. The distances between the positions are enormous and, meanwhile, today Alitalia is stopped by strike, adding more losses to which it accumulates of almost chronic form. A\W

Azul inicia trámites para filial en Uruguay

https://i2.wp.com/travellingtheworld.boardingarea.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/azul_brazilian_airlines_economy_class_E190_sao_paulo_to_rio_de_janeiro_02.jpg

AW | 2017 04 04 22:57 | AIRLINES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Azul initiates procedures to create subsidiary in Uruguay

The request of the Brazilian airline, Azul Airlines, to the Uruguayan authorities includes the request to operate the air bridge between Montevideo and Buenos Aires, a coveted route and disputed by several players of the region, given its potential throughout the year.

The Brazilian airline Azul started the formal process before the National Directorate of Civil Aviation and Aeronautical Infrastructure (Dinacia), to become a new Uruguayan airline that will be called Azul Uruguay.

The application was filed about 10 days ago and now the country’s aeronautical authority is studying the documentation. Once it is analyzed and completed, the file will be sent to the Aeronautical Board so that the provisional permit is granted and the certification stage begins as a flag airline, a prerequisite to begin with its flight operations, he explained to El Observador Director of the Dinacia, Antonio Alarcón.

The order of the Brazilian group includes the request to operate the air bridge between Montevideo and Buenos Aires, a coveted route and disputed by several players of the region, given its potential throughout the year. At present the stretch between the Uruguayan capital and the Argentine capital has services of Amaszonas Uruguay and Aerolíneas Argentinas. Until last October that route also had frequencies of Alas Uruguay, the self-managed airline that stopped flying because of serious financial problems that led to the competition of creditors.

At the end of last year was Amaszonas Uruguay that came to the charge in order to make new frequencies taking into account the cessation of operations of Alas Uruguay. The company started with 12 weekly frequencies for the route between Carrasco and Aeroparque and in October of 2016 requested another 14.

With the gradual increase of routes already operating in Carrasco International Airport and the entry of new players to the local market, the government is optimistic to consolidate the regional aeronautical hub and to recover the levels of record traffic left by former Pluna Five years ago.

The route is also of interest to the airline Azul, which has been negotiating with the Uruguayan government for several months to install a hub at Carrasco Airport with between six and eight airplanes. In its plans is also the incorporation of part of the workforce of the former airline Alas Uruguay to its local operations.

The Brazilian group aims to cover the route Montevideo-Porto Alegre and Montevideo-San Pablo as a flag airline.

Other players. Another potential player who joined the ring in recent weeks to cover the airlift is the low cost airline Alas del Sur, an alternative that seems to be consolidated in the aviation industry globally.

The Argentine government recently authorized it to operate the Buenos Aires Montevideo route for 15 years, initially with a daily frequency. He plans to do it with Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft with a capacity of 180 passengers. The other firm authorized to provide connections with Uruguay is American Jet S.A for the route Neuquén-Rosario-Buenos Aires-Punta del Este.

Consulted by the subject, Alarcón indicated to the Observer that to date no communication has been received from the Argentine counterpart on any designation of new routes.

As he explained, normally when a state gives a line to a company, a formal communication is made to the country with which the air service agreement is held.

On the other hand, the Minister of Transport and Public Works, Victor Rossi told El País that the time has come to analyze the qualification of low-cost flights to and from Argentina. «We are not the arbiters in the competition of the airlines between them, we analyze it from the point of view of what adds or not for the country,» explained the hierarch. He added that the government «intends to promote as much connectivity as possible» in order that Uruguay «has multiple connections with the region and the world.»

The concessions to low-cost airlines in Argentina came after the controversy that arose when the government of that country wanted to grant the routes to Avianca, a company linked to the Macri family, and Fly Bondi who had ties with the Deputy Chief of Cabinet, Mario Quintana. Both cases are investigated in the Justice, according to the newspaper El Cronista of the Buenosairean capital.

With the gradual increase of routes already operating in Carrasco International Airport and the entry of new players to the local market, the government is optimistic to consolidate the regional aeronautical hub and to recover the levels of record traffic left by former Pluna Five years ago.

If accelerated last year’s growth rate, in 2017 a new maximum will be reached in the number of passengers that will travel through the main air terminal of the country, in excess of 2.2 million people. A\W

Boeing, Iranian airline reach $3 billion deal for new jets

Boeing agreed to sell 30 jetliners to an Iranian airline valued at $3 billion, the second deal in the country in four months and a potential test for U.S. President Donald Trump.

The Chicago-based company reached a deal in December to sell $16.6 billion in planes to Iran Aseman Airlines, the first pact of its kind since 1979. The agreements come after most international sanctions on Iran were lifted as part of its nuclear deal with world powers. Trump has criticized that arrangement but also has lauded Boeing as an important creator of U.S. manufacturing jobs.

Iran Aseman Airlines signed an agreement with the intent to purchase 30 Boeing 737 MAX planes, Boeing said in a statement on its website Tuesday. The value is based on list prices, which typically are discounted for large orders. The deal provides the airline with an option to buy 30 additional 737 MAXs. Deliveries of the single-aisle jet are scheduled to start in 2022.

A sale of this size would create or sustain about 18,000 U.S. jobs, Boeing said, citing Commerce Department calculations. The company said it would seek purchase approval from the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control.

The December agreement was the first of its kind since the Islamic Revolution, according to Iran’s Ministry for Roads and Urban Development. Boeing’s last airplane deliveries to Iran were 747 jumbos that arrived in 1977, according to the company’s website.

On the campaign trail, Trump attacked a planned center to paint Boeing 737s in China and blasted the contract for Air Force One presidential jet as too costly. Subsequent meetings with Boeing Chief Executive Officer Dennis Muilenburg brought a significant thaw. Trump in February attended the rollout of a new Boeing jet from a factory in South Carolina, extolling the «beautiful» carbon-composite 787-10 and praising the CEO as «a very, very tough negotiator.» A\W
