AW-704344441La aerolínea germana Lufthansa aprueba la alianza The Boeing Brasil Commercial

AW-BOINGBRAERThe German airline Lufthansa approves The Boeing Brasil Commercial alliance

The German airline Lufthansa has recently announced the approval of the proposed acquisition by Boeing of Embraer Commercial Aircraft in the amount of US$ 4.2 billion. The main airline and powerful airline group has expressed that the future new merger would preserve a level playing field, referring to the previous partnership between Airbus and Bombardier. Currently, the European builder has bought the shares of Bombardier Inc. through which he was going through serious financial problems. The Executive Chairman of the Lufthansa Group, Carsten Spohr, at an aviation conference said: «We would prefer to have two healthy competitors».

The agreement would see Embraer cede 80% of its commercial arm to Boeing, but it has been delayed by an investigation of European Union competition that is expected to last until the end of April 2020. The European Union is concerned that the consolidation of the First, the Canadian Bombardier decision to exit the market by selling a key program to Airbus, and then the integration of rival Embraer into Boeing, will leave very few options.

Several airlines have backed the Boeing-Embraer agreement, suggesting that the Embraer of Brazil would not remain viable as an independent competitor for a combination of the Airbus and Bombardier CSeries of Europe aircraft program, now renamed A220. Spohr said Lufthansa, which was CSeries’ launch customer, had supported its acquisition by Airbus after Bombardier ran out of funds to bring the 110-130-seat plane to the market, and now he was ready to support the Boeing-Embraer agreement.

Airbus would cut production line of the A330NEO affected by the global health crisis

Airbus Group SE is considering a cut in the A330NEO aircraft production line after the largest customer has reported that a fall in the coronavirus-driven trip had forced it to defer deliveries.

The aircraft manufacturer can make a decision as early as March 2020. In a presentation in February, the Malaysian discount airline AirAsia X, which accounts for approximately a quarter of the A330NEO’s pending orders, said it would postpone deliveries of the model. The prospect of a rate reduction, which comes immediately after a previous cut in the annual production of the A330 to 40 aircraft, illustrates how fast is the damage from the deceleration of travel that is affecting the aerospace industry. AirAsia X, part of the Air Asia Group, is one of the largest foreign operators in China, the epicenter of the outbreak, where flights have fallen by up to 80%. AirAsia X said on February 27, 2020, that the Chinese market represents 30% of its capacity and expects winds against the outbreak during the first half of this year. The company said it could switch to single-aisle aircraft on thinner routes to better align with demand. AirAsia X will also seek to return some older planes to landlords early, he said in a document. «The routes within a six-hour radius from our center in Kuala Lumpur will be replaced by A321 aircraft when the market recovers», they say from the company.

«There is not a single aircraft program that might not feel any impact from Covid-19», Jefferies International analysts said in a note. At the same time, the A330 is especially vulnerable, according to the investment bank, with its 30 routes mainly in Asia and eight of the 10 busiest are very exposed to the Coronavirus epidemic.

The Executive President of Airbus Group SE, Guillaume Faury, told the French senators on Wednesday 04/03 that he expects an even harder year on long-distance routes.

Wide fuselage market

The widebodies market had declined considerably in the world market, entering a weak stage when the coronavirus began to impart directly. In February 2020, Airbus reduced 2020 production plans for A330 aircraft from 53% in 2019 to approximately 25% lack of production. The A350 line would keep production at 9 or 10 per unit per month. A small order book for the A330NEO makes a possible setback particularly complicated for a model that has not sold particularly well.

While wide bodies generate more profits per plane, airlines are switching to smaller, more fuel-efficient single-aisle planes that can travel long distances. Airbus has seen the demand for its narrowbodies A320NEO/A321NEO family increase, especially for larger and more powerful variants.

Carriers around the world have reduced inactive flights and airplanes after the spread of the coronavirus beyond China, and prepare to see how demand is maintained during the upcoming Easter holiday season. Deutsche Lufthansa AG, Ryanair Holdings Plc and the British Airways parent company, IAG SA, have reduced capacity as companies reduce business trips and travelers choose to stay at home. «It is too early to say if there will be a domino effect on the industrial side of this industry. History tells us that resistance is there. With the SARS, for example, in eight months we were experiencing traffic that was higher than when it started», Airbus Chief Commercial, Christian Scherer, said Tuesday at an event in Brussels.

AW-Icon AW001

AIRBUS CANADAAirbus Group renegotiates contracts to reduce costs inherited from Bombardier Inc.

Airbus Group SE is putting pressure on suppliers in its A220 Program to renegotiate contracts and reduce the price of parts to help reduce costs and make the old Bombardier Inc. model profitable. Airbus is pushing for costs to be reduced against costs. the expectations of higher sales of A220, as it offers a formidable marketing machine and offers the model along with its narrow internal body of the A320 series. The grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX has also presented the opportunity to take more advantage of the single-aisle market.

Safran SA said it is in talks with Airbus to cut costs in the A220 cabin, while engine producer Pratt & Whitney and its partner MTU Aero Engines AG have agreed to offer 10% savings, people with knowledge of the plan said. Senior Plc says it could earn more work by launching production at low-cost sites. «Airbus clearly has much more confidence in its ability to sell the A220. Being able to turn to suppliers with larger volumes in the medium term is a great lever to reduce costs», said Benjamin Heelan, an analyst at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Airbus strives to achieve balance in the A220 Program after paying Montreal-based Bombardier US $ 591 million to raise its stake to 75%. While the composite wings of the plane, the spacious cabin, and the state-of-the-art cabin make it a technological leader, Airbus Canada Chief Philippe Balducchi said in January 2020 that overall costs should be reduced by a significant two-digit percentage.

An Airbus spokeswoman, based in Toulouse, France, said significant progress has been made with some suppliers but is still in talks with others.

The company will invest up to one billion euros (US$ 1.1 billion) in the A220 Program for this year 2020. The plans could generate some savings if the design of components is observed or the similarity with the A320 is increased. Airbus leverage with suppliers may be high at this time because many also serve Boeing, where the 737 MAX crisis has slowed demand.

Safran chief executive Philippe Petitcolin said in a call on Thursday 27/02 that the challenge is to reduce costs without compromising the quality of the interior of the plane. The Paris-based group supplies the upper seats, galleys, sinks, and storage containers of the A220, as well as oxygen systems, waste disposal, water, and sound insulation.

A spokeswoman for Munich-based MTU referred the questions to Pratt & Whitney. A representative from United Technologies Corp., owner of Pratt and Collins Aerospace, declined to comment. Collins is another important supplier on the plane, which provides onboard computers, power supplies and actuators that control the fins.

Senior CEO David Squires said in an interview on Monday 02/03 that the UK firm is also in talks with Airbus to reduce A220 costs. While it now provides air conditioning systems and ducts, recalibration may present an opportunity to bid for aerostructures through its low-cost operation in Southeast Asia, he said.

Most likely, Airbus revisits the entire A220 supply chain, Heelan of BAML said, as it aims at mid-2020 production of 10 airplanes per month at the old Bombardier plant in Mirabel, near from Montreal, and four on the Airbus site in Mobile, Alabama.

Bombardier, who spent US$ 6 billion on the CSeries Program (A220), originally sought the breakeven point this year but said that on January 16, 2020, the target had fallen, which led to the exit of the A220 Program.

Sales signals

Airbus obtained an order from the Nigerian Green Africa Airways on February 13, 2020. Air France-KLM airlines have also expressed interest in a larger A220, with approximately 160 passenger seats. Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said last month that he is currently not working on a stretch model, but sees it as a likely development. AW-Icon AW002

Boeing aumenta contratación

AW-7000980AW | 2020 03 03 23:09 | INDUSTRY

AW-73700-MAXBoeing increases hiring

parche-boeing-737-max-offsetBoeing bets on the restart of 737 MAX with an increase in hiring

In the weeks before The Boeing Company halted the production of Boeing 737 MAX in January 2020, company executives carefully analyzed all personnel who would have little to do when the last planes left their factory in the Seattle area. However, the conclusion they reached was surprising: the problem was not that there would be too many mechanics idling around for months, but very few.

Of course, it would have a cost to have them on payroll, but what most worried managers were the idea of not having enough workers when they finally restarted the production of 737 MAX. That task will be made more difficult by the need to simultaneously maintain the hundreds of 737 MAX airplanes that Boeing built-in 2019, but was forced to keep them until the airlines can start flying them.

Then, on December 13, 2019, Boeing welcomed 115 new mechanics and assembly line workers to its manufacturing center in the Pacific Northwest. Another 122 new employees started on January 10, 2020, and 143 the week after that, while only 31 drivers left the company that month. In total, according to union figures, Boeing has hired some 730 of these workers, a figure that is almost entirely net additions, according to the International Association of Machinists and District 751 of Aerospace Workers, the company’s largest union.

Boeing executives currently plan to restart the factory in the next two months, with the expectation that around mid-2020 the regulators will lift the flight ban imposed on the 737 MAX in March 2019 after two plane crashes. If the Boeing schedule is too optimistic, as its previous predictions have done, costs will accrue, not only for new hires but also for the other 3,000 737 MAX assembly workers that the company has maintained on the payroll since That closed production. «There are some important risks. If you are Boeing and you want a part of the market in the future, you will have to make sure to get out and protect it now», said George Ferguson, an analyst at Bloomberg Intelligence.

Coronavirus impact

To make matters worse, the impulse to increase production again occurs just when there is increasing concern that Coronavirus (COVID-19) slowing global air transport and discourages airlines from taking the planes they have already ordered, much less Buy new ones.

gallery-large-02Market prospects

Once Boeing begins to emerge from the 737 MAX crisis, it will need additional employees to mount a commercial return for the plane, both at the factory and in the parking lots where the company and airlines have stored some 800 aircraft. Without the new workers, labor shortages could disrupt Boeing’s production and allow Airbus SE to expand its leadership in the crucial market for single-aisle aircraft.

There are indications that some of the Boeing suppliers are preparing to leave their hibernation. Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc., which eliminated 3,200 jobs due to the production break, said last week that it would resume the manufacture of 737 MAX airframes to deliver them to the aerospace company for this month March 2020.

In the middle of this month, Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun is expected to speak to the suppliers. Uncertainty and financial tension are beginning to accumulate in parts manufacturers, which represents another risk for Boeing.

While Boeing is spending a lot in anticipation of a 737 MAX return, it is far from certain when or if the strategy will pay off. The Chicago-based aircraft manufacturer projected in January 2020 that it will absorb around US$ 4 billion in abnormal costs related to production disruption, mainly in 2020, added to US$ 14.6 billion in other maximum costs. described by the company. According to the company, about 200 of the machinists hired by Boeing since December 2019 have been assigned to the 737 MAX Program. More workforce may be needed when Boeing restarts its 737 line factory and the thousands of workers who have been lent to other programs return to the 737 MAX assembly line. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW001

Airbus-SpainClaims for next layoffs 630 workers in Airbus Defense and Space in Spain

Labor ax layoffs Airbus Spain. The layoffs of Airbus Spain concentrate a total of 630 workers distributed in Madrid 370 and Andalusia 260. The plans of the Airbus Defense and Space division to reduce costs, gain competitiveness and adapt to the loss of orders have been finalized today through a letter that the Airbus Human Resources Directorate in Spain has sent to the entire workforce.

Today 3 March 2020, Airbus Spain has communicated the energetic measures that involve touching the workforce in different countries with the adjustment of 2,362 positions over a period of two years, a movement that includes 630 positions in Spain by the end of 2021 and after the presentation of the adaptation of the workforce in Spain to the Committee of Interempresas.

The proposal for each Airbus Defense and Space SAU plant in Spain corresponds to the most affected work center in Getafe, where 275 employees will be dispensed with, followed by Tablada, south of Seville, with 116. In the facilities next to San Airport Pablo (Sevilla) has planned a hundred layoffs and at the Barajas Airport, 72 employees, as well as the Bay of Cádiz Center, in the Port of Santa María, with 44 casualties, totaling 607 jobs that will be amortized and the remaining 23 until reaching the 630 planned they are workers of two subsidiaries based in Madrid that work for the defense and space division of the aerospace giant: CRISA and Secure Land Communications. In the letter addressed to Airbus personnel in Spanish territory, it is emphasized that voluntary withdrawals will be used wherever possible and that work will continue to best manage this cut with the Spanish Interempresas Committee.

This extraordinary situation comes after several years in which the results of this division dedicated to the construction of military aircraft, defense systems, and other products related to satellites and their launch, contrast with the good results of the commercial aircraft division.

On the other hand, the A400M, a sophisticated military transport aircraft called to replace the Lockheed Hercules in different armies is not being the expected commercial success, despite having traced the initial problems that turned this program into one of the Achilles heels of the corporation and that had to inject a large sum of capital to keep it going and be able to move forward with the plan that has its final assembly plant next to runway 09-27 of Seville Airport.

Spanish government position

The Government rejects the decision of Airbus to lay off 630 workers in Spain and is dialoguing with the aeronautical manufacturer to know first-hand the details of its restructuring plan, said Tuesday the Secretary-General of Industry and SME, Raül Blanco. The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism will work in coordination with the Government, as well as with the regional administrations and social agents, to see how to act in this regard, he explained, after meeting with the directors of the three most affected autonomous communities: Madrid, Andalusia, and Castilla-La Mancha. The Spanish government together with the organizations and institutions, has transferred the total support to the workers, whose representatives, in a simultaneous meeting with the Airbus Directorate, have learned the details of the dismissals in the different factories.

According to union sources, Madrid is the community most affected by Airbus cuts, affecting 275 workers in the Getafe factory and 72 in Barajas, in addition to 23 people from the subsidiaries Secure Land Communications and Crisa (Tres Cantos). In Andalusia, the cut is 44 workers at the CBC factory in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz) and 216, in Seville, of which 100 correspond to that of San Pablo, and 116, to that of Tablada.

The Secretary-General of Industry and SMEs has stressed that all the negotiations that will take place must be framed within something much broader as is the future of the aerospace industry in Spain. The objective of Spain is to focus the country by 2030 with an industry with the integral capacity to design, manufacture and market a plane worldwide.

The Minister of Economy, Knowledge, Business, and University of the Junta de Andalucía, Rogelio Velasco Pérez, stressed that the three autonomous communities that will be affected are aligned with the ministry to, together, be «able to solve this situation and over All strengthen the aeronautical sector in Spain in the medium term. We will hold periodic meetings in which the Government will inform us of those issues that have been agreed and planned to be carried out and, if they are sensible measures, we will support them», he announced.

The Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of the Junta de Castilla-La Mancha, Patricia Franco Jiménez, thanked the ministry for the proactivity it has had in the negotiations with Airbus and also the ability to call not only with the affected communities but also in the meetings he is holding at the union level. «We have established a common position of the three communities with Industry and although the labor part that does not belong to this Ministry, we have to work so that the positions are affected as little as possible and, on the other hand, we must put the lights on long».

The Minister of Economy, Employment and Competitiveness of the Community of Madrid, Manuel Giménez Rasero, has insisted that the regional government will not accept any dismissal that may affect some of the nearly 8,000 workers that Airbus has in its three Madrid centers (Getafe, Barajas, and Tres Cantos). He added that Airbus is a consortium participated by the Government of Spain, so it has to defend the interests of the country and, especially, its Ministry of Industry, Economy and Defense. They have requested that the Executive establish expensive and specific support plans so that Airbus does not reduce its number of employees, and that the ministries involved meet immediately with the unions and representatives of the European group.

AW-Icon AW001

The producer of the Russian Superjet 100 becomes a division of Irkut Corporstion

Sukhoi-logo-350Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC), has been acquired by the Russian manufacturer Irkut Corporation. Three months before its 20th anniversary, Sukhoi Civil Aircraft has ceased to be a separate entity, to be part of a division of Irkut Corporation. Irkut’s new subsidiary, with a neutral brand of regional aircraft, will now be responsible for SCAC’s only product, Superjet 100 (SSJ-100).

The change is seen as a reflection of the changed priorities of the Russian aviation industry and its disillusionment with the business viability of the SSJ100 line. Officially, the change is attributed to the restructuring of United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) and, more specifically, to its commercial aircraft division. In turn, UAC is currently being integrated into Rostec, Russia’s state-owned high-tech, and aviation mammoth.

«As part of the commercial aircraft division, Irkut branches including the former SCAC will maintain their core competencies in the development and production of aircraft», UAC says in a statement. The newly created commercial aircraft division, including the newly created Irkut Regional Aircraft, will take over and complete the flight testing and certification program for the MC 21-300 medium-haul narrow-body aircraft project and the launch of its production in series, as well as the modernization of the SSJ-100 and its versions, including the SSJ-70. The responsibility also includes the creation of joint after-sales and a marketing network for both programs. «The consolidation of the main R&D and production capabilities of the civil aviation industry will make the implementation of existing programs and the development of prospective projects more efficient», the statement said. Interestingly, the Ilyushin IL-114-300 turboprop project is not among the division’s responsibilities. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002
