AW-Icon AW001

Spirit Aerospace logo pngSpirit AeroSystems expects to restart production of the Boeing 737 MAX in March

Spirit AeroSystems, the largest supplier of parts for the Boeing 737 MAX, plans to restart the fuselage production line regardless of the ability of the aircraft manufacturer to obtain the backing of the regulators for the aircraft to resume commercial service.

Spirit AeroSystems Holdings Inc. plans a gradual resumption of the manufacture of fuselages, engine pylons and other parts for the aircraft, which has been grounded worldwide since March 2019 after the second plane crash. Spirit, based in Wichita, State of Kansas, earns more than half of its revenue for the 737 MAX.

AW-Getty-ImagesFollowing the announcement in January 2020 of stopping the 737 MAX airframe production chain with plans to cut almost 3,200 jobs in Kansas and Oklahoma, Spirit’s plan to resume production is accompanied by a large amount of Boeing’s financial support, He said he could resume assembly of the 737 MAX aircraft at his Renton facility, near Seattle, about two months before the expected receipt of regulatory approval for the plane by mid-2020.

«Boeing has decoupled the recertification production», Spirit chief executive Tom Gentile said in a call to investors after the company reported a fall in quarterly earnings. Its largest supplier has an agreement to provide parts for 216 aircraft this year, with a monthly production that will increase to around 30 by the end of the year. It stopped production at the end of December 2019 and has 120 737 MAX airframes stored in its main Wichita facility. Spirit plans to send these by rail to Boeing over time, but keep around 25 as a buffer to support the aircraft manufacturer’s own production ramp.

Spirit and Boeing had established a joint working group to help their suppliers deal with the 737 MAX production freeze. «Many providers are distressed», Spirit said in a regulatory submission. The two companies are exploring options that include creating additional inventory, financial support, and simplified payment terms. Spirit’s decision to reduce a large part of its workforce from 1,000 troops is not expected to derail future planned production increases, although it would take until 2022 to reach the monthly production of 52 aircraft achieved last year. «Our preference would be to bring back the people we said goodbye», Gentile said. Some workers may choose to leave the state, relying on a large amount of experienced labor related to the aerospace sector in Kansas. AW-Icon AW002

Problema cableado motor 737 MAX

23574013271_328a1ffaca_h-754x502AW | 2020 02 28 17:33 | AVIATION SAFETY / INDUSTRY

AW-Icon AW001

AW-Seattletimes_737MAXBoeing problem wiring 737 MAX engine

Boeing-Logo.svgThe FAA has identified a new safety problem in the motor control wiring in the 737 MAX737MAX8-960x298

Following last week’s FOD (Foreign Object Waste) problem, the latest news is disturbing related to engine control wiring in the Boeing 737 MAX. Although it is typical that a new aircraft possesses inhibitory vices at the time of its entry into service, the increasing number of incidents resulting from a deficit assembly line with low-quality snowfalls is not normal, irresponsible action persisting along with the structure of The aerospace company.

FOD in tanks

The first of the recent security problems, published last week, speaks of quality control at very low levels. Workers could be complacent or subversive on the other hand in the face of company policies, or management is more concerned with the marketing of its products than with problems in production lines.

Motor control wiring

The LEAP-1B engine control wiring that equips the Boeing 737 MAX fleet has a metal shield that acts as a lightning rod in the air, which protects the wiring against lightning damage. Such a blow could cause a loss of power on both engines in flight; although the electrical activity does not have mass in the aircraft with respect to the ground.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed a directive that will require that every Boeing 737 MAX aircraft assembled so far, including those already delivered, be inspected to solve a problem that has just been discovered with this metallic coating. The FAA estimates that the mechanical shield should only take a period of hours to repair the problem. But the reality is why the company has not dedicated quality time to invest in security.

The company spokesman said that the problems are not expected to affect the early return of the aircraft in mid-2020. From this response, it seems clear that the administration is more concerned with reassuring the airlines that they will receive their planes to time and reassure investors that these minor problems should not affect the price of the shares.

Boeing for the moment considers to calm the cravings of the market, but continues to lose in the crazy direction of its flagship aircraft the Boeing 737, the one that has known to give great joys; It is currently a continuous source of inexhaustible problems. AW-Icon AW002

Boeing-Logo.svgBoeing in client conversations about simulator training at 737 MAX

The Boeing Company is in talks with major clients about financing simulator training on the Boeing 737 MAX once it is authorized to fly again, in an attempt to placate airlines frustrated by the global ground connection approaching Your first anniversary.

imagesThe aircraft manufacturer has contacted different airlines in the world 737 MAX customers to bring them proposals for the corresponding training in the fourth generation aircraft of the 737 line. The Indian airline SpiceJet Ltd. will have covered the cost of putting the pilots through sessions on the aircraft for training, which sell for up to US$ 20 million. As for FlyDubai and Ryanair Holdings Plc, they are in discussions on the subject. The carriers are among the main buyers of 737 MAX with almost 600 orders in total.

SpiceJet President Ajay Singh said on February 12, 2020, that Boeing is paying for the installation of a simulator in India. FlyDubai, which has already received a simulator, is in talks with the aircraft manufacturer about the terms of compensation, said a person with knowledge of the negotiations. Both are among customers who have threatened to defect to Airbus SE. Ryanair is also in talks with Boeing about financing simulator sessions. Europe’s largest discount airline already has two machines in London Stansted, but may need one at its base in Dublin, Ireland.

The Allied Pilots Association (APA), which represents the crew of American Airlines, including 4,200 flying 737, said that financing for MAX simulators would be welcome and that it can make a difference between a situation in recoverable flight or not. «Muscle memory does not occur by reading manuals or experiencing creative computer-based training modules. Obviously, Boeing has concluded that it is not satisfactory for this. We agree», said Spokesman Dennis Tajer.

Negotiations are conducted airline by airline, said Chaz Bickers, a Boeing spokesperson. The conversations include the provision of services as training to offset the costs of inactivity of the 737 MAX.

The company has reserved US$ 8.2 billion to cover compensation to carriers forced to reschedule thousands of flights and set aside growth plans. The figure increased by the additional US$ 2.6 billion after the Chicago-based aircraft manufacturer accepted in January 2020 that 737 MAX pilots would benefit from simulator training, and the Federal Aviation Administration is expected (FAA) to make it mandatory for the return of the plane.

Planning to align flight simulators for 737 MAX operators began in 2019, before Boeing officially reversed the course to support additional training for pilots, said Dave Calhoun, CEO of the aerospace company. Boeing is working closely with customers to meet their training needs as we work to return the 737 MAX to service safely. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW001

Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp. has announced that the first copy of the Spacejet MA90 model completed its first flight on February 14, 2020, with a Pratt & Whitney PW1200G engine assembled in Japan by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines. Mitsubishi Aircraft has carried out in the United States the test flights of its Spacejet MA90 aircraft equipped with a Pratt & Whitney PW1200G engine manufactured under license in Japan. The first Pratt & Whitney GTF PW1200G engine assembled in Japan has started flight tests. The first flight of the engine, which drives the next Mitsubishi SpaceJet, was praised by the Japanese company as an important milestone for both the aircraft program and the Japanese aerospace industry.

The test took place at the Mitsubishi Aircraft Flight Test Center in Moses Lake (Washington); It was installed on the company’s Flight Test 1 (FTA1) aircraft. The Mitsubishi Aircraft flight test team validated the basic functions of the normal flight engine. On subsequent flights, the performance of both the engine and the aircraft was confirmed, and the engine has been authorized. It is scheduled to join the flight test fleet in the coming weeks.

The motorization tests have followed several additional flights where the engine’s flight envelope has been opened. Basic tests were performed to check the behavior of the engine in normal flight. Mitsubishi, they have described this flight as an important milestone for the development of the commercial aviation business in Japan.

Much of the development and certification work of the Mitsubishi SpaceJet is being carried out at Moses Lake Airport (Washington), where there is an important team of American engineers in addition to 250 Japanese Mitsubishi employees to continue with the certifications of the Program.

Spacejet program

In a statement, published on February 27, 2020, Mitsubishi executives praised the achievement as an important milestone for the development of the country’s commercial aviation. «We are in the process of creating not only airplanes but also the basis of the commercial aviation industry in Japan», said Mitsubishi Aircraft president Hisakazu Mizutani. Similarly, the President and CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines, Katsuyuki Shimauchi, is quoted as saying: «In addition to manufacturing complete aircraft such as Mitsubishi Aircraft, the ability to assemble aircraft engines in Japan is very important for the growth of the domestic industry, the aeronautical industry, as well as the development of a reliable supply chain necessary to support future aircraft».

PW1200G engine

The PW1200G engine is an exclusive power plant for the Mitsubishi SpaceJet. The regional jet is being developed by Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation, while the aircraft is manufactured by the parent company Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. The latter is also the parent company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Aero Engines, which according to the company itself, has one of the two sites that finalize and test its PW1200G engine.

Mitsubishi Perspectives

On February 5, 2020, the delivery of the Mitsubishi SpaceJet was delayed for the sixth time, according to reports due to a redesign of the electrical system, which will require more certifications. Mitsubishi Heavy initially imagined that its jet would enter the regional aircraft market in 2013. It should now enter service by the end of 2021 or 2022. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW001

Airbus Group SE and SAFRAN Group S.A. have been in talks about increased production of the Airbus A320NEO line. The Executive President of SAFRAN, the French engine manufacturer, informed on Thursday 27/02 in talks with Airbus Group about plans to increase the production of its A320NEO Image result for safran logoaircraft, in the wake of the continuing certification delays of the Boeing 737 MAX that is still on the ground Due to design problems.

Representatives of the CFM International companies of Safran SA, and General Electric, which manufacture the LEAP-1A/1B engines for the A320NEO and 737 MAX, recently met with the head of Airbus, Guillaume Faury, to discuss the increase in production by 2022-23, Safran CEO Philippe Petitcolin has reported, while reporting that the 737 MAX crisis had affected his cash flow of 700 million euros (US$ 761 million) in 2019 and was expected to contribute to a 5% decrease in revenue this year. Boeing has halted the production of its narrow-body flagship aircraft, landed almost a year ago after two fatal accidents attributed to poorly designed flight control software.

414-4149345_7-min-a320-neo-pngThe production problems of the A320NEO have limited Airbus’s ability to respond to growing demand, but the European aircraft manufacturer can increase monthly production by one or two planes in each of the two years after reaching a monthly target of 63 by 2021. Safran’s room for maneuver is also limited by production bottlenecks from its own suppliers that affect some forged metal parts. «With the sharp decline in production at Boeing, there is some capacity available in the suppliers, so we are in discussions to determine how we can support the increase in production requested», said Philippe Petitcolin.

SAFRAN Profits presentation

Philippe Petitcolin has presented the earnings of Safran for the fiscal year 2019. The CEO of SAFRAN has expressed that in 2019 there has been organic growth, more expansions of high margins in all our divisions and a good generation of cash flow in the context of the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX.

The challenge of SAFRAN in 2020 is to demonstrate even more the capacity to adapt to the situation with a solid operational performance. SAFRAN enjoyed another year of strong revenue growth of the order of 9.3%. Despite the grounding of the 737 MAX, the engine construction company delivered 1,736 LEAP engines in 2019 compared to 1,118 in 2018, a number that is very close to the initial target, resulting in a decrease in production cost. With a portfolio of registered orders of 1,968 new orders and commitments for LEAP. AW-Icon AW002

Las lecciones de Bombardier Inc.

AW-7000887100AW | 2020 02 26 23:50 | INDUSTRY

AW-Icon AW001

gmh114508371-0The lessons of Bombardier Inc.

bombardier_old-svgThe decline of aviation in the Bombardier Inc. group

The history of Bombardier Inc. has been acclaimed for many achievements becoming an aerospace company, trains, and superior technology. The commercial aviation market in the 1980s was booming under the wings of Boeing, McDonnell Douglas and Airbus Industrie fighting for dominance over the skies. Almost 40 years later, Canada’s Bombardier Inc. has collapsed morally by being scrapped in its bold attempt to reach the cutting edge technology center in Canada.

Bombardier sunset

dash[1] - copiaAfter the economic collapse suffered by the Canadian company Bombardier, the disintegration of the different business units has corresponded, including the Dash 8Q Program sold to Longview Aviation, under the Viking Air brand. Then the CRJ Program sold to the Japanese Mitsubishi Aircraft has been thrown away after accusations crossed by espionage. The company finally sold the latest of its most valuable artillery, the CSeries 360_crj-55050Program to its initial partner Airbus Group SE, disintegrating commercial aviation to appease the accumulated debts of the Canadian aerospace empire. Finally, the chapter shamefully closes with the sale of the train division to Alstom of France. The French manufacturer of high-speed railways Alstom agreed to buy the Bombardier train unit in an agreement worth close to 7.5 billion euros, as it seems to increase its volume in the face of growing Chinese competition and growing demand in Europe.

The current Bombardier has only kept its last bulwark corporate aviation. In retrospect, the accumulated errors of Bombardier, which had grown rapidly through state-sponsored acquisitions, clearly underestimated the challenges of developing a new-generation aircraft by assuming financial support from the Canadian government along with the risks. Bombardier did not recognize the inevitable reaction of Boeing and Airbus to a plane that was dangerously close to competing with the smallest of its planes. The colossi of the air concluded in suffocating the Canadian builder.

The avant-garde features and the new technology should have given it an advantage, however, Bombardier has not been able to function intelligently in the middle of a highly developing market, definitely losing the glory of its past. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002

Airbus avanza Programa A350 Cargo

AW-AirbusA3500AW | 2020 02 26 22:44 | INDUSTRY

AW-Icon AW001

AW-Airbus350FAirbus advances A350 Cargo Program

Airbus would be moving forward to activate the A350 Freighter Program

images (2)Airbus Group SE is moving forward with the development of the A350 Freighter Program, a cargo version of the A350 passenger aircraft. The European builder is actively launching a cargo variant of the A350 to air cargo operators, and would formally launch the new cargo production program when transporters activate interest orders.

The development of loading programs is very attractive for the world market in constant growth. Airbus has found a cargo market for the largest aircraft in its fleet, the A380 gaining interest from the freight airline industry, but finally, it was unsuccessful due to the size of the mega-plane project.

Qatar Airways-sized airlines with a fleet of 24 cargo aircraft including Airbus A330-200F (8), Boeing 747-8F (2) and Boeing 777F (15), will join the Boeing 777F (5) that will expand their Fleet for the cargo market. Singapore Airlines is another airline that owns Boeing 747-400F (7). The IAG Group explores its cargo division with British Airways and Iberia. The airlines would have to incorporate pure cargo companies such as FedEx and DHL of world-renowned reputation.

Current freight programs

There are currently four production active load programs in the world that correspond to Boeing 767-300F, Boeing 777F, and Boeing 747-8F, while Airbus Group offers only the Airbus A330-200F. As cargo is a very lucrative segment, Airbus would offer a more current A350 variant in terms of technology and logistics presenting the A350F (Freighter) variant.

Airbus would be analyzing an A350-1000F version. Based on the A350-1000 variant, it would have fuel efficiency and space to exceed current market offers. The current performance of the Airbus A350-1000F would have about 68 t (150,000 lb) at a range of 16,100 km (8,700 nmi), but would be surpassed by the Boeing 747-8F with 132 t (292,400 lb) at a range of 7,630 km (4,120 nmi). The Boeing 747-8F can carry more payload than the A350-1000). But the virtues of the A350 would stand out for its extended autonomy capacity to double its most direct competitor, expanding many more cargo routes to longer destinations. Another particular benefit is that the A350 has a low fuel consumption rate, positioning it in a market in front of its most direct competitor, which is where Airbus would lead in the air cargo market.

Interest for A350F

Cathay Pacific Airways is emerging as an airline that could order the A350F. Currently, the airline operates a cargo fleet of Boeing 747F (21). With a highly homogenized order of A350, Cathay Pacific is very interested in replacing its obsolete cargo fleet with this type of twinjet aircraft.

The Airbus A350F has a very promising market segment for cargo airlines, where companies will be able to operate a versatile aircraft into the future with a flattering horizon.  AW-Icon AW002
