AW-70866.jpgThe Boeing Company will invest US$ 1 billion in the Global Security Program

The Boeing Company is planning a US$ 1 billion investment to develop a risk reduction program aimed at improving 737 MAX, among other areas of the aerospace company. The company is trying to rebuild trust and cooperation with airlines, passengers and regulators around the world after 737 MAX suspended flights this year due to air accidents on Lion Air JT-610 flights. and ET-302 from Ethiopian Airlines.

The details of the Global Aviation Security Program remain confidential due to delays in returning 737 MAX to service. Boeing will launch the pilot development project after regulators approve changes to 737 MAX software and crew training and the resumption of aircraft flights. The company expects this to happen in the United States at the end of this year. The plane is expected to return to Europe in the first quarter of 2020, said the President of the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) this week. The pilot development project budget will exceed more than US$ 8,000 million in compensation for airlines that are experiencing delays in aircraft delivery due to flight suspension.

Boeing President Dennis Muilenburg was accused by US lawmakers last week of putting profits above safety standards, a claim Boeing denies. Muilenburg said Boeing will help «build a flow of talent» from pilots and invest heavily in the pilot-machine interface for the next generation but has given few details. But, part of Boeing’s investments will include improving aviation infrastructures, such as traffic and flight simulation systems, said a third source.

The company is also considering whether it will develop new materials or training methods for various career stages and fund training centers or recruitment efforts. Boeing can also create an aircraft design data exchange network with global regulators, in an attempt to improve external knowledge of its technologies and operations. AW-Icon AW002

Embraer SA and The Boeing Company should complete the sale of 80% of the commercial aviation division by the end of this year, but the European Union has delayed approval until early 2020.

Now, the minority shareholders of the Brazilian aviation company turned to the European Commission (EC) to try to avoid the consummation of the sale of control of the commercial aviation division of Embraer as proposed by Boeing, said Tuesday expressed 6/11 the Brazilian Association of Investors (Abradin). The entity, which says that the operation approved by the Government of Brazil, by the Executive Branch, Jair Bolsonaro, earlier this year has irregularities and undermines global competition in the aviation industry, is also bringing together minority shareholders with up to 2% of Embraer to convene a new meeting of investors to try to prevent the transaction from being completed.

The sale of 80% of the commercial aviation division of Embraer, the company’s main source of funds, to Boeing should be completed by the end of this year, but the European Union decided in October 2019 to thoroughly evaluate the agreement, establishing a deadline for a decision in February 2020 to be issued about the new constitution of the Joint Venture or the alleged covert sale. According to the European Commission, the agreement would eliminate Embraer as the world’s third-largest manufacturer of the commercial aircraft industry, while potential rivals from China, Japan and Russia could not fill the third level (regional) market in the next decade due to the high barriers imposed by the leading leaders.

Abradin said he filed an appeal with the European Commission on 10/2019, arguing the competitive situation in the sector. «The remaining part of Embraer will have no breath to survive, which will affect global competition in the supply of medium-sized airplanes. There is no company that in the future can fill this void that will leave Embraer; there will be a global supply problem and competition of airplanes», said Abradin’s lawyer, Izabela Braga, on the appeal to the European Commission.

In addition to the competition issue, Abradin also argues that Boeing should launch a public offer (takeover bid) for all Embraer shares, as established by the company’s bylaws. The President of Abrading, Aurélio Valporto, said that Abradin is seeking the support of 5% of Embraer’s actions to convene a meeting on the agreement, despite the fact that the agreement was approved by the company’s shareholders in February 2019. «There are some small shareholders who feel uncomfortable with the trade. They are small shareholders who have a few million reais from Embraer», Valporto said, refusing to identify investors.

Embraer said that along with Boeing «they have been working with the European Commission and other global regulators since the end of last year, even before the partnership between the companies was approved by Embraer shareholders in February 2019. We have already received support for the conclusion of the transaction by several regulatory institutions such as the United States and Japan. We will continue to cooperate with the European Commission in the evaluation of the transaction and expect a positive resolution».

The Embraer-Boeing agreement is subject to action in the Supreme Court (STF) filed in mid-October 2019 by the PDT of Brazil (Democratic Labor Party), which seeks a court order to suspend the agreement. In addition, former presidential candidate Ciro Gomes (PDT) appealed to the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) against the transaction, alleging abuse of economic power and creating barriers to entry for new companies in the aerospace sector.

Complaints about the agreement come at a complicated time for the aerospace company Boeing, which is trying to resume recertification of the 737 MAX flagship due to serious flight safety problems. US lawmakers harshly criticized Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg at a hearing before the US House of Representatives last week for the way the company handled information about the MCAS Flight Control System, cited as One of the factors that contributed to the accidents.

AW-Airbus-werk-in-tianjin Faz_net.jpgAirbus will increase production in China

Logo_Airbus_2014.svg - copiaAirbus and China have strengthened the alliance to increase the production of A320 and A350

Airbus Group and China agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to further develop ties between both parties under the announcement of November 6, 2019, at the signing ceremony attended by several high-profile people, including Airbus Executive Director, Guillaume Faury; the President of the National Development and Reform Commission (CNDR) of China, He Lifeng; Chinese President Xi Jinping; and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Currently, Airbus Tianjin is home to an A320 family final assembly line and an A330 Completion and Delivery Center (C&DC). The memorandum of understanding, called Additional Development of Industrial Cooperation, will help Airbus increase its manufacturing capabilities in Chinese facilities. The manufacturer and the government will take «practical and effective measures for new initiatives with respect to the single-aisle and wide-body aircraft of Airbus», the press release said.

China’s FAL Airbus (Final Assembly Line) is on track to increase its monthly production of A320 aircraft to six, doubling its original production after its opening in 2008. So far, 450 Airbus A320 aircraft from Tianjin have been delivered to several Asian airlines And Chinese. In addition, Airbus has stated that the C&DC will also be able to accept deliveries of the Airbus A350 from the second half of 2020, with deliveries to airplanes from 2021.

Airbus-AVIC

AW-Airbus_Avic.jpgOn September 6, 2019, the European manufacturer Airbus Group has signed another agreement to deepen industrial cooperation in the production of narrowbodies. At that time, Airbus and Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC) announced a partnership for the latter to match the fuselages of the A320 family plane in Tianjin. The first fuselage with the AVIC team will be delivered in the second quarter of 2021. Airbus indicates that the partnership between the manufacturer and China, which dates from 1985, reached a total value of US$ 900 million in 2018.

Boeing-China impact

The strategic movement of the Airbus Group comes when rival Boeing faces commercial tensions with China and the crisis of the 737 MAX. The measure comes weeks after Boeing was forced to reduce the production rates of its 787 Dreamliner, citing US trade tensions with China and lack of demand from Chinese operators. Boeing’s last order to China was in November 2017. Boeing forecast in September 2019 that China will need more than 8,000 new aircraft valued at about US$ 1.3 trillion in the next 20 years to meet the travel demands of the Chinese middle class in fast growth.

Meanwhile, Airbus has been taking advantage of the consequences by increasing its production in China and obtaining orders for its own models. His last request from China was in March 2019. «We attach great importance to our long-term strategic partnership with China and its aviation industry. Airbus is committed to serving this growing sector», said CEO Guillaume Faury.

Challenge high demand

Airbus faces a challenge in itself to keep up with its plans to increase production. Last month, it reduced its key delivery target for the year due to production delays with a new variant of the A320 family. Despite the setback, the company is still prepared to overcome Boeing as the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer, and deliveries are now expected to reach a reduced target of 860 commercial aircraft this year, a company record.

Airbus and Boeing have been increasing production for years, as they seek to meet the growing demand for more fuel-efficient narrow-body aircraft. Boeing has been greatly affected by the grounding of its best-selling narrowbody since MAX’s second fatal accident in March, which has led the manufacturer to a crisis and stopped all deliveries of that plane until it receives approval from the security agencies. AW-Airbus_Tianjin_70034.jpg空中客車將在中國提高產量

AW-Icon AW002

Demoras en acuerdo Boeing-Embraer

AW-700-David Branco Filho.jpgAW | 2019 11 03 00:14 | INDUSTRY / GOVERNMENT

Boeing-Embraer-Logo.pngLa nueva empresa The Boeing Commercial Brasil demora su rollout

Delay in Boeing-Embraer agreement

embraer logoThe new company The Boeing Commerical Brasil delays its rollout

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has delayed its expected schedule for the closure of an important agreement with The Boeing Company in early 2020, according to a stock presentation on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Earlier, Embraer had repeatedly said that the deal, which will see Boeing buy 80% of its commercial aircraft division for US$ 4.75 billion, would close at the end of 2019. The new timeline comes after The European Commission said it would conduct a thorough investigation of the agreement for antitrust reasons. Embraer also said on Thursday 31/10 that he received approval from US regulators.

The agreement with Boeing will challenge Airbus Group, which recently bought a controlling stake in the Bombardier unit that competes directly with Embraer’s medium-sized commercial aircraft of up to 150 passengers.

Airbus-Bombardier

The new Airbus alliance with Bombardier was backed by all aviation regulators. Until all approvals are received and other conditions are met, Embraer cannot guarantee that the Boeing agreement meets its new schedule or is completed at all.

Brazil Senate

The Brazilian Senate shows concern about the alliance with the Boeing. Brazilian Senator Cid Gomes says «Embraer sells a national crime». The representative requested a public hearing in the Senate Economic Affairs Committee to discuss the delivery of Embraer to The Boeing Company. The senator’s position is that «it is a crime of homeland committed and the population needs to be aware of what is behind this transaction».

Cid Gomes made a statement in the Senate gallery to address the problem and warned that Embraer would not only sell but close. “Embraer’s agreement with Boeing was announced as a joint venture, but it is not. In fact, it is the sale of the commercial aviation division of Embraer to Boeing, which will make Embraer unfeasible as an executive aviation and aircraft defense company», he explained, noting that the commercial transaction is currently being investigated by the Union. European

The Senator emphasizes the difficult situation of Boeing in the face of the problem of the security crisis that the company is going through on several fronts, mainly due to the tragedies of the Boeing 737 MAX line. «The investigations led to the conclusion of a technical failure of the Boeing project that would have eluded the security processes required for certification», said Cid Gomes. Airplanes do not fly around the world and the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA) of the United States is investigating accidents.

According to statements by the Brazilian Government Secretary, Ronei Glanzmann, announced in a recent interview that it will allow the Boeing 737 MAX to fly again in Brazil. This would happen without the approval of the FAA itself, which continues to test the plane. It is our life and that of our compatriots that will put us at risk. Although the assertions are somewhat emphatic, it will be necessary to wait for the determinations of the JATR to confirm if it would obtain the corresponding habilitations; On the contrary, enabling an aircraft independently of the bodies that oversee the certifications, but the countries and companies that enable them in a serious legal and security commitment. AW-BOINGBRAER.pngA nova empresa The Boeing Commerical Brasil adia sua implantação

Senado do Brasil

Boeing-Logo.svgThe sunset of the Boeing Company’s flagship plane

The Boeing Company is going through the worst crisis ever seen in more than 100 years of history. Never has an airline industry company faced a «perfect storm» of colossal dimensions. At the same time as when an aerial tragedy occurs, failures due to chain effects are motivated by multiple factors. This storm includes a series of problems in the company’s management chain where multiple factors are condemned as structural failures in Boeing. The American factory is facing a high saturation load in relation to structural faults in the manufacturing chain. A pattern of behavior can be observed in the relaxation of industrial safety standards and processes.

Some time ago the company began to outline a sign of deterioration in a management capacity. Boeing was beginning to have difficulties in distributing the 737 series production line with its supplier Spirit AeroSystems. The motorization problems of some CFM 56-7 turbofan units that equip the 737 Next Generation. These factors have also contributed to Boeing continuing its policy of simplifying and unifying suppliers under its wing to stop the mistakes of companies that provided inputs and delayed deliveries to Boeing.

Faced with greater competition in the skies of the world to obtain supremacy or leadership, Boeing began its frank decline by developing a new product capable of leaving the market earlier than the A320NEO. There was born another problem, the 737 MAX. Aware in the American industry that the Airbus A320NEO was gaining an advantage, certification failures went into shock. In addition to this existential problem, Boeing also had some problems with the batteries of the Boeing 787; motorization problems in the Boeing 777X Program that are delaying the entry into service. Add to this the recent problems of alar cracking in the Boeing 737 Next Generation. Another factor that has made the airlines restless is the lack of decision by Boeing with the hopeful 797 mid-market to complement the gap left by the Boeing 757. Airbus has taken advantage of this segment by responding aggressively with the A321NEO LR/XLR line.

Boeing 737 Next Generation

Earlier this month, the United States Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) issued a guide that states that airplanes with 30,000 or more cycles (takeoffs and landings) should be rechecked within 60 days. The aircraft with more than 22,600 cycles must be inspected within 1,000 more cycles. The design of the 737 lifespans is around 90,000 cycles.

At the beginning of October 2019, Southwest Airlines, based in Dallas, and Gol Linhas Aéreas, of Brazil, were among the airlines that landed older Boeing 737 Next-Generation aircraft. Around 50 Boeing 737, NG airplanes have been grounded after detecting cracks in the alar root, which has forced FAA regulators to dispose of a large number of aircraft on the ground due to serious safety problems.

The Australian airline Qantas Airways is the last airline to remove one of its aircraft from service after cracks were found in the «pickle holder», a part that connects the body of the plane with the wing. He is inspecting 32 more planes immediately. So far, more than 1,100 aircraft have been inspected, Boeing said, of which it was discovered that about 5% had this cracking.

A spokesman for the Australian airline said: “Qantas would never operate a plane unless it was completely safe to do so. The detailed analysis carried out by Boeing shows that even when this crack is present, it does not immediately compromise the safety of the aircraft, as indicated by the time frame given by the regulators to carry out the checks».

A Boeing spokesman said that «safety and quality are Boeing’s top priorities». After completing a round of crack inspections at some 737NG high cycle, it was found that a plane had a small crack in an adjacent location. «To ensure a robust and comprehensive safety inspection process, Boeing has asked those operators to also inspect the adjacent area to ensure that any potential problems are identified and repaired. Additional inspections are already underway. We regret the impact on our customers and we have a repair plan to address any findings».

This problem marks another blow for Boeing, as it deals with the consequences of grounding its 737 MAX aircraft after two fatal accidents. On Wednesday, October 30, 2019, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg testified in front of U.S. lawmakers. The aircraft manufacturer awaits the recertification granted to the 737 MAX for the return to the heavens.

Boeing 737 line

AW-Boeing700045.jpgThe Boeing 737 is an American short-to-medium-range narrow-body aircraft twin-engine developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Originally developed as a shorter and lower-cost twin-engine aircraft derived from 707 and 727, the 737 has become a family of several passenger models with capacities of 85 to 215 passengers.

The 737 was originally imagined in 1964. The initial 737-100 made its first flight in April 1967 and entered into service of the airline in February 1968 with Lufthansa. Then, on 737-200, it entered service in April 1968. In the 1980s, Boeing launched the 737-300, -400 and -500 longer variants (called Boeing 737 Classic Series) with CFM56 turbofan engines and wing improvements.

The Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) was introduced in the 1990s, with a redesigned and raised wing, an improved «glass» cabin, and a new interior. The 737 NG comprises variants 737-600, -700, -800 and -900, with lengths ranging from 31.09 to 42.06 m (102 to 138 feet). Boeing Business Jet versions of the 737 NG are also produced. The 737 was revised again in the 2010s for greater efficiency, with the 737 MAX series with CFM LEAP-1B engines and improved fins. The 737 MAX entered service in 2017, but in March 2019, it connected to the whole world after two fatal accidents.

The 737 is the only current narrow-body passenger aircraft of Boeing, with the 737 Next Generation (-700, -800 and -900ER), and the 737 MAX variants reconditioned and updated in production now.

The 737 series is the best-selling commercial aircraft in history and the longest production. The 737 has been continuously manufactured since 1967; The 10,000 number was launched on March 13, 2018, a MAX 8 destined for Southwest Airlines, and there are more than 4,600 pending orders. The final assembly of 737 is done at the Boeing Renton factory in Renton, Washington. Many 737 aircraft cover a replacement market for 757, DC-9 and MD-80/MD-90 aircraft, and the aircraft currently competes primarily with the Airbus A320 family.

The Boeing 737 is operated by more than 500 airlines, which fly to 1,200 destinations in 190 countries: more than 4,500 are in service and at any time there is an average of 1,250 in the air worldwide. On average, somewhere in the world, a 737 took off or landed every five seconds in 2006. Since its entry into service in 1968, the 737 has transported more than 12 billion passengers to more than 74 billion miles (120 one billion km; 65 billion nm) and has accumulated more than 296 million hours in the air 737 represents more than 25% of the world fleet of large commercial airplanes.

Resurface like the Phoenix

Boeing has the biggest challenge, recovering the confidence lost due to serious errors in the management line. The Boeing 737 that had become the bestseller in sales, in a true commercial box office saga, is now the same success that is causing the greatest headaches.

Boeing has recognized the serious structural problems in the aviation company. It will be these same problems that can distort internal complaints or discomforts that generate communication difficulties and errors in the processes of production. Maybe the American company is in time to solve them at the root.

Boeing is understanding an important lesson where nothing will be the same as before. Like other industrial companies that have also gone through and continue to go through industrial engineering problems, control in the aviation world will change the normalization of products for the benefit of humanity, a hard lesson that has cost lives and millions of dollars.
