Airbus Group adquiere participación en Programa CSeries de Bombadier

Partnering-Airbus-Bombardier-1

AW | 2017 10 17 17:23 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Airbus acquires participation in CSeries program

Logo_Airbus_2014.svgEuropean builder Airbus purchases Bombardier 50.01% of the CSeries program

Bombardier_logo[1]Airbus buys Bombardier 50,01% of the CSeries aircraft program business in a Bombardier political-strategic move against Boeing’s challenge for US tariffs

Airbus announced Monday that the European manufacturer will acquire a majority stake in the company producing the CSeries model of the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier, a family of medium-range aircraft with capacity for between 100 and 150 people.

Boeing should be concerned about the outcome of his war with Bombardier. The biggest risk is that the dispute could push two of the US aircraft manufacturer’s emerging rivals into an ever-deepening partnership that will make them stronger.

Bombardier has gotten the way to avoid the special tariff that the United States has just imposed on its new commercial aircraft. Gives control of the CSeries program to the European consortium Airbus. The operation allows the creation of an alliance that will allow the introduction of CSeries aircraft both in the world and in the United States without complications to eliminate Boeing’s global supremacy in the industry.

The alliance that comes from Europe
The operation counts, in fact, with the approval of Ottawa. Airbus intends to expand the factory that already operates in Mobile (Alabama) and thus open the gap to establish a second assembly line for the CSeries. In that plant is where he manufactures the unique aisle models that are sold in the US. Being manufactured on US soil, it will in principle avoid tariffs for deliveries to customers established in the country, such as Delta Air Lines.

An Airbus A320neo aircraft and a Bombardier CSeries aircraft are pictured during a news conference to announce a partnership between Airbus and Bombardier on the C Series aircraft programme, in Colomiers

BOMBARDIER FORMALIZES ALLIANCE WITH AIRBUS TO WIN BATTLE BOEING IN THE US MARKET

The Canadian company Bombardier said in a statement that Airbus will buy 50.01% of CSeries Aircraft Limited Partnership (CSALP), which produces the CSeries aircraft developed by Bombardier. The rest of the company will be distributed between Bombardier, with approximately 31%, and Investissement Québec (IQ), with the remaining 19%. The agreement includes the opening of a second production line in the United States that will allow Bombardier to avoid customs duties on CSeries aircraft under the orbit of European manufacturer Airbus.

The CSeries family, with capacity for between 100 and 150 passengers, covers a market segment that Boeing abandoned years ago. This single-aisle twin engine, however, is an alternative on regional routes for the smaller models of the B737. Delta said last week that it was not going to pay the tariff. The tax also irritated the United Kingdom, because the wings are made in Northern Ireland.

The potential loss of jobs in Canada has prompted the Canadian government to sign a revised agreement to make sure it is «in the national interest» and creates jobs in the country. The sale of the majority of CSALP comes shortly after US authorities preliminarily imposed 300% punitive customs duties on Bombardier CSeries. The measure was adopted by Washington at the request of Boeing, who considers that Bombardier is being subsidized by the Canadian authorities to offer its aircraft at prices lower than those of the competition. Bombardier said Airbus will provide «experience in hiring, sales and marketing as well as customer support». The main production line of the CSeries family aircraft will remain in Canada «with the support of Airbus’ worldwide projection and scale.» But the two companies said they will open a «final second assembly line» in Alabama for US customers.

Airbus already has a production plant in Mobile, Alabama (USA). The decision to produce in the United States will allow to avoid the rates imposed by Washington. The two companies said the CSeries family, a 100- to 150-passenger aisle aircraft, «is very complementary to Airbus’ current single-aisle aircraft portfolio. This is a victory for everyone,» said the CEO of Airbus, Tom Enders, while Bombardier President Alain Bellemare said he was «very pleased to receive Airbus to the CSeries program.»

Canada’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development Navdeep Bains said that «proposed investments of this kind require the Government to consider whether they are in the national interest.» The agreement with Airbus, like all significant investments proposed in Canada by foreigners , is subject to Canada’s Investment Law.In my review I will look at how this agreement benefits Canadians, supports our sector and creates good jobs», he added.

The dispute between Boeing and Bombardier has generated new sparks with Bombardier’s announcement of entering into an alliance with the Airbus Group. Bombardier is achieving a very smart chip movement, on the one hand, giving Bombardier a clear alliance with Airbus allowing the manufacture of parts of the CSeries Program, to obtain the cancellation of tariffs, for being an American company. On the other hand, it will allow Bombardier not to lose the juicy US market.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau addressed the issue recently in a telephone conversation with Donald Trump. Moreover, he warned that if Boeing went ahead with its complaints, it would be forced to cancel the purchase of 18 F-18 F / A Super Hornet fighter fighters for $ 5.2 billion. It is equivalent to Delta’s contract with Bombardier.

The final opinion of the International Trade Commission on Tariffs will be released in February. The clash shows the tension between the US and Canada in the full negotiation of the revision of the free trade agreement, which is totally stalled. The operation between Bombardier and Airbus has been brewing since August. They already tried a similar alliance two years ago.

The first CSeries aircraft have been flying in some European airlines for a year, with a very positive response from the passengers. Delta will receive its aircraft throughout 2018. The agreement provides for the possibility of giving full control of the program to Airbus in 2023. Boeing responds by questioning the true intentionality of the operation. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Hurricane Ophelia cancellation flights in Ireland

Cancellations of flights in Ireland by «Hurricane Ophelia»

Hurricane Ophelia in Ireland has canceled a total of 213 flights at Irish airports on Monday, according to information from the country’s main terminals, Dublin, Cork and Shannon.

Dublin Airport reported early in the morning that the first operations of the day would operate normally, although a total of 146 flights scheduled after 09.00 hours were canceled. A further 44 operations were canceled at Cork Airport, while at Shannon Airport cancellations amounted to 23 flights.

Aer Lingus, Ryanair, British Airways, Air France, CityJet, Emirates, Qatar Airways, KLM and Norwegian canceled some services mainly affecting connections to the island of Great Britain and continental destinations such as Amsterdam.

The impact of hurricanes in Europe is rare. «Ophelia», was the exception to the rule. It is the first Category 3 Hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Scale in the Eastern Atlantic since records are available. The now reduced to tropical cyclone has left at least three deaths in its passage through Ireland and more than 360,000 homes and businesses without light. Ophelia has reached sustained maximum winds of 140 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC). So far no hurricane of this category had struck European waters; only weak tropical cyclones have been recorded. The passage of Ophelia has coincided with the fires of Portugal, Galicia and Asturias reviving with its strong winds gusting flames and increasing the destruction.

Ophelia, so far the most powerful hurricane that has passed through Europe, is also the tenth hurricane recorded in the Atlantic this season, an unprecedented event according to Ruben del Campo, deputy spokesman of the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (AEMET). «This year is a very active hurricane season. We took 10, when the normal would be between six and seven», he says. Del Campo adds that only in this season have been recorded six major hurricanes, with winds of between 178 and 208 kilometers per hour, when the usual two. A \ W

FAA nueva normativa acústica CLEEN

slide_1.jpg

AW | 2017 10 16 19:35 | AVIATION

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

FAA new CLEEN acoustic normative

The FAA has approved the noise suppression program called «CLEEN» for new aircraft

Resultado de imagen para Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions and Noise Program CLEEN)Beginning January 1, 2018, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will require newly designed aircraft to be quieter, which will help reduce noise around airports and surrounding communities.

The FAA continues to comply with its reduction in aircraft noise and other environmental aviation goals through the Continuous Lower Energy, Emissions and Noise Program (CLEEN). CLEEN is FAA’s Next Generation (NextGen) environmental effort to accelerate the development of new aircraft, engine technologies and advances in sustainable alternative fuels.

The new regulation called «Stage 5 Airplane Noise Standard», this  FAA rule ensures that the latest available noise reduction technology is incorporated into new aircraft designs. As a result, new airplane type designs on subsonic jet aircraft and subsonic large aircraft category will operate at least 7 decibels (dB) quieter than aircraft in the current fleet.

The FAA is committed to reducing aircraft noise through a «balanced approach» by reducing noise at source, improved land-use planning around airports and a wider use of aircraft operating procedures and restrictions that reduce noise.

«Reducing aircraft noise is important to the FAA because it is a significant quality of life problem for surrounding airport communities,» said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta. «We will continue to do our best through new technologies, procedures and community involvement to make aircraft operations quieter.»

In 1975, there were about 200 million people flying in the United States, with about 7 million people exposed to what is considered significant aircraft noise. Since then, an FAA study conducted in 2015 showed that the number of people flying in the United States had almost quadrupled, but the number of people exposed to aircraft noise had dropped to about 340,000 or a reduction of 94 % in the exposure to aircraft noise.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Falkland Islands considers ops for Stanley Airport

The Falklands Islands Executive Board (ExCo) has considered a proposal to investigate future options for the development of Stanley Airport

A report submitted to ExCO by the General Manager of Aviation Services and Director of Civil Aviation, DCA, with prior approval of the CEO of the Government of the Falkland Islands for the development of clear terms of reference for a study that can define the real potential of options and their use for Stanley Airport (PSY/SFAL).

Aerocardal (Gulfstream G150) and small regional airlines such as Chile’s DAP (BAE 146-200) 80-passenger aircraft could establish connections between the Republic of Chile and the Falkland Islands, ensuring that the airport remains available with the American Continent .

FIGAS, a company of the Falkland Islands, operates small aircraft (Britten Norman) for operations between the islands Soledad and Gan Malvina. In addition, heavy helicopter operations in support of hydrocarbon exploration are planned in the future.

It was also noted that a development of this caliber could make Stanley Airport more attractive to the British Antarctic Survey, BAS. It would be necessary to extend and increase the width of the runway for the operators of air ambulances and the small regional airways.

Resultado de imagen para Stanley Airport Falklands

The report also recommends the modification of the runway at Stanley Airport. Although they do not recommend investing capital or time in exploring an elevation of the airport category to operate larger passenger aircraft such as Latam Airlines service on Saturdays, because this would mean doubling the airport that already exists in the airport complex.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Salary negotiation in Aerolíneas / Austral

The aeronautical guilds and Aerolíneas Argentinas/Austral will resume from Tuesday Tuesday the salary negotiation

After the fourth intermediate on Friday, when a measure of workers caused delays and cancellations of flights that affected 10 thousand passengers, the parties will try to unlock a parity in which the aeronautical unions demand a salary adjustment of between 24 and 26% while the state airlines, Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral Líneas Aéreas, they offered a 16% increase, plus a bonus and the inclusion of a trigger clause, in line with the expected inflation rate for 2018.

The Secretary General of the Association of Airline Pilots (APLA), Pablo Biró, warned Saturday that the conflict «is far from over and will be very long», so he did not rule out new measures of force. For the trade unionist, the Argentine government wants to «face society» and seeks to «destroy the image of airlines to facilitate the entry of low cost» to the country.

The guilds paralyzed more than 100 flights of Aerolíneas and Austral on Friday, affecting thousands of people in Aeroparque and Ezeiza. The cancellations caused a great discomfort among the passengers, who in the midst of shouting and pushing made rows of up to 200 meters, waiting for the reprogramming of the flights or the reimbursement of the money.  A \ W

Avianca ultimátum a pilotos en huelga

AW | 2017 10 16 18:01 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Avianca ultimatum to pilots on strike

Avianca has announced an ultimatum for the pilots to resume work this Monday

The airline Avianca gave an ultimatum to the more than 700 pilots who have been on strike since last September 20 and who gave them until this Monday at 12:00 a.m. to resume their work if they do not want to face the «corresponding disciplinary processes».

«Avianca will receive the pilots who are participating in the illegal cessation of activities, without taking disciplinary actions against those who were induced to make decisions without knowing clearly the conditions and consequences that such determinations implied,» says a letter sent to the Colombian Association of Civil Aviators (ACDAC).

Award of the Court of Arbitration
On October 6, the Superior Court of Bogotá declared illegal the ACDAC strike called for labor and wage improvements. In addition, they assert that they have not had any meeting with ACDAC or third parties after September 26 «for further negotiations» and «there is no negotiating table or talks with any Government entity or with third parties.» Avianca «will only assist the legal instances provided for this purpose, as is the Arbitration Tribunal already convoked by the Ministry of Labor.»

«Avianca will only attend and will abide by the award of the Arbitration Tribunal already convoked by the Ministry of Labor and the decisions derived from the decision of illegality under study before the Supreme Court of Justice,» they stressed. Faced with this situation, they assert that the company «will receive the pilots who have been participating in the illegal cessation of activities, without taking disciplinary actions against those who were induced to make decisions without knowing clearly the conditions and consequences that such determinations implied». «This invitation to return to their assignments is maintained until tomorrow, Monday, October 16 at 24:00 hours,» they stressed. Finally, they warn that pilots «who do not present themselves to their work functions on the defined date will be called to the corresponding disciplinary processes».

Given the situation created by the strike, the Civil Aeronautics (Aerocivil) authorized the airline to hire foreigners to face the pilot strike, a measure that is transient and applies for a maximum period of three months. In fact, last Saturday included as part of the contingency plan before the pilot strike an Airbus A330-200 contracted with the Spanish company Wamos Air for the route between Cali and Madrid that has a Spanish crew. On October 7, Avianca operated the first flight with foreign crew, which was commanded by three European pilots accompanied by a captain of the company. The flight covered the route Madrid-Bogotá, was attended in an Airbus A340-500 of the Portuguese airline Hi-Fly. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

«Voloteando» the Spanish crisis

Resultado de imagen para volotea logoVolotea Airlines will decide this week if it moves its headquarters outside Catalonia

The board of directors of Volotea Airlines will preside over an emergency meeting this week to study a possible change of venue outside Catalonia.

Volotea «suffers in its own flesh the problem of Catalan secessionism. It is imperative that the company is within the European Union for the rights of flights», says its founder, Carlos Muñoz.

The Spanish low cost airline will face a major expansion plan in the coming years. Currently Volotea operates more than 44,000 flights from nine bases: Venice, Nantes, Bordeaux, Palermo, Strasbourg, Asturias, Verona, Toulouse and Genoa and in 2018 will open 58 new routes to operate a total of 293, with flights to 78 European cities in 13 countries and a new base in Marseille, in addition to expanding its presence in Spain. Volotea Airlines plans to open up to three new bases in Spain, and incorporates Munich to its destinations from Asturias.

The expansion of the airline is self-financed with its own resources, and without having to go public. The company has raised its forecast and will end 2017 with 4.7 million passengers, 41% more than last year. By 2017, they expect to surpass for the first time 300 million euros, compared to 250 million in 2016. According to Muñoz, «Volotea is financed by its own resources. In just five years since we started operating we have managed to be profitable and in 2017 we will return to have net profit for the third consecutive year.Resultado de imagen para volotea png

The airline plans to expand its fleet of aircraft. The airline’s workforce is currently 875 employees, incorporating 150 new jobs. By 2018, it will create another 250 jobs, most of them pilots. As for the fleet, it plans to move from 28 to 32 aircraft, and complete its transfer to the Airbus 319, replacing the Boeing 717 to increase passenger capacity by 20% to 150 seats, in addition to allowing longer routes.
