Boeing aumentaría cadena de producción del Boeing 737

AW | 2016 10 22 10:41 | INDUSTRY

Analyst sees Boeing going past 60 737s a month

Calling it only a matter of when, one analyst believes the Boeing Co. will push production rates on the narrow-body 737 even higher.

In an article for the website Seeking Alpha, Dhierin Bechai writes that he believes Boeing (NYSE: BA) can push output on the 737 to as high as 63 a month “with little investment and minor risk.”

Spirit AeroSystems Inc. builds about 70 percent of every Boeing 737 at its primary production facility in Wichita.

Spirit AeroSystems Inc. builds about 70 percent of every Boeing 737 at its primary producction facility in Wichita

Boeing has already announced stepped production increases that will take the 737 from the current rate of 42 a month to 57 a month in 2019.

But there has long been speculation in the industry that it may go even higher, as it and rival Airbus work to meet unprecedented demand in the narrow-body market.

Bechai details in the article his belief that Boeing’s massive backlog means it could further increase rates even before the next major upswing of the order cycle, while also putting it in position to capture demand beyond the horizon of its current order book.

“At 63 aircraft per month the Renton facility (Boeing’s final assembly line for the 737) will be maxed out and Boeing will not even risk strong backlog decline,” Bechai writes.

Working alongside the manufacturers to meet those rate increases are suppliers like Spirit AeroSystems Inc. in Wichita, where the company serves as a vital linchpin in the 737 production chain.

Spirit (NYSE: SPR), which has work on all Boeing commercial programs and on multiple Airbus platforms, builds about 70 percent of every 737 Boeing delivers.

The company has already been gearing up for the nearest 737 increase, which will take production rates to 47 per month next year.

Bechai notes there will be stress on the supply chain if Boeing does increase rates further, especially as companies like Spirit must also keep up with the growing demands of other customers.

“There is some risk of stress on the supply chain,” he writes. “A thorough stress test is required before Boeing increases rates even further.” A\W

LATAM Airlines da marcha atrás: no recomprará deuda ni emitirá bonos

AW | 2016 10 21 05:18 | AIRLINES

LATAM Airlines backtracks: not buy back debt or issue bonds

The company said today that the offer was «not satisfied» and therefore gives up a plan to buy back debt from its former Brazilian unit, TAM

LATAM Airlines, the largest passenger transport group in Latin America, said today it withdrew a plan to buy back debt from its former Brazilian unit TAM, which also rejected the idea of placing bonds on international markets.

The airline had initially reported its intention to issue and place debt through unsecured long-term bonds under Rule 144-A and Regulation S of the securities laws of the United States.

The placement was part of a plan to repurchase, redemption or partial redemption of the remaining bonds issued by TAM in 2007 and 2011, a 10-year term each.

However, LATAM Airlines said in a letter to the regulator that one of the conditions to move forward with the offer «was not satisfied», prompting the company to not continue with it and not to proceed with the placement of bonds international markets. A\W

A I R G W A Y S-AeroparqueSABE-AEP

AW | 2016 10 20 16:40 | AIRLINES

The battle of low cost in Argentina

The «low cost» want to land in the country but the guilds Airlines resist with «heavy artillery». The Battle of the low cost in Argentina begins

The arrival of these companies already lit the alert in the trade union wing. Macri wants to ensure that the operating limit line flag and discipline guilds. On the other hand, they claim that would substantially reduce the cost of tickets and investment would rise.

In Argentina these days is observed with surprise and even some developed vertigo is how the change of economic model. Specifically, from one or more closed like which prevailed with kirchnerismo to a more open, as promoted by the current administration. As part of the transition, somewhat strange coexistence arise.

In the business world there are countless examples of this kind and one of them is clearly displayed in the aviation sector.

In this regard, the pair that promises landing of the «low cost» multiply, it becomes more explicit the resistance of several players in this industry playing a major role. Announcements like the one that was heard from the mouth of Bjorn Kjos -owner of Norewgian Air Shuttle, not go unnoticed by the main union leaders in aviation activity. It is no wonder, since its owner and CEO said that the airline will begin to operate local routes in a period not exceeding 12 months.

This, after meeting with executives of Aeropuertos Argentina 2000 and Minister Guillermo Dietrich. It is not the only company interested in gaining presence in the country. The Local Flybondi also anticipated that formalized a request for hearings to be the guarantee to enable low-cost market from air stations such as El Palomar and La Plata. Alas del Sur also wants to enter the aviation market.

But there is more. According iProfesional anticipating to industry sources, the Colombian Avianca will also begin operating a service «low cost» from February. It will be another step to take place in these lands after «buttoned» buying MacAir, aircraft company that belonged to the family of President Mauricio Macri.

The list goes on. pronouncements are awaited by Sky Air Flights owned by Holger Paulmann, brother Horst, Chilean tycoon who leads the destinies of Cencosud group. This signature, although already operates in Argentina -mainly fly to the capital of the neighboring country – is still subject to regulatory corset which sets a floor on prices cabotage.
Precisely the latter (the existence of a minimum value) is what the current administration wants to banish completely before the end of the year, anticipated to iProfesional union sources.

The remove this restriction is seen by many as the starting point for opening the air market and the arrival of categorizing companies come to Argentina as an attractive plaza. Unions are following very closely the movements and the political lobbying of several airlines interested in «land» in the country and, as expected, and are prepared to show their firepower.

In principle, they have already begun to hinder the land noting that «low cost» offer poor service and are characterized by low quality and safety. At the working level, they have already raised the flags of casualization and appear as strong advocates of maintaining the hegemony of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Austral.

«Decidedly will prevent the arrival of the ‘low cost’. Macri wants to impose a market open skies to undermine the achievements of the sector through Airlines,» he told iProfesional Sergio Merco, secretary of the Association of Aeronautical Personnel ( APA). «Along with wanting to break the business flagship airline, companies arriving want disciplining pilots, technicians and ground personnel. We are going way to exploitation and against decent working conditions,» he said.

With more than 10,000 members, APA is the guild with more firepower in the local airline business. Merco said that this «resistance» and order shall be borne by the Argentina Federation of Aeronautical Personnel (FAPA), totaling more than 20,000 workers between different organizations.

Opening and privileges
Just as the unions began as associate the arrival of the «low cost» with the concept of job insecurity, others concerning the sector see it as the kickoff for the arrival of heavy investment.

Analysts like Franco Rinaldi emphasize that the eventual «stop» in meeting minimum ticket prices mean opening up a market that has been one of the most closed in the world.

«The obstacles have remained in Argentina for years made this activity becomes one of the tightest at the international level, comparable for example with Iran,» he said. «In fact, our country is head to head with Venezuela in the ranking of the ones that have blocked the expansion,» he added.

In his vision, materialize the arrival of the «low cost» a chance to grow strong, reduce costs and emphasize internal traffic will open. According to Rinaldi, domestic flights nationwide are among the most expensive in dollar throughout the region.

Hence, according to the specialist domestic passenger flow grew just 20% within 15 years, far from the numbers displayed in Chile (180%), Brazil (160%) or Colombia (140%).

«The potential of Argentina is huge. If the government develops the Belgrano Plan which includes most airports- infrastructure, reduce rates and implementing measures to improve productivity, become cheaper flights enormously,» remarked the expert.

As an example, he said that a flight Buenos Aires-Cordoba could be worth less than $ s50. «The downside to all this materializes will come on the side of those who today control the business and, above all, by the pressure exerted by the unions,» he says.

Other experts consulted by iProfesional ensure that the resistance of the unions respond mainly to attempt to keep the «privileges» that achieved in recent years.

Moreover, following the decision of handing kirchnerismo Aerolineas entire operative to exert an almost absolute mastery of the sector, with the group La Campora in charge of strategic activities, such as handling sleeves and luggage. «Unions do not want changes in the ‘quintita’ who have managed to create during these years,» said an analyst strictly off the record.

In principle, labor costs and local regulation are two items that rankean high on the list of variables that complicate the drop in prices nationwide. As for the second point, Rinaldi illustrated thus: «Pilots flying from Buenos Aires to Madrid enjoy a full week of rest Besides having all these days off payments, receive 100 euros a day.».

For the interviewee, another cause of chronic deficit and hold Austral Airlines is the number of employees they have. Even categorizes its operations as a «ministerial logic».

According to the flag line, the company now has about 12,300 employees, of which more than half is ground staff. The rest, crew, technicians, pilots and abroad, in that order.

Of all firms operating in the region, Aerolíneas is the one that has the largest number of workers in relation to passengers, including their peers in SkyTeam.

1.4 -you (employees) per 1,000 (people flying)

Avianca -In this indicator averages 0.8

Latam, this figure is around 0,78

Rinaldi said that Decree 671 which regulates the hours of rest of the crew before taking another flight- is another factor that makes the costs are much higher than in other firms.

Over the years, this forced companies operating in Argentina must hire more employees than anywhere else in the world.

«For example, LAN Argentina has in a labor cost up to 30% higher than in Chile or Brazil,» he said.

From this perspective, they do not seem sustainable the claims made by the union leaders.

Of course, no shortage of voices associated opening macrismo to promoting a policy to reduce the budgetary resources allocated to airlines strategy. «To enable more companies will allow you to reduce the heavy dependence of the flag line to join some points and, consequently, dosing spending,» says a specialist who asked not to be named.

She also argues that, as is today the market, applying a larger cut would lead to serious conflicts, with two air monopolizing flights. «The industrial action would cause chaos. The government wants to reduce the red airlines and low cost could help, although you have to see how they react all other firms, including LAN» he says.
union reaction
Both FAPA and from the guild APA’s position before the eventual arrival of the «low cost» is absolute opposition.

Regarding the possible arrival of Avianca, from the Federation they stated: «We have a strong presumption that will not recognize the representation of our unions and seek the creation of unions of convenience to impose conditions far below the now existing».

«We note with concern the attempt of various sectors in wanting changes in regulations to carry out a labor flexibility» he said.

For now, the unions and made known to the minister Dietrich its total condemnation of the arrival of the «low cost». At a meeting they demanded, among other things:

That the floor of the tariff band remains

Which obliges LAN to make further investments

Which they are respected and privileges Southern Airlines

Merco, APA, charged against the «low cost» ensuring that threaten not only on the quality of service but also with security.

According to the spokesman, they outsource the operation and not be liable to any complications that may have passengers.

«Macri what he is doing is imposing the heavens opened to harm unions. The ‘low cost’ generate very little employment, provide poor quality services at unusual times,» he said.

In another, he argued that in the places where they operate using pilots as «machines», with all that that implies for safety. Merco to assume that the «low cost» work in Argentina as in Europe is something «crazy» because «the distances are greater and prevent lower prices at these levels.» «One aspect that is omitted companies that operate with turboprop planes. It fly slower and have no other aircraft response. That risk is rarely discussed,» he said. «Not the same number of miles from a Paris-Rome Buenos Aires-Tucumán» he said as an example.

In his view, the «low cost» will not make the difference that is supposed beforehand because it is financially impossible. «What the government is seeking to limit the domain of discipline Aerolíneas guilds, two issues that will prevent,» he said. A\W

Airbus and Boeing, the reasons for the negotiations with Iran

The real reason Boeing, Airbus deals with Iran matter

TEHRAN, Iran — Soon after the US Treasury Department granted licenses to Boeing and Airbus to sell passenger planes to Iran, Tehran welcomed the move as a fulfillment of American obligations under the nuclear deal. On Sept. 24, three days after the licenses were issued, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif confirmed that Iran had received the green light to purchase 80 out of the 88 aircraft it had sought to buy from Boeing, adding, “Out of 118 Airbus jetliners, the license for selling 17 has been issued.”

Airbus and Boeing had previously agreed to sell or lease more than 200 passenger planes to Iran, which has sought to revamp its aging air fleet after the signing of the July 14, 2015, Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). After the formal Jan. 16 Implementation Day of the nuclear deal, the US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued documents declaring that all US institutions wishing to sell or lease aircraft, spare parts or maintenance and safety services to Iran could apply for licenses on a case-by-case basis. OFAC guidelines further stipulated that non-US institutions also need licenses for selling and leasing aircraft to Iran if more than 10% of the components of their products are American made.

Beyond the issue of securing licenses to sell the aircraft is the challenge of financing the deals. Hinting at this problem, Zarif told the Council on Foreign Relations in New York Sept. 23, “The US Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control … tells international banks that it’s OK to do business with Iran but — and the buts and ifs are so long — I mean there is one sentence that it is OK to do business with Iran and five pages of ifs and buts. So at the end of the day, these banks say we will take the safe road. We will forget about Iran. And that has been the outcome. No major European bank has started doing business with Iran now, eight months after the deal. And we believe that’s a shortcoming.”

According to what has been reported so far, the Boeing and Airbus passenger planes are not going to be bought in cash but rather financed. In practice, this means that Iran will buy the aircraft with loans and will repay the debt through revenue generated from operating the planes. Thus, not only is a bank or other financial institution needed to make the deal happen, but the loans must be long term. The broader implication is that if Iran is able to purchase aircraft through external financing, it could also do so with regard to other projects.

While negotiations to finalize the aircraft deals are still ongoing, Iranian officials say they have made good progress. Indeed, things appear to be particularly moving forward on the crucial issue of financing. On Oct. 14, Tasnim news agency quoted a source in the Iranian government as saying, “Boeing and an American bank are reaching an agreement to finance Iranian purchase of the airliners through a Japanese bank.” Prior reports said that issues related to financing of the Airbus deal had also been solved. On Sept. 24, Iranian Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development Asghar Fakhrieh Kashan told the Iran newspaper, “A financing agreement between Airbus and a big financial institution has been finalized that has remained a secret in order to avert some enemies’ plots.”

Some experts are of the view that the OFAC licenses to Boeing and Airbus are a promising sign that serious banking cooperation between Iran and Europe is around the corner. This would be an important development since major European banks have remained wary of remaining US sanctions and thus refrained from resuming banking ties with Iran — even after the formal implementation of the nuclear deal. As such, Tehran has so far relied on cooperation with smaller European banks while continuing dialogue with the bigger ones. Given the scale of the Boeing and Airbus deals and the need for financing to be long term, it is evident that small banks will not be able to finance the contracts. One can thus expect that major players are involved in the financing, and that the deals may help jump-start business between Iran and major Western banks in the near future. Indeed, beyond authorizing two major deals, OFAC’s licensing of aircraft sales to Iran is giving assurance to the world’s major businesses that it is now possible to resume dealings with the Islamic Republic.

Prominent Tehran economist Saeed Leylaz told Al-Monitor, “The OFAC licenses will have a big psychological impact on major investors and financial enterprises. This matters especially because under immense pressure from Iran and Its European trading partners, the United States now has to abide by its obligations under the JCPOA.” Leylaz added, “Serious cracks have emerged in the most complex and oldest sanctions and this will impact non-nuclear sanctions as well. In as much as Boeing is one of the biggest financial enterprises in the world and the United States, its financial transactions with different US economic sectors will spread to other sectors.”

Al-Monitor also spoke with Tehran-based economist Tahmasb Mazaheri. He agreed that OFAC’s granting of licenses to Boeing and Airbus to deal with Iran is a good sign of the full implementation of the nuclear deal — but argued that the United States has only facilitated the latter after having in effect been forced to do so. Pointing to Iran’s deep and lingering mistrust of the United States, Mazaheri added, “Despite this good sign, we cannot trust the United States to fulfill its promises because in order to be assured of these promises, they must be credible — but the United States is not trustworthy. The United States has so far shown that it doesn’t want to fully implement the JCPOA and its acceptance of its obligations has always been accompanied with strict conditions.” A\W
