LATAM premiada mejor desempeño sostenibilidad América y Europa

La aerolínea Sudamericana LATAM Airlines es la aerolínea ha recibido el premio de Mejor Desempeño en Sostenibilidad en América y Europea y la quinta a nivel mundial, según la evaluación más reciente de Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) realizada por Standard & Poor’s (S&P). La compañía de chileno-brasileña es la única aerolínea de América del Sur que figura en la edición «The Sustainability Yearbook 2023». Este anuario incluye a aquellas empresas que han tenido un crecimiento sobresaliente en la evaluación de su gestión de sostenibilidad y destacan por sus prácticas ambientales, sociales y de gobierno corporativo.

El Director de Asuntos Corporativos y Sostenibilidad de LATAM Airlines, Juan José Toha, ha resaltado que la presencia de la compañía en el estudio de S&P es reflejo del trabajo sistemático que la compañía está haciendo en materia de sostenibilidad a través de acciones concretas como eliminar los plásticos de un solo uso a final del año 2023, avanzar en la hoja de ruta para ser cero residuos a relleno sanitario al 2027 o apostar por la conservación de más de 500.000 hectáreas en Sudamérica.

Para formar parte del anuario, las empresas deben obtener una puntuación dentro del 15% superior de su industria y alcanzar una puntuación de sostenibilidad global de S&P dentro del 30% de la empresa con mejor desempeño de su área. En la edición 2023, de un total de 7.800 empresas evaluadas, 57 fueron aerolíneas, de las cuales, de acuerdo a la evaluación, únicamente cinco entraron en el anuario.

LATAM Airlines lanzó su renovada estrategia de sostenibilidad en Mayo de 2021, siendo el cambio climático, la economía circular y la creación de valor compartidos sus tres pilares básicos. En dicha estrategia se destacaba, de igual modo, su compromiso con la protección de los ecosistemas estratégicos de América del Sur, la migración a un modelo cero residuos a relleno sanitario, y poner a disposición su capacidad de conectividad en beneficio de las comunidades de la región. Las metas establecidas por LATAM Airlines son reducir y compensar el equivalente al 50% de las emisiones domésticas en 2030 y lograr la neutralidad de carbono en 2050.

LATAM Airlines launched its renewed sustainability strategy in May 2021, being climate change, circular economy and the creation of shared value its three basic pillars. The goals established by LATAM Airlines are to reduce and compensate for the equivalent of 50% of domestic emissions in 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.
