DFW Airport and American Airlines reach an agreement to build a new terminal valued at US $ 3 billion dollars

The Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and American Airlines Group will develop a sixth terminal that will open in 2025, the companies said Monday. The DFW Airport will invest US $ 3 billion to US $ 3.5 billion in the construction of Terminal F and the improvement of the current Terminal C. DFW agreed to spend around US $ 500 million to update Terminal C, It was inaugurated with the airport in 1974 and is the only original terminal that has not been renovated.

American and DFW Airport expect that the investment will be financed through bonds and will be paid through airline rates and charges during the validity of the bonds. The DFW airport served 69 million passengers in 2018.

The improvements and investments, contemplated for several years, double the commitment of the region with some of the most important infrastructures in the state. DFW Airport and the economy of Dallas-Fort Worth have grown side by side for decades, and the success of one person would be almost unimaginable without the other. The Dallas metropolitan area often leads the nation in job growth, adding more than 100,000 jobs annually in recent years. Passenger traffic at DFW has grown almost as fast, and air fares have declined significantly, partly because DFW has attracted discount companies such as Spirit Airlines. The airport expects 73 million passengers in 2019, more than 30% more than a decade ago. It is already breaking at the seams, having had to open 15 doors in a satellite terminal so that American can add 100 daily flights this summer. «Today’s announcement sets the stage for the next 50 years at DFW Airport, the airport is growing faster than ever, and needs to keep pace with the Dallas-Fort Worth economy to provide jobs and connections for businesses and families», CEO Sean Donohue said in a statement.

Air Antwerp will start operations with the help of KLM and Irish CityJet

The Belgian Official Gazette recently published the birth of a new airline, Air Antwerp. The shareholders are KLM and the Irish CityJet. They raised an initial capital of 61,500 euros, one third for KLM and the other two thirds for CityJet based in Dublin. The directors of the new company are the Dutchman Willem Alexander Hondius (on behalf of KLM) and the Belgian Johan Maertens, who was also the last head of the VLM liquidated until the end of last year.

Network services

In the first phase, the company wants to connect Antwerp with three destinations, including the London City Airport. That connection was operated by VLM Airlines for years, but that company went into liquidation late last summer after financial problems, after no acquirer was found.

Air Antwerp expects to start at 3Q2019 with a Fokker 50, a regional turboprop aircraft for fifty passengers that VLM Airlines also used at that time. An application for a flight permit (AOC) is being sent to the FPS Mobility. Society needs this to organize commercial flights.

Employees of VLM

The new regional airline also hopes to attract several former employees of VLM Airlines. That company went into liquidation after no buyer was found. A \ W

Netwerkdiensten

Relatives of victims of the plane crash of Global Air in Havana file class action lawsuit

Family members of the victims of the plane crash last year in Havana filed a class action lawsuit against the Mexican airline Global Air, also known Aerolíneas Damojh, as well as against its owner, the Spanish businessman Manuel Rodríguez Campo, the insurance company Ve por Más S.A. and the Financial Group.

Flight CU-972 of Cubana de Aviación (CU-972/CUB972) was a domestic flight of passengers of Global Air leased to Cubana de Aviación. It covered the trip from the José Martí International Airport in Havana, to the Frank País International Airport in Holguín. On May 18, 2018, the aircraft involved, a Boeing 737-200, registration XA-UHZ, crashed minutes after takeoff between the José Martí Airport and the town of Santiago de Las Vegas, in the Boyeros municipality of the Cuban capital. Of the 113 occupants of the aircraft, including six Mexican crew members, three people could be transferred alive to the hospital, however one of them died after 3 days, and another 7 days after the accident.

Family demand

The demand of the fammily of the victims of the CUB-972 flight was presented by the French law firm Barreau de Bordeaux, specialized in representing victims of air accidents, in Mexico City. Once it has been judicially validated, more relatives and heirs of the victims can be united. This civil suit is added to the criminal complaint filed previously with the General Prosecutor of Mexico, for the crime of murder, against Rodríguez Campo, Seguros Ve por Más SA, Grupo Financiero Ve por Más and Aerolíneas Damojh SA. «The action is aimed at the recognition and exaction of all civil liabilities that may arise and arising from the loss in favor of the relatives of the deceased», explained lawyer Carlos Villacorta.

The lawyer said that the request is for the investigations and the necessary measures to be ordered «in order to clarify the criminal acts to the detriment of the victims of the plane crash, so that the accused are summoned and declared in relation to the facts and exercise criminal action before the district judge in turn».  The lawsuit will demand «the payment of all pecuniary and non-pecuniary damages suffered by the claimants». Prior to this lawsuit, family members of three of the passengers filed a lawsuit in a Chicago court alleging that the airline was «negligent in training its pilots».

On May 18, 2018, shortly after taking off from Havana Airport, a Boeing 737-200 chartered by Cubana de Aviación fell to the ground causing the death of 112 people. Only the young Cuban Mailén Díaz Almaguer survived the fatal accident. After a year of investigations, a Cuban government commission announced last Thursday in a brief statement that «the most likely cause of the accident» was a mistake by the crew in calculating the peso.

Mitsubishi Aircraft is redesigning its MRJ-70 aircraft so much that executives now call it «The Concept», a design meant to meet the seat and weight limits faced by airlines while leaving space to include more passengers if the airline’s Clauses Scope of the United States change.

Executives overseeing the Mitsubishi Regional Jet program spoke with reporters on May 10, 2019 during the opening of the new Mitsubishi Aircraft headquarters in the United States in Renton, Washington. Alex Bellamy, Development Director of the MRJ Program, says that the company is moving its headquarters in the United States from Dallas, State of Texas to be near the center of the aerospace industry in the Northwestern United States.

«The concept that replaces the MRJ70 will be compatible with the scope but not limited, what we have been working on is that I think it improved fundamentally with respect to what the MRJ70 was, we do not want to let the rabbit out of the hat», he said. Bellamy

Some industry experts have also called the MRJ-70 the «MRJ76,» referring to the configuration of seats on the plane. The manufacturer will have more to share next June at the Paris Air Show 2019 Air Show. Its MRJ-90 aircraft are being tested with representatives of safety regulators, including the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) and the Office of Civil Aviation of Japan (JCAB).

These flights keep the company fleet occupied. Mitsubishi Aircraft will be present at the Paris Air Show 2019, but it is not programmed to fly an airplane and it is not yet sure if there will be one available for the static screen.

Regional aircraft are the first passenger aircraft built in Japan since the YS-11 turboprop was first produced in 1962 by the now defunct Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation. A \ W

Airbus SE has shown the first signs of buying interest in the aerostructures area of the Canadian manufacturer Bombardier Inc.

The new CEO of Airbus, Guillaume Faury, said the European aerospace consortium could bring the purchase of Bombardier Aerostructures area in Northern Ireland, arguing that it is premature to conclude on a decision. The group based in Toulouse, France, was looking into the possibility of buying the aerostructures division of the Canadian firm in Belfast, Northern Ireland. «We will make sure that whatever happens keeps our interest», Faury said during a visit to London. However, the CEO later said that any discussion of an acquisition was premature.

Airbus SE owns a division of factories in Broughton, in the north of Wales, and in Filton, near Bristol in the United Kingdom. Two weeks have passed since Bombardier announced its plan to exit the commercial aircraft business and end its 30-year relationship with Northern Ireland. Its aerostructures operation, which includes sites next to Belfast City Airport, in Newtownabbey, Dunmurry and Newtownards, employs about 3,600 people.

But the local operation has been significantly reduced in recent years. In November 2018, the Canadian firm announced plans to get rid of 490 jobs, which would reduce its workforce to about half of the 7,356 employees in 2002.

The NI Bombardier division specializes in aircraft components, including engine nacelles (carcasses), fuselages and wings. Fundamentally for Airbus, it manufactures wings for the Airbus A220 aircraft. The European aircraft manufacturer acquired a majority stake in CSeries.

Other interested

The American aerostructures manufacturer Spirit Aerosystems and the aerospace components giant based in Worcestershire, GKN, have been considered as possible candidates for the Bombardier business. Spirit Aerosystems, based in Kansas, which is based in the UK in Prestwick, Scotland, depends heavily on the Boeing 737 MAX and has recently expressed interest in acquisitions to diversify its business. Both firms have refused to comment on any possible movement. But the London Business Department has said that it is in a regular conversation with a wide range of companies.

Bombardier has said that any possible negotiation around the sale will remain confidential. During his visit to London, Guillaume Faury said that Airbus was open to the possibility that the aerostructures business in Northern Ireland would be handled by another external provider. «We believe that the wings are very close to our own business, the production could come from suppliers if they are reliable and have a long-term perspective, these are the options we will see», said the CEO of Airbus.

The workers’ union in Britain warned that a venture capital acquisition of the Bombardier operation could mean the dismissal of 3,600 workers and thousands more in the supply chain. The union has requested that the operation be nationalized if a new owner seeks to break it. A \ W

The Spanish tourism and transport company Globalia will launch a new airline in Brazil

The decision of the company Globalia comes after the opening to foreign companies of air transport in the Republic of Brazil, as announced by the Ministry of Infrastructure of Brazil, Tarcísio Gomes de Freitas. The Brazilian minister said that Globalia’s decision to start air transport services in Brazil is the result of a regulatory change that now allows foreign companies to control airlines in the country, something that was not possible before. «It is the first airline that decides to operate in Brazil after the new legislation, it will hire people locally and increase competition in the sector,» said Freitas.

The new legislation in Brazil that allows foreign ownership of airlines still needs final approval from the Brazilian Congress, something that is expected to happen next week.

Globalia owns the airline Air Europa and companies in the tourism sector, including hotel operators and travel services such as Travelplan and Groundforce. A \ W
