EC new sanctions on Belarus

European Commission new sanctions on airlines with routes to Minsk

The President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, has called this Monday 08/11 to the European Union (EU) to expedite the expansion of the sanctions regime against the Republic of Belarus in response to its hybrid attack by facilitating the irregular passage of thousands of migrants to Poland; and she has pointed out among the possible targets the airlines of third countries that maintain routes with Minsk. «The EU will study in particular how to sanction third-country airlines that participate in trafficking in human beings, for example by establishing a black list», said Von der Leyen in a statement in which he considered unacceptable the instrumentalization by of Alexander Lukashenko’s regime of migration.

The Commissioner for the Interior, Ylva Johansson, has delved into this line by stating through Twitter that the urgent priority of the community bloc must be to cut the supply to the Minsk Airport, after censuring that the Belarusian authorities attract migrants on flights to Belarus and then I left them trapped at the border with the European Union. In addition to Poland, other neighboring countries of Belarus such as Lithuania and Latvia denounce that Lukashenko tries to blackmail the European Union by increasing migratory pressure, facilitating flights from third countries such as Iraq or Turkey to illegally reach the border of the community bloc. «The Belarusian authorities must understand that pressuring the European Union with the cynical instrumentalization of migrants will not help them in their ends. The instrumentalization of migrants for political purposes by Belarus is unacceptable (…). Belarus must stop putting lives away. in danger», Von der Leyen warned late on Monday 08/11, after the arrival of hundreds of migrants on the border between Belarus and Poland. She has maintained contacts in the last hours with the Prime Ministers of Poland, Mateusz Morawiecki; Lithuania, Ingrida Simonyte and Latvia, Arturs Krisjanis Karins. In addition, German policy has advanced that the vice president of the Commission responsible for Migration, Margaritis Schinas, will travel in the coming days to the countries of origin and transit of these migrants to convince their authorities to take measures to prevent them from falling into the trap set by the Belarusian authorities. The European Commission will also study together with the UN and its specialized agencies how to avoid humanitarian crises and ensure that migrants can return safely to their countries of origin.

The Government of Poland has denounced the advance of hundreds of migrants into Belarusian territory and has accused the Government of President Alexander Lukashenko of orchestrating this massive movement and of deploying security forces to escort migrants to the EU border. In addition to the need to tighten the response to Minsk, Brussels has also turned to Poland to ask it to allow agents from the European agencies Frontex and Europol to enter its border to help control irregular passage and ensure adequate and dignified care. of asylum seekers and other arriving migrants. The Community Executive, which has tried unsuccessfully in recent weeks to get Warsaw to allow community experts to travel to the area, recalled this Monday that the deployment of Frontex and Europol agents would help the Polish authorities to manage migratory pressure, but that They cannot travel to the area without formal request from the Polish Government.

Alaska cancela orden A320NEO

AW | 2021 11 05 21:39 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

Alaska Airlines finalmente cancela 30 aviones A320NEO

Alaska_Airlines_Isologotype

Alaska cancels A320NEO order

Alaska Airlines finally cancels 30 A320NEO jets

AW-A320NEO_Isologotype_001

Alaska Airlines has announced the cancellation of thirty (30) Airbus A320NEO aircraft from the order book made to the European manufacturer Airbus Group. Airbus released updated order and delivery numbers for October 2021 with no Airbus A320NEO orders being recorded for Alaska Airlines. Additionally, Alaska Airlines has also indicated that it no longer has any remaining Airbus aircraft orders pending delivery.

The American airline has reversed the order established in its opportunity to complement an Airbus-Boeing binomial fleet resulting from the acquisition of Virgin America Airlines in 2018, it has been inclined to standardize and homogenize it towards the Boeing 737 MAX fleet. However, he kept the order for quite some time before finally canceling it. In this way, Airbus loses Alaska Airlines as a customer for future new orders as an Airbus A320NEO customer.

Alaska Airlines had inherited an order for thirty Airbus A320NEO aircraft when it acquired Virgin America Airlines in 2018. Alaska Airlines had a fleet of Boeing 737s, while Virgin America had a fleet of Airbus A320s. Both airlines had complementary route networks, but over time the fleet would represent a disadvantage to keep operating costs low to be competitive in the market. By 2020, Alaska Airlines operated a mixed B737-A320 fleet. Boeing was also a financial supporter of the Virgin America acquisition. In a report in the Seattle Times, former Boeing Commercial Airplanes CEO Ray Conner stated that Boeing had provided Alaska with a $ 400 million loan secured by Alaska’s existing commitments to acquire the 737 MAX line. The relationship between Alaska and Boeing was quite strong. The slogan «Proudly All Boeing» was also pasted on the nose of its main fleet of Boeing 737s.

Although the company wished to standardize the fleet towards Boeing 737s, it could not officially announce the retirement dates of the Airbus A320 fleet due to the unavailability of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Airbus orders remained on the book, but the airline defined them as a cancellable order. In the latest schedule, the first of these aircraft was scheduled for delivery starting in 2024. However, it became clear in December 2020 that Alaska Airlines would not take on any of these Airbus A320NEO aircraft orders. Maintaining the Airbus A320NEO order book had some competitive advantage for Alaska Airlines. If Boeing were somehow unable to meet the needs of its fleet, it could look to Airbus to renegotiate a price that would keep Alaska flying a mixed fleet without assuming the additional cost pressures. Finally, Alaska Airlines and The Boeing Company reached an agreement in favor of maintaining a uniform fleet going forward. Currently, the ten Airbus A321NEO (10) aircraft in the fleet will remain for a certain time until homogenization is complete, tilting their balance towards a traditionally Boeing 737 fleet.

Alaska, new orders

Alaska Airlines in a quarterly presentation published on Thursday 04/11 has detailed that its order book consisted only of Boeing 737 MAX 9 (74) and Embraer E175 (12), eliminating the thirty units of the A320NEO aircraft. It currently maintains a fleet of ten A321NEO units (10). Alaska Airlines began its actual transition back to a fully Boeing fleet in November 2020. The airline announced a new transaction that would lead to the exchange of ten Airbus A320CEOs (10) from the Alaska fleet in favor of leases for thirteen new Boeing 737-9 MAX (13) aircraft from Air Lease Corporation. In December 2020, the Seattle-Tacoma-based (WA) airline announced an increase in its order for Boeing 737 MAXs to total 68 new aircraft. This included the 737 MAX leases announced in November 2020, announcing the acceleration of the retirement of the Airbus A320CEO aircraft, so that all those aircraft would leave the fleet by 2023, to focus on a homogeneous fleet of the 737 MAX line.

Alaska added some firm 737 MAX jets several times this year and filled in some options as well. It has a history of taking all of your ordering options, which could be a great deal for your fleet, and it can also help facilitate a 737 Next Generation fleet renewal in favor of fourth-generation 737 MAX aircraft.

Norwegian arrienda 13 Boeing 737

Norwegian perspectiva de flota Airbus & Boeing narrowbodies

Norwegian leases 13 Boeing 737s

Norwegian has resolved to selectively add to its growing fleet of aircraft by leasing thirteen Boeing 737-800 Next Generation aircraft amid expectations of increased demand for travel in the northern summer of 2022. The batch of aircraft are scheduled to be delivered from the fourth. quarter of 2021 and the first quarter of 2022, the recently rejuvenated low-cost carrier described in a presentation of the Oslo Stock Exchange on October 27, 2021.

The Norwegian airline has not made an announcement of the lessor/s, but has expressed that they have experience and have previous relationships with Norwegian. The lease terms are between five and eight years, depending on the age of the aircraft, and include hourly block energy agreements for both the current winter seasons and the 2022/23 winter seasons, allowing Norwegian to offer the flexibility to manage capacity during the off-season as the world emerges from the pandemic. Norwegian said it would also have the right, under some of the leases, to substitute Boeing 737s with new-technology narrow-body jets from Boeing or Airbus. This will allow Norwegian to continue its focus on offering the most environmentally friendly travel options.

Norwegian CEO Geir Karlsen had confirmed in early October 2021 that growing demand meant the fleet needed to grow again, from fifty-one Boeing 737-800s (51) today, operated per hour block all the way. of the first quarter of 2022, to between 60 and 70 units for the next European summer.

Summarizing its traffic data for October 2021, Norwegian revealed on November 3, 2021 that demand has continued to respond well to its post-restructuring approach on routes in the Nordic countries and within Europe. It carried 1,203,205 passengers during the month, with a load factor of 82.7%. Geir Karlsen highlighted in the statement that «we are seeing an increase in bookings in our European network.» Norwegian also recently reported its results for the third quarter of 2021, posting a net profit of NOK 169 million Crowns/US$ 19.8 million compared to a loss of NOK 980 million/US$ 114.8 million in the same period in 2020. «Continued cost control across the company, combined with low cash burn, has resulted in a strong financial position entering the winter period with NOK 7.6 billion/US$ 890 million in cash and equivalents. strict focus on costs and expenses places Norwegian in a much stronger position during the winter months than in previous years. Booking curves continue to show a positive trend well into 2022″, said Norwegian CEO.

The Board of Directors confirmed in an outlook statement in the results that the airline planned an increase to around seventy (70) short-haul aircraft in 2022. However, the continued increase in fuel prices is expected to partially offset the positive recovery of the company from the effects of the pandemic. He also warned that the Covid-19 situation is continually changing and new laws and regulations that affect the company’s operations may come into effect.

Norwegian Spain

Norwegian Air Resources Spain, a wholly Norwegian-owned subsidiary responsible for pilots and cabin crew in that country, has emerged from bankruptcy, although Red Handling Spain and Red Maintenance Spain, responsible for ground services and MRO at the Spanish bases of the airline, remain under bankruptcy protection. All three units filed for protection against creditors in December 2020.

Last month Norwegian informed its entire remaining crew, having laid off 975 workers, which currently has 146 cabin crew and 86 licensed pilots, of its intention to fully reinstate them as of November 2021 to meet growing demand. traffic, staff representatives said.

Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA, operating as Norwegian, is a Norwegian low-cost airline and the largest airline in Norway. It is the fourth largest low-cost airline in Europe behind Wizz Air, easyJet and Ryanair, the second largest airline in Scandinavia and the ninth largest airline in Europe in terms of number of passengers. Norwegian has its base of operations in Oslo / Gardermoen. Currently, it has a fleet of 95 aircraft, covering 97 destinations with 182 routes and 212 daily flights.

Norwegian leier 13 Boeing 737

Norwwegian_Isologotype

Air France-KLM iniciativa SBTi

AW | 2021 11 03 09:55 | AIRLINES / AVIATION TECHNOLOGY

Air France-KLM acelera su transición medioambiental

Air_France-KLM.svg

The Air France-KLM Group has established to accelerate its environmental transition with the commitment through the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), to establish targets in accordance with the Paris Agreement, to limit global warming. Air France-KLM Group and its companies continue to mobilize to reduce their environmental footprint in a process of transparency and responsibility in the face of the challenges of global warming. Air France-KLM are committed to having their CO2 emission reduction targets validated by the independent reference body SBTi, founded by the CDP (Carbon Disclosure Project), the United Nations Global Compact and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). SBTi assesses and verifies the CO2 reduction targets of companies, based on a scientific approach and criteria, ensuring that the targets are compatible with the Paris Agreement.

• Air France-KLM is committed to setting additional CO2 reduction targets by 2035, in addition to its ambition to achieve net zero emissions by 2050
• The Group will present these objectives for validation by SBTi in the first half of 2022.
• The science-based targeting approach aims to limit global warming to well below 2° C, in accordance with the Paris Agreement.

The commitment letter signed today with SBTi puts the Air France-KLM Group and its companies on the path set by this Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to well below 2 ° C. Air France-KLM is one one of the first European airline groups that has decided to have SBTi validate its decarbonisation track record. This important new step in the Group’s decarbonization strategy complements its goal of net zero emissions in 2050. “The climate emergency is the biggest challenge facing our industry today. All the Group’s employees and their companies have taken steps to reduce their environmental footprint for many years, but today we need to accelerate our transition to more sustainable air transport. The SBTi commitment demonstrates our determination to achieve this by setting our emissions reduction trajectory within an indisputable and demanding scientific framework. We sign this commitment because we are confident in our ability to successfully carry out this transition, with our employees, our customers and all of our partners», says Benjamin Smith, CEO of the Air France-KLM Group.

The decarbonisation trajectory of the Air France-KLM group is mainly based on:
• An ambitious plan to renew the Group’s fleet with new generation aircraft that emit between 20 and 25% less CO2. Between 2019 and 2021, the Group invested 2.5 billion euros to renew the fleet.
• The use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). These are non-fossil in nature and are produced from industrial or household waste in a circular economy and do not compete with the human food chain. Air France and KLM have been pioneers in the use of these energy sources, which will play a key role in the decarbonisation of air transport, as they reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 80% over the entire life cycle. . Currently, the Group is working to make these fuels more accessible in terms of quantity and price by creating a real sustainable aviation industry in Europe.
• The search for greater efficiency in its operations, favoring more direct routes and applying procedures that limit fuel consumption (lightening the weight of aircraft, taxiing with one engine, continuous descent). Air France and KLM set the goal of carbon neutrality for ground operations by 2030.

In addition, Air France-KLM is mobilizing the entire sector and is committed to the research and development of innovative solutions, in the field of aeronautical design and maintenance, engines or synthetic fuels, that allow progressively to achieve a total absence of carbon in aviation.

AW | 2021 11 03 00:22 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Ministry of Labor dictates Compulsory Conciliation

In the context of the conflict between GOL Linhas Aéreas and unionized employees in the Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA) and the Union of Air Navigation Personnel of Private Entities (UPADEP), the Ministry of Labor of Argentina had to intervene which this Monday 02/11 issued a mandatory conciliation to avoid some two hundred layoffs. The unions involved, APA and UPADEP, denounce the arbitrary dismissal of two hundred workers.

As detailed in the resolution of the conciliation determined by the Ministry of Labor of Argentina «it is necessary to have the pertinent measures to promote a peaceful and legal solution to the conflict raised», said Claudio Moroni, conductor of the portfolio. Meanwhile, the conciliation will be of fifteen days, in which the workers will not be able to carry out any measure of force and the company will have to seek a solution to the conflict. As detailed from the unions, the dismissed workers are 170 from APA and 30 from UPADEP and these dismissals have to do with a decision by the airlines to advance with outsourced personnel.

Faced with the dismissals by the Brazilian airline, APA denounced the unilateral and arbitrary dismissal of approximately 150 company workers. «APA had denounced the illegal nature of the dismissals, as well as the highly suggestive, unfair and unethical attitude of the GOL company in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, of sending the telegrams surprisingly, after almost two years of negotiations with APA to maintain the jobs in the worst moments of the sanitary crisis , they maintained from the aeronautical unions. In this context, they denounced GOL’s decision to replace all its personnel with outsourced personnel as of the restart of its flights and the absurd business position of being a judge and a party, by denying the legitimate union representation of APA over the majority of your own staff and assign it to another guild. «APA will abide by the provisions of Article 6 of the mandatory conciliation resolution, where it urges the parties in conflict to maintain the best predisposition and openness to negotiate the issues on which they maintain differences and thus contribute to peace. social and improve the framework of labor relations within the company involved», remarked from the union groups. But they warned that «with the same firmness, APA will continue to exercise, during and after the mandatory conciliation, by all union and legal means, the unrestricted defense of the rights and interests of its GOL Linhas Aéreas affiliates».

Resumption of services

GOL Linhas Aéreas announced the return of its flights to Buenos Aires as of December 19, 2021. Its operations from Argentina operated in Buenos Aires/AEP, Buenos Aires/EZE, Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza to Sao Paulo and Río de Jan, as well as Florianópolis. The new rescheduling of flights will be carried out with Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with capacity for 176 passengers on international routes. From both Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, GOL Linhas Aéreas will have daily flights to Buenos Aires from 12/19. For Santa Catarina and with a view to the summer season, two weekly flights are initially planned between Florianópolis and Buenos Aires, also starting on 12/19.

Conflict in Latam Argentina

The pandemic also brought conflicts in other airlines such as Latam Airlines Argentina, where the dismissed workers have been carrying out actions and protests so that they fulfill their commitment to work continuity with the laid-off personnel, after the airline decided last year to abandon its operations in the country. “We are asking for labor reintegration within what is the commercial aviation sector. There are minutes of the Ministry of Transportation in which they commit to our reintegration in the field. We have been complaining for almost twenty months, we are not going to get tired and we are going to continue fighting. Now in Latam they are checking flights as if nothing had happened while there were 1,700 families that were left on the street”, said the fired worker Leonardo Ruiz at the march.
