AW-Icon AW002

Turkish Airlines and The Boeing Company have made a compensation agreement for Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Although the factory has not specified the payment amount, sources from the Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported it was agreed at US$ 225 million, which includes US$ 150 million in compensation and US$ 75 million covering spare parts and training.

The Boeing 737 MAX has been on the ground since March 2019 after two plane crashes, one of Lion Air in Indonesia (JT-610) and Ethiopian Airlines (ET-302), which has cost the aircraft manufacturer more of US$ 9 billion so far.

Analysts say that the total extent of the damage suffered by customers of the Boeing airline would depend on the time of return to service of 737 MAX, making an agreement between the aircraft manufacturer and Turkish Airlines remarkable while the plane remains on the ground. «Either they [Turkish Airlines] have a pretty clear idea of when this will end, or the airline has somehow aligned an alternative ability to mitigate the damage at this point», said Richard Aboulafia, Vice President of Analysis for Teal aviation consultancy Group

Turkish-Boeing Agreement

In December 2019, a media report said Turkish Airlines was preparing to open a court case against Boeing regarding its losses. Turkish is one of several airlines that have been seeking compensation from Boeing for the financial impact of the grounding.

Boeing has made compensation to Turkish Airlines worth about US$ 225 million. With a third of the compensation in the form of future services, the agreement also extends the cost of Boeing in the coming years. Turkish Airlines had received 12 Boeing 737-8 MAX before grounding. The Turkish company has a total of 75 units ordered.

Other airlines

Southwest Airlines, the world’s largest Boeing 737 MAX operator, said in early December 2019 that it had reached a confidential agreement with Boeing for a portion of a projected impact of US$ 830 million on operating revenues in 2019.

European charter airline TUI Airlines said on Tuesday 31/12 that it was still in talks with Boeing. «We are at the negotiating table», spokesman Martin Riecken said, adding that TUI hoped to reach an agreement with Boeing, but was still considering legal action. TUI was operating 15 of the critical aircraft before they were on the ground and has another eight in order.

TUI said that the ground connection cost € 293 million/US$ 328.69 million in its last financial year and that the bill could reach € 400 million in the current year, depending on when it returns to service on 737 MAX

Boeing has acknowledged that it will not be able to achieve its goals for 2019 and has announced that it will stop production of the 737 MAX line in January 2020. AW-Icon AW002

Pilotendo las demandas a Boeing

737maxfeat (1).pngAW | 2019 12 30 19:57 | AVIATION SAFETY / INDUSTRY

Caso Timaero Ireland Ltd.

Companies, renters seek economic repair for the Boeing 737 MAX. Airbus happens to lead the narrowbodies market

Airlines with orders and deliveries of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft such as Southwest Airlines to Icelandair have reached compensation agreements with Boeing. There are reports that numerous airlines and lessors are not happy with The Boeing Company offering minimal compensation, preferring to give a discount on future orders instead of cash in advance where Boeing is discouraging lawsuits.

Case of Timaero Ireland Ltd.

The lawsuit against The Boeing Company by the landlord Timaero Ireland Ltd., based in Dublin, a subsidiary of Russian-owned VEB Leasing JSC seeks economic compensation for the grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX.

Timaero Ireland Ltd. stated before the Federal Court of Chicago in December 2019 that: «Boeing in this crisis of 737 MAX was motivated by greed, fraud committed knowingly, has left the plane worthless and the public has lost total confidence in the security of 737 MAX «.

The Russian-Irish leasing company seeks a repair for damages worth US$ 185 million for its order book of 22 Boeing 737 MAX. The compensation not specified is for the loss of earnings and that the punitive damages are calculated by calculating three times the amount of the compensatory damages. In addition, the leasing company wishes to cancel its contract with Boeing for the total number of aircraft in conflict.

Timaero Ireland Ltd. makes statements with which Boeing already agreed or that it could be fair. But there are also panoramic views that Boeing can find controversy. Instead of the demand is a formula for more 737 MAX buyers to sue Boeing, Timaero may be an atypical case due to its unique commercial situation. Timaero has received only two 737 MAX, at least one of which is leased to Eastar Jet in Korea through the Russian VEB Leasing JSC. Eastar Jet has encountered financial problems due to the 737 MAX base, as well as the wider changes in the Korean market as a result of a slowdown in travel to Japan and weaker consumer sentiment due to the strengthening of the Korean won. The rival Jeju Air agreed in December 2019 to buy 51% of Eastar Jet.

Timaero may be willing and can cancel your 737 MAX order, recover pre-delivery payments and perhaps other costs. But other landlords, as well as airlines, need to receive the best result while continuing to have competition between Airbus and Boeing.

Turkish Airlines case

Turkish Airlines was preparing a similar lawsuit to obtain financial reparations for the Boeing 737 MAX crisis. Turkish Airlines is preparing to open a court case against Boeing due to uncertainty about the aircraft manufacturer’s 737 MAX plane. Turkish Airlines declined to comment on the news report. The airline has 24 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in its fleet. In May 2019, its President said that the company expected compensation for losses suffered by the grounding of the aircraft.

AW-Airbus-Boeing.png

Airbus leads with A320 Family

The situation on the other side of the Atlantic is more favorable. The decade that ends has been excellent for Airbus, although, compared to Boeing, Europe is relatively new in commercial passenger aviation. While the Boeing 737 and its variants are the most popular passenger aircraft in history, they entered service in 1967 and produced more than 10,500 units; the A318/A319/A320/A321 competitors did not fly until 1988. Even so, with two decades remaining, the A320 Family is already very close to the US aircraft, with just over 9,000 units produced.

Although Airbus Group has 20 years less experience, it has won on two criteria: the total number of flights and hours flown from the A320 Family. In 2010, 737 was still at the top of the ranking of commercial aircraft by the number of scheduled flights. With 7,533,126 flights, the Boeing plane led the way, while the Airbus A320 family had 6,577,349 in second place. Currently, both the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320 dominated passenger flights in general. In the third place, Canadair Regional Jet had 2,676,118 flights.

But the image has changed significantly since then. The A320 Family now leads in terms of flights. In 2019, the A320 family registered 12,762,758 passenger flights, now more than 20% above the Boeing 737, which flew 10,478,659 times. The flight time situation by model follows a similar trajectory. 737 was the market leader in 2010 with 921,308,722 minutes of flight, while the A320 family was second with 853,238,299 minutes. Advancing to 2019, the Airbus A320 family also surpassed the Boeing 737 in terms of flight time. With 1,772,333,624 minutes in the air, the A320 family returns to place above 737, which has a total of 1,507,650,968 minutes.

The growth of Airbus has doubled the total number between 2010 and 2019 from 6.57 to 12.76 million, while Boeings only increased by 40% from 7.53 to 10.47 million. Embraer, whose family of E-Jets E170/E175/E190/E195 is the only one that grew more than 100%, from 1.19 to 2.60 million and took third place easily.

This impressive expansion shows exactly how a good decade was for the Airbus commercial aviation industry. Due to the 737 MAX crisis, Airbus, knowing that it is the only alternative, may not have to set such an aggressive price on orders for airlines, working advantageously as the only leading manufacturer in the global narrowbodies aircraft market. AW-Icon AW002

Tarom Airlines operates on international and national routes with a fleet of 25 aircraft: ATR-42-500 (7), ATR-72 (2), Boeing 737-700 (4), Boeing 737-300 (4), Boeing 737- 800 (4) and Airbus A318 -111 (4).

Financial situation

Earlier this month, Romania’s transport ministry said it will seek rescue assistance from the European Commission and the national budget to save TAROM, which is expected to close 2019 with a loss of 190 million lei ($ 44 million / 40 million euros). The ministry will request 47 million Euros ($ 52.3 million) in aid from Brussels plus a restructuring aid of approximately 110 million euros from the state budget to rescue the company, Lucian Bode said at the time. The net loss of the airline was reduced to 130 million Lei in 2018 from 170 million Lei in the previous year, while turnover increased 21% to 1.4 billion Lei, according to data from the transport ministry.

In October 20109, TAROM appointed George Costin Barbu as interim CEO after Valentin Nicolae Gvinda refused to take office in the midst of a political scandal involving a possible instigation of abuse of office. Barbu’s term will expire in January 2020. According to local media reports, Gvinda refused to accept the work of interim CEO due to the complicated financial and administrative situation at TAROM Airlines. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002

Boeing-Logo.svg.pngBoeing finishes the production of the 737 Next Generation line

The Boeing Company has finished the production of the Boeing 737 Next Generation line. On December 18, 2019, Boeing delivered the last aircraft built for airlines, with the serial number SN: 63624. The plane a Boeing 737-800 was delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with the registration number PH-BCL, officially finishing production of the fourth generation of Next Generation (NG) aircraft.

Boeing 737 Next Generation

The Boeing 737 Next Generation, commonly abbreviated Boeing 737NG, is the name given to the −600, -700, -800 and -900 series of the Boeing 737 passenger aircraft. It is the third generation derived from the 737 and follows the series 737 Classic [−300/-400/-500], which began production in the 1980s. They are short and medium-range narrow-body jet aircraft. Produced since 1996 by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the 737NG series includes four variants with a capacity of between 110 and 210 passengers. Until the end of December 2017, a total of 6658 737NG aircraft had been delivered, with more than 7000 orders. The variants -700, -800, and -900ER have pending orders and are in production, but orders for -600 models and -900 have already been completed. The main competition of the 737NG is the Airbus A320 family. Improved models with new engines under development, such as the 737 MAX or the Airbus A320NEO, will eventually replace the 737NG.

The first Next Generation was a Boeing 737-700, the built 737 # 2843, flew for the first time on February 9, 1997, with pilots Mike Hewett and Ken Higgins. The −800 prototype left the production line on June 30, 1997, and flew for the first time on July 31, 1997, piloted by Jim McRoberts and Hewett. The smallest of the new variants, the -600 series, is almost identical in size to -500, was launched in December 1997, with the initial flight on January 22, 1998; FAA certification was granted on August 18, 1998.

737 KLM

The Boeing 737-800NG made the flight directly from the Boeing factory in Seattle to Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport, with flight number KLM-9870. With this new aircraft, the introduction of the Next Generation line in the Dutch company ends by completing 31 aircraft in the fleet.

Completion line 737 NG

Boeing has completed the serial production of the Boeing 737 Next Generation. At the same time, the outstanding fact is that as of January 2020, the production of all Boeing 737 commercial models will be suspended for the first time in 53 years, due to the increase in stock and the associated operating costs, to determine the test of Safety in the MCAS Control System of the new fourth-generation Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The only lines of the Boeing 737 that have remained in production are the P-8 Poseidon military version and the Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) that will continue to leave the Renton, Washington factory until they finish their formal orders. AW-Icon AW002

Boeing-Logo.svgThe Boeing Company continues with profound management changes

The Boeing Company has made significant progress in recent months in support of safely returning the Boeing 737 MAX to service while the company continues to work with the FAA and other global regulators in the process established to certify the Boeing 737 MAX MCAS Software and related training updates. The company has also made major operational and governance changes to further sharpen its focus. These two tragic accidents continue to weigh on everyone on Boeing. We have established a support fund of US$ 100 million to meet the family and community needs of people affected by these accidents.

Public opinion

Boeing promotes the safety of 737 MAX to the public, where 40% do not want to fly in a MAX. For any passenger uncomfortable to fly in a Boeing 737 MAX after their two fatal accidents and their grounding around the world, the chief of the Boeing 737’s Jennifer Henderson has a message: «When the 737 MAX returns to service, it would put to my family on this plane».

The statement is part of eight videos that Boeing produced to gradually rebuild the public perception of the security of the 737 MAX. They appear on the website to which visitors are directed from 737MAXupdates.com, a domain that records show that Boeing bought in October, but has made few references. The site will be part of the Boeing toolkit for airlines that want to ensure passengers about the MAX when booking and billing a flight. Boeing suggests different methods if a passenger is already at the airport or aboard a MAX. Henderson’s thirty-second clip is accompanied by videos of three other Boeing pilots: Chief Test Pilot Jim Webb, Chief Pilot Craig Bomben and Captain Todd White. His videos claim to be personal and instill confidence in the MAX. «Research shows that emotions drive decision making, so a human connection will be more effective than rational appeals», according to a presentation Boeing made to the airlines this month.

The pilots could be Boeing’s first-line offensive once the plane’s flight is authorized, it is now expected not to be before February 2020. The investigation that Boeing commissioned found that 65% of the public information trusted by the Federal Aviation Administration or other aviation authorities. The next largest source of pilots was 737 MAX with 41%, and then Boeing technical experts with 34%.

Boeing positioned the presentation as to how in the future to build trust between employees and passengers in the 737 MAX, that 40% of respondents were not willing to fly in the Boeing survey of December 9, 2019. That has not changed from another Survey on October 4, but a small improvement since May 29, 2019, when 44% of respondents were not willing to fly the 737 MAX.

Worrisome ties

The new political ties of the new Boeing CEO, David Calhoun, raise concerns, experts say. The newly appointed Boeing CEO, David Calhoun, has been described as a «restructuring specialist» prepared to help the company obtain government approval for its 737 MAX, which the manufacturer has attempted to recover in the air after two crashes which cost hundreds of lives and forced the cancellation of thousands of flights. But the recent campaign contributions made by Calhoun raise questions about the political access he could use to get approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for the plane, lobby experts said.

Such influence could undermine the supervisory role played by the FAA, which has faced post-accident criticism in June 2019 that described the agency’s failure to independently assess the danger of the 737 MAX’s fatal software, called MCAS, before he approved the plane.

Through a follow-up of the donations made by David Calhoun in the political arena, it is possible to suspect dangerous difficulties with public bodies. The campaign donations made by David Calhoun are «very worrying», says Anthony Yahoones, Professor of Political Science at the University of Tennessee. «Money buys access. That does not mean that access necessarily buys a policy, but it is certainly a good start».

AW-7377.jpgBoeing posture

The Boeing movement is quite intelligent. There are few people who have so much power over the company’s future. Boeing said that people affiliated with the company contribute to a number of candidates across the political spectrum, and such donations will not undermine the approval process carried out by the FAA.

«Boeing employees and board members donate to candidates from both parties that support important policies for our economic and national security. We trust that the FAA and global regulators are involved in very solid and rigorous supervision of the MAX, independent of politics», said Gordon Johndroe, Vice President of Media Relations at Boeing.

Board of Directors advisor retires

The Boeing Company announced on 12/26 that J. Michael Luttig, 65, a valuable advisor and senior advisor to the Boeing Board of Directors, has informed the Board of his long career. Consider retirement at the end of the year. Luttig, who served as general counsel for Boeing since 2006 until he assumed his current responsibilities in May 2019, has been handling legal issues associated with the Lion Air JT-610 and Ethiopian Airlines ET-302 accidents and advising the Board on strategic matters

«Judge Luttig is one of the best legal minds in the nation and has guided our company expertly and tirelessly as a general advisor, advisor, and senior advisor. We are deeply indebted to Judge Luttig for his extraordinary service to Boeing during these almost 14 years, especially during this last and challenging year for our company. The Board and I will always be grateful for the Judge’s remarkable service to The Boeing Company, and personally, I will always be grateful for their friendship», said the Acting President and Chief Executive Officer from Boeing, Greg Smith.

Luttig joined Boeing after serving 15 years in the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Prior to his appointment at the Federal Bank, Luttig served as Assistant Attorney General and Advisor to the Attorney General of the United States. Luttig worked at the White House between 1981 and 1982 under the presidency of Ronald Reagan. From 1982 to 1985, he served as a legal assistant to the then-Judge Antonin Scalia of the United States Court of Appeals for the Circuit of the District of Columbia and, subsequently, as a legal assistant and then as a Special Assistant to the President of the Supreme Court of States United.

«It has been an honor to serve as Boeing General Counsel and as Advisor and Senior Advisor to the Boeing Board of Directors. I will be eternally grateful to The Boeing Company, the Boeing Board of Directors, CEO Dennis Muilenburg and Jim McNerney, and the former Principal Director Ken Duberstein for the opportunity and privilege of serving this great company and the extraordinary men and women who, together, are The Boeing Company, my respect and admiration for these very special men and women, whom I am proud to call to my friends, and for The Boeing Company, it’s endless», Luttig said.

Boeing is the world’s largest aerospace company and the leading provider of commercial aircraft, defense, space and security systems, and global services. As the leading US exporter, the company provides assistance to commercial and government clients in more than 150 countries. Boeing employs more than 150,000 people worldwide and leverages the talents of a global provider base. Based on a legacy of aerospace leadership, Boeing continues to lead in technology and innovation, delivering to its customers and investing in its people and future growth.

IT companies at risk

The main Indian IT companies provide services such as application development, testing, engineering, avionics and business process management for the Boeing 737 MAX program. IT outsourcing contracts of more than US$ 1 billion currently executed by Indian companies are at risk of termination because Boeing has halted the production of its 737 MAX flagship aircraft as of January 2020.

Major IT companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, HCL Technologies, Infosys, Cyient and L&T Technology Services have direct exposure to Boeing or its suppliers’ ecosystem, which would have an impact on short-term finances.

Demands between suppliers

The next Boeing leader will also need to solve a growing problem with a long-standing provider. Boeing sued the manufacturer of the former parts amid leadership struggles for the aerospace giant. Leonardo, an aerospace and defense giant based in Italy, filed a lawsuit on Monday 23/12 against Boeing, a few hours after the dismissal of CEO Dennis Muilenburg. Leonardo says that Boeing suddenly had problems earlier this year with the parts it has supplied for decades, charging tens of millions in repair costs. Apparently, Boeing has refused to pay bills for other parties that Leonardo has provided, in breach of contract, according to the lawsuit.

Leonardo has manufactured slats, aerodynamic surfaces at the edges of the wings that slow down the planes and help them take off and land over shorter distances, for Boeing 767 aircraft since 1979, according to demand. In June 2019, Boeing reported several problems with the slats for the first time, including minor scratches and remnants of foreign objects. Boeing repaired the slats, according to the lawsuit, and then sent Leonardo an invoice for about US$ 26.2 million. Apparently, Boeing promised to withhold payments from other bills of its partner for a long time until the bill has been paid in full.

In court documents, Leonardo said he bills Boeing approximately $ 20 million per year for slats. «This means that, under Boeing’s current claim that he has the right to compensate US$ 26 million against Leonardo’s future bills, the Italian company would be forced to produce slats for Boeing at no cost for more than a year», according to judicial documents

Boeing intensified the dispute in early December 2019 when he warned Leonardo about plans to send a second bill for splint repairs and collateral impact totaling US$ 33 million, according to court documents.

Leonardo argues in the lawsuit that Boeing is pending any repairs because the problems are the result of its «obsolete and/or defective design designs and industrialization processes. Boeing has always been responsible for the design drawings and the specifications they have produced. the slats supposedly ‘non-compliant’ in question, and knows, or should have known, that such designs are likely to produce what are, at most, minor scratches and debris within a closed chamber in the slats». Boeing had never complained about minor ribbon problems before, the lawsuit says.

Leonardo is asking the court to declare Boeing responsible for the repair of the slats and forcing him to resume paying the bills. Leonardo seeks to recover approximately US$ 24 million in costs for products that Boeing «unduly rejected», and additional damages due to the impact that the dispute has had on its financial situation.

The two companies have a long history together, and a tense relationship with an important supplier could increase Boeing’s current problems. In addition to their long relationship, Boeing and Leonardo won a US$ 2.4 billion contract last year to build 84 new helicopters for the United States Air Force. Last year, Leonardo generated revenues of 12,200 million euros (US$ 13,550 million). It has more than 46,000 employees worldwide, including more than 6,000 in the United States.

This struggle in development comes at a critical time for Boeing. CEO Dennis Muilenburg was fired this week amid the continuing consequences of two 737 MAX air accidents. The reaction to leadership change has been largely positive. Boeing’s new CEO David Calhoun will have a difficult task ahead of him to repair the company’s image of the 737 MAX crisis while refocusing on strengthening its technology. AW-Icon AW002

Avalancha pedidos Airbus-US

AW-AIRBUS_Mobile.jpgAW | 2019 12 26 16:50 | INDUSTRY

AW-Icon AW001

AIRBUS USA.pngAirlines fight for Airbus planes manufactured in Alabama

For American airlines, the phrase «Made in America» comes with a completely new financial imperative thanks to the commercial struggle between the Trump administration and Europe. In October 2019, the White House imposed a 10% tariff on airplanes built in Europe as part of a broader conflict over aviation industry subsidies. The move followed a decision by the World Trade Organization that EU assistance to Europe-based Airbus Group NV had damaged The Chicago-based Boeing Company, the last chapter in a 15-year dispute over the Government support to the two largest aircraft manufacturers in the world.

US companies that buy from Airbus now face the possibility of millions of dollars in additional costs that they would rather avoid. So, they’ve been asking for their planes to come from the only Airbus plant in the United States, in Mobile, where fares don’t apply. But there is a problem present is that the Mobile plant produces only five A320s each month with plans to spend six at the beginning of next year. That is not enough to meet solid demand, which includes pending orders from half a dozen US operators. The company also develops A320 aircraft in Hamburg, Germany; Toulouse, France; and Tianjin, China. Airbus declined to reveal which airlines have production spaces in the Mobile factory in the coming months.

US carriers

414-4149345_7-min-a320-neo-png.pngCarriers, including Delta Air Lines Inc., the largest Airbus customer for orders, are trying to find a solution to this costly obstacle, negotiating with the manufacturer to mitigate the tariff burden of any aircraft built outside the US. Delta has almost 250 Airbus aircraft in its order register, including 100 A321neos that will begin arriving next year, along with options for 100 more. «We do not believe that any responsibility for the fares belongs to Delta. We are working in collaboration with Airbus to make that happen», said the Executive Director of the airline, Ed Bastian on December 11, 2019. The airline needs to get some of its new aircraft from Europe, which includes A330NEO and A350 wide-body next year, but Delta does not expect to pay those costs.

American Airlines Group Inc. is «doing everything possible to talk to Airbus to try to get jets from Mobile instead of Hamburg», Chief Financial Officer Derek Kerr told investors in October. American received its new Mobile A321NEO on December 4, 2019, and has two additional aircraft of that model that will leave Hamburg by the end of the year. The airline continues to negotiate with Airbus about deliveries from Germany, said US spokeswoman Andrea Koos.

Smaller airlines are also caught in the international dispute. Scott Haralson, Chief Financial Officer of Spirit Airlines Inc., told investors in October that his airline is working with Airbus to mitigate the impact of fares. Spirit has two Airbus A320 scheduled from Hamburg in the first half of 2020, with another nine from Mobile. The Florida-based airline expects to take 48 family Airbus A320 aircraft in the next two years and recently ordered 100 more. «We maintain regular communication with our business representatives and believe that, over time, it will be resolved. However, until then, it remains a concern», said Scott Haralson.

Airbus Europe

The Airbus Group company is discussing its deliveries from Europe with US customers «on a case-by-case basis regarding the effects of these rates», said Airbus spokesman Clay McConnell. The Trump administration’s charges will harm the traveling public in general by reducing flight options and increasing their travel costs.

Airbus may decide to absorb the additional cost of any aircraft delivered from Europe, Bank of America analysts said in an October 2019 note. Among the wide-body aircraft, 18% of Boeing’s order book is for European customers, compared to 12% of Airbus, Bank of America said. However, some analysts believe in the likely outcome is a negotiated agreement before reaching this point. AW-Icon AW002

Resultado de imagen para safran group logoFrance’s Safran considers a US$ 150 million aircraft engine repair unit in India

Safran Group, based in France, is considering an investment of US$ 150 million in a new aircraft engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) unit in India to serve its airline customers, according to the company. Safran and GE Aviation have a 50% interest in CFM International, based in the United States, which produces engines for Airbus A320 and Boeing 737 aircraft types.

Currently, around 220 Airbus and Boeing aircraft in the Indian market are equipped with CFM engines. In addition, there are 485 aircraft ordered from IndiGo, SpiceJet, and Vistara, which will be equipped with these engines and are expected to be delivered in the next five years.

CFM International, which competes with the engine manufacturer Pratt & Whitney, won an order worth US$ 20 billion from IndiGo to supply engines for 280 Airbus A320NEO in June 2019. Plans to establish an MRO unit in India are They are evaluating after the great victory of the order.

Safran Group has said: «As a long-standing partner of the Indian aerospace industry, Safran is committed to supporting growth in the Indian market. Given the rapid expansion of the CFM fleet in Asia and in India specifically, we are considering the possibility of building a new Safran store in this region of the world to address the growing needs of MRO. This new store will represent an investment of more than US $ 150 million».

Currently, only Air India has capabilities for internal maintenance of aircraft engines, while all other carriers send their engines abroad for review and major repairs. A national MRO will help Indian airlines reduce costs and save on foreign exchange, in addition to generating employment for engineers and technicians.

A team of Safran executives visited the MRO facilities of Air India in Mumbai a few months ago to verify the capabilities of the airline. An Air India executive said labor costs in India were half of those in Europe or the United States and that would make a maintenance unit attractive to other airlines.

Safran Group is discussing issues related to the fiscal and regulatory framework for MRO with the civil aviation ministry. In India, an 18 percent tax is applied to goods and services for aircraft maintenance work and airport operators charge high royalties for the units, which makes the MRO business in India unattractive. It is learned that an investment decision will depend on favorable political decisions. Safran declined to comment on the issue of tax structure in India.

According to the MRO Association of India, the size of the Indian repair and overhaul market is US $ 1-1.2 billion. More than 90% of the businesses generated by Indian commercial airlines are being carried out abroad by large MRO companies in Singapore, Germany, Turkey, Sri Lanka and Malaysia. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW002

After the 300 layoffs in the Embraer Executive area, they show the intention of reducing the company both in the area of the residual Embraer as well as in the Boeing Brasil Commercial, showing concern in the workforce of workers’ personnel assuming that many when they finish their vacations They will not be employees.

The workers of the Brazilian aeronautical company Embraer that would represent today 80% of the commercial area is virtually in the hands of The Boeing Company, a company whose institutional crisis situation is affecting aviation security.

The Embraer SA factory went into recess and will have collective vacations from January 6 to 19, 2020. «The fear of an eventual mass layoff affects all sectors of the factory, both the workers who will remain in Embraer and those who will move to Boeing. Just this month, some 300 workers have been laid off, especially from business aviation, an area that will continue with Embraer after the fascist government of fascist Jair Bolsonaro delivers the company to Boeing», says the Metalworkers Union from São José dos Campos. Most of the dismissals on Wednesday, December 18, 2019, were precisely employees of Embraer’s executive area. An engineer has expressed that there are concerns about new layoffs, as some of the professionals have had little work in recent months. As one employee reports, «the company had never made layoffs like this on the eve of the holidays».

The cuts contradict the speeches adopted by Embraer and Boeing during the negotiations. Repeatedly, company representatives declared that the commercial transaction would not be detrimental to employees of the Brazilian factory. Although Embraer says that all workers have been warned and agreed, the main objective of Embraer’s new structure could be to close with the third largest executive aviation in the world and deliver the commercial division, a heritage of the Brazilian people.
