Airbus communicates A320NEO is potentially vulnerable to the AOA scenario

Airbus has determined that the A320NEO is potentially vulnerable to a weakness in the Angle of Attack (AOA) protection that could result in an excessive pitching attitude in certain circumstances. Although the condition is different from the overpass anomaly recently discovered during the analysis of the longest A321NEO, the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA) reports that it appears outwardly similar. EASA emphasizes that the condition has never been found during A320NEO operations. But he says that a reduced efficiency of the angle of attack protection of the aircraft under certain flight configurations and in combination with specific maneuvers ordered by the crew could lead to an excessive step and a greater workload.

Flight Control Tests

The scenario has been discovered during the analysis and laboratory tests of the A320NEO Flight Control Laws. Airbus has developed temporary revisions of the A320NEO Flight Manual to address the condition and EASA has ordered operators to modify their manuals accordingly. The changes limit the envelope of the center of gravity of the aircraft. Airbus has also issued charging recommendations. These new regulations for the A320NEO would affect both the CFM International LEAP-1A and Pratt & Whitney PW1100G versions. EASA has opted for the rapid implementation of an airworthiness directive, which requires changes within 30 days after August 14, 2019, postponing the comment period until after publication.

Its measures follow the discovery of a behavior problem with the elevator and the spoiler computer in the larger A321NEO that also affected the protection of the angle of attack under particular conditions. EASA has previously issued similar preventive instructions, which imply changes in the flight manual and balance limitations, and has identified the specific computer units affected. Airbus is working to develop an amendment to the Flight Control Act for the A321NEO that will be available in 2020. A\W

Cuestionamientos FAA fallas 737 MAX

Image result for Boeing 737 MAX FAAAW | 2019 08 01 13:45 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

Boeing-Logo.svg.pngThe FAA was aware of the problem of the Boeing 737 MAX before the second plane crash

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) knew about the risk of the Boeing 737 MAX sensor malfunctioning before the second fatal accident. The report that was filed after the plane crash of the JT-610 flight of the Lion Air airline of the Boeing 737-8 MAX in October 2018, found that it did not take much to cause a key sensor to malfunction. The regulators decided to inform the pilots about the risk of malfunction that could push the nose of the plane down. According to reports, the FAA believed that alerting pilots would give Boeing about ten months to work on a permanent solution to the Maneuvering Feature Enhancement System (MCAS) without grounding the plane.

But only five months after the Lion Air accident, another Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-8 MAX of flight ET-302 had the same disastrous consequences on March 10, 2019. Boeing 737 MAX planes of all models have been grounded in Everyone since March 2019.

Boeing-FAA ties questioned

Boeing-FAA ties that lead to lax supervision are under scrutiny. Officials in China, Canada and the European Union have said they plan to review the software and pilot training changes independently.

737 MAX costs

The aerospace giant Boeing received a charge of US$ 4.9 billion in the second quarter. During the second-quarter earnings call, Boeing warned that it could temporarily suspend production of its 737 MAX aircraft if it does not return to service at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

737 MAX operational risks

The FAA found a high emergency risk after the first 737 MAX accident. An internal risk analysis after the first of the two Boeing 737 MAX air accidents showed that the likelihood of a similar cabin emergency was high in a matter of months, an FAA official familiar with the details said. The regulator’s analysis, not previously reported, showed that «it did not take as much» for a malfunction as the one faced by the pilots of the Lion Air flight that crashed in the Java Sea, Indonesia.

Based on the findings, the regulator decided that it was sufficient to inform pilots about the dangers of a malfunction of the on-board sensor that led to a flight control system that pushed the nose of the plane. The initial goal of the FAA was: «Take something out immediately and then order something more permanent». A \ W

Investigación accidente SU1492

AW-20190505-0-P2 Miklos Szabo.jpg

AW | 2019 08 01 12:40 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

Investigations of Aeroflot SU1492 plane crash continue

On May 5, 2019 the Sukhoi Superjet 100-95B of Aeroflot Russian International Airlines with flight SU1492/AFL1492 returned to the ground at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport in Russia and burst into flames during an emergency landing attempt. Of the 78 people on board, 41 did not survive.

The plane took off from Runway 24C of Sheremetyevo Airport at 6:03 p.m. (local time) on a scheduled service to Murmansk, Russia. Visibility was fine, but there were some Cumulonimbus clouds near the airfield at 6000 feet. The flight crew activated the autopilot when the plane climbed to a height of 700 feet (215 m). At 6:08 p.m., when the plane was rising at an altitude of approximately 8900 feet (2700 m), there was a failure in the electrical system. At this point, the plane was 30 km west-northwest of the airport in an area of thunderstorm activity. The captain assumed manual control of the aircraft and the crew managed to establish radio contact using UHF. The flight was unable to contact the approach controller and subsequently selected the emergency transponder code 7600 (loss of radio communication). Around 6:17 p.m. the plane crossed the center line of the runway after turning towards the runway heading. The altitude at that time was about 2400 feet. The plane continued to turn right, completed a circle and proceeded to the final approach to runway 24L. The fins were selected at 25°, which was the recommended configuration for landing above the maximum landing weight.

At 6:26 p.m. the flight crew selected the emergency transponder code 7700 (emergency). When descending from 335 to 275 m (1100-900 ft), the wind shear warning system rang five times: «Go around. Wind shear forward». From a height of 80 m (260 feet) above ground level, the plane descended below the glide path and at a height of 55 m (180 feet) the TAWS warning «Glide Slope» sounded. From that moment, the air speed increased to 170 knots.

At 6:30 p.m. the plane flew over the runway threshold and landed at a distance of 900 m beyond the threshold at a speed of 158 knots. The contact took place with a force g of at least 2.55 g with a subsequent rebound at a height of approximately 2 m. After two seconds, the plane landed again on the front landing gear with a vertical load of 5.85 g and bounced at a height of 6 m. The third landing of the plane occurred at a speed of 140 knots with a vertical overload of at least 5 g. This caused a break in the wing structure and the fuel lines. The flames exploded and enveloped the back of the plane. The plane stopped on the grass between runway 24L and two taxiways. Then an emergency evacuation was performed while the flames quickly enveloped the rear fuselage.

Continued investigations

The investigation into the accident of the SU1492/AFL1492 flight of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100) at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport in May 2019 considers that the pilot’s error is the main cause of the accident, the source in the investigating authorities. The investigation of the case will continue for another year and a half due to the need to carry out a large complex of technical experience in flight and aviation. «However, now with full confidence we can conclude that the incident of the flight was the fault of the pilots», he emphasized.

In turn, Aeroflot considers the statement «from another unidentified source in the investigation bodies, published by the TASS news agency, a blatant attempt to pressure the IAC commission and the investigation bodies, as well as to prepare public opinion In a certain way, the preliminary report published by the IAC on June 14, 2019 does not draw conclusions, it only describes in detail the work of the aircraft and the actions of the crew on May 5, 2019. The objective results of the investigation have not yet been received by competent and competent investigating authorities», the company said in a statement.

On June 14, 2019, the IAC published a preliminary report on the accident. It was adopted by the technical commission, which includes experts from IAC (Interstate Aviation Committee), Rosaviation, Aeroflot and Sukhoi Civil Aircraft. It was learned from the document that after the lightning struck the SSJ-100, the autopilot was turned off and the connection was interrupted, and there were no comments from the crew on the operation of the aircraft systems during the previous flight. After that, at the end of June 2019, the Aeroflot General Director, Vitaly Savelyev, commenting on the Sukhoi SSJ-100 catastrophe for the first time, stated that after the publication of the IAC report, the parties had questions with each other, which require more discussion.

The SSJ-100 Aeroflot plane flew from Moscow to Murmansk on May 5, 2019, but almost immediately returned to Sheremetyevo and caught fire on landing. As a result of the incident, 41 people died, including a flight attendant. Another 33 passengers and 4 crew members survived. A \ W

The aeronautical unions of Argentina will mobilize this Friday in Aeroparque for salary recomposition Airlines/Austral

The United Aeronautical Unions reported that they will be mobilized this Friday, August 2, 2019 at Jorge Newbery Airport (Aeroparque) from 09:00 hrs in Sector C. The reason, they argue, is the lack of wage recomposition by the Aerolíneas/Austral Group for the 2018-2019 Period. The decision was made after a fruitless meeting with the company’s managers.

«The directors of the AR/AU Group did not make any proposal for wage recomposition, not even taking the reference of the inflation that marks Indec», says a statement signed by the Association of Aeronautical Personnel (APA), the Pilots Association of Airlines (APLA), the Association of Aeronautical Technical Personnel (APTA), the Union of Airline Aviators (UALA) and the Union of Higher and Professional Personnel of Aerospace Companies (UPSA). They also indicated that the current situation responds to the mistakes of Luis Malvido’s management. «The United Aeronautical Unions repudiate business intransigence and urge the leadership of the AR/AU Group to work seriously to reach a salary recomposition agreement according to the continuous increases in the cost of living and the impact of inflation on income of the workers of the company, thus avoiding unnecessary conflict situations», they maintain from the union group.

ANAC reestructura slots Congonhas

The aeronautical authority ANAC Brasil has distributed slots to new airlines in Congonhas Airport

The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) of Brazil applied a new criterion in the redistribution of take-off and landing permits (slots) at Congonhas Airport (CGH), in Sao Paulo, belonging to the broken Avianca Brasil (Ocean Air). A new scenario was opened in the long process of transferring the assets of the airline.

The decision had direct effects on two companies that were awarded a total of 41 spaces in that terminal in the auction held at the beginning of July 2019 by Gol Linhas Aéreas and Latam Airlines. Now the Brazilian aeronautical authority took that process to zero sheets in the case of Congonhas Airport, determining that 100% of the time slots will be distributed among the so-called incoming companies, that is, operators with between five and 54 slots.

The National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) of Brazil reports that four airlines submitted requests for distribution of the 41 daily slots operated by the Avianca Brasil airline at Congonhas Airport in São Paulo. The aeronautical administrative body has granted the permits corresponding to daily slots to Azul Linhas Aéreas (41), MAP Linhas Aéreas (41), Passaredo Linhas Aéreas (30) and TwoFlex Táxi Aéreo (14).

The ANAC decision leaves out Gol Linhas Aéreas and Latam Airlines, which have a greater number of slots with 234 and 236 respectively. According to the Brazilian regulator, the measure seeks to restore the airport’s offer, promote greater competition and balance in that market and provide passengers with new service options. “The provisional allocation of these departure and arrival times does not include the other time slots at the airport and is immediate, in order to minimize the impact generated by the end of the operations of Avianca Brasil, which had its concession suspended to operate on May 24 this year”, said ANAC Brazil.

The result of the new slot distribution process will be announced during these days, and will be effective as of October 10, 2019. The allocation mechanism will assess “the critical level of concentration and high saturation of Congonhas infrastructure, and that companies they can start offering flights immediately”, the agency said. In addition, at the meeting it was decided to open a revision procedure for the standard of allocation of slots, where new mechanisms will be studied that will allow reducing access barriers and promoting competition in saturated airports in Brazil.

Gobierno Argentina denuncia a pilotos

IMG_1375.JPGAW | 2019 07 31 13:06 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

IMG_1360.JPGArgentine Government denounces pilots

They denounced the pilots for the messages against the Government read during the flights. They are accused of endangering air safety

The Government of Argentina has filed a complaint against the pilots who read messages with political dyes during flights. The contravention of aeronautical standards was denounced in Federal Court No. 8 by Judge Marcelo Martínez de Giorgi.

The complainants accuse the APLA pilots of violating the Criminal Code in Articles 190, 248 and 261 after «illegally issuing a proclamation of political and union content with critical political content towards the national government. The violation of Article 190 of the Criminal Code contemplates a penalty of between two and eight years in prison for those who «knowingly execute any act that endangers the safety of a ship, floating construction or aircraft». On the other hand, Article 248 refers to the abuse of authority, and Whistleblowers consider that due to their activity as pilots who «operate goods and services of a public nature, their activity is an obvious public function».

In that line, the lawyers cited a complaint from the ANAC processed by Federal Court No. 6: «The reading by loudspeakers of the ship by a non-precise number of commanders, violates elementary norms of safety of the activity. it is a violent action likely to cause tumult among passengers. Next, the complainants argued that the messages read by the pilots are likely to generate situations of potential violence among passengers who are directly affected by a provocation or aggression of who is the highest authority in that place and at that time».

Last week, the pilots nucleated in the Union of Airline Aviators (UALA) and the Association of Airline Pilots (APLA) made a mobilization at Jorge Newbery Airport after the conflict raised when the flight commanders decided to read by the loudspeakers of the aircraft a proclamation when the plane was already on the ground.
