La compañía canadiense De Havillland Aircraft of Canada Limited ha anunciado el montaje de una mega-fábrica en Calgary, Estado de Alberta, Canadá, para la construcción de las unidades de aviones comerciales. The Canadian company De Havillland Aircraft of Canada Limited has announced the setting up of a mega-factory in Calgary, State of Alberta, Canada, for the construction of commercial aircraft units. De Havilland currently has a facility in Calgary where work is currently under way on existing EAF CL-215, CL-415 and CL-415 aircraft employing about 1,000 people in six buildings. The de Havilland CL-215 and CL-415 unit are no longer in production. But in March 2022, the company announced that a new modernized variant, the DHC-515, first introduced in 2018, will be assembled in Calgary, Alberta, with deliveries beginning in the middle of the decade.
The aviation company has acquired nearly 1,500 acres of land east of the city on which they hope to build a sprawling complex of aircraft manufacturing facilities. It will include a runway and will be known as de Havilland Field with construction beginning in 2023 with the first buildings operational by 2025. The company hopes to employ 1,500 workers to produce at least three lines of aircraft: the DHC-515, DHC-6 Twin Otter and Dash 8-Q400. Work on the Twin Otter and Dash 8-Q400 stopped at the start of the pandemic in 2020. The company is currently hard at work updating the Twin Otter and Dash 8-Q400 models, both de Havilland Canada workhorse aircraft.
Company CEO Brian Chafe said, “De Havilland Canada Field will be home to the assembly and production of reliable and rugged Canadian aircraft that serve missions around the world”.
The European Union coordinates and finances the deployment of twelve fixed-wing firefighting aircraft and one helicopter pooled by EU countries. In July 2022 we reported that the EU plans to purchase additional tankers. “European customers have signed letters of intent to purchase the first 22 aircraft pending the positive outcome of government-to-government negotiations through the Government of Canada’s contracting agency, the Canadian Commercial Corporation. De Havilland Canada hopes that with the first deliveries of the DHC-515 beginning in the middle of the decade, with deliveries of additional aircraft beginning by the end of the decade, giving other customers the opportunity to renew existing fleets or pursue new acquisition opportunities at that time”, expresses the announcement issued by the company De Havilland Canada.
