Argentina and the United States expand the Bilateral Air Services Agreement

Argentina and the United States have ratified a new bilateral agreement on air transport services dating from 1985 that immediately eliminated previously established reciprocity restrictions. The new amendment between the Secretariat of Transportation of the United States and the Ministry of Transportation of Argentina will liberalize a cap on assignments of flights between the United States and Argentina and vice versa, operating routes and unlimited frequencies between both countries, with any authorized carrier.

The agreement advances other important issues, such as safety regulations, ground handling activities, sales and expenses in local currency, conversion and remittance of income, as well as the authorization to perform code sharing, blocked spaces or lease agreements.

The new agreement also facilitates the associations of Argentine operators with US operators. The airlines will seek new agreements simplifying procedures, exemptions for their approval before the authorities of the United States.

Summit of the Americas 2019

The signing was made in the framework of the official visit of Minister of Transportation Guillermo Dietrich to the United States, as well as the Transportation Summit of the Americas, an international event that brings together representatives of the public and private transportation sectors in Washington . The summit also includes authorities and officials of organizations and departments of other countries and multilateral organizations, among other institutions. «In Argentina, the commercial market is growing and we are accompanying it strongly with investments, which in turn make more and more countries trust us and expand the connections between our cities and the rest of the world, in this case with the United States. States», Dietrich said.

Currently, there are 7 routes between both countries, most of which are operated by US airlines, including American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines. Although typically centered in Buenos Aires with routes between the capital and New York, Dallas, Miami, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Houston, secondary cities such as Córdoba also see connections to the United States with service to Miami. In total, all connections add up to 84 weekly frequencies between the two countries, less than half operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas, the flag carrier of the Argentine Republic.

The low-cost airline JetSmart recently announced that it will incorporate the long-haul narrow-body Airbus A321XLR, which has the reach to reach the United States from Argentina, and JetBlue Airways expressed its intention to reach Argentina some time ago. While JetBlue is currently concentrated in Europe, with a service recently announced to London, the airline is expanding to South America with new services to Ecuador and Guyana from New York on aircraft of the Airbus A320CEO/NEO family.

Meanwhile, the market will determine how this agreement will impact on Argentine airlines such as Norwegian Air Argentina, Flybondi Líneas Aéreas, Latam Airlines, Andes Líneas Aéreas, among others. A \ W

The US agency of NASA conducted a study on aircraft safety Fokker F28-Mk1000

A Fokker F28-Mk1000 has become the largest aircraft that NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) has conducted safety investigations to impact the ground in their studies to improve safety.

The facilities of NASA in Langley, State of Virginia, United States, have, among other equipment, the so-called Landing Installation and Impact Investigation, where tests are carried out regularly in order to crash aircraft against the ground to carry conducted studies on the chances of survival of the occupants. The last of these aircraft has also been the largest ever tested in this installation: A Fokker F28-Mk1000 that belonged to Canadian Regional Airlines before being acquired by NASA. The F28-Mk1000 serial number SN: 11051 made its first flight on April 25, 1972 and flew with Germanair, Itavia, TAT, Delta Air Transport, Air Liberteé and Canadian Regional.

Terry Holdren, Project Coordinator WIAMan of the United States Army said: «WIAMan’s unique ability to collect data on force or load, which is applied to the body from below, also provides a valuable tool when studying an air accident. We are excited and proud to work with the FAA and NASA to help make air accidents safer». Before being dropped from about 50 meters high, several anthropomorphic test devices, called dummies, were installed inside it. test, which represented from a three-year-old child to an adult man weighing 125 kilograms, and which were supplied by the FAA Aeromedical Institute and the United States Army Tests and Evaluations Command, some of them with high speed, allowed the dummies to be shot during the impact. On the outside of the plane, hundreds of black dots were applied on the white fuselage to help capture the deformation movement of each part of the aircraft by following each point of the aircraft. Now it’s time to digitize the movement of each point in order to study the dynamics of the deformation.

This test is included within those that are being carried out by the FAA to establish new regulations for commercial transport aircraft regarding the capacity for survival in accidents. The results of the test, combined with other tests in which vertical fuselages were dropped, will allow to better determine how the aircraft is crushed on impact, as well as the measured kinematics of the occupants and find solutions to achieve greater survival rate in air accidents due to impact on the ground. Among the dummies, from NASA stand out one, which is designed to measure the forces to which the human body is subjected when an explosion occurs under a vehicle.

After the accident, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will perform dimensional scans of the aircraft to compare its structure before and after the test. All shock test dummies will be removed and the debris will be disposed. A \ W

Boeing-Company-LogoThe FAA identifies a new safety risk in the Boeing 737 MAX model562

The Federal Aviation Administration of the United States (FAA) has identified a new potential risk that the American constructor Boeing must address in its 737 MAX before the plane ashore can return to service. The risk was discovered during a simulator test last week. The new problem means that Boeing will not conduct a certification test flight until July 8, 2019 at the earliest and the FAA will spend at least two or three weeks reviewing the results before deciding whether to return the aircraft to service.

Last month, FAA representatives informed members of the aviation industry that the approval of the 737 MAX could occur by the end of June 2019. The largest plane manufacturer in the world has been working on updating a system of stop prevention known as MCAS after two fatal aerial accidents. «In the most recent edition, the FAA process is designed to uncover and highlight potential risks. The FAA recently found a potential risk that Boeing must mitigate, «the FAA said in the statement sent to Reuters.

New problem
Asked about the new potential risk, Boeing said he is «working closely with the FAA to return the 737 MAX to the service safely.» A new fault was discovered in the computer system of the Boeing 737 Max that could push the plane down, according to two sources familiar with the tests, a problem that is expected to further delay the return of the aircraft to service. An FAA test pilot has visualized that during a simulator test last week he was running scenarios that sought to intentionally activate the MCAS stop prevention system. During an activation, it took a long period to recover the stabilizer compensation system that is used to control the aircraft. It was not clear if the situation can be addressed with a software update or if it is a microprocessor problem, but Boeing told the FAA that he believes the problem can be addressed with a software update.

A hardware fix could add new delays when the plane returns to service. The 737 MAX is Boeing’s best-selling commercial aircraft line. A\W

The German transporter Lufthansa proposes to buy Alitalia reducing fleet and personnel

Lufthansa has returned the bid for Alitalia, which had been set aside saying it did not want to enter a company in which the government had the role that Italy wants to continue playing, now could consider staying with the Italian flag carrier.

The German offer is politically complicated because it proposes to reduce the fleet of Alitalia in 43 planes, taking it from the current 117 to only 74. Lufthansa does not want to know anything about handling or maintenance, because it already has its own. The proposed Delta Air Lines, however, would stay with 100 aircraft.

On February 11, 2019, a member of the Lufthansa Council, Harry Hohmeister, said there had to be «about 3,000 layoffs» at Alitalia and warned that «if all this is going to last a long time, nothing will remain of the proud Alitalia». To the dismissals declared by Hohmeister would be added the maintenance and handling jobs, which could in total reach 5,000 dismissals. It is possible that the German offer can be softened, but in any case it seems that it guarantees the continuity of the brand. A \ W

Mitsubishi adquiere Programa CRJ

Imagen relacionadaAW | 2019 06 26 05:38 | INDUSTRY

Mitsubishi_Logo.pngMitsubishi Heavy Industries will acquire Bombardier’s CRJ Program

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries will pay US$ 550 million in cash to acquire the regional jet Canadair Regional Jet CRJ business from Bombardier Inc. in an agreement that will give the Japanese company immediate access to an extensive network of customers and after-sales service. Under the terms of the agreement, Mitsubishi will also assume responsibilities of the Canadian group of around US$ 200 million.

The transaction immediately sparked concern among unions over jobs in Bombardier’s aerospace operations in Northern Ireland, which went on sale in May 2019 where wings and fuselages are manufactured for many of the company’s aircraft. This includes some of the CRJ jets. About 300 employees support the CRJ’s fuselage program in Belfast, Ireland.

Seiji Izumisawa, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, said the transaction represented «one of the most important steps in our strategic journey to build a solid global aviation capacity. It increases these efforts by securing a complementary and world-class suite of aviation-related functions that include maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), engineering and customer support».

Following the agreement, Mitsubishi will acquire maintenance and engineering activities for CRJ aircraft, mainly in North America, the largest market for regional aircraft. The Japanese company will be able to take advantage of this network and experience to promote its own regional jet that has recently received the new name of SpaceJet.

The two companies confirmed that they were in talks about an agreement this month. Bombardier said it will continue to supply components and spare parts and that it will assemble the CRJ portfolio on behalf of Mitsubishi. The production of CRJ is expected to be completed in the second half of 2020, after the delivery of the current portfolio of aircraft.

Bombardier said in a separate statement that it was reviewing «what impact [the agreement] can have on our sites in Northern Ireland and Morocco as providers of the program». He said he would «evaluate opportunities in other programs to mitigate any potential impact on our workforce».

Unite, the union, said it would seek employment guarantees and that any affected employees would be absorbed by other projects at the Belfast site. «The fact that there was no prior discussion with the unions shows the contempt that Bombardier has for the labor force and economy of Northern Ireland», a spokesman said.

Bombardier is one of the largest employers in the province’s private sector with a long tradition that dates back to the relocation of the British aerospace engineering group Short Brothers in the 1940s. Last year it sold control of the largest aircraft, the CSeries program to Airbus, which the European group later changed its name to A220.

The sale to Mitsubishi represents the end of an era for Bombardier, which has attempted to withdraw from the commercial aircraft market as part of a five-year turnaround initiated by executive director Alain Bellemare in 2015. The Bombardier-Mitsubishi agreement is expected to close during the first half of 2020 and remain subject to regulatory approvals. A \ W

As of December 9, 2019 Aerolíneas Argentinas will join Buenos Aires-Orlando non-stop flights. The direct flight of Aerolineas Argentinas will have three weekly frequencies between December 9, 2019 and March 21, 2020. Just over 350 kilometers from Miami, the city of Orlando (Florida, United States) is famous for the large number of attractions it concentrates . There are the theme parks of Walt Disney World Resort, as well as Universal Orlando Resort and Seaworld.

Flight Buenos Aires-Orlando

The nonstop flight will have three weekly frequencies (3Fqr/S) during the summer holiday season of Argentina, between December 9, 2019 and March 21, 2020. «The opening of this new international route is a bet of the company in its constant search to generate more revenue and optimize its operation, we direct our effort to identify the preferences of the passengers and to satisfy them with a quality product», said Luis Malvido, CEO of the Aerolíneas Group.

In principle, the route will operate in the designated holiday season, «with a beginning and an end», as noted during the press conference. Then it will be evaluated if it will continue throughout the year or how often it will do so. For his part, Máximo Amadeo, Commercial Director of Aerolíneas, explained that the commercialization of this route begins today and that the tickets will be sold from US$ 800. Until Sunday 30 June 2019 can take advantage of the 6 installments without interest or alternatives offered by travel agencies that work strongly with this destination.

Resultado de imagen para Aerolíneas Argentinas A330-200The operation will be carried out with Airbus A330-200 aircraft, with capacity for 262 passengers (240 in Economy and 22 in Club Cóndor). The departures from Ezeiza will be on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 11.30 pm and passengers will land in Orlando at 07:10 (local time). The schedule is clearly advantageous with respect to the flight that many currently make to Miami and then arrive in Orlando by car, as this new flight avoids losing a day at destination, and take advantage of it from the moment of landing. As for the return times from Orlando are scheduled for Tuesday/Thursday/Sunday at 04:25 p.m. (local time United States), with arrival in Buenos Aires at 04:00 hs (local time Argentina).

From the company clarified that these schedules will favor connections with flights to and from Rosario, Córdoba, Mendoza, Mar del Plata, Bahía Blanca, Tucumán, Salta and other international destinations such as Porto Alegre (Brazil), Asunción (Paraguay), Santiago de Chile and San Pablo (Brazil).

In the last three years, Aerolíneas Argentinas opened 35 routes, to which this new flight is added. And of the 12,940,000 passengers transported in 2018, 3,270,000 correspond to international destinations. A \ W
