AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The Northwest Airlines Museum

The history of the Northwest Airlines Museum takes color in the Twin Cities, metropolitan area of Minneapolis-Saint Paul in Minnesota, United States

Northwest Airlines was based in the Twin Cities before the merger in 2008 with Delta Air Lines. The Northwest Airlines Museum is a place to remember this beloved US airline.

The Northwest Airlines Museum is located in the Bloomington neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota. «Everyone knows about pilots and hostesses and yes, their work is very important, but they do not take off without us», said Bruce Kitt. This aircraft mechanic is now dedicated to preserving the history of Northwest Airlines, later known as NWA Airlines. Bruce Kitt has worked for Northwest Airlines for 26 years. Now, instead of working on airplanes, he’s working to keep the story alive. «It grew from being a small regional airline to, especially after World War II, it became a global airline», said Kitt, executive director of the Northwest Airlines History Center. Everything the airline represented, for more than 80 years, can now be found on the third floor of the Crowne Plaza Air in Bloomington.

Northwest Airlines History Center takes flight. Northwest began in 1926 and really took off during World War II. The military used their planes to fly from Minneapolis to the Aleutian Islands. «Based on that experience, Northwest got used to flying long distances in terrible weather», said Bruce Kitt. After the war, Northwest Airlines based its experience on becoming one of the first airlines to have a non-stop service to the Asia region.

The life of the Northwest Museum

The Northwest Airlines commercials always presented a «gong» sound at the end. «The gong is one of the most requested artifacts when guests enter the museum», said Kitt. The history of Northwest Airlines gong takes flight in the museum. It is one of the 4,000 artifacts that the exhibition has. That includes a history of crew uniforms from the beginnings of Northwest Airlines. «Women were not allowed to marry, they had to be under 30. They had to look a certain way, weigh a certain amount», said Chuck Huntley, director of operations. All that changed in the sixties. However, Northwest and other airlines may have been a little behind in their policies and uniforms when referring to the Austin Powers era.

Resultado de imagen para Northwest Airlines PngLong before Northwest Airlines merged with Delta in 2008, the airline was known to have a large fleet of «whales», an affectionate nickname for the Boeing 747. At its peak, Northwest had more 747 aircraft than any other airline in the world. world. They took pleasure seekers and professionals to almost 200 destinations around the world. Proving that, as his old saying goes, «some people just know how to fly».

«Northwest gave them the ability, especially after 1947, they could go from Minneapolis to any part of the world where their business needed them, this is what put the Upper Midwest of the United States on the map», said Bruce Kitt.

The fascinating history of Northwest Airlines has transcended borders to become one of the most beloved airlines of all time, that neither the tyranny of the market has allowed to forget. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Second flight test of the C919

The COMAC C919 has made the second test test flight in China

The COMAC C919 has successfully completed its second test flight this Sunday, December 17, 2017, opening a new stage of progress for the test tests.

The C919 aircraft manufactured by the public company Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC), has carried out the second flight test program without problems landing without problems at the Pudong Airport in Shanghai, where it had taken off two hours before.

About the C919
The inaugural flight of the C919 took place at the beginning of May. Comac had presented the first copy of this plane in November 2015.

The C919 has a capacity for 168 passengers and a range of 5,550 kilometers. It hopes to compete with the Boeing 737 and the Airbus A320. It is interesting to note that these two manufacturers share, almost equally, the great Chinese market. With the C919, Comac expects to overcome its delay with respect to Boeing and Airbus, and claims to have already registered 785 orders for its device, almost all from Chinese airlines. COMAC also produces from ARJ-21, a small regional aircraft that was certified at the end of 2014 by the Chinese authorities.

The C919 will have to face the challenge of the American certification that is indispensable to fly in the United States and is necessary for the planes destined to international flights. A \ W
