Airbus Group ha anunciado demoras en el proceso de salida de línea del A321XLR, la última variante narrowbodies. La demora están relacionadas por la agencia EASA que exige una modificación en la parte baja del fuselaje. La demora de Airbus en el proceso de fabricación del A321XLR, modelo que podría suponer un antes y un después para la aviación mundial, supone un contratiempo para las aerolíneas que ansían la llegada de una aeronave transoceánica que permitiría ahorrar costos en lugar de emplear aviones de mayor tamaño cuya entrada en servicio estaba prevista para 2023.

Detrás del retraso están las trabas puestas por la Agencia de Seguridad Aérea de la Unión Europea (EASA) que exige una modificación en la parte baja del fuselaje para así reducir el riesgo de incendio. Los cambios que Airbus deberá introducir podrían provocar una reducción del alcance del avión, que en primera instancia debía ser de 8.700 kilómetros su autonomía. El principal problema radica, según fuentes no oficiales, en que la estructura del depósito se ha fabricado con composite. Esto parece no convencer a la EASA, que considera que el depósito debe ser de un metal más resistente, lo que en este caso será más pesado, reduciendo sensiblemente la autonomía del modelo.

Clientes A321XLR

Actualmente, más de 450 aviones A321XLR se encuentran comprometidos en la lista de clientes en espera. Para el consorcio International Airlines Group (IAG), incluyendo Iberia Líneas Aéreas, tenía previsto recibir en 2023 la primera de las ocho unidades acordadas con el fabricante. La demora no solo trastoca los planes de Iberia. Hay decenas de aerolíneas con pedidos en firme, habiéndose superado hace aproximadamente dos meses la cifra de 450 aviones comprometidos. El modelo con el que Airbus pretendía superar la supremacía de la saga 737 aún se encuentra demorada.

La aerolínea española Iberia Líneas Aéreas tiene créditos por € 758 millones de Euros adquiridos en 2020 y € 50 millones Euros en 2021, con un 80% de aval del ICO. Aunque la financiación está pactada para el 2026, debe pagar el 38% en 2023, es decir, que debe reunir € 123 millones. Así mismo, para 2024, el pago es de € 168 millones, € 206 millones en 2025 y de € 311 millones en 2026. Pese a la gran demanda que las aerolíneas han tenido en el incremento del tráfico post-pandemia, Iberia debe afrontar su deuda millonaria y los reclamos de los empleados por los salarios, lo que a corto plazo hace que su operación se haga incierta. Sumado a estos reclamos, unos € 220 millones de Euros pendientes de pago en concepto de reestructuración que tiene que ver con los antiguos EREs que debe pagar a 2025, mientras que en 2027 posee el vencimiento de la emisión de bonos de 2015, con un saldo de € 55 millones.

Adicionalmente, Iberia debe seguir pagando sus gastos de operación como las facturas de más de € 400 millones por el arrendamiento de aviones, € 430 millones en 2020, € 449 millones en 2021, más la factura de unos € 440 millones para los próximos cuatro años, además de del precio del combustible que sigue subiendo y la inflación que no da tregua.

En cuanto al personal debe negociar el décimo convenio de los pilotos, con el cambio de dirección en la sección sindical del SEPLA en Iberia. José Hidalgo argumentó en su momento que la matriz de Iberia no es europea y en que las autoridades de Competencia de Bruselas no lo van a permitir. «No es posible una fusión de Iberia y Air Europa porque la ley se lo impide. La ley le dice claramente que una compañía que no sea de la Unión Europea no puede tener más del 49% del accionariado de una aerolínea europea. IAG, al no ser europea con el Brexit, no puede tener más de ese porcentaje. Podrá llegar hasta el 49% si llegamos a un acuerdo, pero no más», aseguró en su momento el Presidente de Globalia.

El Sindicato de Pilotos Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) de la aerolínea alemana Lufthansa German Airlines vuelven a convocar un paro sin antelación. Mientras la dirección de Lufthansa dice estar preparando una oferta mejorada para los pilotos, estos han anunciado que este Miércoles 07/09 vuelven a suspender los vuelos, en una segunda tanda de paros. El Sindicato VC ha comunicado que sus miembros realizarían una huelga que comenzará tras la medianoche del Martes 06/09, se extenderá el Miércoles 07/09 y terminará justo antes de la medianoche del Jueves 08/09 de Septiembre de 2022. Los pilotos de aviones de carga planean hacer paros por un día más, añade el sindicato.

Lufthansa dijo que este martes mantendrá conversaciones con el sindicato el martes, comprometiéndose a hacer una mejor oferta en un intento por llegar a un acuerdo, advirtiendo sobre el impacto grave si se lleva a cabo la huelga. El sindicato, por su parte, argumenta que necesita una oferta seria para evitar la huelga.

A finales de Agosto 2022, el gremio VC que representa a unos 9.600 miembros, votó abrumadoramente a favor de las huelgas. JetSMART Airlines Chile has linked the Santiago de Chile/SCL—Montevideo/MVD route on Sunday 09/04 with its first flight in the latest generation Airbus A321NEO aircraft. The incorporation of the aircraft to the route will increase the number of traffic between both points. The Airbus A321NEO are configured with 240 seats in a single Economy class.

After opening the destinations Buenos Aires and Lima, the A321NEO have reached the third destination Montevideo, Uruguay. The Uruguayan capital has been the third international destination for the new Chilean low cost narrobodies aircraft.
