AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Aeronautical trade unions in Argentina on alert

Aeronautical unions in Argentina declared themselves in a state of «alert and mobilization» this Friday in rejection to a new Public Hearing

The APLA, APA, APTA, UALA and UPSA nucleated guilds have submitted a letter to the Ministry of Transport requesting the opening of a new application for the granting of more air routes to be completed on 6 September 2017.

The position of the unions was communicated through a letter addressed to the Minister of Transport, Guillermo Dietrich, and signed by the secretaries general of APTA, Ricardo Cirielli; APA, Edgardo Llano; APLA, Pablo Biro; UALA, Genaro Trucco and UPSA, Rubén Fernández. The unions complained of a lack of response from national authorities to resolve «the state of complete collapse of the national air transport system».

The aeronautical unions denounce that there are «undoubted intentions» to impose «the disastrous low cost business model, well known throughout the world, which will inevitably lead to job insecurity and degradation of air safety in our country.» In this way the guilds set their position before the advance of the State on the new aerial commercial policies in Argentina.

Aerial Commercial Transport System
On the other hand, the unions observe «with deep concern that the heads of the ANAC and the Ministry of Transport still do not recognize that our air transport system is totally collapsed and that it is immersed in a chronic crisis.» They warned that «only the exceptional effort and collaboration of aeronautical workers allows it to remain operational». Among the shortcomings, they mentioned «the lack of coverage and radar control in the entire Argentine territory, aerodromes degraded in their operation, areas of movement and parking of saturated aircraft, air traffic congestion, radio aids out of service, obsolete search system and Ineffective and precariousness of the workers involved».

Faced with a scenario of precariousness, the guilds decided to declare themselves in a state of «alert and mobilization» and announced that they will carry forward the claims in defense of the working conditions of the aeronautical workers and the aviation security of the users of the transport system National Air Transport.

Public Hearing of 6/9
On September 6, the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) convened another Public Hearing for the granting of more air routes in Argentina. Among the companies that will be present are: Norwegian Air Argentina, Polar Airlines, Buenos Aires International Airlines, Linhas Aéreas Sociedad Anónima (Grupo LASA), Sapsa, Just Flight, Argenjet, Alas del Sur and Arrow Bus. Other airlines such as Avian Linhas Aéreas, Flybondi, will request the extension of more air services. The airline Ryanair has dropped from the project of disembarkation in Argentina, at least in these instances. A \ W

Azorean Airlines huelga en agosto

AW | 2017 08 18 14:55 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Azorean Airlines strike in August

Imagen relacionadaThe measure of force will affect the flights from 23 to 26 August 2017

Passengers flying with Azores Airlines and SATA Air Azores are being advised to check the status of their flight due to the strike scheduled for later this month. The National Union of Cabin Crew has called for the departure of 23, 24, 25 and 26 August.

As a result, both airlines that are part of the SATA Group are giving passengers the opportunity to change their flights and are also extending their hours of operations to assist affected passengers.

The union says that the action is more of «mismanagement» in the company and «the way it treats its workers». The next measure of strength is sustained after the strikes in May and again in June.

On the other hand, the company Azores Airlines has suffered a technical and operational problem that has delayed a flight between Ponta Delgada-Boston (USA). According to the official, a technical anomaly arose, so it was necessary to replace equipment, and the crew no longer had time to fly to be able to make this connection of Azores Airlines, which ensures connections outside the archipelago.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Increase MRO expenses Nigerian airlines

Nigerian airlines spend N50md annually on aircraft maintenance abroad

Imagen relacionada

Due to the low value of the Nigerian currency, the Naira, has increased the cost of aircraft maintenance abroad to more than N50 million dollars annually.

Resultado de imagen para moneda de NigeriaCarriers said the cost would have been higher if many of the airlines did not close their operations in the last five years. There are relatively fewer aircraft operating, as the number of aircraft under maintenance has decreased by 35%.

James Ominyi, a civil engineer and engineer at Aero Contractors, said maintenance of the aircraft in the C-check phase could cost between $ 600,000 and $ 1 million and there are other associated costs, including the cost of transporting the aircraft. A plane taken abroad remains longer than the required wait at the maintenance facility.

«You have to look for the overflight permit of the country, and then, depending on the distance, you have to pay for the fuel, but I know it will not be less than U $ D 50,000.You will also have to pay for the landing and the fuel supply , Which is called a technical stop, said James Ominyi.

He explained that OPRs could generally charge $ 600,000 for Check C maintenance, depending on the scope of work, but noted that at the end of the day, the airline could end up paying up to $ 1 million or more.

«When you open the engine and open the side wall panels you can see cracks that are beyond what is agreed upon, which have to be rectified and this will have an additional cost. I have seen a C-Check that had cost up to a million pounds in The UK, which is possible because the moment they open the plane, they will see so many things that should be done that were not tracked before, «James Ominyi explained.

«The cost of aircraft maintenance would have been reduced by at least 30 percent if Nigeria has maintenance facilities in the country, but the low value of the Nigerian currency has increased the cost of maintenance,» said Air Flight Operations Manager Peace, Captain Victor Egonu.

The cost of aircraft maintenance is the same in dollars, it costs Nigerian airlines more since the naira devaluation because airlines now have to change more naira for the same amount of dollars to pay for maintenance.

Unfortunately, the cost of air fares has not increased due to the economic recession, which has drastically reduced the purchasing power of citizens. There are three main factors that have led to the extinction of many Nigerian airlines and these are maintenance cost, poor management and high cost of aviation fuel.

«Most of the reason that airlines are dying is the cost of maintenance because we do not have maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities in Nigeria. The decline in the value of the Naira has drastically affected airlines because The cost of maintenance remains the same, but Nigerian airlines earn less because of the devaluation of the local currency.Airlines also spend more on aviation fuel.Although it is sold in Naira but the product is imported so that Nigerian airlines Pay more for it, «Victor Egonu said.

He pointed out that the collapse of the Naira affected all aspects of the economy, adding that investment in the country is very low at present and noted that even if the MRO facility is built there is no experience to handle it because Nigeria does not have aeronautical engineers Working in this country. Victor Egonu urged the government to facilitate the training of more aeronautical engineers from Nigeria to handle MRO if built in the country. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

CAAT helps airlines affected by ICAO ban

The Thai Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) agreed to allow the required airlines to stop international flights during the re-evaluation of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) red flag next month to operate an additional domestic flight per day per route until January.

CAAT director Chula Sukmanop said yesterday that the measure is to help airlines that will need to temporarily stop the operation of international flights since 1 September because Air Operator Certificates have not yet been issued (Re-AOC). These airlines have to pass an inspection of the ICAO safety standard that will take place around the third week of next month.

The CAAT committee chaired by Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said that requests to operate an additional domestic flight by route per day must comply with CAAT regulations stipulating that only three airlines can operate from small airports.

So far, Asia Atlantic Airlines, Thai VietJet Air and Orient Thai Airlines have submitted applications to the agency. However, if airlines receive their Re-AOC on time, they will be allowed to resume international routes immediately.

Airlines that have already sold tickets after September 1 but are obliged to cancel flights have to find other flights for their passengers. Nine of the 21 uncertified airlines will receive Re-AOC this month.

On the other hand, CAAT has agreed to reduce aircraft parking rates at 38 airports under the supervision of the Airports Department. «This was another measure to help absorb the costs of airlines not authorized to operate international flights during the ICAO inspection», Chula Sukmanop said.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

The Swiss Airlines has retired the old Avro RJ100, popularly known with the nickname of «Jumbolino» for being the small version of a Jumbo. Swiss has used these aircraft to cover its European routes. The second commander of the fleet looks with nostalgia at a time that is now over.

AVRO REGIONAL JET

In 2002, when Swiss was born, the new company takes over 21 aircraft from the fleet of Crossair, the former subsidiary of the defunct Swissair. And these aircraft form the backbone of their European fleet. As of 2016, due to fleet renewal, the Jumbolinos are gradually replaced by CSeries midrange aircraft, manufactured by the Canadian aerospace company Bombardier. The Avro, of British manufacture, stop producing in 2003.

The last passenger flight aboard the Jumbolino arrived Monday night at the Zurich-Kloten airport from London. It landed with 30 minutes of delay and arrived complete, with 81 passengers on board. On Tuesday morning made a last flight of honor, between Geneva and Zurich, followed by a farewell ceremony. In this way the device was officially removed from the company’s fleet. Peter Huber, second commander of the AVRO fleet, expresses with some nostalgia the «Jumbolino» era and praises the reliability of these aircraft. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Rutaca Airlines Operational Difficulties

The airline Rutaca began a negotiation to evaluate layoffs

The National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (INAC) extended the permit for operations for 15 days, but is in a deadlock that could lead to its closure and the loss of thousands of jobs

Venezuelan airline Rutaca Airlines could fire 150 of the airline’s more than 700 workers through the figure of «mutual agreement and signature of resignation.» «Yesterday they began to call in groups and will continue the process during the week. The management confirmed that it needs to fire at least 150 employees», said an airline worker. Rutaca Airlines operations have been paralyzed since July and have been selling tickets to take them back on August 10, but have now extended them to August 20-25.

Rutaca Airlines has two Boeing 737-200s in maintenance of which one may be operational for these days. The root of the economic and financial crisis is not only the international airlines, but also Venezuela’s airlines. The problem of all the airlines has to do with the currencies, to import the spare parts. Company personnel confirmed that ticket sales were still suspended until there is official information on the reactivation of operations. Three national flights is what Rutaca does: Barcelona, Puerto Ordaz and Porlamar.

The suspension, due to compliance of hours of flight to her two aircraft, held her paralyzed for more than a week, until last Wednesday was authorized by the Inac a extension of 15 days to one of its aircraft. When the deadline expires, the airline does not plan an alternative plan to maintain its routes, company personnel said. «You can not be operating only with an airplane, because it puts the passengers at risk, violating the regulations of civil aeronautics. The Inac has been negligent to pay», says a reliable source.

Given the lack of liquidity to reactivate its aircraft, if the government really wants to help Rutaca, what it urgently requires are currencies that it does not have to reactivate its equipment. «It is possible a technical closing or that the government assumes it, but it is not very encouraging because Aeropostal and Conviasa are of the State and both are with numbers in red, in bankruptcy». He said that Aeropostal with a plane makes two daily flights and Conviasa has deteriorated the service, limiting routes and leaving passengers stranded by faults in their equipment. The liability of the company continues to increase.

The panorama of aviation in Venezuela is increasingly uncertain and gloomy, where airlines do their utmost to survive. A \ W
