Entrega primer CS100 a Swiss Air Lines

AW | 2016 06 29 10:24 | INDUSTRY

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

After years of delay and big cost overruns, Bombardier’s CSeries program is finally getting off the ground with the delivery of its first aircraft to Swiss International Air Lines.

The CS100 plane will officially be handed over to the European carrier at a ceremony later today at Montreal’s Mirabel airport attended by government ministers, suppliers and Bombardier employees.

The aircraft, the first of 30 firm orders for CSeries aircraft by Swiss International, will leave for Zurich on Thursday morning and begin regular service July 15.

The CSeries is slated to make its first passenger flights in North America on Wednesday with members of the news media as well as suppliers and guests invited aboard two one-hour flights around the airport.

Quebec lays out timeline for $1B Bombardier bailout
Bombardier in talk with feds ‘for quite a while,’ but PM won’t say if investment is planned
A similar flight took place June 3 between Dublin and Zurich. A test aircraft will also conduct passenger flights next month at the Farnborough Air Show near London.

The 110- to 160-seat CSeries is two years late and about US$2 billion over budget. The first of the larger CS300 version is slated to be delivered later this year to Air Baltic.

Montreal-based Bombardier has struggled financially as the CSeries ran into headwinds as the company began building its largest plane ever from scratch.

It has finalized an agreement with the Quebec government on a US$1 billion investment in exchange for a 49.5 per cent stake in the CSeries. The province will make two US$500 million payments, on June 30 and Sept. 1.

Bombardier is also seeking a similar contribution from the federal government. However, Ottawa has reportedly pushed Bombardier to change its voting structure, something the founding family that controls the company through multiple voting shares insists it has no intention of doing.

Government financial support has attracted the ire of Brazilian rival Embraer, which threatened to launch a challenge at the World Trade Organization after Bombardier signed large orders for the CSeries from Delta Air Lines and Air Canada.

The company has secured 370 firm orders and 252 options and purchase rights for the two aircraft sizes. A\W

Primer vuelo comercial del ARJ21

AW | 2016 06 28 11:47 | INDUSTRY
Chengdu Airlines receives first ARJ21-700 inaugurating the commercial opening of the ARJ21

The metamorphosis of the DC-9

The metamorphosis of the DC-9

ARJ21 Xiangfeng (Chinese: 翔凤 Xiangfeng, translated into Spanish: Flying Phoenix) is a regional airliner developed by the company COMAC. It is the first passenger jet developed and manufactured in series in People’s Republic of China. This aircraft program is supported by nineteen European and US aviation suppliers, including General Electric (engine development), Honeywell (systems fly-by-wire) and Rockwell Collins (avionics)

The aircraft manufacturer COMAC ARJ21 refers to as a plane «designed by Chinese, with independent property rights fully,» although this plane outwardly resembles the Boeing 717 aircraft (MD-95). The model McDonnell Douglas MD-80 had been previously manufactured under license in China.

Accordingly, the ARJ21 has many features that are reminiscent reactors 95 McDonnell Douglas MD-with a fuselage nose and tail section similar. Wings instead has redrawn by the Ukrainian manufacturer Antonov.

COMAC members of the consortium, which was created with the purpose of developing this aircraft, are responsible for the manufacture and assembly of parts ARJ21:

› Chengdu Aircraft Industry Group: Construction of the nose of the aircraft.
› Xian Aircraft Company: construction of the wings and fuselage.
› Shenyang Aircraft Corporation: Construction of the empennage.

First commercial flight of the ARJ21

Beijing, China · The first reactor of Chinese passengers for regional flights, the Comac ARJ21, today made its first commercial flight, in what amounts to a small milestone for the fledgling civil aviation industry of China.

The appliance company Chengdu Airlines, made the journey from Chengdu (capital of Sichuan Province) and Shanghai with 70 passengers on board, local media reported.

Officials, executives manufacturer and Chinese journalists were among the first passengers on the flight, which took off after an official ceremony included a ribbon cutting.

The ARJ21 is actually a derivative of the old McDonnell Douglas DC-9/MD-80, which was produced under license in China brought from US teams, and taking the configuration characteristic of the two rear engines, one on each side of the fuselage.

The aircraft, which have already received more than 300 orders from 19 airlines (especially Chinese, but also from other countries in Asia and Africa) has had several years behind in their development and commercial use problems in technical development.

In fact, this plane, which seeks to be a rival for regional aircraft such as Brazil’s Embraer and Canada’s Bombardier, began as a project in 2002 and made its first test flight in 2008, but its commercial application has failed to become a reality until now.

Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) is a state-owned conglomerate of several aeronautical companies established in 2008 to unify the civil aviation projects in the Asian giant, and «inherited» the project AJR21 of one of the companies that formed.

COMAC has also completed the development of a larger jet, the C919, which aims to compete with the Airbus A320 and Boeing B737, which has more than 500 orders for twenty aircraft carriers and managers.

However, the C919 has also suffered long delays. After being officially presented last November, this aircraft can accommodate between 158 and 174 passengers could enter service in 2017 if no further delay.

Although the design and development of both models is Chinese, much of the most sophisticated components are manufactured abroad, especially engines. A\W

Convertir a Aerolíneas en sustentable

AW | 2016 06 028 0015 | AIRLINES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Convert to Aerolíneas in sustainable

«We are at the opportunity to make a sustainable Airlines signature». The president of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Isela Costantini, reiterated that it has clear objectives which will be the future of the company. «We can improve the connectivity of Argentina and Argentina with the world»

The president of Aerolíneas Argentinas, Isela Costantini reiterated that it has «clear goals» about what the future of the company and said he is against «the opportunity to turn the company into a financially sustainable company.»

Constantini said the ultimate goal «is a central change, because we can derive allow public resources to more pressing causes.»

In an interview with a specialist in aviation website, the head of the flagship airline said «we can improve connectivity in Argentina and Argentina to the world: we have an operational and commercial base that allows us to expand the network efficiency and enhance more connectivity. Add more passengers in the cabotage market and apalancarnos network that enables us the SkyTeam alliance which we are part. «

He revealed that the focus of management is «to achieve sustainability; enhance connectivity with service excellence and recover the sense associated with the flag carrier pride. These are issues that are socializing within the company, with the unions, with the agencies, the Government and many others with whom we work on a daily basis, so they can support us and together achieve these goals. «

He mentioned as a strategy have put the focus «on lower costs, become more efficient, analyze new business opportunities as cargo or services to third parties, for example» and in that sense remarked that «each area has faced significant savings and continue with workshops continuous improvement, as to be an ongoing process. The only way to achieve the goal of sustainability is whether everyone in the company we become aware that it is a collective and hand task: we must all make the effort to cut costs and spend more intelligently. «

«The commercial aviation business is a very low margins and although a priori think that there are things that can make a marginal contribution girl, Aerolíneas today must explore every one of the opportunities within their focus and we will do». He ruled versions regarding the low route and noted that «at the operational level, is also to streamline the current network, flying more and better. For example, some initial performance numbers international routes begin to show more encouraging results, ie that there are many opportunities for improvement. The are exploring each and every one. «

In this regard special emphasis on freight transportation as one of the nodules business to increase, arguing that «the world is shifting from a structure with freighters to be able to use the belly of the aircraft to boost cargo business. We have set as part of the organization charges under the wing of the commercial area because we understand that depends on how promote the use of each trip, with passengers or cargo. It can take more space, today we are not promoting enough. There is an opportunity and we want to exploit,» he said.

«The commercial aviation business is a very low margins and although a priori think that there are things that can make a marginal contribution girl, Aerolíneas today must explore every one of the opportunities within your focus and we will. Charges is no exception», he said.

Costantini said that «we are committed to growing the number of passengers and consolidate our portion. We believe it is possible. Yet many people have never flown on an airplane. There are encouraging examples in Brazil, Colombia and Chile, markets have increased in recent years their cabotage markets. We believe that with the network, destinations, services and appropriate fees can help to grow the cabotage market and maintain and improve our participation.»

He also referred to the new routes are exploring and that historically were not profitable as Bariloche-Viedma or Córdoba-Rio Cuarto, citing that «we are already flying the most important trunk routes with good results. Resta explore new opportunities for more marginal they may seem a priori. We believe there is potential and we should explore it. Our internal analyzes show that these routes have potential.»

In the same vein he ruled flights for example from Córdoba to Miami or Europe, as are proposing other companies, stating that «for us the Córdoba Miami route was unprofitable and facing that fact we have a responsibility to use resources efficiently. In fact, the performance of the third frequency non stop Miami from Ezeiza is proving positive. All other airlines have another network and another network in the region that perhaps allows you to do this route. For us the differential offer nonstop flights is a strong competitive advantage that we attach ourselves as a differential value.»

In another finally referred to the competition begin operating soon in the country, such as Avianca or Ryanair stating that «we will defend the competitive stance of airlines, understanding that the rules do not look us and that competition – as a proven fact worldwide-it will come sooner or later. We are putting a lot of focus in order to compete and fly more and better, defending the position that we have gained over the years.» A\W

Pedido informes de Andes Líneas Aéreas

servicios_slider

AW | 2016 06 26 16:40 | AIRLINES

Order reports on Andes Líneas Aéreas

They want to know who used the free tickets with Andes. The provincial deputy Manuel Pagliaroni requested a request for information that was approved Thursday by the Legislature.

Deputy Provincial block Let’s change Manuel Pagliaroni asked the provincial government to report the details of passengers who, until this month, made use of the quota that, in total for all 2016, is 14,458 passages that are included in the consideration that the State has the agreement signed with Andes Líneas Aéreas.

Pagliaroni asked him through a draft resolution presented and approved at the last session of the Legislature, held on Thursday. The provincial deputy asked to report to the Legislature on the «details of passengers who have traveled in the Andes Airlines company, using the quota of 14,458 tickets issued in character compensation for the Government of the province of Chubut, during the months January, February, March, April, May and June this year.»

The detail requested that includes «name, identification number, origin and destination of the trip, travel date, agency or responsible for requesting the same official» stated.

In mid-April, the legislature had anticipated that it planned to request information in this regard, to further warn that was not included in the agreed route to the mountain area of Chubut.

At that time, Pagliaroni recalled that the Government signed an agreement with Andes Líneas Aéreas will be implemented throughout 2016, whereby the Province will provide more than six million liters of fuel, in return for which the company will grant you more than 14,000 tickets free of charge.

«Through this agreement and the like that have been signed for several years in the governments of Buzzi and Das Neves, have had a significant amount of ‘free’ airfare freely available, which could be used by government officials and aimed at different intermediary organizations,» said Pagliaroni.

Una mirada a la CEO de Aerolíneas

image572148279c0ee8.92135367

AW | 2016 06 26 15:33 | AIRLINES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

A look at the CEO of Aerolíneas

Argentina’s seven month old government wants to be a regional example of how South American countries can keep state-control of key enterprises, and run them like a for-profit business. That’s president Mauricio Macri’s thinking at least. For over 10 years, countries from Venezuela to Argentina have — within varying degrees — given the government control over its biggest enterprises. The end result has been a disaster.  In Venezuela, PDVSA faces a credit default. In Brazil, privately held construction companies gaming for lucrative government contracts with oil major Petrobras destroyed the left-wing Workers’ Party and set the economy on fire.  Nevertheless, giving the reins of state-owned-enterprises to A-list executives from the private sector does not come with pixie dust, as Aerolíneas Argentina’s 45-year-old CEO is finding out.

Isela Costantini was hired in December to turn around a company that has been cast aside by Iberia Airlines, dumped by the Spanish government, given up on by American Airlines, and finally taken over by the government of Cristina Kirchner, who knew as much about managing airlines as she did about managing the country’s economy.

She is now the proud mother of an ugly duckling. If all goes well, this story turns out just as well for the airline as it did for the little bird created by Dutch writer Hans Christian Anderson.

“We see the light at the end of the tunnel and think we can reach solvency by 2018,” says the newly minted government airline chief. She’s a tad uncomfortable in that statement. A blue and white Boeing comes in for a landing at the Jorge Newbury Airport just outside her window. She watches it land. They haven’t paid for it yet. “There are a lot of things I’m still learning,” she says.

 ElLitoral-291853-1400x840

Constantini was invited by Macri’s Transportation Minister Guillermo Dietrich to join the government’s team in December. At the time she was head of GM Argentina, a company reeling from the Brazil economic crisis as much as it was from Argentina’s. GM only makes two cars in Argentina: the Agile hatchback and the Classic, an entry level sedan. Over 60% of what her assembly lines produced went to Brazil, a country that runs through her veins. She was born in Sao Paulo in 1971 and moved to Córdoba, Argentina when she was 16. She got her MBA from Latin America’s preferred business school, the University of Chicago, and met GM executives there. Back then, the Detroit automaker was looking at growth in Brazil and Argentina and wanted Brazilian executives to run the business rather than Americans. She was being groomed for senior executive status it ever since she started at GM Brazil in 1998. This is a person who learns on the job, and sticks with it.

“We went through very hard times together in 2015 because of the economic environment and restrictions for imported vehicles here, but Isela always managed to get us through these critical moments,” says Sergio Medeiros, GM Argentina’s Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing Director. Medeiros worked with her between 2010 and 2012 and again in 2015. “She’s cool under pressure. She was very good at generating confidence for the team when we needed it most.” A\W

Chilean Airways comienza operaciones

Chilean Airways
AW | 2016 06 25 17:20 | AIRLINES

AIRGWAYS ® Icon-AW

Chilean Airways prepares began operations

The Chilean company based in Chile Airways will start operations in the coming days after making the corresponding check

For the start of commercial operations of passenger and cargo has registered a Boeing CC-CVI 737-200ADV with registration. This aircraft was equipped and relizado its exterior painted in SAE facilities in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

The Boeing 737-200ADV was built by Boeing with serial number SN22367 LN: 706, belonging to the Boeing 737-2Q3 version. His first operational flight was made EL 01/10/1980. It was originally set up to Y120, using two engines PW JT8D-17.

The operating life of the Boeing 737-200 SN22367 Southwest Airlines began with the November 13, 1980, continuing with operators such as Japan Transocean, FSB, then through LanPerú, LAN Chile, LAN Express, Sky Airline and Aero Desierto in 1 May 2015. his latest operator is Chilean Airways will begin flights soon. The aircraft has to date an age of 35.7 years.

The test flights and acceptance were done, hoping that this week the plane is moved to Iquique, a city that will be the base of operations of Chilean Airways.

Chilean Airways is a new airline based in the Republic of Chile, owned by businessman Jose Bolivar, who acquired AeroDesierto S.A. (ADA) after the latter was put on sale after the cessation of their limited operations in May and June 2015. At the moment, the airline will use the same Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of AeroDesierto, also exploited part of its technical and human resources.

Unlike its predecessor, Chilean Airways proposes a new commercial strategy within an approach that aims to develop an air connectivity in northern Chile at home and abroad to countries like Bolivia or Paraguay.

One of the first measures taken by the new owner was, for example, the transfer of the base and commercial Calama to Iquique. From this city, you want to develop passenger and cargo routes to destinations all over Chile in the North Grande, mainly through direct and nonstop flights, avoiding as far as possible, incurring additional costs that may complicate the operation.

Meanwhile, as part of the measures taken, the company reached an agreement with ONE Airlines to lend air services during the maintenance period using B737-300. A decision is meant as assertively as part of seeking opportunities for income generation necessary to enable overcome the first and most difficult stage of operation while open space in the complex Chilean air market.

Chilean Airways is the last of the new airlines that have been created in Chile and the one that has done it under a highly challenging of considering the current economic context scenario. In its proposal, the airline hopes to «provide excellent service passenger, cargo and mails with next-generation aircraft, in order to meet all the demands of regular travelers and tourists.» His vision in the airline industry «is nationally and internationally operating with a return that positively influence its partners and employees.» Safety, efficiency, professionalism and punctuality, are the values assumed by this new venture. A\W

Southwest delays delivery of 67 Boeing 737 MAX 8

Southwest Airlines will delay delivery of the aircraft by as long as six years as it focuses on near-term technology and operational improvements

Southwest Airlines will postpone delivery of 67 Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft by as many as six years, pushing $1.9 billion of spending on planes into the next decade.

The airline also plans to accelerate six 737-800 orders to next year from 2018 to help cover the already announced early retirement of its oldest 737s. The moves are the second shake-up of Southwest’s aircraft order book since 2013 and were unveiled in a presentation to investors Thursday.

The new schedule doesn’t change Southwest’s plans to take the first delivery of the MAX 8, Boeing’s newest version of the 737, next year. The changes will help control capital spending as Southwest invests in technology updates during the next five years that will bolster its flight operations. The carrier will roll out a new domestic reservation system in 2017.

“It has nothing to do with the MAX. The MAX is a fabulous airplane and we will fly it in 2017,” Chief Financial Officer Tammy Romo said. “It really is shells, or the number of aircraft.”

The moves underscore the risk for Boeing and Airbus as they introduce new, fuel-efficient versions of their 737 and A320 narrowbody models. The plane makers are also plotting an increase in single-aisle production to take advantage of order books largely sold out through the end of the decade.

Southwest pioneered the low-cost carrier model that helped make the 737 into Boeing’s all-time best-seller. The airline is the largest operator of the aircraft as well as one of the largest buyers of the upgraded MAX, with 200 orders.

But Southwest also has become one of the biggest customers of cheap, middle-aged 737s on to the market as airlines retrench or upgrade to newer versions.

The Dallas-based carrier has lined up dozens of used aircraft to make up for the early retirements of its so-called 737 Classic fleet, which it will park by late next year.

Boeing shifted around production slots to accommodate Southwest’s strategy, said Boeing spokesman Doug Alder. It had no trouble finding other takers given its backlog of 3,213 unfilled MAX orders. A\W
