A330 Brussels Airlines incident

The two turbines of an A330 of Brussels Airlines fail

The flight SN-358 Brussels Airlines Airbus A330-200 was flying at 40,000 feet when the number one engine stopped working. The commanders managed to start it, when the plane was descending the number two engine failed several times and was disconnected.

The Airbus A330-223 of Brussels Airlines, which flew from the capital of the Republic of Congo to Brussels, Belgium, suffered the breakdown of the two engines at different times of its trip, when it was flying over Algeria. The plane was flying at 40,000 feet when the number one engine stopped working. The crew immediately declared the emergency situation and prepared the landing in Djerba, Tunisia. However, the commanders tried to restart the engine, which responded and therefore resumed their normal route to Brussels.

At 05:37 in the morning, Belgian time, when the plane was descending towards the Zaventem Airport, in Brussels, engine number 2 failed several times. The engine was disconnected while going down from 40 to 28 thousand feet. Finally the plane landed normally at 05:45 on the 25L runway in Brussels. The episode, according to speculations, could be related to the contamination of the fuel, since a situation of this type is extraordinarily unusual.

The incident occurred ten days ago and since then the plane is at the airport, inoperative. The device has the OO-SFU license plate and the SN 358 service was flying. The Belgian security agency has made public the details of the incident. Suspicions point to possible fuel contamination at the Kinshasa Airport in the Congo. A \ W

Attack of Lockerbie

Thirty years after the attack of Pan Am flight PA-103

Pan Am Airways flight PA103 was a Pan Am transatlantic flight from Frankfurt to Detroit via London and New York. On December 21, 1988, N739PA, the plane that operated the transatlantic section of the route, was destroyed by a bomb, killing the 243 passengers and 16 crew members, a disaster known as the Lockerbie bombing. Large sections of the aircraft crashed into residential areas of Lockerbie, Scotland, killing 11 people on land.

Following a three-year joint investigation by Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), arrest warrants were issued for two Libyan citizens in November 1991. In 1999, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi delivered to the two men for their trial Camp Zeist, The Netherlands, after protracted negotiations and UN sanctions. In 2001, Libyan intelligence officer Abdelbaset al-Megrahi was imprisoned for life after being convicted of 270 counts of murder in connection with the attack. In August 2009, he was released by the Scottish government for compassion reasons after being diagnosed with prostate cancer. He died in May 2012 as the only person convicted of the attack.

In 2003, Gaddafi accepted responsibility for the Lockerbie attack and paid compensation to the families of the victims, although he maintained that he had never given the order for the attack. During the Libyan Civil War in 2011, former Justice Minister Mustafa Abdul Jalil claimed that the Libyan leader had personally ordered the bombing, although he later refused. A \ W

Al Qaeda seeks to attack aircraft in Europe, warns the Security Minister of the United Kingdom

British Security Minister Ben Wallace warned on Sunday that the terrorist group Al-Qaeda was in a resurgent mode and could be planning major terrorist attacks on airports and airplanes.

The terrorist group Al Qaeda is resurgent and seeks to carry out attacks on passenger planes in Europe, warned the Minister of Security of the United Kingdom, Ben Wallace. The current Minister Ben Wallace said that Al Qaeda, the group behind the infamous attacks on the World Trade Center that killed nearly 3,000 people in the United States on September 11, 2001, «still aspires to aviation attacks and is developing. to shoot down planes, the threat of aviation is real, they have become familiar with new methods», said Wallace.

AW-70003422.jpg

The minister said that the British government has injected ₤ 25 million pounds into a joint research program of the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Transport of the United Kingdom on how to protect aircraft even more from new chemicals, different methods of explosion and threats internal The decline of the Islamic state meant that Al-Qaeda would try to reassert itself as the world’s leading terrorist group and an aviation attack could be its calling card. It is believed that Al-Qaeda and its affiliates are active in Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and other Middle Eastern countries.

«Al-Qaeda sat quietly on the corner and tried to figure out what the 21st century looked like, while the Islamic State became the last band of terrorist children, but they have not left, they have reorganized. Qaeda appear in the areas that we thought were inactive, they have explored other ways to put bombs on airplanes, we have spoken publicly about an internal threat problem, if you can not enter through the front door, you will try to enter through the front door. We should be alert to Al-Qaeda in 2019. They are revitalizing some previous links and support, and their ambition towards aviation is real», said Wallace.

The UK minister said improvements in airport security meant that terrorists were less likely to smuggle explosives through the terminal’s security systems. The minister also confirmed that 13 Islamist terrorist plots have stopped in Britain since March 2017. A \ W

Disputa legal-comercial Lion Air-Boeing

Resultado de imagen para Lion Air Boeing 737-8 MAX takeoff

AW | 2018 12 18 16:30 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

AW-7000064433.jpgLegal-commercial dispute Lion Air-Boeing

Dispute between Boeing and Lion Air would lose business for US $ 22,000 million between the aircraft manufacturer and Indonesia’s Lion Air airline

The crash of Lion Air‘s JT-610 flight of a Boeing 737-8 MAX biased the lives of 189 people in Indonesia, is now becoming a $ 22 billion dispute between the aircraft manufacturer and one of the chiefs of most influential aviation in Asia.

In a rare public dispute between Boeing and one of its biggest clients, Lion Air. The low cost airline has threatened to cancel an order of planes worth billions of dollars due to what it says is the unfair reaction of Boeing to the accident. The man who faces the American aviation giant is Rusdi Kirana, the owner of Lion Air, and although he was little known to the public outside of Southeast Asia before the accident, he is a legend in the industry. Eighteen years after he and his brother rented a Boeing 737-200 to start a service from Jakarta to Bali, Kirana, 55, made Lion Air the largest airline in Indonesia, with one of the largest order books. great in the world.

Lion Air is the third largest buyer of the Boeing 737 line. But seven weeks after incorporating its first two-month-old Boeing 737-8 MAX, it had an air crash in the Java Sea. The Lion Air CEO started a public dispute with the aircraft manufacturer. Lion Air is drafting documents to scrap its US $ 22 billion orders with Boeing because, according to Kirana, the manufacturer unfairly implicated its airline in the disaster. «They were in a difficult situation and they decided to hit me, they have been behaving unethically, they have been acting immorally in this relationship, so we just took separate paths», Kirana said in an interview in Jakarta, referring to Boeing’s response. to Indonesia’s preliminary report on the accident.

Boeing declined to comment on the discussions with Kirana, but said in a statement that «Lion Air is a valuable customer and we are supporting them at this difficult time». Lion Air has reported that «it is taking all measures to fully understand all aspects of this accident, and is working closely with the investigation team and all regulatory authorities involved».

Accident JT-610 Lion Air

The dispute revolves around Indonesia’s worst air disaster in two decades. Moments after takeoff on 29 October 2018, the pilots of Lion Air’s JT-610 flight struggled to control their Boeing 737-8 MAX, as erroneous sensor data repeatedly forced the aircraft to tilt its nose downward, according to the preliminary report, which included evidence of the plane’s flight. Data logger, recovered by divers. The plane crashed into the Java Sea minutes after leaving Jakarta, killing everyone on board.

The report of the National Transport Security Committee of Indonesia (KNKT) last month did not find a cause for the accident. But it showed that a faulty sensor was not repaired before the fatal flight, even though it failed on the plane’s previous trip and criticized Lion Air’s safety culture. The voice recorder in the cockpit of the plane has not yet been found. Boeing’s response to the NTSC report annoyed Kirana. In a statement, the Chicago-based manufacturer Boeing noted that the crashed plane continued to suffer speed and altitude problems on previous flights, even after maintenance work was carried out. Boeing said the pilots on the flight immediately prior to JT-610 had overcome similar problems by following the appropriate procedures. He said the 737 MAX «is as safe as any airplane that has flown the skies».

Kirana took the answer as Boeing’s attempt to blame him. «The plane was having a problem, why are they doing it now and against me, creating a perception that I was to blame for the accident?» According to Kirana, Boeing has yet to deliver about 250 aircraft to Lion Air. The manufacturer’s orders and deliveries website shows 188 unfilled orders. The dispute could lead to the massive cancellation of the remaining Boeing 737 MAX, where Boeing could now lose a potentially lost customer, Lion Air.

It is almost impossible to cancel orders for firm aircraft without financial penalties. Kirana rejected suggestions that its threat to scrap purchases is a ploy to cut back an unnecessarily large order book and that Lion Air is struggling to pay for its planes. The airline’s deliveries are fully funded until the end of 2020. But Kirana may have other options and a large cancellation of a major customer who questioned the reliability of Boeing’s best-selling aircraft could have repercussions for the manufacturer, even if it managed to impose financial fines to Lion Air. If Kirana can not cancel the orders, he could still resell or lease the new Boeing aircraft to other airlines, said Gerry Soejatman, an aviation analyst in Indonesia. That, in turn, would distort the market for the new and used Boeing 737s, he said.

Even after a serious accident, it is rare for a public dispute to arise between airlines and large aircraft manufacturers when the cause of the accident has not been determined. But Kirana has a reputation for toughness and perseverance.

Now, Lion Air as a group has about 350 aircraft that fly to around 300 destinations, with another 467 Boeing and Airbus aircraft in order. Kirana, a former adviser to President Joko Widodo, is now an Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia and is no longer in charge of the daily management of the airline. But the loss of the JT-610 flight has brought it to the world’s attention and has made it lean on its faith to deal with the tragedy.

The dispute could lead to the cancellation or massive orders strategies of the remaining Boeing 737 MAX, where Boeing could now lose a potentially lost customer, Lion Air. A \ W

The Australian Transportation Security Bureau (ATSB) says it is investigating an incident involving an ATR 72-600 from Virgin Australia in which both engines of the regional turbohalic aircraft caught fire, one after the other, while flying under heavy rain. The aircraft is propelled by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127M turboprops.

The incident near Canberra Airport involved ATR 72-600 VH-FVN on a flight from Sydney, the ATSB said Monday afternoon. «As the plane descended through 11,000 feet under heavy rain, the right engine power retreated (decreased) and the engine shut down. The engine restarted automatically in five seconds. The descent continued and, when passing by 10,000 feet, the power of the left engine also receded and the engine shut down before turning it on again automatically. The crew selected manual engine ignition for the rest of the flight and landing», said the ATSB.

The plane landed safely without further incident, but the flightaware.com flight tracking website shows that VH-FVN remained on the ground in Canberra for the next three days, before returning to service by operating a flight to Sydney on Monday through the morning.

The ATSB says that it has started the phase of gathering evidence from its investigation of the incident and that it has downloaded the flight data recorder from the aircraft. The investigations usually take 12 months to complete, but the safety researcher says that: «If a critical safety problem is identified during the course of the investigation, the ATSB will immediately notify the relevant parties so that appropriate action can be taken».

VH-FVN was first delivered to Skywest Airlines, for operations on behalf of Virgin Australia, in September 2012 (one month before Virgin Australia announced its intention to acquire Skywest, which would later be called Virgin Australia Regional Airlines). A \ W

TSB Canadá regulaciones seguridad

20171213-0-C-2.jpg

AW | 2018 12 15 16:43 | AVIATION SAFETY

Imagen relacionadaThe Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) has launched safety recalls related to icing

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), which investigates aviation accidents, recommended regulator Transport Canada to take urgent steps to ensure that Canadian airports count with adequate equipment thaw measures. Canadian researchers urge regulators to address the formation of ice on airplanes. The Canadian aviation safety agency is urging regulators to address the risks related to icing that may have contributed to the fatal fall of a ATR 42-320 turboprop operated by West Wind Aviation with 22 passengers and 3 crew, in northern Canada a year ago. Twenty-four occupants left unharmed and one pax was subsequently killed.

The agency also recommends that Transport Canada take measures to ensure that airlines comply with existing regulations related to ice formation, according to the TSB on December 14, 2018. «The board recommends that the Department of Transportation collaborate with air operators and airlines. airport authorities to identify places where there are inadequate de-icing and anti-icing equipment, and take urgent measures to ensure that adequate equipment is available», says the TSB.

Canada’s Transport Minister, Marc Garneau, responded by ordering Transport Canada to «examine the thaw situation urgently. In my opinion, Transport Canada is conducting a comprehensive review of the two recommendations made today and will provide a formal response to the together within the required period of 90 days».

 Flight WEW280

The recommendations of the TSB occur in the midst of its investigation into the accident of WEW-280 flight from West Wind Aviation on 13 December 2017, an ATR 42-300 that fell shortly after takeoff from Fond-du-Lac in the north of Saskatchewan The aircraft flew through icy conditions when it descended to land at Fond-du-Lac before the accident, but it did not stop before taking off. The plane has collided with trees, no less far from the end of the runway, killing one passenger and wounding the other 24 people on board, the researchers said. «It was determined that the crew took off from Fond-du-Lac with ice contamination on the critical surfaces of the aircraft, the operator had some de-icing equipment in the terminal building, but it was not suitable for defrosting an ATR-42», says the TSB on December 14.

As part of the investigation, which remains open, the TSB sent questionnaires related to ice formation to 83 airlines flying from remote northern airports. Some 650 responses revealed that pilots frequently take off with contaminated aircraft surfaces and that many remote airports lack adequate de-icing equipment. «Taking off with contamination on critical surfaces is a deviation that has normalized», says the TSB.

After the accident of 2017, Transport Canada suspended the West Wind operator certificate. The TSB reinstated the certificate in May after determining that the airline could comply with aviation regulations. A \ W

IATA lanza plataforma Turbulence Aware

Resultado de imagen para turbulence aware

AW | 2018 12 13 13:22 | AVIATION SAFETY

IATA launches Turbulence Aware a platform that allows airlines to share turbulence data

IATA has launched its Turbulence Aware data resource to help airlines avoid turbulence when planning routes tactically in flight. Turbulence Aware increases the capacity of an airline to forecast and avoid turbulence by grouping and sharing (in real time) turbulence data generated by participating airlines.

Currently, airlines rely on pilot reports and meteorological warnings to mitigate the impact of turbulence on their operations. These tools, although effective, have limitations due to the fragmentation of the data sources, the inconsistencies in the level and quality of the available information and the inaccuracy of location and the subjectivity of the observations. For example, there is no standardized scale for the severity of turbulence that a pilot can report more than a light, moderate or severe scale, which becomes very subjective between aircraft of different sizes and pilot experience.

Turbulence Aware improves industry capabilities by collecting data from several contributing airlines, followed by rigorous quality control. Then, the data is consolidated into a single, anonymous and objective database, to which the participants can access. Turbulence Aware data becomes actionable information when it is sent to an airline’s airmail or dispatch systems. The result is the first global information, in real time, detailed and objective so that pilots and operations professionals manage the turbulence.

«Turbulence Aware is a great example of the potential for digital transformation in the airline industry. The airline industry has always cooperated in terms of security, its number one priority. Big data is now driving what we can achieve. In the case of Turbulence Aware, the more accurate forecast of the turbulence will provide a real improvement for passengers, whose trips will be even safer and more comfortable», said Alexandre de Juniac, IATA’s Managing Director and CEO.

The challenge of managing turbulence is expected to increase as climate change continues to impact weather patterns. This has implications for both safety and flight efficiency. Turbulence is the main cause of injuries to passengers and crew in non-fatal accidents, according to data from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As we move forward to have accurate turbulence data available at all flight levels, pilots will be able to make much more informed decisions about higher flight levels with smoother air. Being able to climb at these altitudes will result in a more optimal fuel burn, which will ultimately lead to a reduction in CO2 emissions. A \ W

AW | 2018 12 10 11:06 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

New findings of the MH-370

Air safety authorities release new findings of alleged debris from flight MH-370

New debris has been revealed from the MH-370 flight of the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777-200ER. They revealed five new objects that they believe were part of the remains. One of the objects comes from the interior floor of the Boeing 777 and offers more clues as to the precise location of the accident site, an expert said. It also helps to dispel the theory that the main body of the aircraft, known as the fuselage, is intact in the Indian Ocean. Aviation expert Victor Iannello, who helped Australian officials look for the MH-370, said the piece is consistent with a high-speed impact.

The plane was on a routine flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing on March 8, 2014, with 227 passengers and 12 crew on board when it veered off course and then flew south across the Indian Ocean.

The new debris could help to understand what happened with flight MH-370. Despite two large-scale searches on the seabed, only scattered pieces of rubble have been found washed on the beaches of the Indian Ocean.

Resultado de imagen para MH370 debris floor panellingResultado de imagen para new debris MH370A PIECE OF FLOOR PANELLING WITH A SERIAL NUMBER, ALMOST CERTAINLY FROM MH370

The relatives of the passengers and crew aboard delivered the five fragments to the Malaysian government while urging them to reopen the investigation and resume the search for the missing plane. Families said the debris was found by villagers in Madagascar, the Indian Ocean island where the pieces believed to have come from the plane have been previously washed.

Mr. Iannello wrote in his blog that a piece was identified as a shattered fragment of the interior floor board of a Boeing 777. «The location of the piece in the Boeing 777 and the nature of the damage is consistent with a high impact speed, and therefore has probative value». Mr. Iannello said that the discovery offers a new perspective on where and how the MH370 crashed into the sea, with three main possibilities pending. One of them is that the debris field was in an area previously scanned by the sonar, but it was lost or misidentified, although he pointed out that this scenario is very unlikely. The others are that the MH370 crashed relatively close to a line known as the seventh arc, west of Australia, but farther north than the previously searched area, or impacted at a previously sought latitude but farther from the seventh arc than it is assumed. However, he cautioned that it is difficult to use the location of the debris discoveries and the timing of the discharges to pinpoint where to renew the search. Malaysian and international researchers believe that the MH-370 was diverted thousands of kilometers away before submerging in the Indian Ocean.

US debris hunter Blaine Gibson said the debris has been inspected by independent experts, who believe it comes from a Boeing 777 aircraft. The piece that can be a floor panel indicates that the plane may have broken on impact and that There is an intact fuselage under water, he said.

Transportation Minister Anthony Loke, who met with relatives today, said the government would consider resuming a search if credible leads are provided. «We are open to proposals, but we must have some credible leads before deciding». A \ W
