Change Director General of Embraer

Embraer SA announced that its General Director will resign to the post

1280px-Embraer_logo.svg.pngEmbraer announced that its CEO, Paulo César Silva, will resign his position on April 22, 2019 before the conclusion of the Joint Venture agreement with the Boeing aerospace company. Although no successor has been announced, Embraer says a new CEO will be appointed shortly to replace Paulo Silva. The company added that the board will recruit a new executive director externally.

CEO Paulo Silva joined Embraer from the financial market 22 years ago to structure the company’s sales financing area. For six years he served as President and CEO of Commercial Aviation and in 2013 launched the E2 program, the latest iteration of the narrow body E-Jet line. Silva became president and CEO of Embraer Group in 2016, at which time his administration established three key initiatives related to the «creation of value» and the sustainability of the company, led by the Boeing transaction. The second initiative involved the creation of the Passion for Excellence program, a structural transformation project focused on reducing costs and increasing operational efficiency and generating significant annual recurring savings. The third focused on the creation of EmbraerX, responsible for disruptive innovation and the development of future projects such as the association eVTOL (vertical electric take-off and landing vehicle) with Uber.

«Paulo Cesar idealized the partnership with Boeing and led the negotiation process of the transaction that will take Embraer and Brazil to a much more competitive and prominent level in the global aviation industry», said Embraer President Alexandre Silva. Embraer invited Silva to serve as the board’s chief advisor, in which he agreed to assist in the transition to the future president and CEO and advise the board on asset monitoring and segregation of resources as part of the process to conclude the partnership with Boeing

Boeing & Embraer

Boeing is expected to take over 80% of Embraer’s commercial aircraft division for US$ 4.2 billion, an agreement that was approved by the Brazilian government earlier this year, and shareholders approved it shortly thereafter. The goal of the acquisition is not only to expand its product range, but also to compete with the Airbus A220. Boeing and Embraer are confident that the joint venture will see the Embraer E2 family of aircraft grow all over the world with the additional boost from Boeing.

In addition, Boeing will use the partnership to increase the potential of the new KC-390 military aircraft. Boeing will have a 49% stake in the program, leaving Embraer with the remaining 51%. As the process progresses smoothly, Boeing intends to complete the agreement by the end of this year. A \ W

Airbus A320 busca ganar mercado

AW-700122-Airbus.jpg

AW | 2019 03 19 12:19 | INDUSTRY / AVIATION SAFETY

Boeing 737, line-out

DOT investiga a FAA

Airbus can not build fast enough to replace market

AW-70099433Airbus SE could win market share in the narrowbodies aircraft segment. The Airbus A320NEO is the bestseller of the European manufacturer is the replacement for the Boeing 737 MAX that remains on the ground due to problems of insecurity. Although the consortium has a market in its favor to turn orders from the airlines, it faces a long delay like Boeing in the assembly line.

Boeing 737, line-out

The customers of the Boeing 737 MAX, will face the delay of the deliveries to the global operators, the installation of an improved software, the instructions and training, the economic losses due to the paralysis of the aircraft, among other details are among the negative aspects of the Global grounding of the Boeing 737 MAX fleet. Boeing has maintained that it will continue with the production line despite the fact that the model has been suspended to fly by the world aeronautical regulations bodies. Although there is no quick exit for the crisis of confidence that threatens the American builder industry, the Seattle giant will have to develop a strategy to maintain the customer base already relegated from the competition of the Airbus A320NEO.

AW-70990-Fortune.jpgAirlines & 737 MAX

Most of the airlines that have ordered 737 MAX have so far said they will keep them awaiting the results of the investigation. Canada’s low-cost airline, WestJet Airlines, became the second airline on Monday to warn that its financial performance will be affected by the global grounding of the 737 MAX fleet. The warning comes after Canada’s largest airline, Air Canada, issued a similar warning last Friday. The airline typically operates 24 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft from its fleet of 392 units.

One of the biggest challenges for airlines is that the A320NEO replacement aircraft simply is not available due initially to delays in engine deliveries and that the assembly line structure would not support a substantial increase in increased demand. Airbus is already working at full speed to produce enough aircraft to meet its existing order book and at the same time win new customers. At the end of February 2019, the company had an order book of 5,962 for its single-aisle aircraft. Of these, 5,814 were orders for the A320NEO and only 148 for the A320CEO. «In theory, they can change orders from Boeing to Airbus, but they will be waiting at the end of the Airbus queue.» There was a wait time of about three years for the new NEO, although favored customers could get a better position on the line», said Robert Stallard of Vertical Partners Research.

Airbus had already announced plans to increase the production of narrowbodies aircraft with a frequency of 60/month from 3Q2019, projecting 63/month by 2021 and analysts believe that it is unlikely to change due to the existing tensions in the supply chain. supply. Negotiating aircraft orders costs time and money and it was not an overnight decision, experts from the industry emphasized. Airbus would manage its orders and the demands of balances of those airlines that wanted previous deliveries with those that did not need them until later, but would have difficulties accepting new applications.

«For those airlines that already operated 737 MAX, one of the few options available is to lease an earlier version of the 737. They could, possibly get Boeing to get more 737 Next Generation at a discount price, of course, but that would cause even more disruptions in Boeing’s supply chain», said Mr. Stallard.

Norwegian Air Shuttle owns 18 Boeing 737-8 MAX in its total fleet of around 160, and another 92 in order, said last week that it would not «take the cost related to the new airplane we have to temporarily park. who produce this plane», said Executive Director Bjorn Kjos in a tight financial situation.

Aviation analysts said they expected customers to keep their 737 MAX orders unless a critical fault was found. Boeing has an order book of 4,659 aircraft of the latest narrowbodies version. «Customers may be tempted to cancel orders at the MAX, but they are likely to forego the cash advances they already made to Boeing», Chris Higgins, a Morningstar aerospace analyst, said in a note to clients last week.

Boeing has been working hard in the last year to get more 737 MAX in the competition with the A320NEO. The US group said last week it was still planning to maintain a production of 737 MAX at its current frequency of 52 per month despite suspending deliveries. However, a prolonged ground connection could eventually cause a backup of the aircraft in your facility.

The overall impact on the aviation industry so far is contained by the relatively small size of the fleet of 737 MAX. The American operators of the aircraft, American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and United Airlines, operate together only 72 aircraft of its combined fleet of approximately 2,400.

DOT investigates FAA

In an unusual move, the Department of Transportation is investigating the FAA’s approval of the 737 MAX aircraft. The focus is on an FAA office in the Seattle area that certifies the safety of the new aircraft models, as well as a separate office in the same region in charge of the training requirements.

737maxfeat (1)The influence of Boeing on the FAA

Boeing-Company-LogoBoeing controlled too much its own safety inspection

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) employees warned seven years ago that The Boeing Company had too much influence over new aircraft safety approvals, prompting an investigation by US Department of Transportation (DOT) auditors who confirmed that the agency had not done enough to hold Boeing accountable.

20150215-logo-faa_1.jpgAn investigation in 2012 found that the discord over Boeing’s treatment had created a «negative work environment» among employees of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) who approve the designs of new and modified aircraft, and many of them said that They had faced reprisals for speaking. His concerns are prior to the development of the Boeing 737 MAX.

On Sunday night, a person familiar with the Boeing 737 MAX said that the Inspector General of the Department of Transportation was examining the design certification of the airplane before the second of the two fatal accidents occurred. On Sunday, Ethiopia’s Transport Minister said the flight data recorders show clear similarities between the accidents of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET-302 on March 10, 2019 and Lion Air Flight JT-610 on October 29, 2018.

Safety inspection

Boeing Executive Director Dennis Muilenburg and FAA officials were forced to defend the quality of the new aircraft’s tests, but a Seattle Times investigation found that the US regulator delegated much of the safety assessment to Boeing and that the company, in turn, performed an analysis with crucial failures. Separately, a grand jury in Washington DC issued an extensive citation dated March 11, 2019 to at least one person involved in the development process of the 737 MAX.

In recent years, the FAA has transferred more authority over the approval of new aircraft to the manufacturer itself, including allowing Boeing to choose many of the staff members who oversee the tests and respond for safety. Only in recent months, Congress further expanded the subcontracting agreement. «It raises the question of whether the agency has adequate funding, the right staff and if there has been sufficient independent oversight», said Jim Hall, who served as chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board from 1994 to 2001 and is now a member aviation security consultant. According to a person familiar with the work who was not authorized to speak on the subject, at least part of the suspicious flight control software in the 737 MAX accidents was certified by one or more Boeing employees who worked on the agreement. of subcontracting.

The Wall Street Journal reported the latest investigation of the Inspector General for the first time. The regulator is trying to assess whether the FAA used appropriate design and engineering analysis standards to approve the 737 MAX’s anti-lock system, the newspaper said. Both Boeing and the Department of Transportation declined to comment on that investigation.

The FAA agency had reported that its «aircraft certification processes are well established and have produced consistently safe aircraft designs». The 737 MAX certification program followed the FAA’s standard certification process.

Grounding the 737 MAX

The Ethiopian Airlines plane crashed minutes after taking off from Addis Ababa, killing the 157 people on board. The accident caused most of the world to land Boeing’s 737-8 MAX aircraft for safety reasons, following the crash of JT-610 flight operated by Indonesia’s Lion Air airline that killed 189 people. Much of the attention was focused on a flight control system that can automatically push an airplane into a catastrophic dive in the nose if it malfunctions and the pilots do not react correctly.

In one of the most detailed descriptions so far of the Boeing-FAA relationship during the 737 MAX certification, the Seattle Times cited anonymous engineers who said the manufacturer had underestimated the power of flight control software in a safety analysis of the aircraft. system presented to the FAA. The newspaper said the analysis also failed to account for how the system could be restarted each time a pilot responded, in essence, by gradually raising the horizontal stabilizer to a diving position.

Software correction

Boeing reported that the FAA had reviewed the company’s data and had concluded that the aircraft complied with all regulatory and certification requirements. «The company, which is based in Chicago but designs and manufactures commercial aircraft in the Seattle area», he said there are some significant mischaracterizations in the comments of the engineers.

In a separate statement on Sunday, Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg reiterated the company’s sympathies for the affected families and support for research into the flight control system, known as Maneuvering Feature Enhancement System. «While researchers continue to work to establish definitive conclusions, Boeing is finalizing the development of a previously announced software update and a review of pilot training that will address the behavior of MCAS flight control law in response to erroneous sensor inputs», said Muilenburg.

FAA anonymous technical experts said that the managers pressed them to speed up the certification process since the development of the 737 MAX was nine months behind the Airbus A320NEO of its airline rival. The FAA has allowed the technical experts of aircraft manufacturers to act as their representatives to perform certain tests and approve parts for decades. The FAA expanded the scope of that program in 2005 to address concerns about how to keep pace with its workload. Known as the organization’s designation authorization, or ODA, it allowed Boeing and other manufacturers to choose the employees who approve the design work on behalf of the agency. Previously, the FAA approved each appointment. Under the new approach, which was fully implemented in 2009, the ODA representatives continue to comply with the legal requirements of the United States and the FAA has the authority to supervise them and request that their administration be changed.

In 2012, a special investigator from the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Transportation (DOT) sent a memorandum to the FAA’s chief audit officer advising him of the concerns expressed by the agency’s employees about the new process. Some complaints were made in anonymous faxes that were sent to the inspector general’s office, and the office followed interviews with employees at the FAA’s Transportation Aircraft Directorate. «Our investigation confirmed the employees’ allegations that the managers of the TAD and FAA headquarters have not always supported the efforts of the TAD employees to hold Boeing accountable and this has created a negative atmosphere within the TAD», he said. report sent on June 22, 2012 to the FAA.

Employees told investigators that managers had overturned a staff recommendation to eliminate the manager Boeing had chosen for the program and that they had not adequately addressed employee concerns about potential conflicts of interest, the note said. Employees, he said, saw this as evidence that management had too close a relationship with Boeing officials. Despite these concerns, as well as others raised in a subsequent report by the Inspector General, the US Congress has adopted the program as a way to improve the efficiency of the FAA.

President Donald Trump enacted a change in law on October 5. It allows manufacturers to request that the FAA eliminate the limitations on how the company’s representatives certify low and medium risk items, which gives them even more authority over their own products. «The agency does not have the budget to perform All the evidence and «the use of designated persons is absolutely necessary», said Steve Wallace, former head of accident investigations at the FAA. For the most part, it works extremely well. There is a high degree of integrity in the system.

FAA & Dreamliners

The program was also under discussion in the grounding of the Boeing 787 by the FAA’s art in 2013, after two fires of lithium battery packs. Designated engineering representatives from Boeing supervised testing of battery packs. A 2015 report from the Department of Transportation’s Inspector General, requested by US Representative Peter DeFazio, found that the FAA lacked an effective personnel model and a risk-based oversight process on the ODA program. DeFazio, an Oregon Democrat, now heads the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure and has said he will conduct a rigorous investigation to make sure the FAA is protecting safety.

Jim Hall, the former ex-President of the NTSB, said the agency’s move to shift power to manufacturers contributed to the unusual situation in which two of Boeing’s newly-introduced aircraft were grounded in a six-year period. Before the Dreamliner, the FAA had not ground a model since 1979. «When I was president of the NTSB, my most important job was who we hired, do we have the level of funding and experience we need in the federal government? attracting the kind of young and intelligent minds that continue to maintain our reputation in the aviation field?». Boeing encara crisis más difícil historia

Aviationweek-3004.jpgAW | 2019 03 17 22:38 | INDUSTRY

737maxfeat (1).pngBoeing faces more difficult crisis history

Boeing Isotype.pngThe Boeing Company faces the most difficult crisis in its history

The aerospace company Boeing is going through a bleak panorama facing the most important crisis in its history. The manufacturer could have a loss of confidence after the two plane crashes involving the Boeing 737 MAX line.

The world’s leading aerospace company is facing what is considered the biggest crisis in its century of history. In a race against the clock, Boeing must act fast to keep the open wound from getting deeper and deeper. After crashing on March 10, 2019 the second Boeing 737-8 MAX, numerous countries began to leave on the ground the most modern model of the line narrowbodies. When the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said that the planes were still safe, international pressure forced the FAA to retract when the United States presidency was forced to leave the Boeing 737 MAX family on shore. As a domino effect, the world closed the airspace to the narrowbody model and all the airlines in the world forbade flying the most box office plane of the American factory.

Risk factor’s

The entire commercial aviation industry has entered a territory never before explored due to industrial safety. The origin of the problem of the losses of the 737 MAX is not attributed only to a fault in the manufacture, the first analyzes point to a problem that combines automation and the human factor. The Black Boxes of the plane that crashed in Ethiopia are still being analyzed, but there are similarities of this accident with that of the Lion Air plane in October 2018 in Indonesia that affect the automatic stabilization system (MCAS) and the control capacity of the pilot. Therefore it is necessary to change and / or modify the software of the MCAS system, in principle they maintain that it is easy to solve, but it also requires that the pilot enters into the equation of the solution. In this case, pilots should familiarize themselves with the modified system again.

The challenge is huge for Boeing, but the damage to the image can be substantial. Boeing has been able to weather similar episodes, but the cost can go beyond the Boeing 737 MAX, recomposing the company’s reputation when the solution is found.

AW-7008002.png

Boeing had planned to carry out this week the first test flight of the Boeing 777X, the efficient version of the old twin-engine long-haul. It uses the advances of the Boeing 737 MAX and the Dreamliner, it has the biggest engines that equip an airplane and the tips of the wings are folded to operate on the track. The long delay is postponed and it is possible that the plan to develop a new medium-sized aircraft will also do so.

Rebellion in the henhouse

If the incident with the batteries of the Dreamliner is a reference, that crisis was resolved in four months. It is the time that Boeing has been working on the solution after the loss of the Boeing 737-8 MAX operated by Lion Air. Cowen estimates that it will take between six weeks and three months to find the remedy. Bank of America analysts do not rule out that the suspension could last half a year.

Sandy Morris, an aerospace industry analyst at Jefferies, looks more at the circumstances of the suspension. The double accident triggered a real «rebellion» against the aviation agency (FAA). A few hours after saying that the Boeing 737 MAX was safe to fly, the United Kingdom, Australia, the European Union and Canada prohibited the entry of the plane into its air space, «has never seen anything like this.»

The FAA is the employer that follows the industry in the process of certification of passenger aircraft. This outcome, analysts agree, is setting a precedent that could turn against other manufacturers such as Airbus, if one of its new aircraft is in a similar situation. But in the case of Boeing, it will mean more scrutiny when approving the solution it presents.

The global veto to the 737 MAX forced in parallel to Boeing to put in pauses the deliveries of its most popular model. The Boeing 737 leaves the assembly line at a rate of 52 units per month, with the idea of bringing them to 57 throughout 2019. The company, with 5,100 orders for this model, needs to maintain the pace of production so that the suspension does not create a disruption in the supply chain. Now they are parked on the track in Renton (Washington).

AW-7050001.png

Boeing, a giant as a country

Boeing’s business is as big as Ecuador’s economy and bigger than Venezuela’s or Luxembourg’s. Last year, this giant of the aerospace and defense industry registered revenues valued at US$ 101.1 billion. Of that total, US$ 60,700 million was generated by the commercial aviation division, equivalent to the national wealth of Slovenia, and a third of the global turnover is thanks to the Boeing 737. The twin-engine single-aisle, from which it has delivered More than 10,000 units since it entered service half a century ago, is more than its main cash generator. The Boeing 737 is also the product that opens markets like China. The growing demand for travel in emerging countries led him to wage a fierce battle over the past few years with his archenemy Airbus, his only rival. The duopoly fights for every order. But almost more important is the speed with which they manufacture the airplanes. Last year, Boeing made a total of 806 deliveries of all models and the orders it has accumulated in the portfolio have an estimated value of US$ 412,000 million. Although the Boeing 737 MAX will generate 48% of sales in 2019, being a new model, it only accounts for 2% of all flights in the United States.

The suspension of flights casts serious doubts about the immediate future of the Boeing 737 MAX. Nick Wyatt, aviation expert for Global Data, says that «this story is much bigger than anyone could have imagined. The damage to the reputation of the plane, it is considered is already done even if the investigation of the accident of Ethiopian Airlines determines that it was not a manufacturing problem».

Orders of the 737 MAX

«It’s hard to see how passengers can regain confidence in the plane in the short term», he says. In his opinion, any refusal of travelers to fly on a Boeing 737 MAX will force airlines to reconsider their orders. Standard & Poors notes that the suspension leaves a trail of uncertainty in its wake. But he points out that the plane is relatively new and that airlines have few options.

Change to Airbus is not so obvious, shares Cai von Rumohr of Cowen, because they have a sufficient order book to attend five years of production of the A320NEO, the rival of the 737 MAX. In any case, all agree that it would be very harmful for Boeing and even threaten the future of the series. Therefore, Credit Suisse says «it is very difficult to see the line where the crisis can end».

Collateral damage

Behind is the cost of repairing the 370 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft that are in service, as indicated by Ken Hernert from Canaccord. The estimate is US$ 1,500 million dollars if the cause is the system that controls stability. It is not much compared to the US$ 7.9 billion profit obtained by the commercial aircraft division. But it must still be revealed what caused the accident of the flights of Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air. To this amount can be added the delay in the payments of the airlines if the planes do not arrive.

Public pressure

This crisis and damage to the reputation of the Boeing 737 MAX can weaken you in the negotiation of future contracts. If, in addition, it affects the production rate of the airplane, that can subtract power from the component suppliers. All this without taking into account the public pressure of politicians, nor the demands of those affected or the impact on the 100,000 employees that Boeing has around the world.

Boeing is more than a national pride of the United States. It is also the company that has more weight in the Dow Jones index and any downside drag the rest of its components. But as they remember in Stifel, on the parquet floor «you go very quickly from being loved to being hated». Its market capitalization exceeded US$ 250,000 million before the accident of Ethiopian Airlines. From there to lose 12% of its value in the last week. The analysts of Edward Jones anticipate that Boeing will be in a kind of limbo until the cause of the accident is determined. «If the problem is mechanical or, worse, the certification has to be re-evaluated, it could cause orders to be canceled and the financial impact will be greater». The crisis of confidence, they conclude looking at the case of the fraud of the Volkswagen emissions, are complex and the way to recover is long and painful. A \ W

Boeing-Company-Logo.jpgThe Boeing Company suspends deliveries of the Boeing 737 MAX. Production of line 737 MAX continues

The Bong Company has reported a pause in the delivery of the Boeing 737 MAX until it has a solution to possible failures in the production line. Series production will continue but the capabilities will be evaluated.

The American aircraft manufacturer Boeing announced this Thursday 14 March 2019 that it suspends the delivery of the 737 MAX, after this model suffered two fatal accidents in five months. Faced with a possible production error in the model, the company will inspect the critical areas of the production line of the most sold-out plane in the world. «We pause in the delivery of the 737 MAX until we have a solution, we will continue with the production but we will evaluate our capabilities», said the Boeing spokesman.

Crisis line 737

The crisis of the 737 MAX evaporates 25,000 million dollars worth of Boeing. The constructor ruled out the possibility of reducing the production rate or temporarily closing the factories. Boeing produces 52 737 MAX annually per month. Before the crisis, he planned to increase its production chain to 57 units in June 2019.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) ordered on Wednesday 13 March 2019 to temporarily land the Boeing 737-8/9 MAX’s in the United States after similar decisions by aviation security authorities around the world. Washington justified this choice by collecting the new satellite data provided by Canada, which shows similarities between the tragedy of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET-302 and Lion Air flight JT-610. «The flight ban will be maintained for further investigation, including the review of the information contained in the two black boxes of the Ethiopian airline plane that crashed on Sunday», the FAA said.

Flight analysis ET-302

The accident in Ethiopia, in which 157 people died, occurred less than five months after the accident of the same plane of the Indonesian company Lion Air in late October, which killed 189 people. The two black boxes of the Ethiopian Airlines flight, which should deliver the scenario or accident scenarios, were received this Thursday in France by the Bureau of Research and Analysis (BEA), a specialized agency that will be responsible for extracting the data. The first black box contains the flight parameters, the second, the conversations and the cabin alarms that were recorded before the accident.

The investigation of the tragedy of Lion Air has revealed for the moment a malfunction in the flight control system called Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS). Boeing has full confidence in the safety of the 737 MAX, but most state and security agencies have announced the decision to ban the flight of the Boeing 737 MAX worldwide.

Despite the great level of uncertainty that, at the moment, the more than 70 airlines that have orders for the Boeing 737 MAX family aircraft are going to have to reach an understanding with the American manufacturer. The peculiarities of the aeronautical sector leave few options to the airlines to change the model.

In the strategic pillars of the next decade of these companies, the 737 MAX occupies a systemic place. The aircraft has been chosen by these airlines to operate the segment that generates the most volume of trips to these companies. This model aims to improve the operational efficiency of flights of less than 3,000 kilometers. A segment that supposes great part of the business of the airlines of half world.

Both Airbus and China have aircraft operating in the same range as Boeing’s 737 MAX. Opting for another model is not an option as simple as canceling an order and making another to the rival manufacturer.

The type of plane for which an airline chooses to cover a type of route marks a large part of the operation of this company. On the one hand, airplane pilots are certified for a series of specific models. Changing a Boeing by an Airbus means substantially modifying the part of the most important workforce of the company.

The type of plane for which an airline chooses to cover a type of route marks a large part of the operation of this company. On the one hand, airplane pilots are certified for a series of specific models. Changing a Boeing by an Airbus means substantially modifying the part of the most important workforce of the company. But not only that, the entire logistics process that involves the maintenance of airplanes requires an airline to maintain a certain fidelity with the company that manufactures its airplanes. In a context in which the business of commercial aviation has such narrow margins, the maintenance of aircraft is a key element in the operative and economic gear of the company.

In these moments, the decisions of the security agencies of different countries keep more than 300 737 MAX aircraft on the ground. This situation is generating huge operational problems for companies that had more models of this type such as Southwest, with 34 aircraft, or Norwegian, with 18 aircraft.

The European company has already announced that it will request compensation from Boeing. And, having a plane on the ground is the worst thing that can happen to an airline. On the one hand, the company has to pay to have the aircraft parked at an airport. On the other hand, the company has to reformulate its entire route strategy. An airplane like the 737 MAX, specialized in short journeys, makes several flights throughout the day, not always going back and forth between the same destinations.

Finally, while the 737 MAX can not fly, and it seems that they can not do it in weeks, the airlines that own these planes have to rent aircraft to leasing companies or reduce part of their routes. In short, this stop represents an increase in costs and a decrease in revenues.

Boeing will also suffer the economic effects of this situation. In addition to the decrease in its value in the stock market, the company will have to make a significant investment in updating the models. When his 787 was forced to make a series of modifications, in this case not due to air accidents, Boeing had to invest 20 million dollars and it took three months to solve the problem.

Reputation of the 737

Everything points to the fact that the crisis of the 737 MAX could be even more difficult to manage. When two fatal accidents come into play, in this case the reputational cost will go up. Markets, customers and users will take time to forget these events.

Short-term costs, such as the software solution for the airplane, will not have a big impact on your accounts. On the other hand, a potential loss of confidence on the part of the airlines could affect their future business.

The longer Boeing and the aviation security authorities take to find a solution, the higher the strategic cost for the US. The solution to the problems of the 787 amounted to US$ 465,000 per aircraft, said Carter Copeland, an analyst at Melius Research. A company of the dimensions of Boeing will be able to deal with these quantities. In addition to commercial aircraft, the manufacturer has military and aerospace divisions that annually generate more than US$ 100,000 million in revenue.

Boeing’s challenge is longer term. Whether the investigations of the accident are extended, or if the causes indicate some malpractice in the company, the American would see a significant part of its future income disappear. Only in the segment that covers the 737 MAX, it is estimated that airlines around the world will need 31,000 aircraft between 2018 and 2037. The resolution of the investigations will mark Boeing’s ability to once again achieve the leadership and supremacy of the skies. in a world that is too competitive. A \ W

Resultado de imagen para Boeing 737 MAXThe World cancels the Boeing 737 MAX

The world’s airlines ground Boeing 737 MAX aircraft

In an unprecedented decision Europe, Asia and the United States practically closed their skies on Tuesday to the Boeing 737-8 MAX by the accident of Sunday of the ET-302 flight of Ethiopian Airlines in Ethiopia, in which its 157 occupants died. Despite calls to the manufacturer’s calm and that the investigation has just begun, a notice from the US Civil Aviation Administration of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) admitting similarities with another accident occurred with the same model in October 2018 in the Republic of Indonesia that caused the cancellation of the flights of the most modern variant of the Boeing 737 model.

Doubts reliability of the 737 MAX

The doubts about the reliability of the airplane, although there is not a finished investigation, were enough for the contagion effect that causes the panic to begin. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and India joined the veto for an indefinite period of any operation of a 737 MAX 8 in its airspace. At that time, 32 airlines that have 200 of those planes in their portfolios had announced that they would be stranded at airports. 60% of the operational fleet on a global scale of the most modern version of the 737 was already out of circulation. This Wednesday, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, New Zealand, Lebanon, Hong Kong and Equatorial Guinea, among others, have also been added to the long list of countries that have closed their skies to the Boeing 737-8 MAX.

AW-70070007.jpgInsecurity expansion

The fear of flying with that plane had spread through social networks and airlines served thousands of frightened customers. «We received questions from customers about whether their flight will be operated by a Boeing 737 MAX 8«, confirmed a head of the US airline Southwest Airlines.

China, Australia, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea or Indonesia were the first to prevent any aircraft of that type from taking off from their airports. Not in vain, several airlines from those countries, some of them flagged, are among the top ten buyers of the 737 MAX 8. Among them, China Southern Airlines, Air China or Hainan Airlines. All decided to immobilize that part of their fleet despite the fact that the manufacturer and the US civil aviation agency FAA tried to calm the citizens by guaranteeing the safety of the aircraft. On Monday, an FAA notice had indicated that external reports pointed to «similarities» between Sunday’s crash of the Ethiopian Airlines flight shortly after taking off from Addis Ababa airport (Ethiopia) and the incident that took place in the Java Sea last October with a Lion Air plane of the same model. The communication from the North American agency warned that the investigation «has just begun» and with the available data it was not «possible to draw conclusions».

AW-700737MAX.png

Competitiveness & safety

The rivalry of the duopoly is fierce and they fight for every request. Airbus is Boeing’s only rival. The 737 MAX model was introduced shortly after the A320NEO was announced. The two aircraft are similar in size, number of seats, as well as in the distance they can travel and even in the price.

Problems and doubts about the viability of the aircraft emerge when the fleet of A320 family aircraft has just surpassed those in service of the 737. The double accident can end up upsetting that balance of power in the skies if the anxiety of the Airlines, its employees and the passengers continues to grow because of fear.

The delicate balance between efficiency and safety tests the reality in Boeing with the highest-grossing model of all time the Boeing 737. The American constructor currently has the most important challenge in the history of the Boeing: return the credibility and confidence of its products in the markets to recover reliability and safety, as the pampered 737 MAX puts the Seattle industry in check. Airbus entrega 1er A320 FANS-C

EasyJet-A320neo.jpgAW | 2019 03 13 19:34 | INDUSTRY / ENGINEERING

Airbus has delivered the first A320 equipped with FANS-C

Airbus has delivered the first Airbus A320 equipped with FANS-C to the low-cost European airline easyJet. Within the framework of the European SESAR program of Air Traffic Management (ATM), the research will participate in the project led by Airbus for the demonstration of improvements in air traffic management generated by information in 4D Initial Trajectory Information Sharing that will demonstrate the data exchange of the planned trajectory of an aircraft with the Air Traffic Control (ATC).

The FANS-C technology will allow airlines to optimize the trajectories of their aircraft and make the flow of traffic more fluid and the speed of the aircraft easier to handle, which will help them save fuel and reduce noise. In particular, the sharing of the predicted trajectories with the ATC controllers will allow the sequencing of the aircraft without problems in the approach and in the «Area Maneuver Terminal».

Hugh McConnellogue, Chief Operating Officer of the easyJet Network said: «We are delighted to be the first airline to receive this new FANS-C technology on our Airbus aircraft and to really test it at the SESAR event. Our principles of practical experience already indicate that it promises to be an important factor in increasing the efficiency, safety and timeliness of our expansion operations – especially in the congested European airspace».

Jean-Brice Dumont, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Airbus Commercial Aircraft said: «We congratulate easyJet on the delivery of the first equipped Airbus FANS-C aircraft, which marks the start of this great demonstration of 4D initial trajectory sharing across Europe. We are proud to lead this SESAR project and play our role in helping ATM respond to the increase in air traffic volume while improving safety, and to cause a positive environmental impact thanks to a more efficient ATM system».

From now until mid-2020 seven European airlines, which are all those involved in digits, will progressively equip up to 100 of their aircraft of the A320 family with FANS-C technology. The «Very Large Demonstration» (VLD) will last more than a year and collect data from more than 20,000 commercial flights, allowing interested parties to demonstrate the benefits of this technology live during day-to-day operations.

Paving the way for the beginning of the digit operational phase and ultimately deploying this technology throughout Europe and the rest of the world, Airbus achieved the world’s first FANS-C ‘4D’ avionics certification on a commercial aircraft in November 2018 the initial aircraft writes being the A320 Family. Moreover, to complement FANS-C technology in the air, air navigation service providers (ANSP) throughout Europe will develop the respective ground ATC tools.

The FANS-C management system is provided with two key components: «Automatic Dependent Surveillance Contract» (ADS-C) and «Communication Data Link Pilot Controller» (CPDLC). ADS-C allows automatic or on-demand transmission for air traffic control of the aircraft’s full predicted four-dimensional trajectory of the aircraft (3D + time), while CPDLC facilitates the digital uplink of ATC orders and authorizations. The benefits of FANS-C include: more accurate flight plans; more optimized trajectory calculation and acceptance processes; better alignment of the airlines and ATM planned trajectories; the improvement of aircraft traffic forecasts and improvement of the network demand/capacity calculations. The seven airlines that participate in the DÍGITOS program include: Air France; British Airways; easyJet; Iberia; Novair Thomas Cook; and Wizz Air.

For FANS-C capability on board an A320 aircraft, the required equipment includes a new data link router (ATSU), flight management system enhancement (FMS) and compatible data carrier «DCDU» cockpit displays. FANS-C will be available for the first time in the A320 Family and later in the rest of the Airbus programs.

The fact of sharing the planned trajectories with the ATC controllers will allow a fluid sequencing of the aircraft in the approach and maneuver area of the terminal. A \ W
