AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing opens its first European factory

Boeing opens first European factory in Sheffield, United Kingdom

The 40 million pound Boeing Sheffield plant near Rotherham, in the south of the United Kingdom, has a total of 52 employees in its 6,200 square meter factory. Boeing has taken the wrist to Airbus by opening a new factory in Europe. This, of course, is another movement of power between the two companies, which last month had a fight between customers in China. The domain of Boeing extends to Europe in the territory of the European constructor Airbus SE, who has exercised a considerable dominion when settling in Mobile, State of Alabama, United States, under the name of Airbus US.

The new Boeing factory in Sheffield will manufacture thousands of components for Boeing on lines 737 and 767, which will be shipped back to the United States for final assembly. Because United Kingdom is about to leave the European Union in March 2018, this will mean that the United States can negotiate much better trade agreements with the United Kingdom. They will not be hampered by restrictions or tariffs imposed by EU states and, therefore, Boeing will be able to obtain additional savings by employing local talent. This would be without the costs that an EU company, such as Airbus, would have provided. The American manufacturer in this way is positioning itself with the geographical proximity of many Airbus customers.

The United Kingdom has a lot of aerospace talent that will now have two possible big employers, Boeing and Airbus. Airbus has manufacturing facilities in France and produces products throughout the EU, but thanks to this movement of Boeing, now it will have to protect its own talent so that it does not suffer an exodus of personnel. They have approximately 10,000 workers only in the United Kingdom.

Boeing has also partnered with the local University of Sheffield, particularly its Advanced Manufacturing Research Center (AMRC) to guide young graduates in the world of advanced aerospace engineering. This is to take advantage of the grants offered by the UK government for innovation. This could very well be a precursor to Boeing moving some real aircraft assembly to the United Kingdom so that it would really shoot at Airbus. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Boeing-Embraer in final stage

Boeing and Embraer are in the final stages of negotiations to create a new giant of aviation

The President of Embraer, Paulo Cesar de Souza, assured today that the negotiations with the American Boeing for the creation of a Joint Venture «are in the final phase and the negotiations have everything to make it work. We have no deadline to close negotiations, but we are at the end of the talks and I think the project has everything to make it work well, we are walking, it is a very complex operation and we are in the final stages», said the president of the Brazilian aeronautics at a ceremony in Sao Paulo to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first flight of the Bandeirante model, the plane that gave birth to Embraer.

The final agreement needs the approval of the Brazilian government, which has the final say in any Embraer operation, a Golden Share, which entitles it to veto the business. According to Silva, the elections that will be held this weekend and the new president that the country will have as of January 1, 2018 will not alter the negotiations, which may end before the end of this year.

The Minister of Defense, Joaquim Silva e Luna, said that «the government sees it as an approximation, the tendency is for everything to happen as it is imagining.» Commercial aircraft production in Brazil will increase with the agreement, it will be a business in There are only profits, the government was not officially consulted, it did not manifest itself, but it also did not present restrictions on anything», he said.

Embraer, the world’s third-largest aircraft manufacturer and leader in the regional aviation segment, and Boeing, the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer, have been negotiating the creation of a Joint Venture for almost a year, in a business valued at around US $ 3,800 million dollars in which the American manufacturer would have 80% of the capital of the company and the Brazilian, the remaining 20%. Rolls-Royce carencia motor al A330NEO

AW | 2018 10 27 11:37 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Rolls-Royce shortages engines to the A330NEO

Rolls-Royce has entered into a disruption in engine delivery times for the Airbus A330-800NEO line. The turbine manufacturer acknowledged that it does not arrive on time with the deliveries agreed with the European consortium due to various technical and operational problems.

THE assembly line of the Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines for October 2018, is only 10 engines that will have been delivered to Airbus. The compromised number agreed with the European Airbus consortium had been 30 turbines, which will affect the A330-800NEO production line chain, which states that only fifteen A330NEO’s units could be completed.Resultado de imagen para rolls royce trent 7000Rolls-Royce stumbles not only annoy Airbus production. On the other side of the Atlantic, Boeing has also had problems with the engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce. Boeing suffers from headaches for the problems of the RR Trent 1000, which forced several airlines to leave their Boeing 787 on the ground while undergoing technical checks.

The complications caused by Rolls-Royce led some airlines to be forced to rent other aircraft to meet their schedules in full summer season, as did Norwegian with the Hi Fly A380.

Voices of Rolls-Royce

The problems with those engines became a «source of anxiety for our customers, and we should not exacerbate it because of the lack of delivery of the Trent 7000,» said a Rolls-Royce statement to its employees. «We have caused a big problem for Airbus, and we are working with them to solve the situation with their customers,» said the text signed by the president of the civil aerospace division Chris Cholerton and the Director of large engines, Chris Young.

Pratt & Whitney, the other nightmare of Airbus

Airbus was hopeful that by the end of the year the A330NEO could see the light, a model that has been delayed for a year. The problems with the motors move away the dream to arrive at the 800 planes manufactured in the year in the plant of Toulouse in France. Pratt & Whitney is also failing in the delivery schedule and will lead Airbus to produce between 30 and 40 A320NEO aircraft less than expected.

Threats of sanctions

Rolls-Royce has around the corner the threat of economic problems for breaching the deadlines: in addition to the penalties that Airbus could present, in case any airline needs to rent planes, it will have to take over the bill. For example, the Icelandic low cost Wow air, which had two A330NEO in November 2018, will have to settle for receiving them in February 2018. Due to this situation, the airline informed that it will have to cancel several routes in April 2018.

Rolls-Royce had reserved almost US$ 1,500 million to solve the problems of the Trent 1000 until 2022, either to end the checks as to compensate the airlines that have to leave the Boeing 787 in the hangar to repair the engines. A \ W

Persiguiendo al Boeing 797

AW-70007997.jpg

AW | 2018 10 25 23:48 | INDUSTRY

Boeing 797, start-up 2019

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Chasing the Boeing 797

Boeing-Company-LogoThe Boeing 797 will be the new medium commercial aircraft that will revolutionize world air transport

The Boeing Company has not yet made the decision to launch the Boeing 797 NMA, but the interest of airlines is growing. After the downgrade of the Boeing 757 Program, the industry still expects the giant from Seattle to commit to production next year 2019.

Although it has not yet been officially named, it is almost certain that the next Boeing aircraft will be called «797». The new aircraft will be loaded with Boeing’s innovative technology, which will make it one of the most efficient ever manufactured, as many airlines are waiting for a real replacement for the Boeing 757, even though Airbus has approached with its new product A321NEO XLR.

Details of the Boeing 797

Boeing has not yet officially launched the project, nor has it provided structural details of the New Mid-Market Airplane. Boeing has approached the confirmation of the scope and capacity they are seeking to offer with the new medium-sized aircraft, but still needs to be polished or refined in accordance with the technical characteristics of the Boeing 797.

The provisional data regarding the range and number of seats that Boeing is trying to achieve with this new aircraft was revealed during a presentation given at the Farnborough Airshow 2018. Boeing is looking to introduce two variants of the new Boeing 797 aircraft. The first will be the B797-6X, designed to transport 228 passengers at a distance of 4500 nmi. Subsequently, the American manufacturer will continue with the B797-7X, a larger aircraft that would carry 267 passengers, but with an autonomy that would reach 4,100 nm. The scope features establish that the 797 widebodies could comfortably operate transatlantic flights.

Boeing is studying the cross-section of the seat layout of the new 797 that would have a distribution with two aisles, with a seating design of 2-3-2 in economy class, which would be oriented to a Premium Economy class, due to a global market trend that favors this distribution. With this design Boeing would distribute around 85% of the seats both in the window or in the aisle. According to industry analysts said the design appeared to be firm, with a 2-3-2 seating arrangement.

Resultado de imagen para Boeing 797 airgways.com

The Boeing 797 will be much cleaner and greener to operate than current aircraft. In fact, the 797 will supposedly be 40% cheaper to operate than its rival Airbus, the Airbus A330NEO. Boeing estimates that in more than 20 years, up to 5,000 Boeing 797s could be sold on the world market. It could generate up to 30,000 new routes. At this time, many of the long-haul flights are served by larger aircraft between centers that are powered by regional flights. With the smallest aircraft and the widest range, such an aircraft could open more transatlantic, transpacific, point-to-point routes. This means that to fly from Manchester to Saint Louis, which means that a passenger could fly directly instead of changing one or two times of plane.

Boeing would have to build a much more comfortable aircraft for the passenger at a price that is competitive with the unique aisle designs currently offered. The 797 would have double the space in the upper compartment and two aisles, and most passengers would have a seat in the aisle or in the window.

The boarding of single-aisle aircraft is becoming a nightmare, particularly in the United States, where the tendency is for passengers to bring all their luggage on board.

This is a major problem, since the upper compartments are not large enough and the drama surrounding the fact of carrying the luggage to the top delays the boarding process. Verbal fights often explode over luggage space.

Interest for 797

The interest of the airlines in the Boeing 797 NMA, medium-sized plane is growing clearly. Delta Air Lines is the number one customer, it wants to be the launch airline. Qantas Airways is one of the airlines that is very interested in the 797 Program, considering the plane that fits its market away from the big distribution centers, United Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Emirates Airline, without discounting the low cost airlines. low fare that without doubt will capture in the Boeing 797 an ideal piece for emerging markets point to point.

Boeing 797, start-up 2019

Boeing has announced that it will make a launch decision in 2019 and that the entry into services could arrive in 2025, with which the American manufacturer is evaluating and consulting different airlines the requirements, as well as exploring in the industry of inputs and technology to reach the optimum level so that the new mid-range market aircraft can see the light.

Boeing is currently focusing on the development of new derivatives of the 777X Program, the new Boeing 797 will probably be in the background, waiting for the necessary maturity until the project is completed pursuing new technologies that justify a new new aircraft. As has happened with the Boeing 737 line, Boeing would not launch a new variant until it completes a program that justifies the change in improved technology. With more justification with a totally new program like the Boeing 797, where engineering and development costs are put to the test, something they learned a lot from the 787 Dreamliners Program. The official decision on the progress of Project 797 will be taken during the next year 2019. A \ W

mitac_logotype.pngMitsubbishi Heavy Industries inyectará capital a Mitsubishi Aerospace

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Mitsubishi capital injection

Mitsubbishi Heavy Industries will inject capital into Mitsubishi Aerospace

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced this week that it would inject ¥ 220 billion yen into the arm of the plane to ensure that the company stays afloat during its extensive flight test program. The news about Bombardier’s demand has affected Mitsubishi Aerospace, the parent company is still fully committed to the MRJ-90 aircraft passing the flight tests.

Resultado de imagen para flythemrj.com

The MRJ-90 had suffered numerous delays since its launch of the initial concept in 2007 and the completion date originally scheduled for 2013 had already been lost. The aircraft has gone through multiple delays since its initial launch, such as widening and changing a carbon fiber to aluminum and having to wait for Pratt & Whitney to finish certifying the PW1200G motors for the MRJ-90.

The MRJ-90 was finally ready for the flight tests in 2015 and took a flight in Nagoya, Japan, before making the transition to Moses Lake, Washington to complete the certification. However, more errors have reached the Mitsubishi Regional Jet in the following years and the earliest delivery date of the aircraft is now projected for 2020.

Once the certification of the Mitsubishi Regional Jet arrives it will be the first Japanese commercial aircraft since the 1960s, when it built the NAMC YS-11 turboprop. The MRJ Program currently has 288 firm orders and 184 combined options for the 70-seat MRJ-70 and the 90-seat MRJ90. Mitsubishi is also leaving the door open for a 100-110 seat aircraft, but that will depend on the demand and sales success of the two prototypes entering service by the beginning of 2020. A \ W

AirAsia y Etihad Airways.  AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Artificial intelligence combat air chaos

The commercial aviation industry seeks to minimize flight delays

airbus-logo-3d-1024x905

The delays in the flights of the airlines in the world not only mean waits in boarding rooms, but more than that, they mean financial loss for the airlines and economic for the passengers.

Reorganizing the shipment caused by a delay along with reprogramming had an average cost of US$ 68.48 per minute in the United States in 2017, according to America for America, an association of leading companies in the US. In the United States alone, delayed flights represent US$ 26 billion of extra expenses for airlines, plus indirect expenses.

The European aviation consortium Airbus has found in artificial intelligence the solution to the problem of delays. «About 80% of airlines are chronically delayed, because they do not have access to the data that helps them manage the takeoff and landing of their aircraft», said Airbus Artificial Intelligence Vice President Adam Bonnifield.

The airline JetBlue Airways was used since 2016 as a laboratory for a new solution: a scheduled maintenance optimizer, which uses algorithms based on aircraft movement to determine the best possible dates and times for the maintenance of the equipment of more than 200 aircraft the company.

In addition, the European manufacturer launched last year Skywise, a platform of large volumes of data and data analysis tools driven by the information of the entire air market, a centralized control panel used by companies to improve their operational efficiency . It is a partnership with Palantir Technologies, based in Silicon Valley, which is already in use in seven clients around the world. «We used sensor data from our aircraft and other operational information that was only used for our maintenance aircraft, and we put everything in the same environment», Bonnifield said. Other airlines use part of Skywise’s resources, such as Latam Airlines. AirAsia and Etihad Airways. A \ W

Retrasos entregas en Airbus Hamburgo

File:Airbus FlightlineHangar in Hamburg-Finkenwerder.jpg

AW | 2018 10 24 12:42 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Rejected deliveries at Airbus Hamburg

airbus-logo-3d-1024x905The Airbus Hamburg factory faces delays in deliveries of aircraft

The problems at the German Airbus Hamburg plant mean new delays for Airbus. The European consortium is working to maintain the 2018 target of a total of 800 deliveries of aircraft needed to meet the financial objectives

For two years Airbus faced a shortage of engines and had to reduce the speed of deliveries. Now the engines are coming fast, but the new inconveniences mean that a Hamburg plant that assembles the best selling reactors has trouble absorbing them, industry sources said.

Internal shortcomings have aggravated delivery delays that leave Airbus with the challenge of delivering 76 single-aisle aircraft a month in the last quarter, according to Flight Ascend consultants, 9.6% more than its previous record. Airbus is working full-time to maintain the 2018 target of a total of 800 deliveries of aircraft needed to meet the financial objectives and the assembly lines of a single aisle are its most important source of revenue.

Cluttered customers

«They’re late, they’re all mad at them, they’ve been hiding behind the engine problems», said an aircraft buyer, referring to the trend of supply chains to focus on the most visible stragglers without having to face the problems Standby. Other sources in the industry say that Hamburg may not be the immediate source of the problem, but that this installation has felt the worst impact on the global puzzle of the Airbus assembly plants because it is introducing a new version of A321 as well as the production It is running faster than ever.

This illustrates a broader challenge as aircraft manufacturers strive to introduce new models and solve technical problems without stopping record production increases, a task that some compare to taking the steepest slope in a sprint while cycling fix a tire.

Deliveries of the A321, a large single-aisle aircraft manufactured mainly in Germany, increased in May as delayed engines began to enter but slowed again in September, according to Airbus data. Now, Airbus presents a new version of ACF A321NEO, which offers more flexible cabins but requires a complex configuration.

The assembly plant in Hamburg faced some problems with the wiring of the reactors, which awoke memories of the wiring problems that affected the A380 superjumbo a decade ago. The acceleration has also increased quality problems, leading to more delays and a queue of undelivered aircraft, reported in September 2018. Despite the interruption, Airbus has said it is confident it will meet the production targets of a Single aisle of 60 per month spread across all of its factories by mid-2019, an increase of approximately 55 currently. Sources say that Airbus is also preparing to have capacity for 65 single-aisle aircraft available per month by the end of 2019, although there has been no decision on whether to implement this.

Ultimately, Airbus aims to increase production by 70-73 to meet a record travel demand and the company says that aircraft offering premium seats such as the A321NEO ACF will help boost this. However, the delays in Hamburg are a headache for the new sales manager, Christian Scherer, as the airlines await deliveries.

For many airlines, the financial pain is acute as oil prices have recovered to US$ 80: exactly the market for which the A321NEO and similar models of fuel economy were designed. «Airlines can deal with aircraft that are out of specifications, but not late, they have built a network plan, which takes into account the new aircraft in the fleet», said Ascend principal adviser Rob Morris. Boeing has also had some delays.

Hamburg’s problems highlight the operational problems at stake, as aircraft chief Guillaume Faury prepares to become CEO in April 2018. His two main industrial lieutenants, Tom Williams and Didier Evrard, are retiring at the end of 2018. Experts say that Faury, which has made production the «priority of priorities» for this quarter, will not be replaced as president of commercial aircraft, but you can name an operations leader.
