Aircraft Transport and Travel celebra 100º Aniversarios junto a su sucesora British Airways
British Overseas Air Corporation (BOAC)
International Airlines Group (IAG)
100th Anniversaries British Airways legacy
Aircraft Transport and Travel celebrates 100th Anniversaries with its successor British Airways
On August 25, 1919, the company Aircraft Transport and Travel (AT&T) was founded. That August 25, marks an essential date in the legacy of British Airways when AT&T launches the world’s first daily international flight joining the London-Paris route using the single-engine De Havilland DH4A air route.
The legacy of AT&T moves to our time as a faithful successor to the current British Airways that was inaugurated on March 31, 1974. It is the flag carrier of the United Kingdom, based in Waterside, Harmondsworth, near its main center at Heathrow Airport From London.

The legacy of AT&T
AT&T was a British airline formed during World War I, a subsidiary of The Aircraft Manufacturing Company Limited (Airco), a British aircraft manufacturer that operated between 1912 and 1920.
DE HAVILLAND DH.16, AIRCRAFT TRANSPORT & TRAVEL, PROBABLY CROYDON 1920
In 1921, Daimler International bought the assets of AT&T. The airline was based at Croydon Airfield south of London, operating six Havilland DH.34 aircraft. They flew to a variety of destinations, including Cologne and Amsterdam, in addition to the original Paris route.
In 1924, Daimler International merged with three other airlines to form Imperial Airways, following an incentive from the British Government. While Imperial Airways was scheduled to begin services on April 1, 1924, the first flight did not occur until April 26, a flight that linked London with Paris/Le Bourget. Imperial Airways established long-distance routes around the world to Cape Town in Africa and Brisbane in Australia. These routes were used as part of the development of the Empire Air Mail, which saw the mail delivered anywhere in the British Empire for a flat rate per unit weight. In fact, in the first year of operation, one hundred tons of mail were delivered to India and Africa.
British Overseas Air Corporation (BOAC)
On April 1, 1940, after 16 years after the merger of Imperial Airways, the company merged again with an airline called British Airways to form British Overseas Air Corporation, retaining the «Speedbird» isologotype first used by Imperial Airways, The airline was the first to use jet planes with the introduction of De Havilland Comet to the fleet in May 1952. Six years later, the airline operated the first non-stop transatlantic jet flight using Comet 4. The flight was scheduled to then to the last six hours and seven minutes.
The proposals to establish a joint British airline, combining the assets of British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) and British European Airways (BEA) were first raised in 1953 as a result of difficulties in the attempts of BOAC and BEA to negotiate air rights Through the British. A milestone of the BOAC has been that it went on to redefine the transatlantic air travel once again by operating the Boeing 747-100 from 1971 onwards.
Merger with British European Airways (BEA)
In 1972, British Overseas Air Corporation was part of a merger with British European Airways (BEA). This formalized the creation of British Airways on March 31, 1974. Four years after the merger, British Airways would once again transform long-distance travel with the arrival of Concorde. British Airways operated the world’s first supersonic passenger flight on the London-Bahrain air route.
In February 1999, British Airways decided to partner with other airlines to become a founding member of the Oneworld alliance along with American Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qantas. The move gave the airline even more global coverage with the association that opened the door to code-share agreements and more.

International Airlines Group (IAG)
While retaining the British Airways brand, BA merged with Iberia. The merger, which was completed in January 2011, was formalized with the creation of International Airlines Group (IAG). The IAG Group onwards incorporated the acquisition of other airlines such as Vueling and Aer Lingus and has established its own long-distance and low-cost airline called Level Airlines. Currently, British Airways and Iberia are also part of an agreement with American Airlines to coordinate transatlantic routes.
Throughout history, British Airways is recognized as the current successor of AT&T that from then until August 25, 2019, assumes the historical legacy of its 100 anniversaries, although for British Airways itself it retains its first 45 years of existence.
The preparation for the 100th anniversary of British Airways contracted a retro livery planning to remind today’s users of the glamorous story that enveloped what we now call British Airways, a living legacy. A \ W
