SKY AIRLINE INICIARÁ VUELOS A SIETE DESTINOS NACIONALES A PARTIR ...

AW | 2020 08 17 13:05 | AIRLINES

Sky Peru increases its frequencies

Sky Airline of Peru has increased its flights

Sky Airline Peru has transported 21,300 passengers in the first month of reactivation of air transport in the Republic of Chile. The figure represents 83% less compared to what was registered in the same period of 2019, when the airline transferred 130,500 passengers.

Peruvian airlines restarted operations on July 15, 2020 under the security protocols established by the Government, to avoid further infections by COVID-19. The airline SKY has reported that from July 15 to August 14, 2020, 21,300 passengers were transported on domestic flights, which represents 83% fewer travelers than those registered in the same inter-annual period in 2019, when the airline transferred 130,500 passengers. Of this total, 11,600 passengers flew from Lima to the interior provinces and 9,700 flew from the interior to the capital of the Republic of Peru.

Also, due to the impact of the limitation in the number of air operations per hour, flights had to be reduced. For Sky Airline Peru, this has meant making only 168 flights, just over 20% of those operated in the same year-on-year period. Due to the situation, the airline was forced to modify its itineraries, operating in the month of August to 5 of its 12 national destinations: Iquitos, Lima, Pucallpa, Piura and Tumbes. Due to government restrictions, commercial flights cannot be made to cities such as Arequipa, Cusco, Juliaca, Puerto Maldonado and Tarapoto.

“In this context, the profile of the passenger corresponds to who really needs to move, be it to return to their regions, visit relatives or for a business opportunity. Air transport is playing a very important role, offering the safest way to travel at very affordable prices to accompany the reactivation of the country”, says Franco Chaparro, Commercial Manager of Sky Airline in Peru.

Air Algérie aproxima reinicio Ops

AW | 2020 08 17 12:48 | AIRLINES

The airline estimates reopening in ten days

The President and General Director of the Algerian state airline, Air Algérie, has communicated this Saturday 15 August 2020 about the resumption of flights depending solely on the evolution of the health situation in the country and the decisions of the Algerian authorities. The director of Air Algérie has estimated that in ten days there will be the first flights abroad, bearing in mind the decreasing number of infections in Algeria. The resumption of Air Algérie flights will depend on public authorities, recalled this Saturday, its CEO, Bakhouche Alleche. The official said the airline is prepared to resume its flights if the country’s authorities lift the restrictions. «Once the authorities declare the lack of definition, we will put into practice what we have decided», he said. Thus, the Algerian airline has drawn up a resumption plan that will be launched as soon as they decide to open the borders. The official believes that Air Algérie wants to reconnect with air links, but the decision is conditioned by the evolution of the health crisis linked to the Coronavirus. «We would like to, but there are public health imperatives», he said. It is these same imperatives that have imposed a closure, which has lasted since last March, on this airline, as with other airlines in the world.

Opening of the border

Air Algeria has suspended its air links by decision of the country’s authorities. One of the measures among others that have been taken to stop the spread of the Coronavirus in the Republic of Algeria. In recent days, a gradual deconfinement has begun in the country. Several restrictive measures have been lifted. In addition to the relaxation of confinement measures: the opening of mosques, beaches and other recreational sites have been authorized to reopen their doors to the public from Saturday 15 August 2020.

Acuerdo espacio aéreo Israel-EAU

AW | 2020 08 17 12:18 | AIRLINES ROUTES / GOVERNMENT

Israel implementa vuelos directos a Emiratos Árabes Unidos

Israel-UAE airspace agreement

Israel implements direct flights to United Arab Emirates

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has announced that he is working to make possible direct flights to the United Arab Emirates through the airspace of Saudi Arabia, just four days after the announcement of the agreement for the normalization of diplomatic relations.

«We are working to have direct flights, via Saudi Arabia, between Tel Aviv and Dubai and Abu Dhabi. It will be a short flight, of three hours, like a flight to Rome. The emirates are very interested in making significant investments in Israel», said the president from Ben Gurion International Airport.

Netanyahu’s visit to the airport took place within the framework of the restart of flights to several countries, including Greece, after agreements not to be forced to carry out a two-week quarantine upon return. He was accompanied by the Minister of Transport, Miri Regev, who has acknowledged that the Israeli airline Israir has already submitted a formal request to be able to make direct trips to Dubai. These steps are taking place within the framework of rapid steps towards the normalization of ties between the two countries, which were accelerated on 08/16 with the first agreements between companies, the establishment of direct telephone calls and the promise of a visit by an Israeli delegation. in the coming days.

Diplomatic advances

Israel and the United Arab Emirates agreed on Thursday 08/13 to normalize relations in an important diplomatic advance negotiated by President Donald Trump. As part of the agreement, Israel will suspend the declaration of sovereignty over the areas outlined in the Trump Administration’s Middle East peace plan, the statement said, adding that the country would focus on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.

The President of Israel has emphasized the advancement of relations between the two countries and the importance of the pact with the Gulf country to attract tourism and investment. Currently, Israeli airlines were not allowed to fly over Saudi Arabian airspace, one of the countries that is speculated could follow in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates and normalize relations with Israel, breaking years of consensus in the Arab world against normalization. no peace agreement with the Palestinians.

Aeroméxico recibiría capitalización

AW | 2020 08 17 11:12 | AIRLINES

Aeroméxico would receive capitalization

Apollo Asset Management would intectar capital in Aeroméxico

The Mexican airline Aeroméxico could receive a new investor for the restructuring process under the Bankruptcy Law received in Chapter 11 of the United States. The US fund Apollo Global Management, Inc. would inject capital to restructure the main airline in Mexico. The law of the Republic of Mexico requires that the majority shareholding remains in Mexican hands, but in a responsible decision that gives the airline viability, Aeromexico could change hands in exchange for receiving pure oxygen that translates into a loan of US$ 1,000 million dollars. The only way Apollo Management could enter Aeromexico would be with neutral investment.

The group of Mexican investors, led by Eduardo Tricio, Valentín Díez Morodo and Antonio Cosío Pando, could lose their shareholding position within the country’s main airline. Delta Air Lines itself could also see its shareholding diluted corresponding to the 49% it currently owns in the Mexican airline.

DIP Financing

The contribution of the US$ 1,000 million that Aeroméxico would receive would give it viability within its restructuring in the United States Bankruptcy Law in exchange for the entry of Apollo Management into the shareholding structure. But Apollo Asset Management’s foray as the future largest shareholder of Aeroméxico represents a problem because foreign capital cannot be more than 49% of capital in a Mexican airline. In this way, the classic case of neutral foreign investment called DIP.

The fund manager, Apollo Management, enters Aeroméxico through a guaranteed financing called DIP Financing (Debtor-In-Possesion). DIP Financing is a financial mechanism that occurs in Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Law in the United States, where a financier participates with all the risk of the financial and operational restructuring of the company. In return, you have guarantees to exchange your loan for shares. The airline has two tranches of this type of financing for Aeromexico, one worth US$ 200 million and another US$ 800 million when the airline is emerging from bankruptcy, to sustain its viability.

Apollo could not have decisions on Aeroméxico, but would depend on the control of Mexican shareholders, but that is evidenced in the papers. The reality is that Aeroméxico and its Director Andrés Conesa, its President Javier Arrigunaga, are making a difficult but responsible decision. The main shareholders Eduardo Tricio, Valentín Díez Morodo, Antonio Cosío, and Delta Air Lines, would be agreeing to be diluted, in exchange, Aeroméxico receives a capital injection worth US$ 1,000 million within the restructuring to get out of the Law of Bankruptcies Mexico’s flagship airline could be left largely with a neutral investment, in the hands of foreign shareholders, to survive the global pandemic.

Avianca restructures debt

Avianca restructuring for US$ 2 billion Dollars

The Colombian airline Avianca seeks to restructure the company’s liabilities in order to get out of Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Law. Avianca Holdings has announced three agreements worth two billion dollars in new funds under the structure of guaranteed preferential financing commitments (DIP), which is part of its reorganization process under Chapter 11. The transaction would consist of a main tranche (Tranche A) and another subordinate (Tranche B), where both are guaranteed by a right on the collateral available. The costing, in addition to raising funds, would also finance existing debts. The total DIP financing will be US$ 2 billion, which consists of a Tranche A of US$ 1,300 million and a Tranche B of US$ 700 million. For the restructuring process Avianca has hired Goldman Sch Lending Partners and JP Morgan, who will represent as lead coordinators and joint bookrunners.

The company reached an agreement with Al Loyalty to acquire an additional 20% stake in the LifeMiles loyalty program; once the acquisition is completed, the South American carrier would have a 90% stake in said program. Similarly, the line reached an agreement with a group of creditors with bonds maturing in 2023, whose treatment will provide support and restructuring between Avianca and the holders of most of the bonds.

During the first six months, Avianca registered a net loss of US$ 352 million, as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, in addition to the accumulated losses from previous years.

Agencias contra Norwegian Air

AW | 2020 08 17 09:47 | AIRLINES

Agencies against Norwegian Air

Agencies accuse Norwegian Air of lack of ethics

Tourism agencies in Europe have raised criticism that the airline continues to load ADM, which is an Agency Debit Note, is a notice sent, usually by an airline to a travel agent, that requires the recipient to pay a sum money to sender. Norwegian Air continues to charge ADM for not using blocked tickets when it owes them thousands of Euros from canceled flights due to the current pandemic.

The Coronavirus crisis has already aggravated the tense relationship between travel agencies and airlines. The refusal to reimburse by many airlines, which are benefiting from the permissiveness of the authorities, is putting in serious difficulties the agencies, obliged by law to return the money but without resources to do so if the provider does not respond. A clear example of this deterioration in relations between the two sectors is the unease caused by the strategy adopted by Norwegian Air. Agency executives have contacted Preferente to report that the airline is charging them ADM through the IATA BSP for churning (when the agency blocks a ticket and finally does not issue it).

Although they recognize that the application of these penalties are legal, they understand that it is a behavior that lacks all ethics when they have been waiting for months for the airline to return the money for the flights canceled due to the effects of the pandemic. The agencies denounce the inaction of IATA. At the moment, always according to its version, the powerful air lobby ignores the way Norwegian Air acts, limiting itself to saying that the aforementioned charges comply with the regulations.

Transavia adquiere vuelos internos

AW | 2020 08 17 09:33 | AIRLINES

Transavia acquires internal flights

Unions accept unthinkable internal change at Air France

The head of Air France-KLM, Benjamin Smith, has succeeded in getting the group’s pilots to accept that the operator of French domestic flights becomes Transavia France and not Hop! This is a historic achievement where they express that Air France can now be viable.

The French company prevented it from operating favorably by assuming losses year after year. The SNPL Union has called for a referendum and 90 percent of the affiliates voted in favor of Transavia France covering these routes. Ben Smith must not believe it. The oversized and very expensive structure of the old Air Inter, later Air France and more recently partially converted into Hop!, is changed to Transavia, a competitive, agile, simple Dutch low cost that has been waiting for a long time to expand in France. Many domestic routes are deficit, so flights are being restructured and transferred to Transavia France to return them to the area of previous benefits.

Rearranging market

During this crisis, this news will not have much importance because the group’s problems are centered in the long haul, where the losses are tremendous, as in all long-distance groups. But, once it returns to normal, the house can begin to be in order. In addition, Air France had a second problem and that is that the Government gave it aid in exchange for abandoning the routes in which it has competition from the high-speed train, which forces it to reorganize its network.

In France, Easyjet for years, and Ryanair for two, have been installed in the regional networks, with a very aggressive policy, before which Air France had nothing to do with their costs. Another thing is Transavia.

Air France’s internal flights lost some € 200 million Euros in 2019, precisely due to their inefficiency and the toughness of the competition. With this agreement, routes can be closed, others are transferred to Transavia and the Orly slots become that of this subsidiary company. At the same time, the unions are negotiating the dismissal of almost 8,000 workers at Air France and several thousand more at KLM.
