17th anniversary attacks 11-S

17th anniversary of one of the greatest air tragedies that enlightened the world

September 11, 2001 marked a change in the history of humanity as the dates that changed the course of the modern world. Commercial aviation has registered one of the greatest aerial trajedias carried out by terrorist attacks, experiencing humanity a fateful event with devastating consequences.

On September 11, 2001, some nineteen members of the extremist jihadist al Qaeda network carried out a series of suicide attacks against the United States, causing the death of 3,016 people, more than 6,000 wounded and with open wounds for life.

The epicenter of the terrible attack, which generated the attention and commotion of the whole world, was in the complex of buildings of the World Trade Center in New York City, where the Twin Towers fell, as well as the attacks suffered by the hijacking of commercial airplanes. starry

The attacks were committed by nineteen members of Al Qaeda, divided into four groups of kidnappers, each with a terrorist pilot who would be responsible for piloting the plane once the crew of the cabin was reduced. American Airlines flight AA-011 and UA-175 flight of United Airlines were the first to be hijacked, and both were crashed against the twin towers of the World Trade Center, the first against the North Tower and the second shortly after against the South, causing both skyscrapers to collapse in the next two hours.

The third hijacked plane belonged to American Airlines flight AA-077 and was used to be hit against one of the facades (specifically the west facade) of the Pentagon in Virginia. The fourth plane, belonging to flight 93 of United Airlines, did not reach any goal having crashed in the open field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after losing control in the cabin as a result of the confrontation of passengers and crew against the terrorist command. It aimed at the United States Capitol, located in the city of Washington D.C.

Commemoration 11-S

As every year, the NYPD, the FDNY and other New York agencies will honor with a solemn ceremony the almost 3,000 victims of the attacks and the more than 6,000 wounded who managed to survive the dramatic attacks.

The first minute of silence was 08:45 a.m., which coincides with the tragic moment when the first of the planes, American Airlines flight AA-011, hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. At 09:30 a.m. The second minute of silence was held, which coincides with the exact moment when the second plane crashed into the South Tower. At 09:37 a.m. The third minute of silence was scheduled, marking the moment when American Airlines flight AA-077 hit the Pentagon, a tragedy in which 64 passengers died. The fourth minute of silence will be held at 09:59 a.m., which would be the time when the South Tower collapsed. The fifth moment of silence was scheduled for 10:03 a.m., which was when UA-093 flight of United Airlines rushed into Shanksville, Pennsylvania, causing the death of the 44 passengers on board. The sixth and last minute of silence was scheduled for 10:28 a.m., marking the collapse of the North Tower.

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Norwegian HUB Córdoba starts ops 2Q2019

norwegian.pngNorwegian Air Argentina will start HUB Córdoba in mid-2019

The new low-cost airline Norwegian Air Argentina will start operations at the second distribution center in Argentina with the HUB Córdoba in mid-2019. The reasons for the delays with respect to the original plan were not reported, but the start of commercial operations is revealed from October 2018 from Buenos Aires to oil your start-up.

The airline of Norwegian capital had in the focus the beginning of operations in Argentina, Brazil and Singapure, declining its start-up in the first two countries. In Argentina the procedure is advanced at the beginning of operations in October 2018 due to the explosion of growth and change with the emergence of the low cost model, the Argentinean commercial market moves towards a scenario that Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA has been monitoring. Norwegian Air is the third largest airline in Europe with a workforce of 9,500 people and operations on 500 air routes.

Norwegian Air Argentina plan

AW-norwegian-air.png

Last week, Norwegian Air Argentina began selling its first six domestic routes of a package of 72 that it has authorized, plus another 80 international ones, starting commercial operations with the frequency Buenos Aires-Córdoba. The novelty is the first step of a plan that aims, at the end of the first year, to operate 246 weekly flights with 10 to 15 Boeing 737-800 aircraft and to transport 2.2 million passengers. By mid-term, the company will have activated its second operational enclave in Argentina: a domestic and regional hub in Córdoba, at the Ambrosio Taravella airport.

«Our plan is for the long term. We want to set up a firm company, with very low rates and an excellent product, and hire many Argentines to grow with them», stressed Norwegian Air Argentina CEO Ole Christian Melhus in Nordic-accented English.

The plan to invest US$ 200 million dollars and generate 100 jobs. Our hub there will be domestic and regional flights (Latin America). We can not give the exact starting schedule today, because we will be launching them as our global operation is strengthened.

With respect to the delays of the executing plan of the airline Norwegian Air Argentina, the devaluation of the Argentine peso allows to show good and bad aspects in the low cost model. The positive thing is that Argentina became cheaper and that will bring more tourists. The negative is the equality of a hard market for all companies due to the increase in costs in dollars and income in pesos. A \ W

Huracán Florence Categoría 4

AW | 2018 09 10 20:36 | AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Hurricane Florence Category 4

Hurricane Florence gains strength as a category 4 storm, targeting the east coast of the United States

Hurricane Florence is growing in size and strength as it moves toward the southeastern US The National Hurricane Center anticipates further strengthening of the storm and says it is expected to land as an extremely dangerous hurricane. There was no coastal surveillance or warning in effect until Monday afternoon afternoon, the hurricane center announced that waves of storms and hurricanes could be sent to parts of the southeastern and mid-Atlantic states on Tuesday morning.

The waves generated by the hurricane are already affecting parts of the east coast and the Bermuda Islands. The center said that powerful waves are likely to cause dangerous waves and break current conditions. In addition, it is predicted that Florence, more than 1,700 miles from Cape Fear, North Carolina, will bring life-threatening impacts to North Carolina and neighboring states later this week.

The storm strengthened rapidly on Monday and by midday it was reclassified as a category 4 hurricane, reaching that state a day earlier than experts had predicted. The hurricane center cited data from a NOAA Hurricane Hunter airplane that showed Florence was intensifying rapidly, with maximum sustained winds near 140 mph.

In a previous update, authorities said the Florence winds could reach 150 mph in the next 36 hours. The storm is already 500 miles wide, which means that a large area will be at risk when it approaches the earth. The impacts of the hurricane could vary from a strong storm surge to floods by torrential rains and hurricane winds. Meteorologists warn that the planned runway is likely to change, but for now, it shows the strong hurricane sweeping the North Carolina coast, with a possible landfall north of Wilmington.

Once it makes landfall, it is predicted that Florence will stagnate and remain over North Carolina for at least 24 hours, increasing the threat of dangerous flooding, NHC director Ken Graham said on Monday. Even in areas far from the coast, he added, parts of North Carolina and Virginia could see rainfall totals of 10-15 inches in the next seven days.

From 5pm. ET, Florence was moving at 13 mph, some 525 miles south-southeast of Bermuda, the hurricane center said. As it approaches the Atlantic coast of the United States, Florence will also benefit from very warm sea surface temperatures of up to 85 degrees, the National Hurricane Center said.

As meteorologist Stu Ostro of The Weather Channel reports via Twitter, since 1851, only four category 4 hurricanes have touched land in northern Florida on the east coast. The northernmost landfall was made by Hazel, a devastating and lethal storm that struck the South Carolina / North Carolina border in October 1954.

Forecasters say Florence will pass between Bermuda and the Bahamas on Tuesday and Wednesday and begin its rapprochement with the United States on Thursday morning. The strong tropical storm winds are expected to begin reaching the Carolinas coast on Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said.

As the danger became apparent over the weekend, the governors of North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia declared states of emergency. They urged residents to prepare, a request that goes from the fortification of houses and the collection of supplies to the preparation of possible evacuation orders.

The US Navy is also taking precautions, and the US Fleet Forces Command. UU He ordered nearly 30 vessels in the Hampton Roads area off the coast of Virginia to go out to sea to avoid the storm. Ships that can not leave the port will be prepared by a variety of means, from the addition of moorings and storm lines to the anchoring and disconnection of grounding cables.

Currently, Florence is projecting hurricane force winds (74 mph or more) up to 30 miles from its center. Meteorologists say that due to the size the storm is expected to reach, it will wreak havoc regardless of how strong its winds are.

Florence is one of three hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean, along with Helene and Isaac. Of the other two storms, which remain far from the earth, Isaac represents the most immediate risk. With winds of 75 mph, it is expected to strengthen a bit before weakening as it approaches the Lesser Antilles on Thursday.

Dangerous storms also threaten parts of the US UU In the Pacific Ocean. Most of the state of Hawaii was under a tropical storm warning or surveillance on Monday morning, while Hurricane Olivia moves westward, with winds of 85 mph.

Avances Programa Boeing 777X

boeingdims.jpg

AW | 2018 09 09 17:29 | INDUSTRY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Advances of the Boeing 777X Program

Boeing-Logo.svgThe first Boeing 777-9X leaves the assembly line at Boeing Everett

The first Boeing 777-9X has left the assembly line at the Boeing factory Everett, Washington, USA. The new generation of the Boeing 777X has begun the process of certifications that the construction company will use for static tests and test type certifications. The Boeing 777X has gone through a process of almost a year of testing and testing to test the strength of the design.

Boeing is building two lines of a new Boeing 777X family, the 9X series and the 8X series, with greater operational autonomy. The Boeing 777-9X offers seats for more than 400 passengers, depending on the configuration options of an airline. With a range of more than 8,200 nautical miles (15,185 km), the aircraft will have the lowest operating cost per seat of any commercial aircraft. The second member of the family, the Boeing 777-8X, will be the most flexible aircraft in the world according to Boeing data. The aircraft will have a capacity of 350 passengers and will offer a range of more than 9,300 nautical miles (17,220 km).

The key to the enthusiasm lies in the economy of the Boeing 777-9X, which is 20% more efficient per seat than the industry’s long-term benchmark, the 777-300ER. The 777-9X combines the best features of the current 777, with a longer fuselage, a new engine and the wing design composed of the Boeing 787. Within the visual changes are also the windows that will have 20% more volume and a lower Altitude of Pressurization to reduce the jet lag (Jet Lag).

Resultado de imagen para Boeing 777X folding wingtipVIEW OF THE FOLDING WINGTIP OF THE NEW BOEING 777-9X

The GE9X engine certification tests began in May 2017. The engine recently completed the icing tests at the GE Aviation facility in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and continues the crosswind tests in the Peebles Test Operation, Ohio, United States. The engine certification is expected for 2019. The engine test flight to validate the tests in bank is fundamental for Boeing to provide hard data to the Australian airline Qantas Airways for its «Sunrise Project» to validate the Sydney-New York route and Sydney-London, nonstop capability for the Boeing 777X-8. Boeing is proposing an adjusted version of its Boeing 777-8X, while Airbus is pushing a similar modified version of its A350 aircraft.

The Boeing 777X will be the first commercial aircraft to employ the development of a pleated wing tip called Folding Wingtip. The wing flexion tests, by means of a set of pulleys, will pull upwards to flex to the point of fracture once a minimum of 150% of the point of maximum flexion in anticipated flight has been overcome.

First flight Boeing 777-9X

The second fuselage of the Boeing 777-9X line is very advanced and will be launched in January 2019 and will carry out its first flight scheduled for March 2019 and the first deliveries will start in 2020. The driving force behind the Boeing 777X program is Emirates Airline, converting the airline is the main customer with an order of 150 units.  A \ W

Grave error seguridad en A330 Malaysia

AW | 2018 09 09 16:14 | AIR INVESTIGATION / AVIATION SAFETY

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Serious security error on A330 from Malaysia

Serious security problem is repeated by Malaysia Airlines plane at the Brisbane Airport

The Australian security authority, the Australian Transportation Security Commission (ATSB), is investigating a serious security incident committed by Malaysian Airlines workers at the Brisbane Airport, Australia.

An Airbus A330-300 of the Malaysian airline took off from the Australian airport without any crew member or ground crew noticing that the plane’s Pitot tubes were covered. This device is used to measure the speed of the aircraft, so the fact that it was covered caused the measurements to be unreliable.

The incident in question took place on 18 July 2018, when an Airbus A330-300 took off from Brisbane to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and was forced to return and land again, paralyzing the main runway of the Australian airport for more than 90 minutes . After the incident, which did not cause injuries, ATSB investigations determined that the three Pitot tubes of the aircraft were covered. Faced with the error, the crew admitted that they are not used to placing and removing covers.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH134, an Airbus A330-300 with 9M-MTK registration, landed again at the Brisbane International Airport, Australia, after the airspeed indicators failed during takeoff. The aircraft took off from runway 01 at 13:31 UTC (23:31 LT, July 18, 2018). The flight crew circled and landed on runway 01 at 14:33 UTC (00:33, 19 July 2018).

The plane had landed at the Brisbane airport at 20:11, after a flight from Kuala Lumpur. The captain, first officer and maintenance engineer of the previous night’s flight, who had been resting in a hotel in Brisbane, arrived at the airport to begin his tasks for the July 18 flight. Shortly after the plane landed, decks were placed on the plane’s three pitot probes. Subsequent inspections during the change did not identify the presence of the Pitot probe covers and were not eliminated prior to the departure of the aircraft.

The first officer was the flying pilot (PF) and the captain was the surveillance pilot (PM). Before the recoil of the aircraft, the captain and the first officer calculated the ‘V’ (critical) speeds of the aircraft for takeoff. For this flight, the decision speed V1 (the maximum speed at which a rejected take-off can be initiated in case of emergency) was 153 kt and the rotation speed VR (when the rotation must start) was 160 kt. The operator’s standard operating procedures for takeoff required the PM to announce when the airspeed reached 100 kt and for the FP to verify this airspeed indication. The wind was calm and there were no clouds. At 23:24, the flight crew started taking a taxi to take off on runway 01.

Later events included:
2331: 05: the flight crew began the takeoff race.
2331: 38: the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) recorded that the captain called ‘100 knots’. The recorded ground speed of the aircraft at this time was 100 kt.
2331: 47: the first officer initiated the rotation. The ground speed recorded at this time was 165 kt.

The flight crew recalled that they detected an aerodynamic speed anomaly during the takeoff roll, including red-speed flags (SPD) on both main flight screens (PFD). Standard operating procedures established that the captain was responsible for the decision to refuse take-off or continue. He stated that rejecting a takeoff between 100 kt and V1 was a serious matter, that a captain should be ‘ready’, and that very few situations should lead to the decision to refuse takeoff. There was no indication in the CVR recording that the captain or the first officer would discuss rejecting the takeoff.

After take-off, the flight crew carried out actions for unreliable airspeed indications and made a PAN call to air traffic control (ATC), warning that they had unreliable airspeed indications. The flight crew continued to climb above 10,000 feet and maneuvered the aircraft northeast of the Brisbane Airport, where they conducted several checklists, troubleshooting and preparation for approaching and landing on runway 01.

According to the published procedures, the flight crew turned off the three aerial data reference systems (ADR) at 23:43. This activated the aircraft’s backup speed scale (BUSS), which provided a color-coded speed scale derived from the angle of attack and other information, and the altitude derived from the GPS data. The flight crew also obtained ground speed information from the ATC and used the radar altimeter of the aircraft.

The normal extension of the landing gear could not be achieved with the three ADRs turned off. The flight crew performed a gravity extension of the landing gear before making an overweight landing on runway 01 at 00:33. After landing, the flight crew stopped the aircraft on the runway since the direction of the front wheel was not available after a gravity extension of the landing gear. The main landing gear doors, which remain open after an extension of gravity, suffered minor damage when they came into contact with the surface of the runway. The plane was towed to the door where passengers and crew disembarked. There were no reports of injuries during the flight.

A subsequent inspection identified that the Pitot probe covers were still placed on the three Pitot probes of the aircraft after landing. There have been multiple reports of insect activity that alter aircraft systems at the Brisbane airport. These include pitted pitot probes, mainly from nests built by mud-dauber and other wasps, resulting in airspeed discrepancies and other effects. The ATSB investigated two rejected take-offs involving A330 aircraft where one of the Pitot probes had been blocked with wasp nests, one in 2006 and another in 2013.

The Brisbane Airport recommends that these probes remain covered while the devices are on track, however, the covers themselves carry warnings in which you can read «Remove Before Flying».

After the incident, the ATSB has launched an information circular to recommend to all air operators that they take particular care in this regard and review their procedures. A warning that is very necessary if one takes into account that in the last decade there have been at least 15 incidents in which a passenger plane had its pitot tubes covered or partially blocked.
