AW-Icon AW001

Boeing-Logo.svg.pngBoeing promises three solutions for the faulty MCAS flight system

The Boeing Company promises solutions to the faulty MCAS Flight System to allow pilots greater independence from controlling the aircraft. Three solution options for the faulty MCAS Flight System will allow pilots to command the aircraft safely. Previously, the software had been based on data from one of two Boeing 737 MAX Attack Angle (AOA) sensors, which controlled the flight’s attitude.

The American manufacturer will introduce changes to the Boost Characteristics Increase System (MCAS) of the Boeing 737 MAX. Boeing said it has addressed these problems with the updated software. MCAS will now depend on the readings of two AOA sensors instead of just one in the original system. The new software will only be activated if both sensors agree that the nose of the plane is too high. Boeing had announced this update earlier this year. Pilots can deactivate the system. When they do, MCAS will not automatically reactivate. Boeing also told attendees that it had flown 1,850 flight hours with software updates and that it had spent more than 100,000 hours of employees in engineering and test development of the new problems. With these changes introduced, the Boeing 737 MAX is expected to return to service approximately in March 2020, although Boeing is trying to reduce the times. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW001

FAA would fine Boeing for defects in 737

20150215-logo-faa_1The FAA proposes a fine of US $ 3.9 million for defective parts in Boeing 737 Next Generation/MAX

The Boeing Company certified approximately 48 Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) and 737 MAX aircraft equipped with potentially defective alar section components between August and October 2018. Additionally, between 10/2018 and 05/2019, it delivered an additional lot of 85,737 NG potentially affected as airworthy, according to the statement of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued on December 6, 2019. The FAA has claimed that Boeing knew of the existence of 133 Boeing 737 corresponding to the 600/700/800/900 NG series containing parts defective but still presenting them for certification. The regulator alleges that Boeing’s quality assurance system failed to control that its suppliers comply with the Federal Aviation Regulations, so the US authority has announced that it proposes a civil fine of US $ 3,916,871 to The Boeing Company, So the American builder will have 30 days to make the corresponding download.

Defective slat tracks

Some 133 Boeing 737 Next Generation and 737 MAX aircraft have installed defective slat tracks (Slat Tracks); the parts could not be used due to a failed resistance test, according to the FAA. Slat Tracks are parts located on the leading edge of the wing. But the parts provided to Boeing by its third-tier supplier Southwest United Industries were improperly manufactured, and a quality test showed the presence of hydrogen fragility, according to the FAA. The condition, known as hydrogen embrittlement, occurred during the coating of cadmium titanium. Such tracks may show signs of early wear and cracks due to a lack of heat treatment. In operation, especially during take-off or landing, an aircraft equipped with such parts could face dangerous situations. While a failure would not lead to the loss of the aircraft, as the FAA has noted earlier, a damaged part could damage a plane in flight.

The problem was first known in June 2019 when Boeing and the FAA informed operators about the situation that required inspections. After the Boeing service bulletin, the FAA issued an Airworthiness Directive (AD) the same month, ordering operators to inspect their aircraft and replace defective parts with new ones.

Around 300 aircraft of the Boeing 737 NG and 737 MAX versions had to be inspected at that time. Boeing hoped that twenty 737 MAX and twenty-one 737 NG could have defective parts. However, inspections were ordered for 179 MAX and 133 NG aircraft to determine if their parts were also defective. While the serial numbers of the affected parties have been reported to the airlines, the darkness of the numbers could be due to additional deficiencies during the Slat Tracks manufacturing process. Slat tracks are required to have an identification mark on them. But the parts provided to Boeing by Southwest United Industries had dark or invisible identification marks since they were not covered with a protective layer, the FAA has now revealed, highlighting that it represented a difficulty in identifying the affected parts. As a third-level supplier, Southwest United Industries provides its production to Spirit AeroSystems, which then, in turn, supplies Boeing. AW-Icon AW002

Airbus secures leadership over Boeing

a320neo-isologotype1.jpgAirbus Group continues to lead the narrowbodies market by 2020

Airbus Group will end the year 2019 ahead of Boeing regarding the total orders of commercial aircraft since 2015, with an increase in profits of approximately 50% from the beginning of January 2019, compared to the gain of less than 10% of the American company

While the uncertainties of the recertification of the Boeing 737 MAX continue, many analysts predict that the European aircraft manufacturer will continue to overcome sales in 2020. However, Airbus production problems amid commercial concerns with the United States could also threaten its performance. «There is no doubt that Airbus has benefited from the problems at Boeing», said Michael Hewson, chief market analyst at CMC Markets UK, in an interview. In fact, he still believes that the market has undervaluation problems in the US manufacturer.

Uncertainty is expected to be the opening issue for Boeing in 2020, and some expect Airbus shares to continue to benefit from the confusion, given that it is the only other major producer of commercial aircraft. However, effective duopoly has become a sharper focus as the World Trade Organization considers competitive claims by the United States and the European Union of unfair state subsidies.

The return to service of the 737 MAX will be the biggest problem to consider for Boeing next year, the focus on Airbus will be in the consequences of the tariff war, in addition to its manufacturing problems and engine problems.

Airbus obtained 542 aircraft orders in 2019 compared to 95 for Boeing, adjusting for cancellations and conversions. The Airbus market share for narrow-body aircraft is now 58%, compared to 56% in January 2019, according to Bank of America analyst Merrill Lynch Benjamin Heelan.

The last blow to Boeing came last week when United Airlines Holdings Inc. said it would buy 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft worth more than US$ 7 billion to replace the old Boeing 757-200 aircraft in its fleet. Boeing has postponed the decision to develop a new airplane of comparable size, as it struggles with the problems of the 737 MAX.

737 MAX certification advances

It is still uncertain when the 737 MAX will return to the heavens, but there are still signs of a return soon. The FAA is making progress in the test analysis of the MCAS Flight System.

Boeing has finalized the modifications of the MCAS Flight System incorporating software duplication for the Angle of Attack (AOA) control of the affected aircraft, acting as a backup that monitors the main system, increasing the reliability redundancy. The warning light of the MCAS System is now mandatory, being a mandatory safety element for all Boeing 737 MAX.

If the tests for the recertification approvals of the 737 MAX line do not suffer any additional obstacles, the aircraft may be back in the air by 1Q2020, where the American company must incorporate the modifications in more than 800 aircraft of which 372 delivered to different airlines before the grounding of 737 MAX, plus the remaining ones manufactured by Boeing to date.

AW-Icon AW001

1280px-Embraer_logo.svg.pngEmbraer minority shareholders association fight against Embraer-Boeing agreement in Europe

An association representing minority investors in Brazil of the aerospace company Embraer SA is pressing European antitrust regulators to reach an agreement between aircraft manufacturers Embraer SA and The Boeing Company, calling it the acquisition of killer.

Aurelio Valporto, Chief of the Abradin minority investors association, said the European Commission should block the purchase proposed by Boeing worth US$ 4.2 billion from the commercial passenger aircraft division. «What will remain of Embraer will not survive, and even if it were possible to survive, Embraer could not produce any aircraft with 50 passengers or more», Valporto said in an interview on Wednesday 04/12 at night, arguing that Embraer and Boeing compete in the market.

Embraer said in a statement on Thursday 05/12 that the agreement «will serve the interests of shareholders by allowing Embraer to expand markets and increase sales». The agreement was backed by about 97% of Embraer’s shareholders earlier this year.

Valporto complained about the agreement to the European Commission two months ago, saying it was damaging competition in the Brazilian aerospace industry, and on Wednesday he brought his complaint to antitrust officials in Brasilia.

The agreement has already been approved by regulators in the United States, China, and Japan. Upon completion, Embraer will receive dividends from its remaining 20% stake in the commercial aircraft business but will have to rely more on its business jets and defense divisions to make a profit. These two divisions have recorded losses in recent quarters.

Embraer’s commercial aircraft division focuses on the 70 to 150 seat segment, competing directly with Airbus A220 aircraft designed by Airbus Group. Boeing aims to take control of Embraer’s commercial aircraft business, the most profitable, to compete directly with Airbus in the aircraft market with less than 150 seats.

The European Commission, which launched a large-scale investigation into the agreement in October 2019, is considering antitrust analysis. Embraer has said: «We continue to cooperate with the European Commission and CADE while they evaluate our transaction and wait for a positive resolution», said a spokesman for the company.

The European Union has expressed concern that the deal would eliminate Embraer, the world’s third-largest commercial aircraft manufacturer in the industry, an indication that it may demand significant Boeing concessions. The EU regulator halted its investigation last month while waiting for Boeing to submit data on the agreement. AW-Icon AW002

AW-Icon AW001

AW-7009989.jpgDelays would affect production 737 MAX

Boeing-Logo.svg.pngCertification delays could affect Boeing 737 MAX production

The Boeing Company has reported that delays in the approval of the 737 MAX certification could affect the production line. The manufacturer is showing signs of concern as the tests for recertification approvals continue in the timeline. The American builder’s estimates established that the 737 MAX aircraft would be in the air by the end of 2019. But the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has a heavy moral responsibility on its backs to successfully complete the important additional regulatory requirements that surround the Boeing 737 MAX Only later, the US regulatory body can give the green light for the aircraft to return to commercial service. But Boeing has said in a statement that the vital signs of the 737 MAX line could cause the aerospace company to temporarily cut or suspend production of the plane.

In his letter to the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, Boeing said he does not expect order cancellations of 737 MAX due to the grounding of his best-selling single-aisle aircraft to have a significant impact on revenue or profit. He cited the size of the 737 MAX order book and its ability to change the planned delivery dates of the customer. Boeing’s letter was a response to SEC requests to clarify the company’s comments in previous financial presentations on the 737 MAX basis related to revenue and production.

Boeing, the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer, is trying to rebuild trust with customers, regulators and the public that is flying in the wake of accidents involving 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing has said that additional delays or a cut in production are possible, as regulators around the world evaluate the 737 MAX, including the proposed Boeing software update at the center of accidents and supplementary training materials.

Boeing said in October 2019 that it expected the Federal Aviation Administration to lift the base in mid-December 2019, although it did not expect the agency to complete its review of the revised training requirements until January 2020. In the October letter, Boeing He also said he does not expect a shortage of space to store parked 737 MAX aircraft, which continue to leave his factory in the Seattle area, would limit his ability to continue production.

100_737MAX8.pngConsultants Meeting

The content was published a day after Boeing concluded two days of meetings with consultants, pilots and other select aviation leaders that it organized in the Seattle area to discuss preparations for the 737 MAX. The events included a demonstration in a flight simulator, meetings with executive director Dennis Muilenburg and other Boeing executives, and a tour of the 737 factory in Renton, south of Seattle, the person added. The media were not invited to the two-day summit. Boeing was planning a separate session with journalists at a later date, a Boeing spokesman said.

Chief Engineering Retreat 737 MAX

Chief Engineer of the Boeing 737 MAX line, John Hamilton, who has played a key role in the company’s response to the grounding of the 737 MAX will retire from its duties next year. Boeing said on Wednesday, December 4, 2019, that Hamilton planned to retire last year as chief commercial aircraft engineer, but stayed to help the 737 MAX be back in service. Hamilton appeared alongside CEO Dennis Muilenburg during two congressional hearings in late October and explained the design and production of the 737 MAX, which is based in March after two fatal accidents.

Hamilton acknowledged that Boeing made some mistakes. These include not having tested whether a defective sensor could activate the plane’s anti-jam system, which investigators believe happened in both accidents, pushing down the noses of the planes. On other occasions, he defended the safety culture of Boeing. While a couple of lawmakers expressed frustration with Hamilton’s responses, they reserved most of their anger for Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg. Instead, he will be replaced by Lynne Hopper, Vice President of Commercial Aviation Engineering at Boeing. She will be the first woman to occupy the position at Boeing, said a spokesman for the company.

Prospects

The hopes of the American company for a rapid return to service vanished in June 2019, when test pilots from the Federal Aviation Administration discovered a separate problem involving flight computers during a session on a flight simulator. The three US airlines that have Boeing 737 MAX planes: Southwest Airlines, American Airlines, and United Airlines, do not expect them to return on schedule until March 2020. Spirit entrega 1er fuselaje KC-46

Spirit AeroSystems delivers the first integrated front fuselage of the Boeing KC-46

The_KC-767J_of_404th_Squadron.jpgSpirit AeroSystems has completed its first integrated front fuselage section of a Boeing KC-46 (Boeing 767) for The Boeing Company, an expanded work statement on the Boeing platform, which serves as a freighter and the base of the KC-46 tanker for the United States Air Force. The unit is scheduled to be delivered today December 04, 2019 to Boeing at the Everett Plant, Washington.

Spirit previously designed and built four separate elements of the end of the front fuselage for the KC-46: the cab, the lower lobe, and two side panels. These were sent by rail to Boeing for integration. With this new work statement, Spirit will integrate all four sections into a single unit before sending it to Boeing. «By winning this new job from our client, we are demonstrating that our workforce, our technology, and our skills are ready to move forward», said Kristin Robert, Vice President of the Twin Aisle Programs at Spirit AeroSystems.

The integration work of the Boeing KC-46 began in October 2018 at the newly opened advanced manufacturing facilities on the Wichita, Kansas campus. The building shows Spirit’s innovative use of new technologies in production lines to improve quality and efficiency.

«With this new facility in Greenfield, we had the opportunity to integrate the existing construction process with the new technology and completely rethink how we interact with the aircraft throughout our assembly process. This really demonstrates what we believe will be the next manufacturing phase: the factory of the future. The benefits of this new advanced manufacturing facility will allow Spirit to increase our competitiveness through improved costs and quality and help us win future business», said Kami Power, Program Manager 747/767 Spirit AeroSystems.

The new facility, which began in October 2018, will include advances such as automated production that reduces assembly time and increases quality, and monitoring and management of raw material materials throughout the supply chain. These advances, integrated into an optimized system, will help reduce assembly time and increase quality performance. This new work statement doubles Spirit’s work content in the fuselage and requires additional square footage on the Wichita site. The assembled unit is too large to be sent by rail or truck, so the structure will be transported through the Dreamlifter, a modified Boeing 747, from Wichita to Everett, just as the integrated fuselage of the Boeing 787 is today. United ordena 50 A321NEO XLR

AW-A321XLR_United.jpgAW | 2019 12 04 10:32 | AIRLINES / INDUSTRY

United orders 50 A321NEO XLR

A3321-Logo001.jpgUnited Airlines orders 50 Airbus A321XLRs transatlantic

United Airlines has placed a firm order of 50 Airbus A321XLR aircraft, as it begins to eliminate older models and launches of an expansion of transatlantic routes from its key US centers in New York/Newark and Washington DC.

United Airlines will take delivery of the first A321NEO XLR in 2024 and expects to begin international service with the plane in 2025. “The new Airbus A321XLR aircraft is a one-for-one replacement ideal for the larger, less efficient aircraft currently operating between some of the most vital cities in our intercontinental network. In addition to strengthening our ability to fly more efficiently, the A321XLR opens up new potential destinations to further develop our route network and offer customers more options to travel the world”, said Andrew Nocella, Executive Vice President of United and Director Commercial.

“We are delighted to return to the States with our friends in Chicago and we thank you for your trust. The selection of the A321XLR by United Airlines management is a resounding endorsement of the reach, payload and fuel efficiency. The exceptional versatility and performance of the A321XLR allow new operational efficiencies that flow to the final result of the airline”, said Christian Scherer, Commercial Director of Airbus.

The A321NEO XLR is the next evolutionary step in the A320NEO / A321NEO, which are the market needs for greater reach and payload in a single-aisle aircraft by creating more value for airlines, allowing an economically viable service on the routes longer than any comparable model aircraft. This will allow the service of the east coast of the United States to a much wider selection of European destinations. The A321XLR will deliver an unprecedented narrow-body fuselage range of up to 4,700nm, with 30% lower fuel consumption per seat compared to competitor jets of the previous generation. A maximum takeoff weight (MTOW) of 101 metric tons will be taken, while takeoff, ascent, and flight performance will change little of the A321NEO.

Communality

The A321NEO XLR will be operated by the same team, driven by the same engines and have the same cabin as the A321NEO, with more than 90% communality. The combination of two rear central fuel tanks of the A321NEO in one adds the fuel capacity and reduces the structural weight. Other significant changes include structural reinforcements and modified landing gear for maximum take-off weight gain, increased braking capacity, higher tire speed, and additional flap and lath configurations.

The design of the new airplane with Cabin Flex fuselage, the A321XLR will accommodate a variety of seating classes and configurations suitable for longer flights.

By the end of October 2019, the A320NEO Family had accumulated more than 7,000 firm orders from more than 110 customers worldwide. Airbus has increased the aircraft market in the segment between 150-200 seats. The new United Airlines order shows a clear message to the American builder, that despite the bad lessons he is learning from the Boeing 737 MAX line; continues to evade the development of a substitute for the transatlantic Boeing 757. OMC contra Unión Europea

Image result for WTO Airbus BoeingAW | 2019 12 03 11:01 | INDUSTRY / AVIATION

AW-Reuters_A380.pngWTO vs. European Union

WTO against the European Union for Airbus-Boeing

The World Trade Organization (WTO) rejects the European Union‘s claims that subsidies are not yet being granted to Airbus Group and decides that the A350 has cost The Boeing Company sales and damaged its prospects for market share. The decision is the latest development in a commercial battle over airplanes sold by Airbus and Boeing. The United States won the right to impose tariffs on EU imports worth US$ 7.5B in its case against Airbus, while the EU will hear a similar case of reprisals on Boeing’s imports next year.

A WTO panel evaluating the EU and Airbus measures they have adopted to comply with the WTO recommendations has issued its conclusions. As a result of the panel’s conclusions, the United States must immediately reduce the US$ 7.5 billion in tariffs that the WTO authorizes the US in October 2019 by about US$ 2 billion. This is the direct result of the Panel’s finding that the A380 development loans no longer have an impact on Boeing sales and, therefore, the value of lost sales no longer exists. The United States Commercial Representative (USTR) must now accept the reality that loans made to Airbus in the 2000s for the development of a product that is no longer sold are not having an impact on Boeing sales.

The panel also states that the modifications already made to the A350 loan agreements are not sufficient to fully harmonize the loans with market conditions. Based on these findings, Airbus would support appealing this report, according to WTO rules. In May 2018, the WTO Appellate Body clarified that the EU and Airbus have achieved compliance with respect to the vast majority of the measures in question, but considered that some adjustments to the A380 and A350 loans were necessary, or to remedy Its effects on the market. Therefore, measures have been taken in both programs related to the respective credits of the Member States or in the effects on the market the loans they had on Boeing.

Airbus remains have pledged to work with the EU and its member states to comply with WTO recommendations. With the wide range of additional measures to comply with the WTO findings since 2018, the European Union and Airbus have demonstrated their willingness to ensure a fair trade environment while respecting international trade agreements.

On the contrary, the parts of the United States in question have not taken visible measures to address their illegal subsidies, despite the findings of the WTO Appellate Body in April 2019 than the US. they had not withdrawn the subsidies for the benefit of Boeing, or to remedy its effects on the market through the 737 MAX, 787 or 777X.

Therefore, the EU requested the authorization of the WTO to impose countermeasures on the importation of the United States, according to its estimate of the effects of US Airbus subsidies that come to US$ 12 billion per year. That decision is expected in spring 2020 and would provide EU authorization to impose import tariffs on US products, including Boeing aircraft.

Airbus continues to encourage the USTR to accept the invitation of the European Commission to participate in meaningful discussions to find a solution to these conflicts. A negotiated solution is the only way to restore and preserve fair and free trade competition, which is essential for essential industry and global aviation. AW-Icon AW002

Certificación A350-1000 mayor pax

A350-1000_timeline.pngAW | 2019 12  01 16:08 | INDUSTRY

AW-Icon AW001

logo_airbus (2)Airbus has certified the A350-100 with a greater passenger capacity

The Airbus A350-1000 has been certified to transport a maximum of 480 seats, by installing modified exits. The same model had been previously approved for up to 440 seats. Modifications in the development of a new Type A+ exit, with a double-lane evacuation slide, have allowed the fuselage to ensure a higher seat count according to the European Union Air Safety Agency (EASA).

The 480-seat version would require a design at all four exits (doors) to accommodate greater evacuation capacity. EASA lists several zonal configurations for this version, with up to 120-124 seats in the front cabin, 170-180 seats in the central cabin and 180-190 seats in the aft cabin. The authority also gives options for a maximum of 460 or 470 seats if fewer Type A+ exits are mounted. EASA declares that the minimum number of cabin crew required increases to nine if the maximum number of seats exceeds 400, and adds that a third cabin crew member must be stationed at each pair of Type A+ outputs installed.

Airbus has also used these modified outputs to increase the maximum accommodation of the A330-900 to 460 seats. Increasing the number of seats in the A350-1000 will potentially improve your competitiveness against the rival Boeing 777X. AW-Icon AW002
