Spirit AeroSystems entrega el primer fuselaje delantero integrado del Boeing KC-46
Spirit AeroSystems ha completado su primera sección integrada de fuselaje delantero de un Boeing KC-46 (Boeing 767) para The Boeing Company, una declaración ampliada de trabajo en la plataforma Boeing, que sirve como un carguero y la base del buque tanque KC-46 para la Fuerza Aérea de los Estados Unidos. Spirit previamente diseñó y construyó cuatro elementos separados del extremo del fuselaje delantero para el KC-46: la cabina, el lóbulo inferior y dos paneles laterales. Estos fueron enviados por ferrocarril a Boeing para su integración. Con esta nueva declaración de trabajo, Spirit integrará las cuatro secciones en una sola unidad antes de enviar a Boeing. “Al ganar este nuevo trabajo de nuestro cliente, estamos demostrando que nuestra fuerza laboral, nuestra tecnología y nuestras habilidades están listas para avanzar hacia el futuro”, dijo Kristin Robert, Vicepresidenta de los Programas Twin Aisle de Spirit AeroSystems.
El trabajo de integración del Boeing KC-46 comenzó en Octubre 2018 en las instalaciones de fabricación avanzada recientemente abiertas en el campus de Wichita, Kansas. El edificio muestra el uso innovador de Spirit de nuevas tecnologías en las líneas de producción para mejorar la calidad y la eficiencia.
“Con esta nueva instalación en Greenfield, tuvimos la oportunidad de integrar el proceso de construcción existente con la nueva tecnología y repensar por completo cómo interactuamos con el avión a lo largo de nuestro proceso de ensamblaje. Esto realmente demuestra lo que creemos que será la próxima fase de fabricación: la fábrica del futuro. Los beneficios en esta nueva instalación de fabricación avanzada permitirán a Spirit aumentar nuestra competitividad a través de costos y calidad mejorados y ayudarnos a ganar negocios futuros”, dijo Kami Power, Gerente del Programa 747/767 de Spirit AeroSystems.
La nueva instalación, que comenzó en Octubre 2018, incluirá avances como la producción automatizada que reduce el tiempo de ensamblaje y aumenta la calidad, y el seguimiento y la gestión de materiales de las materias primas en toda la cadena de suministro. Estos avances, integrados en un sistema optimizado, ayudarán a reducir el tiempo de montaje y aumentar el rendimiento de calidad. Esta nueva declaración de trabajo duplica el contenido laboral de Spirit en el fuselaje y requiere pies cuadrados adicionales en el sitio de Wichita. La unidad ensamblada es demasiado grande para enviarla por ferrocarril o camión, por lo que la estructura se transportará a través del Dreamlifter, un Boeing 747 modificado, de Wichita a Everett, tal como lo es hoy el fuselaje integrado dl Boeing 787.

Spirit AeroSystems delivers the first integrated front fuselage of the Boeing KC-46
Spirit AeroSystems has completed its first integrated front fuselage section of a Boeing KC-46 (Boeing 767) for The Boeing Company, an expanded work statement on the Boeing platform, which serves as a freighter and the base of the KC-46 tanker for the United States Air Force. The unit is scheduled to be delivered today December 04, 2019 to Boeing at the Everett Plant, Washington.
Spirit previously designed and built four separate elements of the end of the front fuselage for the KC-46: the cab, the lower lobe, and two side panels. These were sent by rail to Boeing for integration. With this new work statement, Spirit will integrate all four sections into a single unit before sending it to Boeing. “By winning this new job from our client, we are demonstrating that our workforce, our technology, and our skills are ready to move forward”, said Kristin Robert, Vice President of the Twin Aisle Programs at Spirit AeroSystems.
The integration work of the Boeing KC-46 began in October 2018 at the newly opened advanced manufacturing facilities on the Wichita, Kansas campus. The building shows Spirit’s innovative use of new technologies in production lines to improve quality and efficiency.
“With this new facility in Greenfield, we had the opportunity to integrate the existing construction process with the new technology and completely rethink how we interact with the aircraft throughout our assembly process. This really demonstrates what we believe will be the next manufacturing phase: the factory of the future. The benefits of this new advanced manufacturing facility will allow Spirit to increase our competitiveness through improved costs and quality and help us win future business”, said Kami Power, Program Manager 747/767 Spirit AeroSystems.
The new facility, which began in October 2018, will include advances such as automated production that reduces assembly time and increases quality, and monitoring and management of raw material materials throughout the supply chain. These advances, integrated into an optimized system, will help reduce assembly time and increase quality performance. This new work statement doubles Spirit’s work content in the fuselage and requires additional square footage on the Wichita site. The assembled unit is too large to be sent by rail or truck, so the structure will be transported through the Dreamlifter, a modified Boeing 747, from Wichita to Everett, just as the integrated fuselage of the Boeing 787 is today.
