Pax flow increase in Rosario Airport
Domestic flights grew at Rosario Airport
A report by the National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC) Argentina explained that the routes that connect through the Rosario International Airport (AIR) are among those that increased the most in Argentina.
With data from the Ministry of Transportation of Argentina, the study indicated that among the routes with the highest percentage of passenger increase compared to September 2018, the Rosario-Salta connection with 4,800 passengers is located, representing 154% year-on-year growth. Followed by the Rosario-Iguazú connection with 4,000 more passengers, representing a 145% year-on-year increase.
Considering the accumulated period of January-September 2019 with the same period last year, passenger growth on these routes represents 106% for the Rosario-Salta route (33,000 against 16,000 passengers), for the Rosario-Iguazu route and 88% more (30 thousand against 16 thousand passengers).
Domestic flights
The highlight of the Rosario Airport is that during the month of September 2019, more than 33,000 passengers passed on domestic flights. With an interannual growth of 10% compared to the 30,000 cabotage passengers who flew in the same month of 2018 and showing an 89% increase in total passengers in the January-September 2019 period compared to the same period of 2015. At the level National, in September 2019, 1,325,000 passengers traveled on commercial cabotage flights, which represents 41% more than the same month of 2015. In the last 4 years, 384,000 people joined. The interannual variation against September 2018 shows a rise of 6% when 1,253 million flew.
International flights
During the month of September 2019, more than 128 thousand people flew abroad directly without passing through the airports of the Metropolitan Area of Buenos Aires (AMBA), and so far in 2019, the figure exceeds 1.46 million people, doubling the registration of the first nine months of 2015, with 744 thousand additional passengers. September 2019 reached a total of 1.11 million passengers, 4% lower than in September 2018, although 13% higher than in the same month of 2015, with 127 thousand additional passengers.
Destination expansion
Rosario International Airport (AIR) confirmed the flight schedule for the 2019 summer season, adding more national and international connections.
Aerolíneas Argentinas will add different flights for the summer season that depart from the local air station. This was stated by the spokeswoman of the AIR, Cecilia Gabenara. The new options by the flag airline will begin at the end of the year. On December 20, 2019, two weekly frequencies will be added, on Fridays and Sundays, with Rosario-Punta del Este flights. On December 27, 2019, there will be two other weekly frequencies, also on Fridays and Sundays, towards Rio de Janeiro. Also on December 28, 2019, a flight to Florianopolis will be added, on Saturdays, and from December 31, 2019, Airlines will fly to Mar del Plata on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Gol Linhas Aéreas currently has five flights per week to Rio de Janeiro, expanding to nine flights per week on that route.
The arrival of JetSmart Airlines
JetSmart Airlines Argentina will arrive at the Rosario Airport starting operating on October 16, 2019, with two weekly direct frequencies Rosario-Neuquén (2Fqr/S) positioning a corridor to Patagonia.
JetSmart Argentina incorporates two routes Mendoza and Iguazu in November 2019. These routes are currently operated by other airlines, which are increasing the offers of schedules and frequencies, as well as stimulating the price offer.
Rosario Airport recalls that these offers are complemented by the network of existing flights available regularly throughout the year.
Award Winning Project
An innovative project for what will be the international terminal of the Islas Malvinas de Rosario Airport was awarded by the Latin American Architecture Biennial of Buenos Aires. The secretary of Architecture of the province, Silvana Codina, said that the distinction was granted because it is a design that uses one of the most advanced construction technologies in the world. In fact, Fisherton’s air station will be the first public building to be built with these resources. «This is a project that we began to study and chart three years ago. And in 2018 it was called a tender. It has to do with the international airport terminal and includes a special technology. It was never used in the country for facades. It is in a way to hold and put the glass in front. This technique is very developed in the world, but in our country, there is no building with that technology», said the head of the Architecture area of the province.
«It is a technology that integrates the façade to the existing structure of the building. It works as a whole and prevents visibility due to overlapping columns supporting the glass. There is a network of very imperceptible cables and steel buttons stainless that support the entire facade that faces the track and also the one that looks towards the city. It extends visibility from the inside», Codina explained.
The architect said that this technology is present, for example, at LaGuardia airport, in New York. «The great airports of the world manage these facades. We are encouraged to propose it to Fisherton and we had a lot of support from the local workshops. We also went to international engineering studios to transfer this technology to the local environment. The work can be done here, you just have to have the advice of an engineering study and that was done by tender to make it available. We are happy to present this project at the Latin American Biennial of Buenos Aires. It is a very prestigious show. We are proud to bring a Rosario project to that stage». ![]()
