Aeroflot desguace A350 para repuestos

AW | 2022 08 09 10:20 | AIRLINES

Proceso desguace forzado por bloqueo Occidental

AW-Aeroflot__Isologotype

Aeroflot scrapping A350 for spare parts

Scrapping process forced by Western blockade

The Russian airline Aeroflot Russian Airlines has announced the start of scrapping processes in Western commercial aircraft units driven by the Western blockade due to the Russo-Ukrainian war. Western media have learned that at least one Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 and one Airbus A350-900 aircraft, both practically new, have been grounded by Aeroflot to be dismantled and used as spare parts for its fleet. In addition, the airline some Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 out of use intended to supply parts to other similar aircraft. Russian planes do not have Western spare parts due to the blockade to which the country is subjected as a sanction for the war in Ukraine.

aw-aeroflot__a3509003

The cannibalization process becomes evident in the airline Aeroflot, when it has the need to feed the fleet with spare parts to continue flying. The company’s star aircraft is the latest and most modern aircraft, the Airbus A350-900. Currently, the European manufacturer does not supply new materials because of the sanctions imposed on the Russian Federation. Also, in the case of the Russian-made Sukhoi SSJ-100, which also has a strong dependence on Western spare parts because many imported component parts and by extension suffer the same consequences, while some Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 with the same destiny.

After the isolation suffered by the Russian Federation, it is currently unable to access spare parts, materials and software updates that are constantly taking place, causing a real problem for aeronautical engineers. From the moment the technological blocking measures came into force, specialists assumed that Russia was going to have to resort to new planes to keep another part of the fleet operational.

Aeroflot’s fleet is made up of 80 percent Western aircraft, of which it has 134 Boeing units and 146 Airbus units. The most frequent Russian aircraft in its fleet is the Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100, of which it currently has sixty-five units, of which only about three aircraft are in flight, while four SSJ-100 are virtually parked.

The fleet availability of the Russian airline is around 85%, while 15 percent of them have not flown since July 2022. Of the long-range A350s, three of the seven have not operated for three months. One of those three is being dismembered to keep the others operational, a true paradox in a world where things sometimes happen the other way around.

Pilotos Aerolíneas en asamblea

AW | 2022 08 09 09:35 | AIR TRAFFIC

Aerolíneas pilots in assembly

Delays/cancellations at Aeroparque due to pilot assembly

Around sixteen flights were canceled and another forty-one were delayed on Monday 08/08 at the Buenos Aires/Jorge Newbery/AEP Airport due to an assembly carried out by Aerolíneas Argentinas workers grouped in the Airline Pilots Association (APLA). The assembly, which began shortly after 1:00 p.m., initially also involved other sectors, such as ramp workers and cabin crew, which at times complicated all the companies that operate at the air station. metropolitan. The measure lasted until shortly after 5:30 p.m.

The employees resumed their tasks, normalizing the operations of the other companies, while the Aerolíneas Argentinas pilots resumed service later, when 1,697 passengers had been affected by cancellations and 4,303 passengers by delays, sources from Aerolíneas Argentinas indicated. The claims of the pilots, among others, consisted in the incorporation of more personnel, in the adequacy of the rates and in the internal regulations.

Aerolíneas Argentinas, through a statement released on Monday 08/08 in the afternoon, lamented the situation and defined the measure of the pilots as irrational: «Aerolíneas Argentinas regrets the irrational measure of force implemented by the Association of Airline Pilots through assemblies at Aeroparque Jorge Newbery, which is affecting the normal functioning of the operation, with cancellations and delays in our flights that harm more than 2,000 passengers. This forceful measure, with a clear political content, finds no reason to be in the working conditions of those represented by APLA, but rather has as its sole objective to condition the Government’s commercial and economic policy, which has sustained the sources of work and wages throughout the pandemic. Regarding the wage claim, it should be remembered that the last parity is in force until the month of September and that a negotiation table has been formed, whose next meeting and a was called for Wednesday. Regarding the rest of the manifested claims (implementation of tariff bands, collective agreement for activity and personnel income), its implementation exceeds the framework of attributions of this company, dealing with definitions that exceed the employment relationship that links Aerolíneas Argentinas with its pilots. As is public knowledge, through Decree No. 246/22, the National Government restricted the entry of personnel into the public sector, of which Aerolíneas Argentinas is an integral part. However, according to the outlined fleet plan, the company is carrying out the corresponding procedure in order to comply with current regulations. On the other hand, both the establishment of a regulatory framework for airfares and the definition of a collective agreement by activity are not within the powers of this company, which is why the force measure implemented is irrational and unjustifiable. Despite this, we want to highlight the effort of the different areas of Government to address the claims raised. And we call on the union association to re-establish the dialogue that was untimely interrupted, by means of a forceful measure that affects both our passengers and tourist destinations in the middle of the winter season». Finally, it asks passengers to check their e-mail boxes before possible changes to your reservations.

Boeing profundiza sostenibilidad

AW | 2022 08 09 08:55 | INDUSTRY / AVIATION

Boeing asume nuevo papel reducir emisiones aviación

Boeing_Isologo.svg

Boeing deepens sustainability

Boeing takes on new role in reducing aviation emissions

The Boeing Company will represent the aviation industry in a global alliance established jointly by the United States Government and the World Economic Forum to accelerate clean technologies and reduce carbon emissions. The First Movers Coalition (FMC) was created in late 2021 to harness the buying power of major companies to accelerate the pace of decarbonization of industry sectors such as shipping, chemicals, and trucking. Boeing, a founding member of the coalition, will serve as the champion for the aviation sector.

As part of its new role, Boeing is committed to supporting the increased commercialization of sustainable aviation fuels and advancing other low-carbon technologies. Scaling up sustainable solutions is central to the aviation sector’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2050 and the broader goal of keeping global temperatures 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels, the so-called «1, 5°C».

«We can only maintain the critical 1.5C climate trajectory if we drive the market for disruptive zero-carbon technologies and make them as economically competitive as existing carbon-intensive solutions. I congratulate Boeing on its new role in the championship and look forward to working together to drive the need and accelerate the use of these emerging technologies», said Nancy Gillis, Director of the First Movers Coalition.

Boeing said it will leverage current technologies and increase industry partnerships to expand sustainable aviation fuel supplies, while shaping strategies to develop new solutions. «We are honored to serve as ‘champions’ for our sector and are committed to partnering with FMC members and others to scale SAF and accelerate low-carbon technologies to decarbonize aviation», said Brian Moran, Vice President of Policy and Partnerships at Boeing Global Sustainability.

Boeing has recruited one of the leading experts in sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) to work with the more than 50 companies in the First Movers Coalition and other industry partners. Robert Boyd will join Boeing from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), where he led decarbonization efforts, including advancing commercial SAF deployment and addressing political, economic, sustainability and logistical challenges. Boyd also served as a member of the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Fuels Task Force. Additionally, he served for four years on the Board of Directors of the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB).

«Boeing has been a pioneer in making SAF a reality and having Robert join our team is further proof that we are 100% committed to working together to meet the industry’s net zero emissions commitment by 2050», said Brian Moran.

Boeing’s new role builds on the aerospace company’s sustainability efforts, which include the ecoDemonstrator program that in 2018 made the world’s first commercial airliner flight using 100% sustainable fuels with a 777 Freighter, in collaboration with FedEx Express. In 2021, Boeing has partnered across the industry to decarbonize the aerospace industry, including with SkyNRG, Alaska Airlines, Etihad Airways, NASA, Rolls-Royce and United Airlines. Boeing is also making progress through its joint venture, Wisk, to bring the first all-electric, autonomous air taxi to market in the US. Boeing also has significant experience with hydrogen, conducting six technology demonstrations in the last fifteen years.

Embraer presentación video turboprop

AW | 2022 08 08 20:10 | INDUSTRY

Embraer lanza video nuevo turbohélice E3 en desarrollo

Embraer_Isologotype_001

Embraer turboprop video presentation

Embraer releases video of new turboprop E3 in development

Embraer_Isotype

The Brazilian company Embraer has made its public presentation of a new video of the company’s new turboprop aircraft, introducing aesthetic details of the new generation turboprop aircraft. The aerospace builder has attracted interest in the new development line for short-haul flights at less popular airports. The new video presentation shows more defined aspects of the development of E3 that allows us to understand that there is compatibility between the E2-Jet and E3-Jet lines.

The new development of the so-called New Generation TurboProp (TPNG) will ensure the continuity of the saga after the completion of the Embraer Emb-120 production line in 2001. The new structure of the TPGN, also known as the Embraer E3 Program, will strengthen the range of aircraft in different sectors of regional aviation.

Embraer E3

Embraer forecasts a demand for approximately 10,950 new aircraft with up to 150 seats in the next 20 years. The replacement of old aircraft will account for 57% of all new deliveries, while 43% will be used to grow markets.

As of March 2022 it has completed wind tunnel testing of prototype propeller systems and will conduct full wind tunnel testing this year. Embraer is currently working with various engine manufacturers to find the most effective engine for the TPNG. Currently, Embraer maintains almost all aspects of the project, but will determine the decision of its power plant by the end of the year 2022.

Embraer says its next-generation turboprop will bring disruptive economics to the sector. The new aircraft is more of an E-Jet E-2 aircraft with a different form of propulsion rather than an upgraded turboprop. The TPNG will have the same cockpit experience as E2. Moving the engines to the rear of the fuselage will mean a much quieter cabin. Embraer will develop two versions; one version of TP50 for 50 seats and another for TP90 for 90 seats. The TP90 will have up to 15% lower operating costs, 25% more seats, lower fuel consumption and will be 20% faster than existing turboprops.

Embraer believes there will be a trend towards smaller aircraft, driven by a growing need for flexibility, connectivity and efficiency. The drive for greater sustainability will accelerate the transition to decarbonisation, to be achieved through new generation aircraft, propulsion systems and fuel sources. Of the demand for nearly 11,000 new planes, Embraer says 2,280, or 21%, will be turboprops.

Embraer’s decision is to have everything ready for the official launch of the new TPNG turboprop design by early or mid-2023, to start the manufacture and certification of the next new generation aircraft with an estimated entry into service for airlines in early 2028.

Lufthansa hacia huelga pilotos

AW | 2022 08 08 10:44 | AIRLINES / AVIATION ORGANISMS

Lufthansa towards pilot strike

Lufthansa pilots overwhelmingly vote in favor of strike

AW-Lutfhansa_Isotype

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) Pilots’ Union and the Lufthansa Airlines company have established six rounds of negotiations with the airline’s board of directors without producing favorable results. The management has not presented a serious offer of improvements in working conditions for the pilots. Under pressure from its members, the pilots’ union was forced to declare negotiations a failure and call a strike vote. In a recent strike vote, 97.6 percent of Lufthansa passenger airline pilots and 99.3 percent of Lufthansa Cargo pilots voted in favor of taking action, the Vereinigung Cockpit Pilots Guild announced ( VC) on Sunday 08/07. At the same time, he told the Board that he did not want a strike and offered to continue the formally failed negotiations, which are now called “exploratory talks”.

Vereinigung Cockpit negotiator Marcel Gröls stated that it was initially a red flag for the Lufthansa Executive Board. Management was now expected to finally make good deals. What was needed was “a serious will to find a solution on the part of Lufthansa, to jointly create spaces for creative solutions in the interest of the company and its employees”, said the Head of VC collective bargaining.

Lufthansa’s 5,000 or so pilots are confronted with the fact that the union is restricting and sabotaging their almost 100 percent willingness to strike. This, in turn, strengthens and encourages Lufthansa’s management to stick to its provocative wage policy aimed at driving down wages. To push through their demands, the pilots must wage a battle on two fronts. They must unite in a rank-and-file action committee, independent of the pilots’ union, to implement their decision to strike. At the same time, such an action committee creates the prerequisite for linking the pilots’ struggle with that of other Lufthansa employees, such as ground crew, who are currently also involved in collective bargaining disputes. In addition, it creates the possibility of establishing contact with striking aviation workers in other companies and countries, coordinating their struggles and mobilizing all the fighting power of pilots and all other aviation workers.

Without breaking VC’s control, the fight cannot be won, despite a strong willingness to strike. Conflicts arose when wage demands were being drafted. Pilots working for the subsidiaries Eurowings, Austrian Airlines, Swiss Airlines, Air Dolomiti, etc., which belong to the Lufthansa Group, but earn much less than employees of the main brand, demanded a significant salary increase to compensate for the losses of the past years and the effects of monetary inflation.

The Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) capped its claim for this year at 5.5 percent, which, even if fully implemented, would mean a massive loss of real wages, and has postponed a claim for automatic compensation for inflation until next year. In addition, they demand a single collective agreement that covers all cabin crew, which is a double-edged sword. While it is desirable to overcome the different agreements in the different flight operations, the Executive Board is trying to break the previous prominence of the central brand and make low wages the standard. The great will to strike of the pilots is also a response to the massive concessions that VC has made in recent years due to the coronavirus pandemic. This has led to a significant deterioration in working conditions and huge losses in income.

In the spring of 2020, shortly after the start of the pandemic, the Vereinigung Cockpit (VC) had agreed to cut pilot salaries by up to 50 percent, initially until the end of the year. Shortly before that, the VC management extended this salary cut until the end of June 2022. In addition to part-time work, the package included concessions on salaries and pensions. “The concessions agreed this spring and now offered additionally amount to a total value of more than 600 million euros. This corresponds to salary reductions of up to 50 percent compared to the pre-crisis period”, declared Markus Wahl, then President of VC, just under two years ago.

Lufthansa’s two other unions, Verdi and UFO (Independent Flight Attendants Organisation), have also offered to cut vacation and holiday bonuses and agree to a pay freeze and waiver of allowances, raising the total return of labor force income to around €1.3 billion Euros.

Lufthansa Airlines is particularly unscrupulous in its treatment of young pilots and junior staff. Six months after the start of the pandemic, which for future pilots meant a complete interruption of their expensive training, Lufthansa management invited its 500 pilot students to a video call. Stephan Klar, then Managing Director of LAT, the Lufthansa subsidiary responsible for pilot training, opened up by telling the shocked students that he didn’t make economic or career sense for them to continue their training. The students were called to «reorient themselves professionally», he said. Around 200 Lufthansa students filed a legal complaint against this. But the Frankfurt Labor Court dismissed the lawsuit in December 2021, as well as injunctions against the closure of pilot schools in Bremen and Phoenix, Arizona. LAT Chief Matthias Spohr, brother of Lufthansa CEO Carsten Spohr, welcomed the Court’s ruling, citing the alleged «reduced need for pilots» due to the pandemic. Meanwhile, Lufthansa is resuming pilot training, under much worse conditions.

European strikes

After Lufthansa and other airlines were bailed out with billions of Euros from the Government in the wake of the pandemic, these amounts will now be removed from staff through cuts in real wages and job reductions. Resistance to this is growing. The Lufthansa pilots’ willingness to strike is part of a broad wave of strikes in the international aviation industry that has been going on for months.

Pilots in Spain at Easyjet, Europe’s second-largest low-cost airline, have announced a nine-day strike for August. Some 900 SAS pilots from Denmark, Norway and Sweden went on strike in early July; Hundreds of flights operated by the Scandinavian airline were cancelled. The company used the strike as a pretext to declare bankruptcy and reorganize flight operations under new conditions. A vote on a cabin crew strike is underway at British Airways after a ground staff strike was called off at the last minute. And earlier this week, Portuguese unions announced strikes at all major airports to start in the second half of August.

But unions everywhere are trying to isolate these international strike movements from each other and prevent a joint fight. In Germany, the Verdi service sector union is desperately trying to stop the collective bargaining dispute of Lufthansa’s estimated 20,000 ground workers to avoid a joint fight with the pilots.

The pilots must take control of their pay dispute and strike decision into their own hands. They must not allow union officials, who are also part of the company’s supervisory board, collect large rewards and represent the interests of the corporation, to dictate what they can demand and whether or not their decision to strike will be carried out.

Pilots in particular, who are constantly in contact with colleagues in different countries and continents, know that they face the same or similar problems all over the world. Now they must unite internationally and use their strike power to organize a common struggle of all aviation workers. That is why the break with the Vereinigung Cockpit and the creation of independent action committees are so important. Only through a conscious intervention of the workforce is it possible to repel the intensification of exploitation and overcome the chaos at airports. Aviation and public transportation, like health care, nursing, and education, are important components of socially indispensable public services that should not be subordinated to the profit-making capitalist economy.

The creation of Action Committees is an important step in developing international cooperation that places the interests of pilots and all other aviation workers and the needs of passengers above the profit interests of corporations and shareholders.

Lufthansa in richtung Pilotenstreik

Lufthansa-Piloten stimmen mit überwältigender Mehrheit für Streik

Lufthansa_Group_Wordmark.svg

The Colombian airlines Avianca Airlines and Viva Air Colombia (Fast Colombia S.A.S.) had announced their integration, now they are seeking permission from the Colombian Civil Aeronautics to operate under a single holding company or parent company. For this, the aeronautical authority will have to evaluate that this union is not anti-competitive for the South American country. The aeronautical agency Aerocivil will decide whether to approve such a requirement so that the impact of a dominant position does not harm air transport users. If the synergy is approved, Avianca and Viva Air will reach 65% of the Colombian market share, while Latam Airlines Colombia will have a 20% share, Wingo 4.5% and Easyfly 4%.

The Abra Group, made up of Avianca, Viva and GOL, is looking for a single group to control them financially. Before this new player in the industry, the President and founder of Ultra Air, William Shaw said that Avianca sends a clear message of wanting to «continue concentrating the air monopoly in Colombia and a latent risk that the low-cost model in the country is extinguish”.

The Abra Group is focused on capturing a diversified market model under the three airlines, allowing it to provide greater benefits to its customers and face the challenges of the industry. Likewise, they plan to be the leading group of airlines in Latin America, reaching a structure similar to Latam Airlines Group. The new Group will have financial investors who will initially inject more than US$ 350 million in shares, once they receive authorization for the transaction. Additionally, it will have a convertible credit in a representative investment, in exchange for a minority interest in the Chilean airline Sky Airline.

Argentina: Restringen tickets exterior

AW | 2022 08 08 09:44 | AIRLINES / GOVERNMENT

Argentina: Foreign Ticket Issuance Restricted

Airlines restrict the sale of tickets abroad

The restrictive measures aim to prevent many users who do not reside in the country from buying, through family, friends or some travel agencies, the tickets issued in Argentina with credit cards in pesos to pay a lower rate, taking advantage of the tourist dollar. In this way, the issuance of tickets abroad, which is the main source of foreign exchange for companies, was being reduced. In return, it is intended to encourage the passenger who begins his itinerary abroad, to carry out, as is usually done, the purchase of his ticket in his place of origin.

The first airline to make the decision to limit the issuance of travel tickets that do not start in the country was Aerolíneas Argentinas, with the aim of preventing foreign exchange from being lost in the purchase of those tickets. Other airlines have followed suit, such as Copa Airlines and Air Europa, which have suspended the issuance in Argentina of air tickets that do not take off in the country. In the case of Air France, it suspended ticket sales departing from Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay. Iberia did it for flights that take off from Uruguay, in addition to having restricted sales of this class to the most expensive categories.
