La compañía norteamericana JetBlue Airways anunció un nuevo servicio sin escalas entre el Aeropuerto Internacional Orlando/MCO y dos de los principales destinos del Caribe. La aerolínea volará desde Orlando a los aeropuertos dominicanos de Punta Cana y de Santiago programados para Noviembre 2023.
Una vez que comience el servicio, JetBlue se convertirá en la única aerolínea en servir a Santiago con un servicio sin escalas desde Orlando. Aerolíneas Argentinas ha anunciado el retorno de la ruta estacional Ushuaia/USH—São Paulo/GRU con dos frecuencias semanales del 6 de Julio al 20 de Agosto de 2023. La aerolínea LATAM Airlines Colombia ha anunciado el Jueves 16/03 la incorporación de cinco Airbus A320 (5) como parte de la ampliación de flota para reforzar la red de rutas domésticas, completando alcanzar las treinta unidades en la filial colombiana. Los aviones adicionales, que fueron incorporados a la operación en un tiempo récord, representan 210.000 asientos mensuales adicionales que equivalen a un incremento del 20% de su oferta en el país. Con estos cinco aviones, provenientes de operaciones del LATAM Airlines Group en otros países de la región, la aerolínea completa treinta aviones en el país para reforzar la red de rutas domésticas.
El 28 de Marzo de 2023 se abrirá la ruta Bogotá—Riohacha y a partir del 1 de Abril de 2023 aumentará la oferta de asientos en ciudades como San Andrés, Cartagena, Santa Marta y Pereira teniendo en cuenta el impacto que tienen estas en la actividad turística del país, así como en ciudades como Medellín, Barranquilla, Cali y Bucaramanga con alto flujo de pasajeros.
LATAM Airlines Colombia ha dado prioridad a la contratación de personal de Viva Air. De esta manera, a la fecha han sido contratados un total de 220 funcionarios entre los que se encuentran pilotos, tripulantes de cabina y personal técnico de mantenimiento, quienes iniciarán labores de manera escalonada a partir de la próxima semana. «A raíz de la suspensión de operaciones de Viva Air la Aerocivil ofreció algunas herramientas a todo el sector para incorporar oferta. En LATAM pudimos reaccionar rápidamente para concretar la ampliación de nuestra operación y con esto asumir, con acciones concretas, la responsabilidad que tenemos con el país en la protección de la conectividad de Colombia y del consumidor», indicó Santiago Álvarez, Director Ejecutivo de LATAM Airlines Colombia.
La salud financiera del sector está en la lupa de las autoridades. En 2022 cerramos con un saldo en caja equivalente al 10,5% de los ingresos de los últimos doce meses que garantiza un nivel de liquidez sano para atender las necesidades de nuestra operación y garantizar la prestación del servicio aéreo de los colombianos, así lo confirmó el ejecutivo de LATAM Colombia.
Adicionalmente, LATAM Cargo Colombia continuará con la operación de un avión carguero Boeing 767 a San Andrés con dos vuelos a la semana por el resto del mes de Marzo 2023 con miras a atender las necesidades de abastecimiento de la Isla en esta coyuntura. A la fecha ha realizado cinco vuelos al Archipiélago con un promedio de 11 toneladas de carga transportada por vuelo y en las próximas semanas se realizarán cuatro operaciones adicionales.
Finalmente, en lo que se refiere a atención de pasajeros, LATAM Airlines Colombia ha sido parte de la solución transportando de manera gratuita hasta sus ciudades de origen a un total de 6.017 pasajeros que quedaron varados por la suspensión de operaciones de Viva Air. Así mismo, a la fecha 2.105 pasajeros, con fechas de viaje entre el 09/03—09/04 han adquirido pasajes con tarifas de protección.

El Gobierno de Colombia denunció días atrás ante la Fiscalía a la aerolínea Viva Air por presunto estafa a los usuarios. La situación que se desencadenó tras es anunció de Viva Air de la suspensión de sus servicios, afecto de forma significativa a varias personas, por un lado los usuarios que tenían pasajes programados, en algunos casos quedando detenidos en aeropuertos lejos de sus casas y por otro, los trabajadores que no recibieron un aviso antes de la última decisión. Ante esta situación el Gobierno ha tenido que intervenir, para ayudar a las personas perjudicadas; y asimismo para desplegar una investigación contra la empresa por presunta estafa.
Debido a la situación anterior y que deberá seguir su curso, el Ministro de Transporte, Guillermo Reyes, ha informado que desde su cartera se ha tomado la decisión de proceder de forma legal de acuerdo a que la compañía aérea ha violado los derechos de los consumidores y es posible demostrar que pese a que era consciente de que sus estados financieros mostraban que no podían seguir funcionado hasta el último minutos siguieron ofreciendo vuelos y vendiendo boletos.
“Pudimos establecer que se incurre en actuación de tipo penal por las conductas de lo que sería una estafa agravada por la modalidad económica, porque quienes lo hicieron, lo hicieron a sabiendas de lo que iba a pasar. Porque fueron más de 475.000 ciudadanos con cerca de 725.000 operaciones, esto es, con muchos casos de compra de tiquetes de ida y de regreso. Eso hace que sean dos operaciones […] ANATO ha dicho que supera los 30.000 millones de pesos para las agencias de viajes, y en lo que tenemos de esos 750.000 trayectos, eso nos daría cerca de 242.000 millones y otras transacciones, que podrían llegar a 272.000 millones por ahora”, señaló el Jefe de la cartera de Transporte.
Viva Air no volverá a funcionar debido a que, como ellos mismos lo manifestaron no tienen los medios ni las formas para reactivar operaciones e incluso, algunas aerolíneas como Avianca y LATAM Airlines están ayudando con la crisis, contratando a los empleados de la aerolínea de bajo costo y asumiendo algunos vuelo o dando opciones a los pasajeros afectados por el suceso. “Viva no va a volver a operar, no tiene aviones, no tiene empleados y no tiene recursos, no más las deudas. ¿Cómo podría operar?, ¿Quién le va a dar aviones para hacer la operación? Sin embargo, de todo se ve en la viña del Señor”, dijo Guillermo Reyes.
Mercado inestabilidad Desde el Ministerio de Transporte de Colombia han estado monitoreando la situación de las líneas aéreas del país y ha solicitado a los entes reguladores hacer un seguimiento a los estados financieros para controlar posibles crisis futuras. “Esta situación de Viva y otros anuncios que yo recibí de que habían otras aerolíneas de bajo costo como Ultra, que están en situación económica delicada, me llevó en virtud de mis competencias, a pedirle al director de la Aeronáutica y a la Superintendencia de Transporte que oficiara a todas las aerolíneas para que, a la fecha, nos entregaran los balances activos, pasivos y cuál era su situación. A nosotros nos interesa que la operación aérea sea segura, sea confiable y que quien vende o se somete al contrato del transporte aéreo cumpla el Reglamento Aeronáutico Colombiano y le garantice al pasajero, al usuario, los derechos, y el nuestro es actuar y proteger”.
Trabajadores Viva Air El Ministerio de Transporte sostuvo que lo más probable es que la aerolínea de bajo costo no vuelva a operar como consecuencia de su crisis financiera. La crisis ocasionada por el cese de operaciones de Viva Air el pasado 27 de Febrero de 2023 parece no acabar. Además de los pasajeros que han resultado afectados, son cientos de trabajadores de la low cost los que también quedaron cesanteados. El Ministro de Transporte, Guillermo Reyes, recientemente dio a conocer que, por ahora, LATAM Airlines Colombia es la única compañía que está contratando a los ex-empleados de la aerolínea de bajo costo.
El titular de la cartera de Transporte expresó sobre el futuro de la compañía aérea colombiana entregando un panorama desalentador, podría salir definitivamente del mercado aéreo. El futuro de los extrabajadores de la low-cost están buscando trabajo en LATAM Airlines Colombia. “Con relación a lo dicho sobre la contratación de personal de Viva Air por parte de aerolíneas. Me permito aclarar que la empresa que lo está realizando es Aerovías de Integración Regional S.A. más conocida como LATAM Airlines Colombia y no Avianca”, aclaró el titular de la cartera de Transporte Guillermo Reyes.
El Ministerio de Trabajo está indagando si efectivamente Viva Air tiene o no los recursos para poder liquidar a todos sus empleados: “Ya teníamos un tema económico garantizado. Yo no tengo certeza si eso ocurrió. Sin embargo, el Ministerio de Trabajo está adelantando todas las averiguaciones sobre si esto ha ocurrido”. Cabe mencionar que las declaraciones del ministro de Transporte se dan a tan solo horas de que interpusiera una denuncia penal formal en contra de Viva Air ante la Fiscalía General de la Nación por la presunta comisión de los delitos de estafa agravada en modalidad masa, ofrecimiento engañoso de productos y servicios y otros.
El cese de operaciones de la low-cost no solo ocasionó traumas y perjuicios a sus pasajeros, sino también, una evidente paralización en el transporte aéreo colombiano. Entre los puntos principales por los que el Ministerio de Transporte radicó la denuncia están que “la aerolínea recaudó antes del cese de las operaciones ocurrido el pasado 27 de Febrero de 2023, una suma que asciende, de manera preliminar, a los COL$ 272 mil millones de Pesos, por concepto de la venta de pasajes aéreos, tiqueteras y la recepción de pagos de diversas agencias de viajes». A lo anterior, se suma que, pese a que la aerolínea conocía que acabaría sus operaciones, mantuvo abiertos sus canales comerciales hasta unas horas antes de que anunciara la decisión que afectó a cientos de pasajeros. Lo anterior, según la cartera de Transporte, evidenció “dolo por parte de la compañía. La aerolínea sabiendo que no podía cumplirle a sus usuarios los mantuvo en error, generándoles expectativas respecto de sus vuelos que no podía materializarse”, señaló la cartera en la denuncia interpuesta. El Ministerio de Transporte concluyó asegurando que, a la fecha, “la aerolínea no ha realizado reembolso alguno a los miles de afectados, vulnerado con ello el patrimonio económico de los colombianos que adquirieron sus servicios”.
Ante los incumplimientos por parte de Viva Air en materia de transporte, se agrega la infeliz consecuencia de haber fracasado el intento de fusión con Avianca Airlines, donde ésta aerolínea quedó totalmente expuesta ante las desprolijidades para solicitar un acuerdo de sinergia, flotando en medio de acciones poco fehacientes.

JetSMART quiere comprar aerolínea colombiana low cost Ultra Air
La aerolínea chilena JetSMART Airlines Group firmó una carta de entendimiento con la intención de comprar Ultra Air. En medio del convulsionado mercado aéreo colombiano, asoma un movimiento de intereses para captar mayor mercado aéreo. La aerolínea chilena JetSMART anunció que está evaluando la posibilidad de comprar el 100% de las acciones de la aerolínea colombiana de bajo costo Ultra Air, fundada por el mexicano William Shaw, quien también fundó Viva Air.
JetSMART Group anunció en un comunicado que firmó el Jueves 16/03 una carta de entendimiento con Ultra Air, con la que se inicia un proceso de due diligence “que permitirá a JetSMART conocer la información técnica y financiera que demanda este tipo de negociaciones”. El proceso se completaría en los siguientes treinta días. Pasado ese periodo y en caso de que el resultado sea positivo, JetSMART y Ultra Air procederán con el sometimiento de dicho acuerdo de compra, a la revisión y aprobación de las autoridades de aviación, tal y como lo establecen las normas para este tipo de transacciones.
Desde la compañía también confirmaron que “durante el proceso de due dilligence, Ultra Air continuará operando bajo los parámetros administrativos, operacionales y financieros de la actual administración, sin que JetSMART tenga responsabilidad o injerencia alguna sobre la dirección, operación, los servicios y/o las finanzas de Ultra Air. Creemos en el potencial del mercado colombiano y estamos decididos a aportar y sumar al desarrollo del turismo y el empleo en el país. Hemos visto las cualidades operativas y comerciales de Ultra Air y hemos llegado a un acuerdo de los términos de la compra de la aerolínea. Esperamos avanzar de forma eficiente en el due dilligence y trabajar de cerca con las autoridades encargadas de las aprobaciones respectivas”, señaló Estuardo Ortiz, Presidente y CEO de JetSMART Airlines Group.
