AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

China investigates A319 Sichuan Airlines incident

The A319-100 airbus aircraft was flying at 32,000 feet when its right front windshield fell off

Aviation authorities in China are investigating how the windshield of the cockpit of a Sichuan Airlines Airbus A319-100 plane exploded in the air, endangering the plane and passengers on board.

On Monday, the plane was flying at 32,000 feet to the Tibetan capital Lhasa from the western city of Chongqing when its right front windshield fell off, exposing the cabin to the icy, low-pressure atmosphere outside.

An Airbus A319-100, registration B-6419 making flight 3U-8633 of the Sichuan Airlines company from Chongqing to Lhasa (China), was en route at 9800 meters (approximately FL321) at about 60nm west of Chengdu over mountainous terrain, When the right windshield blew completely, the glass hitting and injuring the first officer, the passenger’s oxygen masks were automatically released, the flight control unit (autopilot panel) was damaged. The captain started an emergency descent at 7100 meters (approximately FL235 minimum safety altitude due to the mountains), turned the plane and diverted to Chengdu descending the plane to 3000 meters as soon as it was out of the mountains. The plane landed on runway 02R of Chengdu about 35 minutes after leaving 9800 meters. The first officer and a member of the cabin crew received injuries.

The CAAC of China reported that the first officer received a sprained waist and scratches when the right windshield broke and separated. A member of the cabin crew also received injuries. The occurrence is being investigated.

The airline reported a mechanical failure. The captain remained unharmed, the first officer received abrasions on the skin, a member of the cabin crew suffered a waist injury.

The airline quoted the CAAC Southwest Regional Administration subsequently published an event bulletin that summarizes the preliminary results of the investigation suggesting that the aircraft was en route to 9800 meters at 0.74-0.75 mach when the right windshield cracked, the crew received an ECAM message regarding the windshield heating soon followed by the windshield blast. The first officer and a stewardess received minor injuries (scratches). The flight crew applied the related standard procedures (emergency descent), passenger oxygen masks were released. The flight crew could not communicate with ATC due to the noise in the cabin and, therefore, signaled the emergency through the transponder. The windshield was still the original, the aircraft had accumulated 19,912 flight hours in 12,920 flight cycles, there were no pending problems on the day of the occurrence. The last C control was on March 9, 2017, the last control A on April 12, 2018. No windshield fault messages were recorded during the last 15 days. The investigation continues. A \ W

Acuerdo EEUU-Emiratos Árabes Unidos

Etihad-Emitares.jpg

AW | 2018 05 15 09:17 | AIRLINES MARKET

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

USA-UAE Agreement

The United States and the United Arab Emirates have signed an agreement to end disputes over subsidies to Gulf airlines

The United States and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced yesterday, May 14, 2018, an agreement to end its long-running dispute over the claim of United States airlines alleging unfair subsidies provided by the UAE to their two states. main airlines.

The US representatives claimed that the UAE had admitted that they had unfairly subsidized their flag carriers and had agreed not to add more so-called fifth freedom flights, which are routes to the United States that do not originate in the UAE. Meanwhile, the UAE Ambassador to the United States argued essentially the opposite, stating that he was very happy that the UAE airlines could continue to add fifth freedom flights.

In analyzing the true essence of the agreement, it is clear that US airlines did not get what they wanted. The main thing they sought was to put an end to these fifth freedom flights, which cut their business when Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways, the flag carriers of the states of Dubai and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, fly from their bases to the United Kingdom. United, and from there they fly to the United States. The American claim is partial because there is nothing to prevent Emirates Airlines and Etihad Airways from making such plans in the future.

The Americans also called on the UAE airlines to commit to publishing annual reports on their finances that meet international standards. US airlines hope that this will force them to confess unfair government subsidies that Americans believe keep their Emirati rivals afloat. But it is not clear that Emirates and Etihad have to reveal much more than they already do. Emirates, for example, already publishes annual reports that are prepared in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards and are audited by PwC, a British accounting firm.

US-Qatar Agreement

The agreement is similar to that agreed between the United States and Qatar in January 2018, which also avoided the course of action feared by Gulf airlines, that is, a total renegotiation of open skies treaties that allow them to fly freely between their states of origin and the United States. But in reality, despite defending themselves for years, US airlines did not have much hope for a better outcome in these negotiations, because the essence of their claim against Gulf carriers has always been lacking. Airlines in the United States have also enjoyed billions of dollars in various government subsidies in recent years and it has always sounded hypocritical that they are targeting Gulf carriers. The UAE deal gave the Americans enough to allow them to declare victory and move on. But if this is what you see from the success of US airlines, it is easy to understand why the service they offer is still so poor. A \ W

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

LASA Líneas Aéreas builds hangar in Neuquén

LASA started the construction of its hangar for the aircraft fleet

The LASA airline began construction of the hangar to operate the Neuquén hub from July 7, 2018, on the routes that were handed over to it by the National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC).

Juan Silenzi, President of the airline, has announced that the construction of the hangar is for the company’s own account and accused both the Neuquén Airport Administrator and the Government of the Province of Neuquén because it says agreements signed in advance were not complied with. announcement of the business plan of the company. The provincial government disregarded the controversy by ensuring that it did not sign any commitment or financing or guarantee. The agreement for the construction of the LASA hangar has as parts the airline and ANSA, in charge of the administration of the airport of the city. And it fixed that the administrator would finance the construction of a hangar in charge of LASA with an investment ceiling of about AR $ 2,2 million pesos.

LASA warned that if the hangar works had not begun last week, it would be unfeasible to start the flight plan scheduled for the last working day of the first week of July. It is the second in size of those that exist in the country, as announced by the company and the Government, when it was announced that the airline would have its hub at the Neuquen capital’s airport.

Home ops of LASA

The start of LASA flights is delayed compared to the original plans, attributing it to the delays due to the works of the new hangar in Neuquén. The company will fly, as announced, with aircraft from the Embraer factory.

The projections estimate that on July 6, 2018 LASA’s first flight from Neuquén is scheduled, connecting Zapala and Chapelco. But the new investments of the company put in doubt these connections. A \ W

Latam se achica en Argentina

AW | 2018 05 14 16:12 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

Latam shrinks in Argentina

The subsidiary Latam Argentina will transfer two Airbus A320 aircraft to Latam Airlines

Latam Argentina Airlines will deprogram two Airbus A320-200 by the end of May 2018 to be affected by the services of the parent airline in Chile. Latam Argentina operates A320-200 and Boeing 767 aircraft in its domestic and regional operations, although the company has assured that services will not be affected.

The measure was adopted due to the provisional deprogramming of the most modern Boeing 787 of Latam Airlines for revision according to regulations of the NTSB and the FAA, organisms that regulate the safety of airlines, airports and the like.

To cover this important shortage of aircraft, the holding company went out to rent some aircraft, but also turned to its own subsidiaries, including Latam Argentina, which at the end of this month must divest two of its Airbus A320 aircraft, which will go to Santiago From Chile. In a statement, Latam Airlines Argentina announced that at the end of May it will transfer two of its Airbus A320s to its headquarters in Santiago, Chile. This decision is linked to the operational needs of the Latam holding company against the delays generated by the preventive maintenance program of the Rolls-Royce engines of the Boeing 787.

The local fleet will be made up of Airbus 320-200 (13) and Boeing 767 (3), the local airline added in its statement. The transfer of these aircraft will not have an impact on the labor sources of the company’s personnel, nor will it affect the domestic and regional supply of Latam in Argentina, whose itinerary will be fulfilled by optimizing the daily use of the aircraft. Company sources added that each of the remaining 13 aircraft will start flying one hour more per day. A \ W

JAL Airlines busca línea aérea low cost

AW | 2018 05 14 15:52 | AIRLINES

AIRWAYS® AW-Icon TXT

JAL Airlines seeks low cost airline

The airline of Japan JAL Air Lines will launch a company of low cost for 2020

The Japanese airline JAL Airlines announced today that it will launch a low-cost company by 2020, with the aim of taking advantage of the growing demand for flights to the Asian country and compete with the other largest Japanese company in the sector, ANA.

The former state company will focus on mid-range flights between Japan and other nodes of air transport in Asia, although it will also have connections to Europe and America, the Japanese airline said in a statement.

His new low-cost company will begin operating in the summer of 2020, coinciding with the celebration of the Olympic Games in Tokyo, an event that Japan has taken advantage of to increase its popularity as a tourist destination.

JAL had until now a minority stake in the regional low-cost airline Jetstar, and with the expansion of its business in this sector follows in the footsteps of its rival ANA, which announced in March the merger of its low-cost subsidiaries Peach Aviation and Vanilla Air to expand its operations.

After French aviation manufacturer Airbus won a tense battle against Boeing over the business of Japan’s second largest airline last year, the company’s chief financial officer told CNBC that Airbus was simply «better.»

Japan Airlines announced its first order of aircraft for the French aircraft manufacturer in October of 31 A350 aircraft worth $ 9.5 billion, entering an aviation market that had been dominated by rival Boeing.

The new airline needs to define a name. It will have domestic flights in Japan, a market where low-cost companies account for less than 10% of passengers, a very low number compared to other Asian or European countries. A \ W
